Computers can't see my ipod

I've plugged my ipod into multiple computers, with both its firewire and a usb cable. The ipod always says 'do not disconnect' but never shows up on screen or in itunes.
On one machine with multiple users I got a 'this ipod is in use by another user' and on one (the last one it worked on) I saw 'this device is a format that macintosh does not understand'.
I have performed the restore function and tried to get it into disk mode to reformat, but neither works.
Other than not being recognized by any computer, it works fine, charges in the stand, plays music, etc. But I have to be able to mount it, so wonder how to get it workin again.

Nope, thanks though. I tried removing the .kext file without success. Also ran ipod updater, but the computer doesn't see the ipod. However, both system profiler and disk utility see it.
When I ran verify in disk utility I get the following:
Verifying volume $B!H(Be-Learning Services iPod$B!I(B
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Keys out of order
The volume e-Learning Services iPod needs to be repaired.
Volume check failed.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
1 volume checked
     0 HFS volumes verified
     1 volume failed verification
I ran repair disk and get this:
Repairing disk for $B!H(Be-Learning Services iPod$B!I(B
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Keys out of order
Rebuilding Catalog B-tree.
The volume e-Learning Services iPod could not be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)

So does it have to go back to Apple now?

  • How come I can't see my Ipod Touch on Itunes?

When I had the 9.2 version (the one before 10), just recently before I changed it to 10, my Ipod Icon wouldn't show up on Itunes so I couldnt sync my ipod or do anything, even though it was plugged and was charging. So, then I was like okay, maybe that's my cue to download the newest version of Itunes. Well once I did that, I could sync and see my ipod again on Itunes for a few days, but just now, I plugged in my Ipod and it's doing the same thing again! It's charging, but I can't see my ipod and its options. So I'm not sure if it's my Ipods problem or maybe it's not compatible to the version? I have the 2Gen Ipod touch. Anyone know?

i too have a 2nd gen Touch and it works fine with iTunes 10.
    try this:
    (a) download the [_*Mac OS X v10.6.4 Update (Combo)*_|http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1048]
    (b) reboot into _*safe mode*_
    (c) launch *disk utility* (in applications/utilities), +verify disk+ and +repair permissions+
    (d) run the combo
    (e) after running the combo, let the Mac reboot normally and +repair permissions+ again.
    (f) run +software update+ from the  menu and install any updates offered.
connect your Touch now. what happens ?

  • How many different computers can i sync my ipod to and transfur music from?

how many different computers can i sync my ipod to and transfur music from? i am trying to sync my ipod to another laptop and add my music to that computer but i was wondering if there was a limit on how many computers you can do that with. thanks all.

You can authorize up to five computers for your iTunes purchases.
If manually managing your device you can add content from any library.
If automactially syncing content is managed from one library.
Purchased content can be transfered from a device into an authorised library, otherwise iTunes only transfers content to the device.

  • HT1386 How many different computers can I sync my iPod with?  My laptop crashed and was completely wiped clean and this was the machine that my iPod synced with so I don't know if it will be counted as a "new" computer.

You can sync with onee at a time. Syncing to another will erase the current content.
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Can't see my ipod in itunes and my computer

I can't see my ipod in itunes  and my computer. There is an error code 10
    please help

My problem is almost the same, I went to plug my 60g iPod into my PC USB port, and it locked up my computer and iPod. Now my iPod is stuck on the Do not disconnect screen and hasn't even changed the time at the top, still stuck at 10:05AM. I'm getting kind of upset here. I haven't even had the thing for over a year yet and I keep it in good shape.
Any ideas on how to fix would be helpful.
    Thank

  • Ubuntu, Windows, and iTunes can't see my iPod. What can I do?

I have an iPod 5g and i have been messing around with it and i discovered the problem of iTunesLock preventing me from accessing the iPod and putting itself back on. Well in a stroke of genius I deleted the Play Counts and iTunesLock files also trying to see if that would stop iTunesLock from reappearing every time i plug in my iPod.
Now my computer (running Ubuntu 7.10) does not see it at all. Also windows does not see it, until i remove it then it says my iPod is corrupted, but when i connect it, iTunes denies any knowledge of seeing it.
I tried to use this website to help and it did nothing for me.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/38851/2004/09/trubipod.html
Right now when i turn it on it shows the "Connect to computer. Use iTunes to restore iPod."
then it goes into disk mode. Strangely, even in disk mode neither windows nor Linux can see it.
I went into the diagnostics menu and everything seems to check out fine.
i know there is a .Trash-matthew file on the iPod and i have a great suspicion that if i can get on the iPod and see the hidden files then i could just put the file back.
Also BIOS does see it so I don't think its completely bricked yet.
I am using linux but I have access to Windows Vista. So I can work in either format.
for those versed in Linux here are some commands and their outputs for you to use:
