If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done

How do I buy an iTunes gift certificate from US iTunes for someone who lives in Colombia? The fine print on the gift certificate page says it can only be redeemed in a US iTunes store.

OK, I see what point you were trying to make previously. You are talking about the misspelling of the name. That was SO not clear in your post. As you can tell, both roamminggnome and I missed your intent.
If you want to educate people on the common misspelling of the country Colombia, then state your case clearly. You will get a lot further that way. Being condescending about the mistake is not productive, and you won't achieve your goal that way.
That having been said, it seems a bit pointless to bring up a two year old post that has a spelling error in it and then post to it only to call out that error.
This is not an English course - it is a technical user to user forum. We have to put up with egregious spelling errors daily on this site. It is not the place to start a campaign on the proper spelling of the country Colombia. You might want to try to direct that considerable indignation somewhere where it will actually make a difference.
Sorry for the misspelling in my post of the country. I can promise you, I won't make that mistake again.

So if I want to buy an non-music app I need to buy an iTunes gift card?

I bought gift cards for myself and my family so we could download apps onto our iPads. The gift cards had the the little triangle emblem just like the App Store icon on our iPads.
But nowhere on the iPad App Store is there a method to redeem the gift cards. Phone Support just told me that I have purchased the wrong gift cards and that they are non-transferable.
So if I want to buy an iWork app, I must purchase an iTunes gift card? But I don't want to download music and I don't select the app from iTunes...I select it from the App Store
And if I buy the gift card with the App Store triangle emblem then that card is only good at the online retail store and not for apps?
It seems somewhat absurd to have 3 virtual storefronts (App, Online Retail, iTunes) that cannot take each others gift cards. Why can't Apple be as easy as Amazon? One gift card works everywhere.
Is there any way to use our gift cards to download for-pay apps? Or should I recover my money by disputing the purchase with my credit card company?

I took my iPad, my case #, my iPhone, and a printout of this thread to my local Apple store. What ultimately worked was to redeem the online store gift card through my iPhone Passbook and use the money to buy an iTunes gift card. Then I redeemed the iTunes gift card.
Not sure this will work with the gift cards I gave as presents and, if I lacked an iPhone (like my mother lacks) then I would have been S.O.L. Apparently the emailed online store gift cards are incompatible (no GCA code). Something for Apple to fix. Not having Passbook on iPad is another thing.

Where can I buy an iTunes card in Vietnam?

I am presently residing in VietNam and Apple makes me buy only through the Vietnam Appstore and iTunes Store. This is OK with me as I don't see much difference at least for the Apps I am interested in. The problem is that I can't download any paid Apps because I had to reset my Apple ID for no credit card. This is because a US card may not be used in the VN store and I do not have a Vietnamese Credit card.
I was told by an Apple support agent that I could use an iTunes card instead. I tried that with a card that I got from the US but I could not add it. The system told me the card was only good in the US store.
I woiuld like to buy an iTunes card that will work in Vietnam but I really don't know where. Future World which is the Apple Authorized Reseller in Ho Chi Minh City do not carry them. If anyone had them, I would think they would but they refered me to one of the cell phone providers and that turned up negative.
Apple is really the loser here as I would like to purchase Mountain Lion but I can't do it.
