Concerned about Roku eating up bandwidth when not watching a movie

I stream Netflix movies from my Roku through my Airport Extreme (802.11n) into my TV. When I look at the Airport "Wireless Clients" panel under "Advanced" >> "Logs and Statistics" to see who is using the Airport device, I notice that the Roku box is connected and using bandwidth, even though my TV is not turned on and I'm not streaming a movie from Netflix.
Apparently the Roku device is consuming bandwidth, even when I'm not "using" it (and the power supply is on). The "Rate" column in the Airport "Wireless Clients" panel seems at times to be even higher than when I am streaming a movie. Of course the connection disappears altogether when I unplug the power supply to the Roku. That's not very convenient because it takes several minutes to reboot it, but I don't know any other way to turn it off.
I'm just wondering what you experts out there would do. Is it worth unplugging the Roku when I'm not using it to conserve bandwidth? Whatever the answer it puzzles me that when I'm not using it, the Roku box is taking up bandwidth when it is just "idling." Any thoughts about that?

I believe the "rate" column displays the speed of your connection, not the bandwidth being used. This number changes all of the time depending on interference near your AE. Mine will bounce between 116 and 300 even if the network is idle. That graph you see on the statistics page shows the signal strength, not bandwidth usage.

I rented Bad Teacher and in the middle of me watching it, it froze and i had to quit it and then i could not watch the movie anymore. Where did it go? I was not passed any rental periods.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I have bought 1 MacbookPor 17, 1 Macbook air, 1 MacbookPro 15 , 2 ipads, 3 iphones, and this iMac27 and 2 of iMAC24 or 20 not sure   but I do not recall ever doing what you are telling me in your reply.   When you get a extended car warranty, you don't   sign up for it.. it is just there and is included in the sale.   You don't buy this warranty to use it.. You buy it, in case something happens.   Here a perfect iMAC with minimum 100 hour useage has a dead drive. That is not normal and I should not have to even be requesting anything since most MFG offer a 3-5 year warranty on their disc drives and I believe that is probably passed on to Apple regardless if an extended warranty is purchased or not.   Customer service dictates a more flexible approach to make sure the lifetime value of a customer is not lost due to some misunderstanding.
I was in the MacStore that I purchased the unit..and they found and pulled the invoice and confirmed
the purchase of it in front of me. I had paid with credit card and fortunately it was there in their system.   I do not also recall recieving any box or paper although most everything I ever get remains sealed.. I am not in the habit of opening anything since I have never encountered any serious issues before.
   I have used my Macbookpro warranty 1 time and that is all throughout the years I have been investing in Apple equipment.
I just recieved a letter from the store asking me to get the paper to them so they can register it... I don't recall getting any paper actually. But I do have several boxes sealed here.. On this iMAC27, it was a hurry up and get it done thing and I don't remember taking anything extra with it.   Regardless, my request does not seem unreasonable.

What Adobe Digital app on your iPad? If you are talking about a third-party app (like Bluefire Reader) you need to connect your iPad to your computer, open iTunes, select the iPad, and select Apps in the Sidebar. Scroll down to the File Sharing section, select the app you plan on using, select Add (bottom right), navigate to where the book is on your computer, select the book and sync your iPad.

As has been discussed on these forums thousands of times, Adobe does not make a flash player for iphone/ipad/ipod and likely never will.
You can do a forum search and find countless posts on this.

Shutting off power strip when not watching television

Before I subscribed to FIOS I always shut off my power strip on my plasma television to save money on my electric bill. I continued to so, but shortly after I subscribed to FIOS, a technician had to give us a new box. My son is guessing we needed a new box because of shutting off the power strip. My electrical bills are considerably higher now.
Do you think we will have problems if we shut off the power strip when not using the television?

The only ptoblem with shutting off the power strip is how long you have to wait for the box to reboot when you turn it back on. Also most of Verizon's updates occur at night while you are sleeping.

When i watch a movie trailer from the home page, it continually restarts. How come?

I Noticed that when watching the movie trailers from the apple home page, the vide will start and go a random amount of time and then restart. This happens over and over. Can anyone help?

I'm probably not describing these terms correctly but here goes. The progress bar starts and you can see the downloaded portion ahead of the actual time bar. I don't even hit start and once the downloaded section gets out far enough, the movie starts by itself. In the past if the actual time bar caught up with the downloaded portion it would just freeze until more had downloaded. Now I guess what's happening is if it gets too close, it just restarts? I tried what you said and paused the trailer until the whole trailer downloaded. When I did that, the trailer played through without restarting. Is there a setting to adjust this or am I just a victim of slow DSL?

Why can i not watch a movie in itunes

An existing installation of the Logic Express or Logic Pro 7 application will not be deleted by Logic Pro 8, allowing you to continue working with it.

Corrupted? I don't see why it would corrupt files per se. But if you want to be totally safe about things, make a backup first. Don't just install the new software and "hope for the best", cuz Murphy's Law is guaranteed to take effect. Back up first, install new software, play around with it. If something ends up sounding funky or whatever you can always access your original files from the backup.

This is a new computer and it has always performed this way.

Well, I have a 610 at home and I don't have this issue. It's actually my best PC. But mine is very close to my modem. I do know that when a lot of people in my house are using the network it will slow down video buffering for all systems on the network.
Just for the sake of troubleshooting, you may want to try connecting your PC directly to the modem and/or moving it closer to the modem to see if the connection improves.
You may also want to install the latest wireless driver for your PC:
