Computer won't talk to cd driver

I am getting an error message when I try to burn a cd... essentially my cd driver and computer are not talking to each other.  When I tried to use my  tech tool deluxe cd the computer would not start up from it even with the "c" held down as required.  I have an older macbook updated to leopard.

  • Computer won't start from hard drive or CD, and won't perform system recovery.

I have an HP Pavilion g7-1314nr. Yesterday it froze and I held down the power button to turn it off. After turning it back on, it started a disk check. I turned it off during the disk check, and upon trying to boot it back up, it told me booting failed and to press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to try again. After multiple attempts, it stopped displaying this message.  Under system diagnostics, I ran a boot test, and it failed. Attempting a system recovery brings up the start-up windows logo, and then a black screen with an enlarged cursor. This morning, I inserted a recovery disk and told it to boot from internal CD/DVD drive. Like system recovery, it brings the Windows logo, and then a black screen with an enlarged cursor. My computer is incapable of booting from either the hard drive or a CD. What do I do?

    Hi @TeridaxXD001 ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g7-1314nr Notebook and issues with Windows 7 and starting up.  I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults. You could restore the BIOS with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings which should resolve the fan issue.
Here is a link to computer won't start for Windows 7. There is a section on getting past the HP Logo screen.
If that does not help at the end of the document it shows you to do a hardware test.
Please note remove any and all USB devices before troubleshooting. Disconnect all non-essential devices
    Hope this helps you out.
    Thanks.

  • Computer won't boot; no hard drive spin up; no target mode; refuses cd.

Our "other" house computer, an iMac 400 DV, vintage 1999, worked fine until just a little while ago. Last used this morning to send e-mail, it now will not boot. Hard drive does not spin up. After pushing power button, light (behind button) comes on, but no further activity ensues. Cannot be started in target disk mode. Utility CD cannot be inserted, either before or after pushing power button. My guess is that HD is "OK" (such as that is after 10 years), but that power is not getting to bus that drives it or CD drive.
How to find broken connection, if that what it is, is the problem.
Wise counsel or off the wall guesses are welcome.
    Thanks.
    Leonard
(p.s.: in one or more other forums, I posted questions in the last few months; subsequently I have been indisposed, as they say. My apologies to anyone who may have written with helpful tips and to whom I have not yet replied. I am way behind in correspondence and beg your indulgence until I can sit still long enough to type a few words in reply (hopefully after I've tried your suggestions).

Pismo is great. It's still my portable Mac, and as long as I don't try to play "HD" video in full screen mode on YouTube or Hulu, it is perfectly fine for most things I do. It still does not look old when I pull it out in a public place. Recent switchers with their MacBooks are probably wondering why the Apple logo is up-side-down.
My G4 card is the one that was sold by FastMac. 550 MHz. It is noticeably faster because Mac OS X and applications (such as for video processing) use the vector processing unit in the G4. But because the clock speed is not that different from the original 500 MHz G3, it's not a drastic end-to-end type of improvement.
When the CPU is being loaded to max, it does get hotter than the stock G3, so the fan comes on more often. The problem with today's Internet is the use of Flash animations in banner and sidebar ads. Those things put unnecessary load on my Pismo's CPU. For modern computers, that extra load is no big deal, but it matters to a 550 MHz G4. I would just turn Flash off, but there are things that I do want to see that use Flash.
I got it at the FastMac booth at the Macworld Expo a few years ago for the +show price+, so it has been worthwhile to have it.

  • Computer won't recognize external WD drive

I purchased a new external USB 2.0 2TB WD drive knowing that I would need to format it for my iMac. I get a message that says it is not recognized by this Mac. I try to use Disk Utility to format the disk, but nothing is high lighted to use. How do I format the disk?
Disk Description : WD Ext HDD 1021 Media Total Capacity : 2 TB (2,000,396,746,752 Bytes)
Connection Bus : USB Write Status : Read Only
Connection Type : External S.M.A.R.T. Status : Not Supported
USB Serial Number : 574341565933313338383735 Partition Map Scheme : Unformatted

Dennis, In disk utility select the volume (as you have), then select the "erase" tab. In the format field, select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then select the erase button on the lower right.

  • Computer won't recognize external hard drive.

I think I messed up my hard drive trying to reformat it.  When I plug it in it is not detected by finder or disk utility.  It is recognized however by the system profiler.  What can I do to fix this issue so that it can be mounted and reformatted?

Maybe some more information on my part will help:
The hard drive is recognized by both Disk Utility(DU) and System Profiler.
In the top of the left-hand list section of DU, my HD appears as '74.5 GB Generic USB Disk...' Also, underneath this heading is a subheading 'Shupa,' which is the name I gave my HD. It currently has the blank white page as it's icon, but when i run the 'verify disk' and 'repair disk' functions on the '74.5 GB...' the Shupa icon goes to the orange HD icon . I am not able to run the verify and repair disk functions on 'shupa,' I get this message "Verify volume failed with error Could not unmount disk."
    Thanks ahead of time.

Good luck and you are welcome.
Like I said, I bought one of their inexpensive enclosures and now can use the hard drive just as a source for the files that are on it...my external drives are much larger and faster so I just plug that drive in when I need something from it.

  • Computer won't recognize my external hard drive. I've tried three different drives, including Mac super drive

Computer won't recognize my external cd/dvd writer, althoughI have tried three altogether, one being the the Apple usb superdrive.

Neither hard drive is working on the mac pro. They do not appear in disk utility.
My chords seem fine. I don't have another cable to try on the Mac Pro. but both cables worked on my 2011 macbook pro with my external hard drive. my 2TB didn't work on my macbook pro however... it didn't even appear in disk utility. I wonder though if that has to do with the usb 3. I know my laptop has USB 2 and my external hard drive is USB 3 and i'm not sure if its backwards compatible.
I have tried all of the USB ports on the Mac Pro, the hard wear seems fine.
I will try resetting the SMC shortly and see if that works.

  • Why won't photos from external drive stay on my computer (iPhoto) once I disconnect the external drive?

I'm trying to move photos from my external drive to my new computer.  When I connect the external drive, I'm able to view all the photos in iPhoto, and I'm able to drag photos to a desktop folder and/or directly into iPhoto.  But, when I disconnect the external drive, I no longer have access to the photos on my computer.  I'm sure there's a step I may be overlooking but I'm using the same process I've used in the past and cannot determine next steps.

    Thanks so far.
    I'm currently working on a 2012 MacBook Air 13", running OSX 10.8.
Upon opening my external drive, I've dragged the iPhoto Library to my computer's desktop.  When I've opened iPhoto and tried to import the library (from external drive and/or from the desktop), I'm unable to do so, i.e., the library is not highlighted (it won't allow me to click on it).
I can open and view the library from my external drive in iPhoto when the external drive is connected to the computer.  But, once the external drive is disconnected from the computer, I'm unable to view the library
I've tried all of the aforementioned when the "Copy Imported Item(s) to the iPhoto Library" is checked.

  • Snow leopard installation disc won't boot. Can I reset computer to boot from internal hard drive at startup?

I recently installed snow leopard on my macbook (mid 2006). I used system preferences to set the snow leopard boot disc as the install disc, and now my computer won't boot. It stalls at the apple icon with the grey screen. Is there any way I can set my computer to reboot from my internal hard drive at startup without having access to system prefernces (a keyboard code or something)?

Thank you so much for responding.  I actually just pushed the trackpad button at startup.  It ejected the install disc and automatically booted from the internal.  I am sure your method would have worked as well.  Thanks again!

  • HP Pavilion P7-1141 Computer won't boot with 2nd SATA drive installed

I'm having a problem booting brand new computer when a second SATA hard drive ws installed into P7-1141
Took a working SATA drive from my other computer and installed it into this new computer.  But computer only hangs on startup screen after the animated logo draws...then sits there doing nothing..
    My configuration:
HD 1 (boot drive, original that came with computer) plugged into SATA1
HD2 (second SATA drive) plugged into SATA2
DVD drive (original) plugged into SATA3
Will boot if I unplug SATA cable, but won't if it's plugged in..
To make sure I didn't break anything, I put the SATA drive back into original computer with the same power cable and SATA cable and it works.  That is, it shows up as a second hard drive on my old computer.
    Any ideas?

    Product number is : QX351AA3ABA

Ok.  I've done a little research and right or wrong, I'm following a suggestion to re-format the drive before I attach it.  Reason:  Someone posted that if you had a Windows XP or Vista formatted HD, that it will need to be re-formatted before being installed into a Windows 7 OS.  Maybe right, maybe wrong...but I'm going to try anyways.  Will keep posted.
Also, looked at my Event Log Errors and found this in the entry:
The device, \Device\Harddisk6\DR6, is not ready for access yet.
Not sure what this means yet..but working on it.  If anyone knows off-hand, i would like to solve this.
Anyways, I'm re-formatting the disk now and will try it again.  I have my doubts, because why wouldn't an NTFS formatted drive show up with any operating system?  Maybe there's an obvious answer, but that's why I'm here!
    Other comments:
I checked for latest SATA driver and must have it..at least according to this HP site since it only lists the 'original', so I assume it's there's only one released for this MB and that I must have the  latest and greatest.
There are many other posts on Windows 7 hanging on "Starting Windows'..and the above is what I pulled from them...haven't found 'the' solution posted yet....
    Thanks!
