Computers think Zen Micro is Nomad Juke

Help!?I own a Creative Zen Micro and have been quite happy with it (*knocks on wood). So happy with it, that last week I was in a pawn shop, saw another one and bought it. The only difference between it and my original one is the new one is black. Well.
It's a Zen Micro. Under system info, it says it's a Zen Micro. However, whenever I attach it to my computer (Windows XP) the window pops up and says "NOMAD Jukebox 2/3/Zen detected."? Whenever I try to update the firmwave/driver/anything, the application either locks up or doesn't seem to do anything.
My husband went in and cleared the hard dri've on it. The player says Zen Micro version .02.05, with 4749 mb. What can I do? I thought I got a bargain, but maybe not. Thanks in advance.

Does it have the same firmware version as your first Micro? [Menu-> System-> Information]
Did it come with the install CD? If so, have you tried running it's
What version of Windows and Windows Media Player are you running?
Is Windows fully updated?
I would try going to Device Manager [My Computer-> Control Panel-> System-> Device Manager] and check for the new Zen Micro.
Is there an error icon beside it's You could try manually updating its drivers and see if that hel
ps.
You can find the drivers and other necessary software on the Zen Micro software page.
Best of luck!

• Zen Micro isn't working on 2 computers out of th

Hi everybody.
Once I updated my zen micro player's firmware, it doesn't work on 2 computers out of 3.
There doesn't seem to be any sort of conflict with the device. The Zen Micro works on my laptop that runs a windows xp HOME edition. This seems to be the only difference with the other two computers, that have an OS win xp PRO.
The weird thing is that when I connect the device, a window pops out asking me if I want to synchronize the files. So far so good. The problem is that it is not recognized, there doesn't seem to be any device connected to the computer, and the pc asks me to connect the device. On the Device Manager the player is shown normally, that's why I say there should be no conflicts.
I tried unistalling and re-installing the installation cd, I also tried to update several times the player with a new driver. But I cannot do anything with the player because the pc tells me to connect the device.
This is driving me insane.
Hope somebody can help! =)

johnnyenglish,
Take a look at knowledgebase article #0053. It covers this topic and how to resolve it.

• Nomad Xtra, Zen Micro, and Zen To

I'm your typical money-starved college student and need to find the best sounding mp3 player for as less cash as possible. I have about 800-,000 songs from my cds that I would want to store, and would like to add some other songs from Kazaalite and Limewire. Is converting shared P2P mp3s and such going to be a problem(28-92KBps)? As it stands, I'm deciding on the Nomad Xtra 30GB($90), the Zen Touch($220), or the Zen Micro($220). First of all, I was wondering if the sound quality of any of these three players is necessarily better than the other two. That's my biggest concern. I also realize that the Zen Micro has the least amount of storage available, but the recorder, better quality in-box earbuds, fm tuner, and extra replaceable battery are advantages. It seems like this would save me the most money in the long run. With that in mind, Is swapping out play lists that are stored on my computer a reasonable way to compensate for the lack of storage on the Micro? Or would that be frustrating and should I just go with more storage? I would also like to know if any of these models are compatable with cassette or fm car transmitters, and does that actually work well? And finally, can the Nomad Xtra and Zen Touch comfortably fit into a pocket? Based on all of this, which would you reccomend for me since it will be my only mp3 player?
Also, is the Zen Touch's sealed battery an issue to consider? I'm not planning on buying another mp3 player for a while, and I would hate to have a battery die on me just a couple years after it's purchase and render my mp3 player a $200+ paperweight. Is there any sort of Apple-like battery refurbishing survace for the Zen Touch?

.) Q: Is converting shared P2P mp3s and such going to be a problem (28-92KBps)?
A: You don't have to convert any files to upload them to either the Xtra, Touch, or Micro. You can play pretty much any bitrate mp3, wma, and wav files.
2.) Q: I was wondering if the sound quality of any of these three players is necessarily better than the other two.
A: Not really. Based on everyone's reviews around here, they all sound the same. Each player has a custom equalizer for personal settings too (more bass/less treble, etc).
3.) Q: Is swapping out play lists that are stored on my computer a reasonable way to compensate for the lack of storage on the Micro?
A: To do that, you'd have to remove certain files then upload other ones. There's a synchronize option which could be used to do this a little easier. But it's not as easy as taking music database A on the MP3 player and replacing it with music database B from your computer.
4.) Q: Are any of these models compatable with cassette or fm car transmitters, and does that actually work well?
A: Yes, check out the Creative MP3 player accessories section for more info.
5.) Q: And finally, can the Nomad Xtra and Zen Touch comfortably fit into a pocket?
A: My Zen Xtra fits into every one of my pants' pockets. The Zen Touch is smaller than the Zen Xtra, so I would say that it would fit into your pocket even easier.
6.) Q: Based on all of this, which would you reccomend for me since it will be my only mp3 player?
A: Let the customers decide that for you. Check out the reviews in this thread
Hope this helps in your decision! If I were you I would probably go with the Zen Micro.

• Using Nomad Jukebox3 and Zen Micro on same

I use Nomad Jukebox3 and want to use another, smaller player (Zen Micro) for travelling. Are there any known problems with connecting and managing 2 separate Creative players on one PC?
Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks, Steve

You shouldn't have any problems.

• Thinking about becoming a Creative Zen Micro users, BU

I am looking for the Creative Zen Micro Photo that I saw announced on Cnet.com. This product is suppose to be the upgrade to the creative zen micro, but it will now have a COLOR screen. Does anyone know when it will be available, and how much it will cost? On cnet.com they said Quarter 2, which we are currently in.
Here is a link to the product:

• I think my ZEN MICRO is bro

One day my ZEN MICRO stopped working after a few days of lagging. Now it just starts up and tries to rebuild the library, but it only gets a little bit done then it shuts off after awhile. I've tried clean up and that doesn't work. Does anybody have any suggestions!

At this point I would recommend formatting the dri've on the player, and then re-loading all of your music.
If that doesn't work, you'll probably have to send it back.

• Thinking of buying Vision M to replace Zen Micro...have some queries on internal batte

After?wearing my 2-year-old zen micro into the ground, I've decided I want a Vision M. With my old micro, I'd?got through two batteries and was well on my way to a third - the battery just wasn't lasting long e nough?anymore. With the removable battery, I just replaced it, but I'm worried as to what will happen if I buy a Vision M. If the battery gets to the stage when it only lasts about 3-5 hours of play time, what would I do? I don't know if integrated batteries are more substancial than removable ones...if someone could let me know about this that'd be great. Thanks?in advance?=)

I had this same question and did some searching. I found the following site;http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archi'ves/2006/02/how-to-disassemble-the-creative-zen-vision-m.phpI'm guessing this would void the waranty, but I'm also guessing that by the time this was required the waranty wouldn't be a issue anymore anyway. Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

• ***Zen Micro Owners sign in! v. ineedadvice***

hey guys...
i've been on various forums searching for the right mp3 player for me.
i am currently stuck between the m:robe, and the zen micro. however, in this thread i wish to have some things clarified about the zen micro (and if you know anything about the m:robe, please do share )
just to make it easier to answer here are my questions:
. headphone jack issues, is this a prominent problem on the zen players? i would like to have a solid player, and the m:robe seems to be build very well.
2. firmware updating. i have windows 2000, and i read somewhere on the forums that the firmware needs to be updated on a computer with windows xp? can anybody clarify this?
3. restore os / firmware problems, it seems like a lot of people on here have problems with their computer not recognizing their ZM which in turn, leads to an RMA or return to the factory. i do not want to deal w/ any hassles
4. button problems, i also read a thread about the buttons only working well with the headphone plugged in / buttons only sometimes responding? is this a big issue with the players?
5. batteries, do all the new units come with 2 batteries? i also read that some ZM's still eat batts even when the unit isnt in operation?
and lastly
6. anything else you think i should know before buying this unit's (buying mrobe instead?, or any common problems that i might wanna know)
thanks very much for reading

Silver Zen Micro Limited Edition, bought in the US almost 2 months ago.
. No headphone jack issue over here.2. I wouldn't know. I run WinXP.3. XP recognized it pretty well after installing the drivers. Then swiched to MTP (PlaysForSure) Firmware, now it's recognized on computers that don't have the drivers installed too.4. Buttons work great. Scrolling can be a bit difficult at first, you'll get used to it.5. If you're planning on getting a free 2nd batt, hurry. I bought mine almost 2 months ago and got a Limited Edition. If possible, check whether you'll be getting a LE or not before buying (Extra batt ~40$) The Zen Micro does eat batt power while turned off (about hour playtime for the first 24 hours it's off... if you leave it off longer, it'll eat less batt power), but if you can recharge it everyday, this won't affect you much. (If you take the batt out, you'll have no problems with this issue)6. Some people have had troubles with Napster2Go service. If you're planning on using that, check with other users of the service!

• What is the technical reason for lack of Audible support on Zen Micro and othe

This is addressed to the any Creative developer who reads this. I am a developer and find it hard to understand why a relati'vely brain-dead product like a 28 Meg Muvo Nomad can support Audible but the more powerful Zen Micro's cannot.
Can someone give us the technical reason for this?

I dont think there is a technical reason behind it. A simple firmware update should be able to support Audible, OGG, and the rest of formats that the player does not support.

• Zen micro cd installation prob

hi i recently purchased a zen micro. when i try to install the software from the cd i pick the region and the language and then an error comes up saying the "demoshield player has encountered a problem and needs to close". this happens evry time and i have tried it on 2 differernt computers. has anyone experienced this and how did you fix it's

You can try downloading each individual piece of software required from the download page instead. You need the following:
. Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
2. Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
3. Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource
Install . then connect the player to the PC. Then install 2 (which needs the player connected for verification) followed by 3.
You can also download Zen Micro Media Explorer as well.

• Zen Micro and Li

I was thinking of going all out and only using Linux, since I am pretty Anti-Microsoft. But before I did that I wanted to know if I would still be able to put songs on my Zen Micro and charge it through the PC if I was using Linux. I am not sure which distro I am going to use yet. But I was thinking of switching soon. I just need to check into a few possible problems, and this is one of them.

There are 2 programs available:
XNJB: <a href='http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html' target=_blank>http://www.wentnet.com/projects/xnjb/index.html

Got a problem? Post it on the <a href='http://www.nomadness.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=4' target=_blank>Nomadness Linux Forum
btw all this came from the FAQ at the top of the boards

• ZEN MICRO, WINDOWS XP SE VS. WINDOWS XP PROFESIO

My Zen Micro works perfectly on my home computer with windows xp se, but at work the computers have XP pro, when I plug in the USB immediately recognizes the device but when I open the device manager it says the device is not conected.
The Zen Micro also works good with my Xbox 360, I'll appreciate any help you can provide on this issue, I really need to use the micro as a hard dri've since I have to bring work home.
Thank you. :smileyvery-happy:

Y'know, if all you need is to take your work home then you don't even need for the MTP to work.
Just use the UMS mode in your player's Extras menu.
Finally, as far as I know there are no WinXP SE, there are WinXP Home and Pro (where the only complains you'll EVER hear will be for the Home side) and there are WinXP SP / SP2 (which would definitely help...).
The way I see it there must me a hotfix that needs to be installed, thus, installing the files DM suggests HERE would help immensely I would think.
That, or you could simply try using windows update for all critical and software components...
Tell us how it goes.
CheerS!

• Zen micro registration & mac dri

I cant seem to register my zen in order to recieve my benefits! And is there a driver I can use for Zen micro on my mac OS9 ?Please help!!

Can't help with registering. That's best left to the support people. As for the Mac OS9. I don't think so. Officially there is only Windows OS support for the Micro. There are, however, some unofficial apps etc. for Linux and as an offshoot Mac OS X. I think the only way you will get anything under OS 9 is by using Virtual PC with a supported Windows OS or Linux and one of the options for it.
Here are a couple of great links for any new Micor/Zen/Nomad user.

• ZEN MICRO PHOTO USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNI

help !! i am also having a problem similar to your and just about everyone elses on here. I just purchased a zen microphoto for xmas a month ago and it has been a nightmare . it has worked for about a month perfectly then it ceased to be recognized by? my Alienware area 5 desktop system which previously recognized it fine. I took all of the steps and scanned all of the forums then realized that after uninstalling my windows media player and rolling back to 0 it began to be recognized again. well then surprisingly and maybe not so much so after looking at so many of the post of these forums. Well I have taken so many steps to try to get my ZEN MICRO PHOTO to once again become recognized by my computer? and yet again all efforts have been fruitless. I reformated my ZEN MICROPHOTO?and now when i plug it in a small window pops up at the bottom stating that the USB DEVICE IS NOT RECOGNIZED . I then cannot upload new firmware and can in fact do absolutely nothing but gaze at the player which boots up then fades to black while my pc sees my player as an unknown usb device. I even reformated the pc for the sake of the player , cutting off the nose despite the face in other words and still no dice. I have windows xp service pack 2 , all updates and bios up to date. My pc is only 2 years old and have a lexmark printer? a mouse and a keyboard attched to it , none of which create conflict. Even after reformatting my pc i made sure my player was one of the first peripherial devices connected and all to no avail. I think this is a disgrace that such a compnay as CREATIVE cannot put foward a quality product. Does anyone out there have any solid suggestions on how to fix this proiblem if so they would be gretaly apprecaited. ThanksEdward

vacantmind: You might also want to make sure that you get the latest drivers and software as follows:
Then install 2. and 3. (the player must be connected for 2. to verify you have a Creative product).
Also an important test is to install the drivers and software on another PC, say a friend's, and see whether you have the problem. If you don't, then the issue is with your PC, or a compatibility issue with the player. If you do, then there's something wrong with the cable or player.
