Concern regarding SAP Portal Performance

I don't know if this is the right area to post this message.  Please advise me if there is a more appropriate area.
I just finished signing up for the workshops at the up coming Boston TechEd '05. The sign up is done on the TechEd website at http://www.sapteched.com/usa. I am assuming that the TechEd website is built and maintained by SAP employees on the SAP EP.  During the sign-up session, I ran into a few 'System Errors' and 'ODBC Errors'.  Also, the page navigation was extremely slow.
My company is currently in the process of migrating to the SAP EP.  I am concerned that the SAP EP is not 'ready for prime time'.  If SAP employees cannot operate the portal at a higher level that what I just experienced, why should I believe my company will have success operating the SAP EP?

Hi Doug,
I also had the same problems when trying to sign up this morning. Though I am not an expert in this particular area, I guess it might have been temporary and caused by  a large number of people all trying to sign up for their desired hands on sessions at the same time. It started working smooth at around 11:45 am CST...

  • Employee Performance Management in SAP Portal

    Hi,
I would like some advice on the best possible way of implementing Performance Management through SAP Portal. What do you suggest?
I was reading about MSS business packages and it comes with two iviews: Status Overview and Performance Management Document; is that all that is necessary to complete the performance process through portal ? I imagine the appraisal documents gets updated and some workflow is configured for approval and review cycle.
Well, any documentation, or experience you can share with me will be very useful.
    Thanks
    Ivan

There is a lot of configuration on the SAP side that needs to be done.  I suggest hiring an experienced consultant and save your time and headaches.  Also, watch out for Portal and SAP upgrades.  They don't always offer a migration tool and you may have to re-implement somethings after an upgrade of one or the other.  Annoying.

  • SAP HCM Performance Management Reporting in Portal

Hi guys, can anybody help me by telling me what are the standard Portal reports provided by SAP HCM Performance Management in ECC 6.0 EHP4?
If possible I would also appreciate that you can send me some screenshots.
    Thanks

    Did you get the solution?
I also have the same requirement but did not find any solution.I have posted a similar question on SDN.

  • BI portal VS  SAP portal

    Hello,
We are thinking about implementing the BI 7.0 and publishing some reports with it in Portal. Question is should we use the BI portal or SAP EP portal?  We are already having SAP EP 7.0 installed and BI portal (with BI) is also installed.
For performance reason -- we should use the BI portal for report  and links these reports  in main SAP portal so user has one single point of to see the report from SAP EP.
My thoughts on performance on single source of (main) portal for BI and all the other stuff on main Portal  should not be an issue because all the work for querying the reports will be done in BI server, Portal is only show the reports ? is this assumption is correct?
If we have two portal, as system admin we have to maintain two different portals,
What be the best approach (pro and cons) using the BI Portal VS SAP Portal?
    Please advice.

  • Multiple versions of the same Web Dynpro application on the same SAP Portal

I have a single application (local development) and deploy directly to a SAP Portal(NW 7.0) from NWDS Version: 7.0.15
No problems there, works like a charm.
But I want to have multiple versions of the same application on one portal. Eg. ill build a version 1.0 for test and deploy this. Then continue to work on version 1.1 deploying this directly on the portal. The two versions should now co-existing under different names and/or packages.
    Please help.

    Hi Kim,
May be you can try this and see if this works for you. I am not 100% sure if it will work for you, but worth a try I guess. Create a Test WebDynpro project and try the following steps on this project. If they work  out correctly and serve the purpose for you only then try them on your actual Web Dynpro project.
    1. Create a test Web Dynpro project  say "TestWDProject" with Component say "Comp1" and the default views and windows etc.
Also create some working application our of this component and Windows using the Context.
    2. Right click the "Comp1" and select Copy.
    3. Right click 'Components" node in the project structure and select "Paste"
4.This step will try to paste the copy of Comp1 as a new Component.
    5. You can change the Name and Package of the Component.
6.Similarly you'll get the prompts for views, windows etc.
7.Once you have copied everything, Just check if everything looks good.
8.Now you can create a new Application using this new component and the Component Interface View and Deploy it.
9.Test whether the Application created out of this copy works same as the original component.
You can also try to create another Web Dynpro project and paste the Comp1 in the Components node of that new project and perform the same steps.
Again, try with these Test Projects and see if this serves your purpose before applying the steps on actual projects.
    Regards,
    Ajay

  • Import and export MDM with the SAP Portal

    Hi,
Would you have any clue on how to handle import and export from the SAP portal ?
I need your help because I haven't found any standard iView to perform these functions
The only information i got were some explanations on WebDynpro Java iViews using events to export from the Portal.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
MDM iViews are only meant to perform MDM Data Manager operations but on limited basis. EP-MDM scenario has been designed for end users only which should not allow to perform complex data manager operations and they need not install MDM Clients.
Thats why importing and exporting functionalities are not possible in standard MDM iviews.

  • BlackBerry Browser Channel Push from SAP Portal

I have posted the following on blackberry forums, not much success, maybe some portal person can suggest how to move forward. I've taken some standard blackberry java code that pushes a web page to a blackberry device, and executed from my java vm and it works. I then put the same java code inside an AbstractPortalComponent, and executed from portal, it does not work. Read following posting on blackberry forums ...
I am attempting to implement a simple Browser Channel Push from within SAP Portal server.
I have successfully executed  standard code from my local Java VM. I get the custom icon on my blackberry device, and when I click on it, it loads the web page from device cache.
I have moved the exact same code into a SAP wrapper method and executed from SAP Portal. There are no additions in my code relating to the push.
I get the custom icon on my blackberry, but when I click on it, a http request is performed every time.
Below is the MDS log for the successful push, from local java:

    The differences I see:
    1)     The push from SAP has 15 headers compared to 13
    2)     The Sending and Receiving SIZE values
Can you assist me with identifying why these differences are occurring.
If I can solve these, I believe my Push from SAP will work.

    hi
You can use UME API and do a force login, but I would recommend to use this only if the user is an authenticated user.
    request.setAttribute(ILoginConstants.LOGON_UID_ALIAS, "userID");
    UMFactory.getLogonAuthenticator().logon(request,response,"uidpwdlogon");
you can also do a force logon using
    UMFactory.getAuthenticator().forceLoggedInUser(request, response);

  • Com.sap.portal.connectivity.destinations.PortalDestinationsServiceException

    Hi
I am getting this error for some users in the portal.
com.sap.portal.connectivity.destinations.PortalDestinationsServiceException:User is missing credentials for connecting to alias SAP_R3_humanResources.
This is only happenning for some of the users at the moment and I cannot figure out what is causing it.
    We have:
    EP7 for Online Expenses
    ECC6
I have re-registered the WebFlowConnector just to see if thats the problem.
I have checked the users portal roles and his backend roles and all are OK
I have also checked the Web Dynpro connector for SAP_R3_HumanResources.
Can anybody help me out on this please.
    Many Thanks
    Steve

    Got this from SAP

The UWL_service was introduced in NW 700. So, 1133821 will not be relavant for NW 6.40. However, in 640 system we use Basis plugins.
So, to check that please provide me the complete backend system version. The UWL uses functions from the Basis plug in instead of the Enterprise Portal plug in (WP-PI 6.0) for back end systems using Release 640. Support Package 12 makes the necessary functions available in the Basis. You can make the necessary changes in the Basis plug in (PI_BASIS) using notes or Support Packages.
Could you please check which release are you on? Remember after you applies this (SP12), you will need to reregister the UWL system in the system admin on the portal. *This is not only for substitution, but for other functionality as well* We recommend this for 640 systems in general that the PI_BASIS is maintained at the highest level.
This warning message will occur for users that do not have access to the systems that are configured in the UWL UI. For example, if we have 1. BW system 2. SRM system, and you 'steve', are able and have access to the BW system, but do not have a Userid in SRM backend, you will receive this msg. This is normal behaviour for the Universal worklist. So your option there would be to create a dummy id for you on the backend system so that your id can connect but that you don't have auth to.

You seems to be on lower version for Basis Plug-ins. The basis plug in should be at version 12 or higher and is at version 9. You will need to ensure that the users exist in both systems to get rid of the warning messages. Details for the Basis Plug-ins can be found on Note:883558.
    3rd reply
If I am right then you are talking about the solution provided to get rid of the warning message.
So, in this regard as Steve already mentoned The Portal is an EP7 portal running on NW 7.0 SP20. It has to connect to {2 different R3 backends}.
    1. ECC 6 running on NW 7.0 and UWL is configured with a SAP_ECC_TRAVEL WebFlow Connector (this works perfectly)
    2. ECC 5 running on NW 6.40 and UWL is configured with a SAP_R3_HumanResources WebFlowConnector (please see attachment for error)
So, In reply to this I mentioned that to get rid of the warning message you have create users in both the systems. May be you do not grant authorization as per your requirement.
because these warning message are been displayed because the UWL UI havebeen configured to pull tasks from 2 backends. and User logging in mighthave access to only one backend system so, that's the reason for other R3 system they get the warning message.
Or if there is a concern with basis Plug-ins then it will be adviced to refer to the Notes, as those are system requirement.

  • SAP Portal Network Sizing.

    Hi Friends,
We are implementing SAP Portal for ESS/MSS.
We would like to know whether, we have required computer network resources or not.
How we can check whether we have enough bandwidth that SAP Portal would need.
Please advise how we can check existing network. And what are the values SAP recommand to have ?
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Prashanth.R.G.

    Prashanth,
Portal sizing is based on SAPS. Based on the number of users, please use the Sap Quick Sizer tool and calculate the SAPS. You need to work with hardware vendors such as IBM, SUN, DELL, and HP to find out the best server platform that you can use for your requirements considering different metrics in to account such as Processor, Virtualization, OS, Memory, DB per CPU, High-Availability, Implementation cost, server consolidation ratio, hardware/software breakdown cost and etc.,
You can find some info at http://www.sizinglounge.com
Specific to the enterprise portal, you need to check several tuning parameters to fine-tune the performance, Most of these can be identified in SAP Going-Live GA, GO, and GV checks.
When you talk about bandwidth, you need to work with your network admin based on where your user base comes from? Intranet? Extranet? Internet? There are different tools available such as sniffers to do an end-to-end testing. Hope this helps.

  • Embedding Guided Procedures Runtime into Non-SAP-Portal

    Hello,
I'm developing a workflow using the Visual Composer and the Guided Procedures.
Unfortunately, the workflow should be accessible from a non-SAP-Portal. The users of this portal and the workflow should not be aware that they are actually using SAP-Portal content.
    This only concerns the GUI.
Is it (and how) possible to embed the Guided Procedures Runtime GUI into a non-SAP-Portal?
    Best regards
    Alexander

Thanks a lot for your quick response.
Based on the information provided in your answer, I found the following document:
