Computer won't wake up after sleep

I've been reporting sleep problems with my iMac for a while in the past. No-one here would take it seriously (probably hardware, your reports are incidents, no-one else has these problems) so I just went away and I disabled the sleep function of my iMac alltogether, and I won't select the "sleep" button in the login screen anymore, or select "sleep" from the apple menu. No sleep no problem, right?
Well, I bought a Macbook Air three days ago, and in those three days I have had TWO occasions already where I wanted to wake the Macbook after sleep (closed lid) and it wouldn't wake up. All I get is the rainbow mouse pointer and the Macbook is unusable unless I reboot it.
Mind you, nothing is connected to the macbook but the power cable, and I find it hard to believe that my Macbook Air would also suffer from 'hardware problems' like my iMac alledgedly is.
In all my time using OSX 10.4 on my 17" PowerPC MacBook pro I have never had any problems, but since switching to Intel Macs with 10.5 I have these "sleep" problems all the time.
What gives, and can I expect Apple to do anything about this problem that I've been having since I bought my iMac more than a year ago, and is now also spoiling my MacBook Air experience?

I have solved my sleep issue with some help from this forum. Intel iMac 20 and 24. Leopard.
1. Repair Disk Permissions with Disk Utility.
2. Download 10.5.6 Combo: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1056comboupdate .html
3. Reboot, and install Combo.
4. Shutdown. Unplug all Firewire and USB connections, and iMac power cord. Wait 5mins.
5. Re-attach iMac power cord only, and reboot.
6. Optional. Run a day or so without Firewire and USB items to see if sleep allows waking after overnite sleeps.
I strongly suspect the Firewire controller is the suspect.

i just recently purchase a pair  16GB RAM of crucial  CT2K8G3S160BM for newegg.com. Yeesterday i try put this on my macbook i7 intel 2.9 processor that crucial said is compatible. but found out everything was good until i close my mac lid for hibernate. What happen is, it won't wake up no matter what i do until a way of reset SMC. BTW i try stick by stick to plug in together with my original 4gb RAM together found out 1 was ok and other one was not. But somehow why the info of hardware show that memory ram 16GB was installed and was OK. Everything was run smooth even booting. The only problem is won't wake up after sleep mode. I already try reset smc, pram, delete startimage, delete powermanagement.file and also sudo hibernate 0-7. Did anyone had this same issue of me. I'm my curiousity will it be the bad ram or software problem.

  • Macbook Air 2011 won't wake up after sleep

My Macbook Air 13" 2011 won't wake up after sleep.  I've taken it to apple genies bar, but they offered to replace my logical board!
I bought the Macbook Air in last August.  Why cannot they replace a new laptop???

One thing you want to do is "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility before you upgrade to a new revision, and afterward do the same thing.
On occasion files will become inaccessible to the logged-in user and cause certain components of the OS from acting cooperatively. This can most often happen during/after an update. Also, by resetting permissions before an update, it is to ensure that the update process itself can accomplish all tasks.
You may also want to consider applying/re-applying the downloaded 10.7.3 "Combo Update" from the Apple.com/downloads/ section. After resetting permissions, of course.

  • 1G iTouch won't wake up after sleep

1G iTouch won't wake up after sleep. When I plug it back into my laptop it does a complete reboot. Tried both reset and restore. Works fine as long as plugged in. It shows a full battery and drains properly but once it goes to sleep it acts like battery is fully discharged.

Is the iPod or the laptop going to sleep?
I can't tell for sure from your post.
When you restored, was it "as a new iPod" or from a backup?
What software is on the Touch?

  • Windows 7 won't wake up after sleep

I'm got a new Dell XPS 9000 desktop running Windows 7.   The system is set up to automatically shut down the display after 30 minutes and then put the computer is sleep after 2 hours.  That works fine, however, when trying to wake up the computer after sleep, I heard the fan starting up, but nothing else happens.  No display ever comes up.  I am forced to shut the computer off (using the power button) and then restart it.  When it does start up, it's resuming from sleep mode.
There have been a number of postings about Windows 7/sleep problems, but they are all a little different.
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks.

Just curious why drives would need to be updated.   This computer was just shipped to me.   Have not checked BIOS yet.  What setting need to be set for sleep?
Hybrid sleep was already turned off.   Ran the powercfg -energy.   There were lots of errors.  Not sure how to interpret this document.

  • Satellite T230 - Won't wake up after sleep

    I'm struggling with a problem on a new T230
After the machine goes to sleep, with Keyboard Wake enabled, it won't wake up no matter what I do. The only way out is to close it and restart or set it not to sleep, which undermines the main reason I bought it, the claims of long battery life
Any assistance will be most welcome

    Hey,
Do you notice the same behavior when Wake on Keyboard is disabled?
Are you using the preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba?
To be honest its really strange that sleep mode doesnt work properly. I use often sleep mode and hibernation very often and it always works but I disabled Wake on Keyboard to safe battery power while its turned off and I have installed newest BIOS version from official Toshiba website.
Do you have newest BIOS version too?

  • Won't wake up after sleep

My desktop won't wake up when it's been sleeping for a few hours. It wakes up short term. It just started this a few weeks ago. Any thoughts?

Well my solution may not be the most cientific one but it works for me (at least until the real solution comes to the public)...
My computer has the problem that when it goes to sleep mode she never comes back... but it the screen that does not comes back... all the system is workin in behind (its like the brightness level was set on the less power possible) so i had to turn off the computer and had to do for a long time some times i had to wait that the computer cooled off a little and then try again to turn it on... I some tried things that the support page of apple said it could be... but did worked out... i dont know i think is a problem over 2 factors...
    1. heating (the screen generates to many heat but, TO MANY!)
    2. tiger os the OS "sleep mode" (it knows that the screen its heating a lot and tries to go to sleep to prevent over heating and damage)
So based on this i tried conecting a external monitor to the computer while she was unable to "awake" (or to show some thing in the screen)... and it worked whit no problem at all... so my conclusion was to prevent the over heating (1st factor) and the sleep mode (2nd factor)... so I deactivated the sleep mode setting up the computer to a never sleep mode... and to prevente the over heating well I use a low bright and when i need more brightness (to se the colors of what im doing or some thing like that) I use high brightness... when I away I set the brightness level to no brightness so there is no over heat and no sleep mode (cus if it is deactivated and it over heats it will go to sleep anyway...
    Soooooo....
    1. deactivate Sleep mode...
    2. Activate a Screen saver...
    3. And remember to contro your brightness your self... and turn it off when you are not using your computer...
well i hope it works for some body :P cya...

  • Macbook Air 13" Mid2011 won't wake up after sleep again after replacing logic board

I have replaced my logic board a few days ago for the issue of not waking up after sleep.
It was good when I was in store and the same night.
1 day later, when I put the laptop to sleep by clicking the sleep menu item, I cannot wake it up by all means in the next morning!!!!! Again!!!!!
I hooked it with a 22" LCD monitor via thunderbold to HDMI+HDMI to DVI.  Will that cause issue?
I'm not sure when this will end, I cannot just keep replacing my logic board!

I have a Macbook Air and it also frequently (6 times out of 10) will not wake from sleep mode, only way to revive it is to hold down power button for 10 secs and force a restart. VERY FRUSTRATING!

  • Monitor won't wake up after sleep mode

Does anyone know how to fix the monitor, so it starts up after sleep mode? When my computer comes out of sleep mode the monitor doesn't always come on. Does anyone else have this problem and do you know the cause? The computer is only a few months old and hadn't had any problems.
    Thanks,
    Shaneil

It hasn't mattered how long these times have been set for because I have tried other times.  Most of the time it wakes with the mouse or the keyboard. Other times, when the white lighted on/off button is on steady and  not flashing on and off every 1 or 2 seconds. the computer and  monitor will not wake up. This has happened at least 15 times. I have tried loading a cd, pluging a usb tool and different devices all to no avail. I have to hold the on/off button for 3 or 4 seconds to shut down. I have tried hard shutdowns and unplugging computer. I can see a light next to the on/off light working as if it is trying to read something, ie flashing very fast. I've had 4 pavillions and this is a first. Bought through Costco and they don't know what to do. Thanks

    1) Check for HP updates, in case the problem is common and HP have issued a patch > Start > All programs > HP > HP update
    2) Reset your BIOS to default
Start your computer when the Windows screen appears > F10 this will take you to the BIOS page > F5  > Enter > F10 > Enter

  • Macbook pro screen won't wake up after sleep

I'm having a strange problem that just started today.
I close my macbook pro lid and put it asleep. Then when I open the lid the keyboard lights up. The screen comes on for about three seconds and everyone looks fine then the screen goes to sleep again. If I close the lid and open it again it comes on for 3 seconds and goes to sleep again.
Occasionally I can get it to stay on hitting Function and brightness keys. But just as often it takes a hard reset to get things working again. But then if I close the lid and open it the problem starts again.
    Any idea?
I'm running the lastest Lion update.

thanks. obviously i'd like to avoid such a time-intensive move before looking at other options.
To make things more intresting I've fund it ONLY does it when plugged into a charger.
AND if I briefly unplug the charger after the screen comes up black it immediately wakes up and stays on.
    weird.
I've reset the SMC. But still get the same issue (if plugged in).

  • My iMac won't wake up after sleep or screen saver.

For the last couple of days my late 2011 iMac (21 inch) has had this issue. If I press the power button, a dark screen will appear with the white cursor (*** apple?) and after a few seconds go back to sleep mode. The fans are running and the only way to turn it back on again is to force it by pressing the power button for 10 seconds or unplugging it.
I have tried reseting the SMC and PRAM, tried to repair the disk, deleted the Cashes and Cookies folders as shown on this post. I have updated the software from Mac OS X (10.7.2) to Mac OS X (10.7.5), showing no satisfying results.
My computer has never had an issue as serious as this one, as I can no longer just leave it there in standby without having to worry about an unsaved file or anything of the sort. What can I do?! Please help!

Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.
Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->

  • Mac won't wake up after sleep

When I leave my macbook pro unattended for a whie and come back to use it, the screen is dark (per screen saver) but I just can't wake it up. I have moved my fingers across the trackpad and pressed keyboard keys without any success. Every time, I need to restart Mac OS Lion.

expanding on my post yesterday it appears that ML puts the whole system into a deep sleep: when I returned to system this morning all was silent, no fans running, no disks turning.  After pressing power button briefly, iMac woke up but wireless KB and trackpad were dead until I pressed connection button on trackpad.    Message was displayed saying that connections to NAS RAID drive were lost 'ignore or disconnect' - I did nothing and this message disappeared. Finded showed no Shares at all.  Firewire drive used for Time Machine (and others) then awoke and Time Machine briefly turned.  Then a NAS Raid drive came to life on its own and, after a few minutes, Finder showed Sharing and then displayed the NAS - I clicked on NAS which displayed its partitions and then clicked on each individually to connect.
After all that, everything again seems as normal, but the above took around 10 minutes to achieve.
Energy Saver Settings are as below - unchanged since before ML (by me anyway)
I anticipate this whole procedure will repeat if I leave the system for an hour or so.
I shall next try changing Energy Saver settings by un-ticking the 'put disks to sleep' option.

Hello I am having an issue with my computer not waking up from sleep mode.
    Example:
I walk away from my computer for a certain amout of hours and it goes into sleep mode. I come back and move the mouse or hit any keys on the keyboard; nothing, doesnt come back to life.
I have the latest driver updates, I have tried looking this up but came up with nothing, and also I thought that I set it so it wouldn't go to sleep but don't know if I did it right.
    This is my computer:

Try resetting the power plans to the default. Enter this at an elevated command prompt.
       powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
If you need to repost, look on the Toshiba label on the bottom of your laptop. Gives us the full model name/number like Qosmio X505-Q830, and give us your model's part number like PQX33U-00K00H. As well, please confrim what OS version you're using like Windows 7 64bit.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.
    Mike
