Concerns Over Purchasing the MBP 17"

I am so close to buying this bad boy, but I am reluntant...
Is anyone under the impression that there are going to be significant upgrades by December?
I don't really care about cpu speeds as they are always going to get higher and higher, but intel has some new chips coming out, wireless N is approaching, higher rez displays maybe...
I am currently on a pretty beat up Powerbook G4 1.25 so I know there is going to be a HUGE difference, but I'm wondering whether or not I should wait...
....Though I'm not sure I am capable of waiting...
What I'd really like so for someone to talk me into getting it. I'd like to go get it tomorrow so if you could be really convincing...

No way! Do not wait. These new MacBook Pro are awesome. All the kinks have now been worked out creating a flawless machine to get work done and last about 3 to 5 years before its time to do it all over again.
My rule of thumb is if I am doubling my speed and getting at least 10 true benefits, its worth the upgrade. I was on the fence until last sunday. I bought the 17 inch and I am very happy I did. There maybe a speed increase at the end of the year but until an all new design is created by Apple this is the way to go.
The most you're going to get as far as speed is concerned is probably 10 percent increase against the latest 17 inchers. You really have to ask yourself what are you going to be doing with the machine to justify the wait and the cost. How long will it be before the kinks are ironed out on that new machine?
I went from a G4 867 that I put a 1.4 dual processor in. I got the following in my new purchase of my 17 inch:
1. Ability to do windows using parallel or bootcamp
2. Higher ram ability and capacity
3. Built in isight
4. Built in WIFI
5. Built in Bluetooth
6. The Intel Core Duo
7. Front Row

12. Portable vs Desktop (doesnt apply to you)
13. Illuminated keyboard
14. Better power adapter
15. Faster frontside bus
and much, much more - software blah, blah, blah.
For me, it was well worth it.

I have had my rMBP since June 20th and the only issue I experienced was my right USB 3 port not recognizing USB 3. I easily fixed that issue using one of the solutions in this link.
Other than the above, I have had no issues and am truly enjoying my rMBP! It is totally safe to purchase. Just be aware of some of the issues others are having and their solutions. Also, you have 14 days with which to return the laptop if it's not meeting your needs. Hopefully, you have local Apple Stores nearby in case you need to take it in to be checked.

However, some won't play and ask me for the password for the apple id they were purchased under. 2 of these ids are obsolete and I have no access to those accts. The songs all played on my old computer without prompting me for a password.
Any ideas how I can get around this hassle and get them all to play? We're talking about 800 songs that are being obstinate. The new computer is authorized under my "new" Apple id, which I have used for years.

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
Music Rescue is a program you can use to transfer any and all data (music, movies, pictures..) from your iPod to your computer, and iTunes.

Nearly automatically.
This will be a major upgrade, and Aperture will have to upgrade your library.
As a precaution, make sure you have a working backup of your library, and I'd keep a copy of the Aperture 2.1.4 Application installer as well.
Also it is recommended to repair the permissions and to rebuild the library, to make sure that the library has no corruptions before you upgrade.
Rename the Aperture Library to a name different from the default name before you upgrade.
Launch the new Aperture version by double clicking your Aperture library. Aperture will prompt you, that it is necessary to upgrade the library; let it run, this may take a while. And yes, you should find all your photos, projects, folders, etc. after the upgrade just as you imported and organized them.

Your purchase of licensed version of Adobe applications does apply to CC subscriptions. If you subscribe you will pay for the subscription on whatever periodic basis you choose (monthly versus annually).

How did you restore from your old hard drive?
Technically all that was needed was to use Migration Assistant on the fresh OS X install to migrate users accounts and programs to the new machine.
You can use a SATA to USB adapter to connect the old drive if you want to go that way and start over with a fresh install again on the new drive.

You can definitely transfer your work as right now with a trial account you only have 2GB cloud storage space which would increase to 20GB with a license for the same.
