Concerns w/ MSI fx5600XT 256 Card

I am looking for a video card to go with my
New MSI kt6 deltaLSR mobo w/ 2500 barton chip
I have 1 GIG of samsung  (512x2) PC3200 400MHz Dual Channel DDR sdram
waiting for the Mobo to arrive
I have 2 concerns about what was a soon to be purchased MSI fx5600xt 256 Video Card
1.) "Special notes for midrange graphics card buyers:
Avoid 256 MB versions and save money. 256 MB VRAM is useless with these cards and card manufacturers often use inferior memory in 256 MB cards"
Quote from Toms Hardware guide
2.)  "GeForce FX5600 (non-Ultra)
        Pros- DX9 support
Cons- Gets wasted by Radeons. Not good value for money
      GeForce FX5600 Ultra rev1.0/2.0
Pros- DX9 support, fairly good DX8 performance (rev2.0)
Cons- Poor DX9 perforamance, Radeon 9600 Pro and faster cards are      much better for both DX8 and DX9. Not good value for money
Now I know this is a MSI site and I don't want to get flamed
But i have a limited budget and can't upgrade all the time or waste money
I just want honest answers and opinions...
1.) Is the Toms hardware guide Skewed?
2.) is the 5600xt better than the Ultras?
3.) Is the 256 MB worth spending the extra money on instead of the 128mb
4.) Would the ATI cards be the better value right now for the price and time of the cards on the market

first off nvidia's "XT" models are the opposite of ATI's "XT" models. They are a lower end version and are like ati's "SE" models.
my suggestion would be to buy an old 9500NP and then softmod it to a 9700NP(which has 8 pixel pipelines compared to 4, which means better performance by nearly double).  but, sometimes it doesnt work. so dont blame me if it doesnt work. u can always change it back later thought.
you can get it here(has to be this model and have the "L" shaped memory): http://store.yahoo.com/buyaib/atirad9512dd.html
and u can download the drivers for the mod here: http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/download.php

    Hi All,
I have just bought a MSI FX5600XT ULTRA 256MB Graphics Card
    Just a few questions -
    1) Do the latest 5303xp drivers work well with this card, is this card supported
    2) Does DX9 work well with this card or is it better sticking with DX8
Any advice , suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

  • MSI FX5600XT problems with agp 4x and other stuff

    Well
    I just bought myself a MSI FX5600XT-TD128
I had a Hercules (guillemot) GEFORCE2 PRO (clock higher than GTS and slower than Ultra).
I'm not sure if my previous videocard (the gf2pro) would run stable @ 4x or run @ 4x at all.. I know my motherboard is capable of agp 4x, the old videocard I am not sure it was..
WEll, I bought the msi, plugged in and no post.
so I take the card out, put it back in, posted... 5mins later, crash..
    No post..
So I put the old videocard in (gf2pro) and disable agp4x in the bios, plug the msi back in and running so far stable...
My motherboard is an IWILL KK266 (via kt133a).. very nice motherboard running on a not-so-compatible-with-it athlon xp 1600+ (1.4ghz)
The mobo problems with the cpu (processor) are limited to having to press 'reset' switch to boot (or else pc will power up but no boot).
Well my question is, is the agp 4x problem related to this msi video card in general, or to a faulty video card I *might* have (so I can exchange this one) or is it related to the motherboard???
Also, can someone explain to me the diferences between FX5600, FX5600XT AND FX5600 ULTRA?
Also, explain to me please the 'V,T,D,R' models differences too?
And Last but not least, what is the best driver for the fx5600xt and winxp??
I'm running msi latest (53.03, I installed it just to test em), I had nvidia's 52.16 prior to that.
    Thanks for all ur help

This can also be from a weak PSU, which would be even further taxed by adding the power hungry FX card.
    Might need a stronger PSU.

  • More pgms working with MSI TV-tuner card(s)

There is a couple more programs I found that work fairly nice with the older MSI TV-tuner card and the newer Master TV-tuner card.  They are:  Intervideo WINDVD Creator and Intervideo Home Theater.  Both have free 30 trial dowloads at http://www.intervideo.com.  If I use these two softwares and Ulead Video Studio 7, I can pretty much accomplish every thing I could ever ask for with my MSI TV-tuner card.   I just wish all the features were consolidated into one software.

Sure, here is my hardware specs:
    CPU #1
    Asus a7n8x  2.5GHZ with 512MG 400HZ mem
    MSI TV-tuner (master)
    Windows XP
    CPU #2
    Asus a7v 1.4GHZ with 650MG mem
    MSI TV-tuner (older)
    Windows XP
Note: I don't use the tuner and scheduler since I use S-video inputs from my Timewarner Pioneer HTDV setbox.  I did, for fun hook up a coax to my MSI TV-tuner card and scanned for ports using these newer softwares from Intervideo, but they did not correctly scan the digital and HDTV channels and only scanned the old analog channels.  I tried for fun to schedule some analog channels for record, but it did not work properly for me.  This is not a big deal to me since, the tuner and scheduler is not something that interest me, like most folks.  And since, I don't use the tuner and scheduler features, I immediately de-installed MSIPVS from both systems since the Intervideo products, especially the WINDVD creator does a much finer job then the old MSIPVS software that MSI keeps bundling with their TV-tuner card.  Also, I thought it was cool that the Intervideo WINDVD product allows a person to create huge jpg/gif/bmp slide shows on a DVD without the limitations (total 1900 or something close to this) on VCD's.  But, you have to create them using the mpeg2 format, by cliicking on the icon toward bottom and then using the author to create the vobs, etc from the mpeg2's.  Anyways, all other softwares, I have tried for this crapped out big time.  Sorry, I can't help the tuner/remote probs, but I think conio and some others have a better handle on it then me.

  • TV-chip on the MSI G4TI4200-TD card?

    Hi,
I´m thinking of buying a MSI G4TI4200-TD card, but first i want to know what kind of TV-out chip it uses (like cx25871 from Conexant, or SAA7104 from Philips)?
Is it the same card for the whole ti4200-series?
If you know please post it, or if you dont know but you have the card please check which chip it uses!
And if you have an oppinion of how the tv-out quality is with that specific card - please let me know!
    Thanx

I forgot to mention some details! the card should be...
    MSI G4 Ti4200-TD - AGP 4x - 128 MB DDR SDRAM
... and I allso would like to know if the card has both s-vhs, and composite output to the TV!
Sorry for my bad english - im swedish!

  • MSI Ti4200 128MB card availability

My son's friend is building a system very close to the same as mine and he has most of the parts now that he bought from NewEgg. The problem is that he wants to use the MSI Ti4200 video card that I have but he can't seem to locate one.
Has MSI stopped producing these video cards or is the demand so great that nobody has any? I haven't even been able to locate many of them from Price Watch or other search engines either.
Any ideas where he can get one would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mike

Here is one but is currently out of stock.  Here and Here is another and cheaper.  Im giving you all these sites just in case you dont feel like you can trust one or another.   Oh and i have to throw this in there a 4800 for only 20 bucks more  :D Here Good luck

  • CAn I use MSI Tv-Out card with my ASUS

Asus has no optional Tv-out card or sth like that.(I'm using the ob GF2MX)
Can I use the MSI tv-out card with my Asus a7n266-vm or it is just for MSI nforces.
Here in Turkey it is 17US$+VAT.Is is high or normal?

Hi...I did a little price search on internet before, for msi`s tv-out card...Its even selling with a price of 22$ in usa...So Turkey`s price is good....But I dont have any idea about it works in asus boards or not....But My friend bought the addon card for his msi board and It doesnt have any markings like it only works in msi boards n its manual....I think ıt should be work on other nforce boards....Just a reminder...He is unhappy with the tv-out adon card...because somehow detonators detect it but doesnt lets you play with tv-out settings in advance display settings section....You got tv-out screen , nothing more....No output on start-up the computer(Post section)....Only with windows....You need programs like tv tool for tweak its settings...

  • MSI TV tuner card and HDTV

I decided for grins to connect my Pioneer Voyager HDTV box from Timewarner Cable TV (AOL) into my MSI TV tuner card to see what kinda picture I would recieve.  Well, first I should say I am only allowed to use S-video and not the HDTV component cables (3), but it works.  Timewarner at this time only offers 10 HDTV channels and rest or either digital (DVD quality) or analog.  Some of the HDTV channels do not completely fill the screen and I have to adjust my screen to fit, but this is not to much effort.  Some HDTV channels fit the screen but are in wide screen only and not full screen, but this was still pretty cool.  I watched some of the wimbleton tennis in HDTV on my computer (awesome picture quality)
I am guessing that when HDTV becomes more popular and prices drop, that perhaps MSI might consider building a TV tuner card with HDTV outputs??

I have been seeing some amazing video using my msi TV-Tuner card (older card) and HDTV S-video inputs from my digital HDTV cable box.  I understand what SteveK is saying about how S-video is not capable of displaying 1080i, but dang it looks awesome using dscaler.  I did some searching and this guys says:
A better solution is S-video. Almost all players have s-video output. S-video looks much better than composite video, and only slightly inferior to component video. Hook an s-video cable from the player to the display (or to an A/V receiver that can switch s-video). The round, 4-pin connectors may be labelled Y/C, s-video, or S-VHS.
    Link found here:  http://www.home-theater-faq.com/whats_the_difference_between_composite_s-video_component_and_rgb_video.htm
Anyway I found some similar links that said about the same.  In any case, if anyone wants to play with the HDTV viewing using dscaler and an HDTV s-video connection, it might be of interest.

  • MSI TV Tuner card (stereo) workaround

    HI,
If you live in the US and own the MSI TV tuner card then you know it does not provide Stereo sound.  If you have a digital cable box from your cable tv provider you can recieve stereo sound while viewing and recording when using the MSI TV Tuner card, by doing the following:
    1.  do not use the patch cable for audio from your MSI TV tuner card to your audio sound card.
    2.  connect the audio from your digital cable box to your audio sound card.  My audio sound card is an audigy card.  You may have to spend a couple bucks at FRY's or Best Buy to get any small cable connectors (stereo din connector==>RCA and so forth).  Just look at your box and you should be able to figure out what you need.
    3.  Ofcourse, you will be using the remote for your digital box and leaving the MSI tuner card on channel 3.
But, I have been doing this all the time anyway
    4.  Connect either the composite or s-video cable (not coax) from your MSI TV-tuner card to your digital cable box.  Best to use s-video is possible.
    .

This card is suppose to be useful to play and RECORD tv with a cable entry and no other hardware.
I can bypass the card as well and put a tv and vcr beside my pc (lol).
What we really need is new driver so the card can work better at least with mono sound!
Good point! We can always buy a TV and a capture card. But that's not the product we need!
Why still there are no new drivers or software? Other companies already had their drivers signed by MS WHQL... And what happens here? Nothing! Almost every week I check for new drivers. Even the guys from DScaler have created better support for this card?!? And they don't get paid for that! What's wrong with MSI? Is this card doomed or something? Why should I trust MSI and buy another product of theirs? This just sucks.
?( BTW Have anyone experienced a lack of any sound on several channels in the frequency range between 160 MHz and 210 MHz?
Usually I recommend this card to anyone for its really good picture quality. But how can I explain to them it can't decode sound on the major TV programs in my country (in that specific freq. range).
I have much to say about this card (I have it for more than a half year) but I feel it would be never heard never discussed never answered as my e-mails to MSI.
I'm using a card with CX23881 chip in Bulgaria.
    Thank you.

  • Msi r6450 video card won't work

just received a new video card and for whatever reason, my pc won't see it.  it's the msi r6450 md1gd3 card.
I've got an older gateway desktop with 1pci express slot.
as near as I can tell, the mb is a c51pvgm.  it's a model 5220 gateway machine using an amd athlon x2 chip 3800+. it has nvidea onboard 6150le processor.  using winxp sp2.
bios is set to recognize the pciexpress slot first.  fan comes on within the card but it is not being recognized in the device manager.
    thoughts?
    Thanks

We can't support Gateway machines but just MSI stuff. Make sure it is not PCI-E 1.x as a six series Radeon and later PCI-E 2.1 and above card wouldn't work then. To be sure the vga is working test it in another machine

  • MSI Dual-Net Card and Communications Slot

    Hey all,
ok, i want the MSI Dual-Net Card...i have HEARD that you need the MSI Communications Slot for it to work...is that true???
because there is absolutly NO MENTION of this on either the website or even in the manual for the card...
the manual even shows a picture of the card being installed into a NORMAL PCI slot...

I cant even use "Find device". I'm trying to connect to a cellphone which has bluetooth ( Ericsson k700i ).
yep, thats wat i have...and its the BEST Bluetooth software i've used...we have 3 Bluetooth USB Dongles in my house, and the software for them all (compared to this) is...well, just crap...
did u plug in the USB header??? for the bluetooth to work, it has to be connected to a USB header on the motherboard...
and i assume you've checked device manager to make sure the driver is installed...if not, do it...
BTW, i know wat was wrong with my Wireless Network...i had the Wireless Antenna and Bluetooth Antenna plugged into the wrong places      now my wireless has full strength!

  • MSI NX6600 AGP Card & MSI 7008, VIA PT880 Motherboard Compatible?

    Hello all!
    Need a little help today.
I have a MSI NX6600 AGP Card & MSI 7008, VIA PT880 Motherboard that are giving me some headaches. If I try any NVIDIA driver above version 71.25 the graphics (2d and 3d) are very badly distorted. The desktop screen is unreadable and any software I try to run looks warped and garbled. I am using an Antec case with a 350w Antec PSU. Both the motherboard and video card are from MSI. This is the second video card I try, I RMA'd the first one. If I use an older AGP card (Ti4200) all graphics display perfectly. Is there something I can do to fix the problem? Is there a compatibility problem between the VIA chip and the NVIDIA 6600 chip?
I'd appreciate a push in the right direction!
    Thanks!

    Hi!
There seems to be some problems with certain setups, see: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=3612
I had these 2d-issues with 6600GT and RMA'd the card, hope I'll get newer revision... none of the fixes helped.

  • MSI Lighning 7970 card 2560x1440 problem (with DELL U2711)

Hello. I have trouble with my display and 2xMSI 7970 Lighning graphic cards. Could someone help me?
    Configuration:
Core i7 2600K running on gigabyte P8Z68-V motherboard with J.3603 BIOS
2 MSI Lighning 7970 cards without crossfire connector inserted (I don’t need crossfire for gaming – just multimonitor configuration for graphics).
The BIOSes of the cads are the same-from-the-box and was identified like MSI.HD7970.3072.120411.rom in the GPU-Z database.
The numbers in the GPU-Z’s “BIOS Version” is 015.013.000.010.000000 (113-AD40900-X01)
The BIOS numbers in the MSI Live Update  is TV278MS.102
And the serial numbers from the stickers of the card’s boxes are:
    602-V278-02SB1204058976 and 602-V278-02SB1205129844
All stuff running on Win8.1x64 system.
I have 3 displays: 2 of them are Samsung 245T running 1920x1200 and the last one (the new one) is DELL U2711 (witch is capable for running 2560x1440 resolution).
    Now, THE PROBLEM.
When I running 2-displays configuration (2xSamsung 245T connected via DVI) there are no any problems at all: all works fine. The problem with the 3d display and it’s 2560x1440 resolution. I tried different cables and both cards, but display couldn’t run correctly.
    1)   It is running fine but ONLY 1920x1080 resolution when connected via DVI. There is no 2560x1440 settings at all in windows system then. I tried both cards and both DVI-ports, also I tried different DVI cables. No matter. It’s only 1920x1080. The drivers for the display panel was installed from the dell’s official site and the’re latest (as I could see..)
    2)   When I tried to connect the display via DisplayPort cable to my cards (no matter which of them or which of 4 display port’s connector on each card) it COULD RUN AT ALL. Usually the display showing up correctly with the right resolution (2560) but the screen is blank (black). After some time monitor goes to the suspend mode.
From time to time display could shows some desktop with terrible quality (I get the photos of it) for 2-3 second and then it’s blank again.
Also when connected I get the error “DisplayPort Lower setting applied” from time to time.
    3) I have tried some DVI-Displayport adapters (witch was in the box with the MSI cards) and the result is the same as in 1) - only 1920x1080 resolution...
The display is fine and it works perfectly on another system (without MSI cards). What’s the problem? Should I upgrade BIOS or something to work in 2560x1440? Thank you.

the poor quality of the screen (when it shows up for 1-3 seconds with DisplayPort connection)

  • MSI R5450 Graphics card

I installed an MSI R5450 video card on a new HP desktop with Windows 7(64-bit) and connected to a new Samsung BluRay DVD with an HDMI cable.  The computer screen is duplicated on the Samsung Plasma TV beautifully, but there is no audio.  I have gone to the MSI site and downloaded the drivers  folder
ATI_8.723_win7_visa and then went to the subfolders
      Packages
          Drivers
              WDM
                 HDMI
WIN764a and ran the  AtiHDAud installer package - the installation package
ran to completion, but I still have no audio.
