Concept Of Offset file in Studio 11.3

Hi,
In the current system we are using, the input file is a flat file. All the triggering and data mapping is done by directly coding the offset in the corresponding data sections. If any offset is bound to change in the future, it is cumbersome to retrieve all the FAPs containing this offset and change it.
I was wondering if we have a concept of offset file in Studio, so that we could just change the offset information in this file and not make any change in the FAP. I am asking this because I happened to stumble across the RULW32.dll and saw some reference to offset file information like OFFSFILE.dat. Do we have any base rule which supports this concept in Studio from 11.3 till 12.0 (EE) ?

Have a look at page 6 of the v113gen.pdf manual distributed with 11.3, it explains the relationship between the two companies.
The custom code was integrated as part of a business agreement between the two companies, in an effort to make life a little bit easier for CSC programmers when a new version or patch level of Documaker was released by then Docucorp.
There is no documentation simply because it is not supported by Oracle: they did not code the rules and do not know (or care) how the related rules work. CSC owns and retained ownership of that custom code.
You will want to stay away from these custom rules because:
a) You cannot get any documentation on how they work, how to set it up, what changes are required in the AFGJOB, etc. You are flying blind.
b) Should you happen to figure out how to set it up, who will you call for support, should something go wrong? Oracle does not support these rules and you cannot call CSC.
c) CSC may decide in the future to move their customers away from OFFSFILE processing into the world of XML and ask Oracle to remove their custom code from the base product. If that happens, say in release 14.x, and your system stops working when you try to upgrade your installation to 14.x: what would you do then?
As Andy said, there are other Oracle ways to accomplish what you are looking for. It is documented and supported by Oracle and that should be your prime motivation to pick one of these Oracle solutions.

XDD Vs Offset file usage -Which is better approach

We are designing a new workspace (on Documaker 11.5) for a client sending a flat file input. To reduce the impact of offset driven changes we are planning to use either of the below:
1) XDD
2) OFFSET.DAT file for which we can update AFGJOB.JDT with folowing rules.

;CUSAltSearchRec;1;;
Based on the copybook/layout of the incoming file we should be able to build a XDD or OFFSET.DAT file.
The reason I am asking this question is we already have some experience with offset file approach, and we wanted to explore if XDD is a better approach from maintanance perspective.

The XDD extract mapping method is standard support.
The OFFSET.DAT file you mention was a pseudo-custom implementation originally submitted by CSC/PMSC for their customers. It was added to the product as a curtesy and not really promoted as a mainstream feature (if that is a good term). As such, that feature is not specifically targeted by QA testing or included in internal regression results. I'm not even sure it is documented. I doubt you would be able to get much help (or quickly) via Support if you had questions.
Therefore, the official recommendation would be to use the XDD, but if you have experience with the OFFSET.DAT method and are comfortable with the functionality, then the feature should still be available.

Subtitle timecode offset in dvd studio pro

I have a TXT file (write in stl language) with timecode in and out and relative subtitle...
But the txt file have the TC reference of a original Beta timecode... so Begin at 01:01:00:00
when I import my txt file in dvd studio all the subtitle are offset foraward because the MPG2 file begin at 00:00:00:00
I use time code offset and set in timeline Assettimecode but I have not result...
I write in the txt file the line $tapeoffset = true
but dvd studio pro don't import the file whit this string...
Please Help ME...

Welcome to the forums, Marco.
If the MPEG2 file starts at 00:00:00:00 and your subtitle file assumes a 01:00:00:00 start, and none of the other things you tried are working offset-wise, I would say to just edit your STL so that you change the leading 01: to an 00:
The way I would do this is with Bare Bones's TextWrangler (free) and do a search and replace. You would search for "\r01:" and replace with "\r00:", then search for "\r02:" and replace with "\r01:" (assuming it's not longer than 2 hrs).
The "\r" will only search for numbers preceded by a carriage return, so it'll only change the first number in the timecode and leave any others alone.

Eliminating/workarounding key date concept in Student File

Hi,
Short question: can I safely use a default key date of January 1, 1900 everywhere in Student File/Student Master data? with all organizational structure objects also created using this date?
The rationale behind this decision is to reduce confusion for the end user, which I noticed is more than likely.
A classical example is the possibility to version birth dates in Student Master Data even though logically this should be a single instance of data only. Ever. However, if we set the key date as "today" or the beginning of an academic period, any corrections would be seen as versions. This confuses the end user, which version is the current one and which one is merely a data correction (and shouldn't be visible at all).
However, won't setting the key date to 1900 have unexpected complications somewhere else? One complication I already noticed was with creating faculty as HR personnel (they serve as advisors for students and are later assigned in Student File). Faculty birth dates are not allowed to be entered in this case because (I assume) the system thinks faculty can't be born later than the object created (although student birth dates are OK even though the corresponding objects were also created at January 1, 1900)
Overall, is it possible to eliminate the key date concept from the Student File/Master Data completely? As it feels to do more harm than good.

Janek,
Of course becasue there is validity dating of the data values, it is necessary to use a key date when you display/change the data.
For the issue of fields like birthdate, you are right that any 'change' is pretty much a data correction. It is not possible for a student to really have different brithdates that were valid for different periods!
It really is something that users must be trained to do. If they are doing a data correction, they should change the data from the first data 'period', rather than just as of the current date.

License file for studio trial install

I just installed Studio (twice) for the 1st time and when I launch the app (from Windows) I see a dialog that says, "The existing license is invalid or expired" and a button to "Import License".
I used to have WLS 8.1 from 2005 but deleted that directory before installing. Any ideas why I'm being prompted for a license file?

The eval license is generated by the installer. It is placed in the
bea.home directory (usually C:\bea in Windows). All products share the
same license file (licenses are merged in a single license.bea file, it's
an XML file).
See if you can locate it, if not, try re-installing.

Help files measurement studio

Hi you Gurus,
I just bought full version of measurement studio. I installed it succesfully and started using it wihout problem untill I needed help ressources. The measurment studio did not installed any index extension help. I do not have acces to class,function definitions... Is that normal or what... Please help soon

That is not normal. Where are you looking for the help? You should be able to find it in the Start Menu under Programs->National Instruments->Measurement Studio->Help->Measurement Studio Reference. If you do not see this, look for a Help directory under the directory where you installed Measurement Studio. If the Help directory is there, look for a file called msref.chm and double-click that to launch the help.

Xml file from studio 2 to fcp 4.5

Hi I have my son on the other side of the world to me just now, we shot a short film on DVCPRO 720/25p I loged on my mac and made a copy for him to take and edit, all good so far.
The school has fcp 4.5 qt 7.6 (ithink) and of course he is working on a version and the version I am so I have sent him a xml file which should match v1.
when loading it stops at 50% now would that have to do with the fact that 4.5 dose not like dcvpro as this was shot on 25p in his setting there are only 24 30 60 no 50 or 25, i can remember, back then there was a plugin to get it to work is there any one who can spread some light on what to do.

Help required to understand the concepts for data files in tablespace

Hi Guys!
Conceptual understanding for data files.
A tablespace is having 2 datafiles.
What once the data files will get full? I know we can create data files but what if there is no space on the server for any additional file to be created?
Do we require to make the oldest file offline and move outside the environment?

ThanksIf the datafiles are full, there is not much that you would get from the "defragmentation" of the datafiles. It would be sort of like this in the start,

Then it will be ,

So what you are going to get is something like this, (if would be done),
FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU
So that's how the datafile would like. But that won't give you much of the space anyways still. The option to add a storage must be there with you. The file being offline wont take away the space that it has already allocated. And moreover, doing so, would also impact the access to the data that it would be storing within it.

Help files applescript studio

Hi everyone!
Ok I've read all the info and this should be something pretty easy (I think), but for some reason I'm not getting it. Here's what I did:
1. Made an index.html page and put it in a folder named MyApp Help and put that folder in MyApp bundle>Contents>Resources>English.lproj folder.
2. Put header in the index.html file like this: <meta name="AppleTitle" content="MyApp Help">
3. Added 2 strings in the info.plist with the names CFBundleHelpBookFolder and CFBundleHelpBookName with both having the name MyApp Help as the input.
4. Added the files into xcode groups and files.
It seems based on what I read that this should be it? But still no help file. Right now it's possible not everything is linked properly in Interface Builder, but if I open the Help Viewer and go to Library it should be there now right? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

I got it working!!! But some feedback would be great because here's what happened:
I started a brand new AS application just to check out the settings on a new project and I noticed that if I clicked the help menu it would display a dialog saying no help available. Now I didn't remember having that in my app and sure enough I was right. The difference is I started with a droplet form and I had to add in the help menu because the standard menu on a droplet doesn't have anything. But this added-in help menu that I put didn't display a dialog like the standard menu from the application template. And there is no help menu in the cocoa palette, you must just insert a menu item and make it into help. So I just copied the entire menu from the application template into my app and it worked right away! That's great but I just don't get exactly what the problem was? And hopefully not everyone that starts with a droplet template has the same problem??? :D:D:D

Creating mdf file from a database project in Visual Studio for Web

I am very new to database programming in Visual Studio and SQL Server Express LocalDB. I went through a walk through of setting up a database project (using visual studio express 2013 for web and SQL Server Express LocalDB), adding tables and entering data
and everything worked fine:

Then I wanted to move on to trying to build a simple application to access this database so I looked into the following tutorial:

In a nutshell the tutorial says to add a new datasource and navigate to the database file, and it is looking for an .mdf file.
The database project that I created does not have an mdf file in it, only sql file, visual studio project, dbmdl file, options file, source browser database, etc.
How do I create this .mdf file, that step didn't seem to be explained in the first tutorial. I tried running the project, but didn't see any build options for creating the .mdf file. Again, sorry for the absolute beginner question.

Import Pinnacle Studio project files

I have several Pinnacle Studio 9 project that I would like to import in Adobe Premiere Elements 7. How can I do that ?

Export the projects as DV-AVIs, the universal language of PC based video editors. You can then import those AVIs into Premiere Elements.
You can not, of course, actually open a work in progress project file from Studio in Premiere Elements, though, and vice versa.
