Computers log onto neighbours network rather than my own

I am running an Extreme network with 2 Express stations attached for routing music. My Mac mini and my iBook (4 users) log's onto my neighbours network each time I log in resulting having to manually change to my own network.
My network is WEP protected and the password is stored in each of my users keychains. However, each time I log in it reverts back to my neighbous system.
This is a recent occurence since adding an express station and my new mac mini to the network.
Does anybody have any ideas for avoiding this frustrating issue?

Hi Yossie:
Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Navigate to: System Preferences>Network>Airport>By default join: Preferred Network, then select the network you want your mac to log-into. You can also remove the networks you don't want your mac to log into)
I hope this helps!

Hi, i have successfully configured a small amount of Office Updates following this link:
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4467-using-sccm-2012-in-a-lab-part-6-deploying-software-updates/
Now, the issue i have that it seems to have gone to the whole network rather than the group that i created. I am not sure how this is possible. Its not a major issue as the updates were required, but how did this happen? New to SCCM!
    SCCM 2012 R2
    Thanks

as @dekac99 says, which collection did you target the deployment to?
    Step 4 of
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4467-using-sccm-2012-in-a-lab-part-6-deploying-software-updates shows;

    - click Deploy
    - target the All Windows 7 Computers collection.....

  • Problem with Windows 98 logging onto wireless network

I have a unique issue that I am having some issues trying to fix. I have a
PC that is running Windows 98SE that connects to the network via a Cisco
Aironet 350 wireless card. I removed this card from another PC and it was
working fine a week and a half ago. I place this card in the other PC and
install the drivers and Novell Client 3.40 and I can't log onto the
network. The PC can associate to the AP though. I can also put in a regular
10/100 ethernet card and get on the network. We use 128-bit WEP encryption.
I have checked my WEP key and it's correct. I have set the client
properties based on another PC that is connected so that shouldn't be the
issue. I have 15 other PC's with the same card and client version that are
getting on the network just fine. Also when we look at our AP through the
web interface, in a column where it usually lists the authenticated
machine's IP addresses, it only says Unassigned for this machine. I am at a
loss of where to go next with this issue. I have been looking around not
only Novell's site but Cisco's as well and no dice there.I would truly
appreciate any help anyone could give me.
    Thank You

Bound applies to Protocols in general. (W9x versions, Not XP)
Open "Network". (You can right click "Network Neighborhood", select
Properties or use the control panel)
Inspect the "Properties" for each adapter listed on the Configuration
    Tab.
Do Not change anything at this time, and ALWAYS choose CANCEL for
safety . Once you have it figured, you will make and save changes :)
There are 3 groups of entries. Clients,Services,Protocols.
You choose to "Bind" a particular protocol(s) to a adapter(part of the
    Adapters properties).
Not all protocols need be bound to the SAME adapter (nor is it
desired). Example: Bind PPOE to dial-up, TCP/IP to the Wireless
adapter, IPX to the 10-100T WIRED adapter. << Example, do NOT really
    do this.
802.11 wireless DOES NOT support the IPX protocol. If your printers
use IPX (only), then you will need a Print Queue on the server for
that printer and PRINT to that PRINT Q from the wireless (or IP only)
    devices.
    Ah!

Start with getting a Internet connection to work.
That will also indicate that TCP/IP is working.
When you don't use DHCP, you have to do everything (settings)
    yourself, CORRECTLY :^)
IP (no clash with existing stations)
Subnet mask, same as every one else on the network.
    Gateway the A/P
DNS as needed, one should be your ISP's suggested.
Is the A/P correctly configured for your Non-DHCP network?
*AND* are you sure you have the proper adapter drivers for W98(se)????

I have an itunes account.  However, I need to copy music onto a different iPod than my own.  How do I do that?  Do I need to create a separate iTunes account for that iPod?

An account means an iTunes Store account which is an online service.  Do you mean that, or do you mean a library on a computer?
iOS devices can only be synced to one iTunes library at a time.  You can sync that iPod to your account but it will wipe everything currently on it.
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod - http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201253 - detailed example: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18860187#18860187
If you use manual syncing, you can sync items from more than one iTunes library to your iPod. (You can sync iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad with only one iTunes library.) When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113  and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
I could post another 2 pages of stuff trying to cover every possible scenario.  It would help if you let us know exactly what you want to do.  Are you trying to sync just a few songs (like giving them to a friend which is something iTunes is deliberately set up not to do)?

  • Mac keeps logging onto neighbour's network!

I have an Airport system connected to my hi-fi, which correctly appears as a network option. However, a rogue network has also appeared (I assume a neighbour).
I am a bit concerned about security and the like, so I'd like to set my Mac to not ever log onto the neighbour's network, and to only search for my own one.
I have tried SYSTEM PREFERENCES - NETWORK, but oddly the network names don't appear in the PREFERRED NETWORKS box. However, they do appear in the Finder's top taskbar.
How can I tell the Mac to only log into my hi-fi network (or - more importantly - ignore the rogue one).
    Thanks!

Very amusing. My daughter has an iBook with Airport. I'm not wireless, or wasn't over summer when she kept conveniently accessing the internet. Never the tekkie, I assumed it was by some invisible force ("magic"), courtesy of the amazing apple. Turns out she was innocently airporting off of several neighbors (pick anyone at any time); only one of them had put in a password, but sometimes she was limited if the non-password folks had their computer off. We didn't figure out what was going on for several months, when a tekkie's visit discovered it. She never did any mischief, but I agree with those concerned about security. Appreciate the info in those replies; we'll do that when I get upgraded.
I have Airport Extreme base station now, so neighbors are not necessary, LOL.

  • 10.9.3: Not able to log onto other networks than mine at home and Go Daddy outgoing mail not sending (smtp)

A week ago my go daddy email stopped working as it would receive but not send. It's an imap account and hence it would not connect to the smtp server when attemting to send. Incoming imap server works well. When trying to use a network outside my home, I discovered that I cannot log into other networks than my own any longer. Email and wifi on my phone works all fine. I have been on the phone with Apple and Go Daddy for 3 hours altogher, tried different solutions such as deleting anti virus software, deleting and resetting email account, tried different port versions etc to no avail. Since I can still not log on to other networks, I am suspecting it be an operating system error? Has anyone experienced a similar problem or has a possible solution please?

    Thanks. here it is:

  • Can I only bridge my network, rather than extending it?

I have an airport extreme, which I'm trying to use as a bridge for the wired devices in my entertainment system for HD streaming.  It mostly works, but has problems with multiple devices are active on the network.   The other end of the connection is a current model Time Capsule.  The Extreme is a previous generation (the flat style).
What I really want is only a bridge, but the option in the Airport utility is to "Extend a wireless network".   So, clients connect to the airport in the living room rather than the access point farther away.
    Can this be controlled?

Unfortunately, if you try to configure the AirPort Extreme to operate only as a bridge (Join a wireless network)...and not an extender....the Ethernet ports are not enabled on the device in that type of configuration, so it is virtually useless in that regard.
Try to minimize the obstructions in the wireless signal path between the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme as much as possible. Ideally, you want line-of-sight between the devices.
Ironically, a less expensive AirPort Express can be configured to "join" a wireless network....and....the Ethernet port is enabled when you do this.
The only way to try to control what device that computers connect to is temporarily turn off the WiFi on a Mac or iOS device, move it near the wireless access point and turn the WiFi back on to see if the device will pick up a signal from the closest and strongest access point.
Actually, a Mac laptop will usually automatically switch access points as it moves from one area to another and pick up the best signal from the closest access point, but iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad will not usually do this, since they have much simpler operating systems.

  • Copying a playlist onto USB drive rather than burning to CD

    Hi,
I've created a playlist of tracks which I want to load via USB stick into my car.
iTunes appears to only give the option of burning the playlist onto a CD or DVD.
Any ideas on how I can save the files direct to USB rather than creating a DVD and copying that to USB????
    thx

Drag the tracks from iTunes to the stick drive.  This will put them on the drive in whatever format they are in iTunes.  Not all car players play AAC format so you may need to convert them to mp3 in iTunes and then drag those files to the stick drive.
When you put them on the USB drive they won't be in playlist order.  Your car player will likely play them in alphabetical order according to how the copied files are named.  If you want a playlist you will have to read your car's manual because there isn't a standard for creating those for cars players.  It may use m3u which iTunes can also create in the File > Export menu, or it may use something that is more Windows-ish since usually the manufacturers  only cater to the larger Windows community.

  • HT4262 Airport Extreme "Snow"  to "Extend Network" (rather than WDS)

Can I use "extend" rather than "WDS" to increase wireless coverage on the "Snow Dome" Wireless G version of airport Extreme?
I see this option for the new airport Extreme base stations that have 802.11 N.
I DON'T see this option for the new airport Extreme base stations that have 802.11 N.
I want to extend my ATT U-Verse wireless network.
I want to extend my friend's wireless network (Non-ATT / unknown smaller provider)

Can I use "extend" rather than "WDS" to increase wireless coverage on the "Snow Dome" Wireless G version of airport Extreme?
No, the "extend" feature was introduced in 802.11"n" routers. You have an older 802.11 "b/g" device which is not compatible with the "extend" feature.
I want to extend my ATT U-Verse wireless network.
ATT U-Verse routers are not compatible with Apple products if you are trying to "extend" using wireless only.
I see this option for the new airport Extreme base stations that have 802.11 N.
    Correct
I DON'T see this option for the new airport Extreme base stations that have 802.11 N.
I'm guessing that you meant to say.........Extreme base stations that are 802.11"b/g" only....and not N as you mentioned. As mentioned above, this older version of the Apple router does not have a setting to "Extend a wireless network"
I want to extend my friend's wireless network (Non-ATT / unknown smaller provider)
Apple's "extend" feature will only work with other Apple 802.11n routers, if you are trying to "extend" using wireless only.

  • Log In using Query Rather Than a Table

    I am using CS5.
I would to login but get the username and password from a query rather than a table.
I am using ASP Vbscript.  The server behavior onlyl shows the tables, not the tables and queries.
I can change the SQL and it works but there must a better way,.
    Thanks

I don't think there is a better way. Defining a recordset based on a query is fine, but it's not something that DW handles natively.

  • Windows Vista can't log onto wifi network with Airport Extreme

Several problems with our network. 1. My sister's new Gateway laptop sees the network I set up from my Mac using my airport extreme, but cannot log on to it even when I removed password/encryption - even when I entered 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 in my DNS server fields. 2. the reason I even did the above is because although my Mac (Titanium G4 Powerbook previously running 10.2.8) could get on the network through the airport, I could not get to any site Google related until I read about the DNS entries as a work around. Yes the work around works but what's the real problem/fix? Regarding probem 1., some advice I'd gotten was to update the firmware on my base station as it might be a compatability issue with that and Vista. I begrudgingly upgraded to Tiger 10.4.6 then downloaded the patch to 10.4.10 (where I am now) which did lead me to an upgrade for my airport (5.3 to 5.6 now). Still, Windows cannot get on to the unsecure network!! What the heck do I need to do?!

I hope I may have found how to make the vista machines get to your Time Capsule. On the vista system go to network and sharing center. Then click on status, then you will see a window pop up with wireless network info. Click on Wireless properties and then click the advance tab at the bottom, a box without a check mark needs to be checked which says "connect if not broadcasting". I hope I got that right...try it, it's seemed to help for today at least.

  • Problem with email settings after trying to log onto secure network...

i was trying to access a network at work. when the "found networks" screen popped up, i selected the secured and then tried to enter the key. the IT guy didn't think it would work because he needed to know the mac address, but we tried it anyway.
apparently, we mis-typed the key, and shortly there after, the phone locked up (the screen would freeze). i plugged it into the computer to reset and eventually the phone would wake up and seemed to be ok, but i noticed that the phone was REALLY slow. also, when i unplugged the phone from my computer, if i put it to sleep, it wouldn't wake up and i would have to plug it back in to the computer to get the screen to show again (it could have just been slow to respond).
So, after dealing with the panic that my phone was defective, i decided to "restore" the phone. During the process, it asked if i wanted to restore from backup or "install as new" or something like that. thinking back to the nightmare activation period, i choose restore from backup. now, everything seems to be working ok, but when i try to send email, i get a "server doesn't recognize my email address" message. btw, i can receive email messages from my isp. i didn't have this problem before and can't help but wonder that something with that previous attempt to connect to that secure network is causing some problem...
i know this is a long message, but i tried to include all pertinant information in the hopes of someone being able to offer some suggestions. i guess my next stop will be the apple genius.
    thanks.

^ What he said. You can try changing the outgoing mail server to cwmx.com as well, just to see if that helps you out. If it does, it's most likely not connecting to the WiFi, rather it's using EDGE as that's an AT&T/Cingular (one entity?) server.

  • How to get my mac to log onto my network FIRST

When I start my MacBookAir (Yosemite 10.10.2) it always tries to log on to my neighbors network initially instead of mine.  It lists the networks in alphabetical order as as mine starts with an "S", I always have to select it from the list.  What is the simplest way to correct this?
    thanks

Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi in left side panel > Advanced button > drag networks into the order you prefer (and/or delete the other network if it is one you never use). Also, you can elect to remember the networks the computer has joined so it will log in automatically.
