Computer Won't See Wifi Networks

Hi,
So my laptop was working just fine until the day before yesterday. I didn't drop it, etc., but now it seems to be unable to see wireless networks.
Specifically, this morning I tried to connect it to a new network (I'm not at home) and at first it saw about 3 different networks (none of them in the house). Now, it doesn't recognize any networks at all. Is it possible that something is damaged on my wifi card?
My phone sees the network, which leads me to believe that maybe it is not a router channel problem, but something else. I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro from 2012 with Maverciks. Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Thanks for your quick response!
I have actually rebooted everything and my computer now sees SOME wifi networks, but still not the one that is literally half a foot away from me. The one that it does see, it can't connect to...
I ran the Diagnostics report, but that seems pretty useless...

  • MBP 10.5.8 won't see wifi network but iphone & ipad ok

not only that, but the pc's in the house runing xp, vist and 7 all see the network. i have access to the modem but am really reluctant to change anything for fear of disturbing everyone else's access. i've never encountered this with my macbook pro before - i've always seen networks. i can see many of the neighbours networks too. i have included a screenshot of the modem settings. i'd love some help! also, yes i am in Brazil and password is 10 characters [6 numbers and 4 letters]. Graham.

    Hello,
I'm going to assume at this point that since the Modem/Router is set channel 13, that this might be an early 802.11a/b/g US MBP, North America and some Central and South American countries allow only 1 through 11.
Might try Channel 11 on it.

  • After installing Mavericks wifi won't see my network (WPA2 Personal)

Installed mavericks on my MacPro and wifi was spotty for the first day or two and wouldn't automatically select my wifi network after sleep. So I deleted my network name from the wifi list and since then it won't see it at all. Even if i type in the name manually it says no networks found. Tried repairing permissions and restarting that didn't help either.
    Any suggestions?

Anything further I can do before taking the hammer to my iPad 2 3g+Wi-fi?
    Plenty.
Am I correct in thinking that you can only setup 3g connection if you already have wifi connection?
    Incorrect.
It would appear to me that this device is about as useful as a brick, no?
It has not been useful for the last 4 months?
Do you connect your iPad with any other wi-fi network besides your own?
If so, do you have the same problem with any other wi-fi network your iPad has access to?
If you connect your iPad with any other wi-fi network besides your own and the problem is with your wi-fi network only, this leans toward there being a problem with your wi-fi network regardless how many computers or other devices don't have any problem connecting with your network.
What troubleshooting steps have you tried with your wireless network and router if any to rule out a potential problem there?

  • TP Unable to See Wifi networks for more than a few seconds

I've read a bunch of wifi related posts on these forums but none seem to be the same problem as mine.
My touchpad rarely, if at all, sees any networks. If it sees my network it usually loses it before I have a chance to finish typing in the password. I can wait, sometimes up to 20 minutes for it to finally see any networks again and try to login again only to have it lose it and start searching for networks.  Manually typing in the network tells me no network with that name can be found. I managed to set my android phone up as a hotspot (without any security) and connected to it long enough to get through the setup and reboot, then it was back to not seeing any networks, not even my phone.
    Things I've tried:
    - Sitting 2-3 feet from the router
    - New router (bought it the same day I got my TP)
    - Disabled all security
    - Tried setting router to 802.11b only, g only, mixed, different channels, rebooting router
    - MAC filtering is not enabled
    - Resetting the TP (power + home) sometimes gets me a connection for a few seconds.
    - I have 2 android phones, 2 laptops, a home theatre, and a wireless printer that can see my network and my neighbors networks all the time and have no problems getting and staying connected.
    - Did the 3.02 upgrade by usb to my computer
    - Toggled wifi, toggled airplane mode
I called support and had my TP sent in for warranty. I received a new one (serial number and MAC addresses are different so it is a different device), but it's doing the same thing.
I called support again and did all the usual troubleshooting and the guy felt like I do, very confused how it's losing ALL networks so often. I'm taking it to work where there's an open wifi network I can test it with and do the 3.02 upgrade (new TP came with 3.0 installed).
Has anyone else run into this? Is there a bad batch of TPs with faulty wifi chips or antennas? Is the TP just not compatible with my Cisco E1200 router (and causes it to stop seeing all networks?)? Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm at a loss and find it hard to believe having this one exchanged as well will be any different.
    Thanks,
    Brad
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

Are you broadcasting your SSID? Sometimes this can cause a problem connecting. Is this Cisco router running any turbo modes or special preparatory protocols.
There are no know issues with Wi-Fi connectivity except on first connection; and the chance of 2 devices having the exact same issue is very unlikely. This sounds like something to do with your wireless router.
Have you tried to connect to another Wi-Fi hotspot elsewhere?
Do you have any 2.4 GHz wireless phones or security system that could interfere with connection?

  • Can't see wifi networks?!

Unlike any phone I've ever had before, whenever I switch on wifi on my E4G, I cannot get an automatic list up of available networks in the area. Instead, I have to go to Settings/Wifi/ to see what is available and THEN choose from them. After that, I can connect no problem. I've never had this before and am presuming it can't be built so that you have to do that every single time whenever you switch it on?! I'm used to switching on wifi and, unless you have a saved network in range which it connects to automatically, a screen pops up showing you all networks within range so that you can then select one, which is the normal way of choosing a new one when you go to a pub/restaurant etc., so that you can then put their passkey in to store it for future visits. Please don't tell me this phone is so backward that it's missing what even the most basic phones do as standard for something as important as wifi??  The only thing I can presume it might be is if I go into Settings/Wifi/Menu/Advanced, there is a tick box at the top saying Network notification. I am a bit loath to think it's this as there is smaller text underneath saying 'notify me when an open network is available'. To me, that reads that it'll tell me when an unsecured network, free to simply use at will, is available but am I reading that incorrectly and an open network may well be locked/password protected, and not just one that's free?

This phone is designed to connect to trusted/saved WiFi networks by default and will do so whenever WiFi is turned on. It will not show a list of available networks when WiFi is turned on.
The setting you've found (Setting/Wifi/Menu/Advanced/Network notification) will tell you when a unlocked/open network is available - it won't tell you if a network is available if it's protected with for example WPA.

  • Can't see wifi network

Today I got a wimax modem with built in wifi (greenpacket DX230). There is no customization of the device at all. The SSID and password are already printed on the device and are supposed to work without setup. However, I cannot see the network from my macbook running snow leopard, even if I am right beside the device. I have checked several PCs and they can all see the network, and my iPods can also see the network. I have yet to try another mac (will try tomorrow).
Does anyone know why this would be? I thought wifi was a standard and that there is no deviation from it? Why would my ipods be able to see the network but not the macbook? Kismac doesn't even show the network

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
They may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them. If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • Can't see wifi networks or connect to my own?

I'm going to start by saying I have an iPhone 4s and it's not that old, and the version is 6.1.3. So about two days ago, I started to notice that my wifi wasn't on. I was using my data in my house. I went to go turn my wifi on and off, and then I noticed I couldn't even see the networks around me, not even my own. So I waited to see what would happen. It came back by itself for about a minute, and then I was using my data again. I went and I updated my phone to the latest version, because I haven't done so in forever, and it didn't work. I reset my network settings or whatever, and that didn't work, instead it just dimmed out the wifi so I couldn't turn it on, but I waited for about and hour and it was fine. I went back into the wifi settings and the networks were back, so I tapped on mine, enterend the password, and it said 'Unable to join.' I tried it several times, I even checked if I put the password in right and I was. I also tried turning my phone off and on, and it didn't work. I really just want to throw my ohone at the wall. This is making me extremely angry because I don't know what else to do. And I am not about to contact Apple Support.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the problem continues, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.  Honestly, it sounds like the Wi-Fi chip is failing.

  • If iPhone 6+ doesn't see WiFi network after iOS 8.3 upgrade, restart router and iPhone

PROBLEM: After upgrading my iPhone 6+ to iOS 8.3, the iPhone initially would not "see" the presence of my Apple Airport WiFi network.
This was bizarre because the credentials were saved on the iPhone, the WiFi network had been continuously up, my Mac Air remained continuously logged in to the Airport WiFi, and the iPhone was able to see other WiFi networks I didn't wish to connect to such as xfinity's and the neighbor's. Just not mine.
Manually entering the network name and password had no effect.
SOLUTION: Restart the Airport WiFi router. Then restart the iPhone 6+. Now the iPhone 6+ sees and connects to the WiFi network automatically as usual.
    Hope this helps some folks!

I Apologize for the long overdue reply. If your using a pc with your iPhone it is a common problem i noticed since i had iPhone 3GS, although it can occasionally happen with mac but you if backed the phone with the issue will get the same issue you had since it will be in the backup it backups software on phone as well you see.

  • IPhone 4 (ios 4.0.1) won't "remember" wifi networks

It makes me log into my home wifi network every hour or so. It's like it loses the connection, then "Forgets" about the network.
I have to go into settings->wifi, select my network, then put the password in all over again.
    Anyone else see this?

I was having this problem too recently with my new Clear Spot device. When I'd have security on, (WPA) I would always have to enter the password and it would not remember it for whatever reason. At my home network, and my mom's place, it would remember. I did the reset network settings as you guys suggested and it appears to be working now. Will test again tomorrow at work where I use my iPhone to control all my slideshows with the Clear Spot at my router... Thanks!

  • IPhone 4S - iOS 6 - can't see WiFi networks

I have a strange problem with my iPhone. It's a locked iPhone, bought from Vodafone from my country. I use it locked and un-jailbreaked. I went in France for 2 weeks where i had my Roaming active, but i didn't used cellular data, only WiFi. Now, back home in my country, it seems that i can't see wireless networks. I tried to reinstall, update to the last firmware, it seems that wireless appear for 1 second when at first start, then it disappears and i can't see no more WiFi networks in list, tho there are like 10 networks around me.
Any ideas? Or someone else had the same issue?
    Thanks,
    Nick

i went to Vodafone. They said they will replace it. It seems like a manufacturing defect.

  • 4s won't see wifi

My IPhone 4s won't find any wifi networks, I've reset it, reset network connections, restored it on iTunes & updated to to the latest ios. Please help?

If you have not already done this, make a backup of your device and restore it as new, without adding back the backup or any other content. Try your Wi-Fi. If it will not work then, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store and have the hardware checked.

  • Droid Maxx Won't Forget WiFi Network

    Hey all,
I just upgraded to a new Droid Maxx and I'm running into a frustrating problem.  I configured a wireless network at the office (a limited guest network) and connected to it just fine.  I then got connected to the full permission WiFi network and I decided to drop the guest network.  I went to drop the WiFi network from WiFi - Manage Networks - Forget and it worked.  Temporarily.  I came back a few minutes later and it had reconnected to that guest network (which requires a password) and that guest network appears in my list of networks when I go to Manage Networks.  I tried to Forget it again, which works, but once I lock the phone and come back a few minutes later, that network is back in my list of networks under Managed Networks.  The problem is that it keeps connecting to this network.  I've tried rebooting the phone and that doesn't help.  The really odd thing is that when I Forget the network from Manage Networks, it comes back complete with the password.  The only work-around I have found is to leave the network in my Manage Network list and change the password to something incorrect so it cannot connect.  However if I then Forget that network with the bad password, it comes back with the correct password.  My question is - what can I do to permanently remove that WiFi network from my Manage Networks list (short of a hard reset of the phone)?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Lee

That's odd. All of my devices will forget a wifi network after I long press to get a dialog and choose "forget network".
Try forgetting the network when you are in a different location and not in range of that wifi network. Reboot the phone afterwards and see if the wifi network remains gone from the saved list.
    Hope this helps.
