Computers won't recognize each other for iphoto transfer

I thought I would make this a new question... I've tried numerous times restarting each computer, but each still does not see the other? I have them connected via firewire.
Is there something simple I'm missing?
Thanks

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

  • Computers don't see each other on home network.

Recently set-up a wireless network. Using a linksys wrt54gs. A DSL modem is tied into this and desktop is hard wired into router. I also have two other laptops using the router wirelessly. The problem: All computers see the router and connect to the internet, but I can't seem to get them to see each other for file sharing and printer sharing from desktop. My wireless network has a name,  and the workgroup for each computer a different name from the wireless network, but all the same.
Desktop is XP, (1) laptop is NT, and the other is Vista.
I not a PC guru and probably a liitle over my head so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went home that night and done the same with AVG antivirus. Can't believe it was as simple as that.
configure your antivirus software like AVG or Norton to allow file and printer sharing as well as allowing your windows firewall to do the same.
Mine was in AVG firewall > settings (or Configure) > system > file and printer sharing......................just click on the dropdown box to allow.
As soon as I done this I went to my network places and the network files were visable.
other settings in there also solved my remote desktop problems.
Why couldn't I have thought of this 6 months ago.

  • 10.8.5 won't recognize my camera for download

My computer won't recognize my camera for picture downloads.  Worked before with older Mac system.

Your Panasonic should work fine under normal circumstances.
Remove the firewire hub from the loop. It will be a trouble maker.
Formatting must be Mac OS Extended. To check it, go to the firewire icon on your Desktop and right click it then select Get Info.
If it's not Mac OS Extended, use the disc utility to re-format, be aware that this will erase all files so BACKUP any imortant files before proceding.
You will need a spare firewire port to plug in the camera. Some externals have two, if yours has two, try it, otherwise you will have to add the suggested card to add the additional port.
    Does the G4 have two?
The card arrangement gives you an additional BUS and is light years ahead of a firewire port for video editing.

You need to go to the App stores and find compatible apps. iOS device do not natively have to ability to transfer info to a computer via BT to a computer.
With iOS 8 you can use AirDrop

My boss has an IPhone from a different carrier than my iPhone. I want to set up iMessage so we can text each other for free. Is that possible? If so, what do I do to my phone and/or hers to set it up?

Just turn on iMessage... Settings > Messsages > iMessage > On
Note that iMessage uses data (very small amount) so you need a cellular data (3G/4G) or wifi connection for iMessagae to work.  Also, in the Messages app, iMessages are blue and standard text messages are green.

  • Migration Assistant - Computers fail to find each other - Dell Windows 7hp to iMac OS X Mavericks - all firewalls on both machines are disabled

I dont post here often but after a few days of trying different things I am at a loss so here it goes:
Previous Machine: c2009 Dell, Windows 7 Home Premium
New Machine: late 2012 iMac, OS X Mavericks, Parallels 10 Installed
Both computers connected to existing business network via ethernet. All firewalls and updates are disabled on both computers, screen savers and sleep modes are also disabled.
The first strategy was to transfer data using the Parallels Migration Wizard. The wizard finds the PC and begins the transfer, but gets to about 1/5 progress and hangs/ stops every time in the same spot. I disabled everything (firewall, etc.) I can think of on the windows PC and it still hangs in the same place every time.
The second strategy was to use the Migration Assistant that came on the iMac. The computers fail to find each other every time. so I haven't been able to even start the process. Searching on the iMac Network folder I can find and access the Dell (after changing security settings on the Dell to allow this). From the Dell Network folder I am not able to find or access the iMac.
So, I have submitted a help request to Parallels to see what they can do to help, but I also wanted to reach out here in case someone has experienced this before.
    Thanks

  • Computers can't see each other after installing E3000

I've found several previous posts regarding my issue, but none of them have led me to a solution to my problem. Here is my problem. I have a small home network that I was able to share file and printers on, now I puchased and install a Cisco E3000 and my computers can no longer see each other. My current configurations is as such: I use DSL and have a 2 wire DSL modem with wireless capabilities. This particular modem has a port for the phone line and a port for local ethernet. I've taken the local ethernet and plugged in the internet port of the E3000. All computers can reach the internet but they cannot see each other. I've verified that file and print sharing is enabled on all computers. In fact if I remove the E3000 from the configuration and place them back onto the 2wire wireless connection they see each other. So I'm pretty certain that the firewall software on each PC will allow file and printer sharing. So that leads me to believe that my problem is in the E3000. It is perhaps blocking the network discovery protocol or something. Does anyone have any ideas how I can resolve this problem? Any help is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks Showguy82 that seems to have worked by allowing my computers on the network to appear under network tap in windows explorer.  However I'm still not able to access the computers. Something is being blocked by the E3000 because I completely disabled the fire wall on my PCs and still couldn't access them. Do you perhaps know what should be changed in the E3000 to allow access to the computers. Thanks for your help.

  • Can get onto Internet but Computers don't see each other

I've got my Linksys connected via ethernet to a desktop - using DSL. Security enabled.  Had my network set up fine - a wireless laptop sees the intenet connection and the computers saw each other fine (shared disks, etc.)... Today, my DSL went down for a bit - I jumped onto my neighbor's open wireless. My DSL came back up. THe desktop and laptop both see the internet. But they don't see each other any more. I've run those stupid wizards ten times. I've tried creating a new workgroup. They can ping each other. I don't get it.  HELP!

When changing settings for file/printer sharing on Windows it is always necessary to be patient. The whole workgroup browsing concept of windows requires some time to be up to date. I suggest you run the sharing wizard ones and follow the instructions there exactly.
Also try to ping the other computers to see if anything goes through.
As you have "jumped" to your neighbor's network for a moment also make sure you connect to the correct network. Better remove the neighbor's network from your list of preferred networks. Else you end up there accidentally.
Therefore, you should better setup the sharing while all computers are wired to the router.
Another possible cause could be the firewall on the computer. Make sure to turn it off to see if it is the problem. Most software firewalls (except the windows firewall) react very sensitive when you just 'jump' to another network and tend to block all traffic by default.Message Edited by gv on 02-09-200701:58 PM

  • Computers can't see each other on E3000

I am using a E3000 behind an ATT Uverse router. Every computer can connect to the internet. E3000 is used as DHCP and ATT Uverse is DNS. With this setup, computers can ping each other's IP address but can't use computer names. When names are resolved, ATT Uverse doesn't know IP address assigned by E3000 router so host is unreachable.
This is an issue since I can no longer share or backup files between computers in my home.
I have tried to use another router as a DHCP and DNS but then every computer uses the new router as the default internet gateway instead of the E3000 to the ATT Uverse router. It seems the heart of the matter is that E3000 doesn't have DNS capabilities and can't use a simple router for both the DNS and DHCP functions while retaining default internet gateway function.
    ANy suggestions?

I did all that. I can ping all computers as long as I use their IP address. It's definitely a name resolution problem.
My solution is that I disabled DHCP on the E3000 and made it a bridge on the Uverse network. Now, Uverse gives out the IP addresses via DHCP, tracks the name/IP relationship and resolves DNS for the Intranet. DNS for the Internet is solved by the network via the Uverse router. Now, I can ping IP addresses or names and get good responses.
As far as I know, each computer cannot track the Name/IP relationship for other computers on the same private network so I don't understand your comment 'handled by the operating system.'

  • X61T - How similar are models to each other for swapping parts purposes?

I recently purchased an X61 Tablet at auction and am loving it. I got a great deal and it is exceeding my expectations already. (This isn't my first ThinkPad, though.)
However, part of getting a great deal on it is that it isn't perfect. It was sold as surplus, and saw years of constant use before it made its way into my hands. There are a few things wrong with it that I've noticed, including:
The center latch is loose. It locks, but it feels like someone who hadn't used a ThinkPad before pulled up on the top HARD a few times instead of using the switch.
The slot where the pen goes doesn't have a way of ejecting the pen: the piece that grabs on to the pen's clip had broken off and was blocking the entire slot, so I removed it. The way the part broke means that there is no easy way to reattach it.
I would like to get these fixed, eventually. Now for my actual question:
How similar are the different models of X61T to each other?
My computer is a 7764-CTO. I was thinking about just buying a 'for parts' X61T for these plastic pieces and to have some pieces to keep it alive for as long as possible. I'm assuming that the CTO ('configure-to-order') doesn't matter much and that any 7764 should work, but would a different model (e.g. 7767-XXX) be similar enough to buy for parts? I have reviewed the Hardware Maintenance Manual and they sometimes list different FRUs. However, it is difficult to tell to which FRU a part belongs (particularly the above parts). Moreover, I imagine that the FRUs may have different numbers but be functionally equivalent on occasion.
For practical purposes of cannibalizing parts from one X61T to another, how similar are the different models (776X) to each other? I would hate to buy a 'for parts' computer and have slight differences render it useless for my purposes. Thanks!

X60T has a different (albeit swappable) LCD assembly, and utterly different palmrest and keyboard bezel. Couldn't tell you about the pen resting area since I've never looked into that...
    Cheers,

  • Computers can't find each other with home sharing

My home sharing has worked before but now I can't get my two computers to "see" each other. I have tried just about everything. Any helpful hints?

    Mac or PC...?
My first suggestion would be to check that the firewall on your router has the correct port/s open.
Then i would switch off home sharing on both machines, reboot both and set up again.
