Computers downloading CAB files every hour on the hour

Hello, I can see from my firewall logs that most every computer on my network tries to download via port 80, Microsoft CAB files starting at midnight and then every hour on the hour, all day.
The sources seem to be Akamai sites: 64.129.104.174, 64.129.104.173, 64.129.104.150.
The CAB files are in the form of:
d5419256-6c9a-4ef5-bfe7-4eca1049d134.devicemetadata-ms
b3004f87-774a-4cc6-9c51-89264da4ed5a.devicemetadata-ms
fa054a55-da98-402c-b079-26e093f5aa2e.devicemetadata-ms
I understand these look to be device metadata packages for some piece or pieces of hardware, but I'm wondering if this is a normal behavior, and why every machine is doing this?  Is this a form of Windows update?
Thanks

Hi,
In order to analyze your issue better, if it's possible, please upload the whole Windows Firewall log file to OneDrive, and share the link here. The default path for the log is
%windir%\system32\logfiles\firewall\pfirewall.log.
In addition, these file is for your device. A driver package can install device metadata packages by copying them to the device metadata store. If you install some devices or update drivers, it will be downloaded. Make sure your port is opened. And
then update all your drivers manually the check the result.
If it doesn't help, located to this path:
C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Device Metadata\dmrccache\en-US
There you will see subfolders corresponding to your installed devices. Within each sub folder you'll see a folder named 'DeviceInformation'. Open it and let us know which devices has issue.
Note: The GUID (like d5419256-6c9a-4ef5-bfe7-4eca1049d134) should be same as what you see in the log file.

    Hello Monin.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Keeps Locking up every hour on the hour

Does anyone know of a virus that will cause a MacPro to lockup every hour on the hour, then when you restart your get on all white screen for a longtime finally you will get the start-up apple?
I left a computer on all night connected to the internet when I came in it was lockup. So I restarted and notice the startup screen was different.  Now I am seeing the same thing on another computer on the network. Any Ideas?

  • The Downloaded PDF file does not contain the Signature through BSP pages

    HI,
We have an requirement for Distributing the FORM 16 to all Employee's through our Website, where the user will login and download his own FORM 16 ( TDS Certificate)
This FORM 16 ( TDS Certificate ) is generated in SAP ( ECC 6.0 ) in Payroll Module.
To satisfy the above requirement we have done the following steps.
    1) First we have modified the standards SAP Sapscript(Layout) to incorporate the Signature of Authorised Payroll Person.
We have done this by uploading the BMP file ( though t-code SE78 ) and then calling this file in the Standards layout which prints the FORM 16 document.
    2) WE also Modifed the Dirver program to Download the above document in a .PDF  file.
The Program creates the seperate file for each employee and assigns the employee number as a file name to each downloaded file. These all files are downloaded on a Users Machine.
We opened the Downloaded .PDF files, and checked for the Signatures. The Signature were comming perfect as it ws uploaded.
    3) We uploaded these all FORM 16 PDF file off all emlpoyee's to a different SERVER ( BW 7.0 ). With the help of BASIS person, using the FTP utility.
    4) We wrote a BSP program to download this ulploaded PDF Files.
BUT we are facing a PROBLEM in the DOWNLOADED PDF file.
The Downloaded file does not contain the Signature which is there is the Original file we uploded this server.
All other data in the dowloaded PDF file is Perfect other than the Signature.
When we open the downlaoded PDF file it give's following  message on the Signautre page.
" Xobject not found named 00013"
The number of the Object comes different to different files.
We are using Function module 'SCMS_STRING_TO_XSTRING' to Convert string to Xstring
We are using the the " CALL METHOD CL_BSP_UTILITY=>DOWNLOAD" for downloading the PDF file.
Please suggest some solution if you can
    Thanks in advnace.

Hi, since installing mountain lion on my macbook, it wont download pdf files from internet sites, the same problem does not exist on my mac mini, i am using firefox on both macs, please help!

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

    To whom it may concern
i installed firefox on my mac, and wanted to download a file, after downloading again firefox after opening asks me if i want to download that file or not.
    i checked this link :
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions
there it says finding these plugins and reset them , but in my config those files are not in the list, also it says try to delete mimetypes.rdf , i deleted that file but again the problem exists. please help me.

Easiest on Mac OS X 10.7 is to use this button:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
    * Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
    * Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.
    * Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    * chflags nohidden ~/Library

  • I get unwanted massive page downloads to my download PDF file every time I attempt to download something I want; this download takes over my MacBook and I have to force quite to stop the download.

This started happening after I attempted to download my property tax report from the county. I will get the page I actually wanted to download but I also get page after page of unwanted material downloaded to my MacBook. The only way I can stop the massive page download is to force quite the MacBook and then restart it and delete all the unwanted pages.

I have updated my firefox files as directed, is there anything else I can or should do?

  • When I download a file, particularly PDF's, the file does not appear in the download box. Why?

The file will appear in the location that I set for downloads, but this is not convenient to constantly return to the computers main window and extract the file.

    Hi Stephen,
What version of MS Office are you using?
Are you facing the issue similar to that mentioned here: Acrobat/Reader: Attach to Email button not working for PDFs referenced from long URLs
Open Acrobat. Use the click-path Edit - Preferences - select the Category "Email Accounts". In the dialog there is the "Add Account" drop-down. Select "Add Other". The "Add Webmail Account" dialog presents. You'll fill out the dialog's fields with Outlook.com settings. (don't forget the "Advance Settings" button)
From a look-see on the web it appears that the following are the needed settings. BUT, you'll be wanting to validate.
The Outlook.com SMTP server settings for sending outgoing messages from an email program on desktop, cell phone or mobile device are:
    • Outlook.com SMTP server address: smtp.live.com
    • Outlook.com SMTP user name: Your full Outlook.com email address (not an alias)
    • Outlook.com SMTP password': Your Outlook.com password
    • Outlook.com SMTP port: 587
    • Outlook.com SMTP TLS/SSL encryption required: yes
For incoming messages from an Outlook.com account to an email program using POP, use the Windows Live Hotmail POP3 server settings.
The Outlook.com POP server settings for downloading new incoming messages to email program, cell phone or mobile device are:
    • Outlook.com POP server address: pop3.live.com
    • Outlook.com POP user name: Your full Outlook.com email address (not an alias)
    • Outlook.com POP password: Your Outlook.com password
    • Outlook.com POP port: 995
    • Outlook.com POP TLS/SSL encryption required: yes

  • The download window that pops up when you download a file used to showed the file w/pertinent info. Now the pop up is blank but it says download complete. How do I get the window to show info again?

The window opens and I get the download complete message but the info is not visible. Also the button at the bottom to clear window is not active. I have downloaded Adobe Reader but cannot find the file so I can install the reader. Something, somewhere has been changed and I cannot find out what and I don't know where to look.

I am syncing my iphone to my iTunes account and then I do a backup and also making sure all updates are current.  Then by going to the my phone and then going to the right and selecting the restore my iphone.

  • Why can't I download PDF files, and why does the "spinning beach ball" keep showing up?

I have a late 2008 iMac, 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 500 Gig Hardrive, and I'm using OS X 10.6.8.  In addition, there are three external drives - 750 G Maxtor, 1T Maxtor, and 1T LaCie for Time Machine.  There are only 20 Gigs left of space on the internal hard drive.   The two problems I continue to have are that PDF files are not visible when I click on the download link, and I keep seeing the "spinning beach ball" when I'm trying to work with photos in iPhoto '09 or Lightroom 4.1.  Sometimes it seems like the system is waiting for the 750 G external drive to activate before the beach ball disappears.  Can anyone tell me what's going on?

There are only 20 Gigs left of space on the internal hard drive.
That'll slow you down a bit.
See if disconnecting the LaCie helps.
See how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Cannot open a downloaded pdf file..."The file couldn't be opened because it isn't in the correct format."

I have had this problem several times lately: I cannot open a downloaded pdf file. The error message reads: "The file couldn't be opened because it isn't in the correct format." But, of course, it is a pdf file.

My MacBook Pro (2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5) is running OS X 10.9.4. Here is what happens when reading an online user manual that I want to save to the Desktop and read later as a PDF file on my iPad or phone. With Safari I will select "Export As PDF" and the file shows up on the desktop. Even after multiple trials, there will be a dialogue box indicating the file cannot be opened. If I check the file info, the size is "zero." Trying to save the file as a pdf using the Print menu yields the same results. I have tried both of these methods using Preview, Adobe Reader, and PDF Pen Pro. This strange behavior also occurred several weeks ago and I finally abandoned the effort. But when the same thing happens twice, it becomes an issue that needs to be resolved.

  • I am trying to upload a downloaded pdf file, but cannot open the downloaded files

I am trying to open 2 downloaded pdf files (ticketmaster tickets) from 4/23/11 so that I can upload them to stubhub.com and sell them. I can't even open a pdf file that I downloaded today? Plus, the pdf files are not being saved in my download file on my C disk as I have specified. Any suggestions?

I am 99.9% certain that all pages were uploaded. You can confirm this by downloading it and checking to see that it's all there.
The problem is that the file previewer within Workspaces.acrobat.com only displays the first 50 pages.
You might try our other file storage service at files.acrobat.com. The previewer there displays all pages of uploaded PDFs.
