Computer wont recognize new ipod

my last 30gb got stolen so today i went out and bought a new 80gb. i install the new itunes 7 and it doesnt recognize my ipod and i have no clue what to do. please help...thank you

forgot to say the found new hardware wizard comes up when i plug it in but i dontt have a cd to use. argg

I recently upgraded to the newest iTunes version and now my older Ipod is no longer recognized by my computer. iTunes doesnt open, it just gives me an error message in the bottom right corner saying Unknown Device. Ive tried looking for / updating drivers, reseting, everything and nothing works. I tried every USB port on my laptop as well. Running Win XP. Can anyone offer any other suggestions on how i can fix this???

Its been working perfectly for 4 years until last week. I have the USB/FireWire combo for hooking it up to my computer. It worked with all the older version of iTunes and now that 7.1.1 is on there, it wont recognize it at all. The computer is convinced there are no drivers for the "unknown device" and all searches performed for the missing drivers come up empty. The computer cannot see the iPod as an iPod, and none of this happened until I downloaded the most recent iTunes.

when i plug in my ipod into the right usb port it makes the connecting noise but nothing pops up and itunes does nothing. then when i look into the devices list it is under a category called unspecified and says that it needs troubleshooting. if i run the troubleshooting program it says it could not find a solution to the problem. i want to know how to fix this.

I was struggling with this since my latest Itunes update. Fiirst it would not recognize my IPad as a device, after correcting that, it would list the Ipad in my device but my Sync had no options (summry, info, etc). and it kept saying it was "Accessing Itunes store". reading your question I suddently tried deleting the itunes task (alt-ctrl, delete, processes) and delete Itunes. (By the way, I had rebooted my computer several times over the last few days). I opened up Itunes, and voila. Device is there. No "accessing windows" and my sync has the normal options.

so the girlfriend is moving in and we are consolidating to one computer. now for some reason itunes wont recognize her ipod or any others. in the past we had to problems, now all it does is freeze up until i disconnect her ipod. i tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it with no luck. any ideas on what i can do?

dont trust those dummies from genius bar there very incompetent and there techs terrible at problem solving I've figured out several problems with my ipod 30gb i used it in my car forever and it's never left my glove box i went to them for answers there was 1 problem they dint know the answer 1. was my center click stopped working i fixed that by taking it apart scratching it but i fixed it what happens is they got these rubber boots glued (not very smart)under the wheel there total of 5 of them over time if you leave your ipod in hot place the glue starts melting and rubber boot start to move. that when stops clicking

Does the iPod apear in in My Computer (if PC)?
Have you tried other cables?
Have yu tried another computer to verify yu have a comouter problem?

I had the same problems following the updater update on my ipod and pc. it became so bad that the mini pod became fried and i brought it back under warranty for a new one (and service charge of about $35 to swap them out!). When I got home I reinstalled all of the software from installation to itunes and it seemed to work. then i updated as prompted to the newer ipod software and got a serious error message again like before on my ipod and off and on recognition on itunes. i erased software again, reset pod a few times, and reinstalled without allowing the ipod updater to do anything to the original software. now it works again. warning against the updater. keep it old and simple.

I have recently gone to college and did not take the computer that I had used at home, which happened to be a dell, and now I am using an iMac. When i tried to plug in my iPod shuffle a window popped up saying that it had to delete all the songs to recognize the iPod in iTunes. How can I make this computer to recognize my iPod without deleting all my songs?

You can't, it is designed to work with only one computer/library.
After you tell it no, you can download 3rd party software (such as el ipodo) that will let you copy the songs as files to the mac, Add them to the Library, then, if you want to use iTunes, connect the Shuffle again and say Yes to link it. Your songs will be on the Mac and you can copy them back to the Shuffle.

When you connect the iPod to your computer and go to the Music tab to select which music you want to sync, iTunes will pop up a dialogue box that if you sync your music it will replace the music that is already on the iPod.
Since that sounds like what you want to do, just click ok and then sync.
