Concert Start Up

When loading a concert upon start up lots of the instrument settings are missing/not assigned correctly.
I saved the concert before shutdown with all the sliders and knobs assigned correctly and working.
Any help on this one
Many Thanks
Steve

Hi
If you are running Lion OS, the <User> (Home) folder where MS 2.1.3 stores these files is hidden by default.
The easiest way to get there is using the Finder;Go menu: Hold down Option (Alt) and the Library will show up in the Go Menu.
Once you have the User Library window open, drag it to the Sidebar.
(There are also ways of 'un-hiding' the <User> Library via Terminal etc)
The Mainstage files are in
<User> Library:Application Support:Logic.

  • How do I stop Safari from automatically loading a URL when I start typing the first few letters in the URL/search bar?

My question concerns a bug (or feature, I'm not sure which) that I've been seeing for some time on my Safari installations.
I'm running Lion (the latest patched version) with Safari (ditto). I've noticed that every so often, if I open a new tab and start typing something in the search/URL bar, Safari will not only suggest something based on my history, but will actually begin loading the page as though I had accepted that suggestion.
For example, today, I typed the letter "b" in the search/URL bar, paused for a few seconds while I was thinking of what to type next, and Safari went ahead and loaded "bugzilla.gnome.org" based on that being the last URL starting with "b" that I happened to have gone to. And the same thing has happened to me on earlier occasions with different web sites. In other words, it's not merely giving me a suggestion, it then proceeds as though I had accepted that suggestion. Sometimes it might happen to be right, but it's the principle of the thing.
Needless to say, I hadn't inadvertently bumped the Enter key.
Of course, ordinarily, Safari will just offer a list of suggestions based on my bookmarks and browsing history, maybe filling out the URL bar with the topmost suggestion (while giving me the option of overtyping it if I wish). And, of course, this happens without fail if I've just had Safari preempt me by loading a page and am trying to find out why. Like the best Heisenbugs, this "feature" goes away as soon as I make a concerted attempt to study it.
I have completely disabled AutoFill in the Preferences dialog. I would clear the cache and history, except that I kind of resent having to do that every time (or turn on private browsing, possibly another option) just to stop the computer from executing an instruction that I haven't even finished giving it yet (and in many cases intend to change).
Has anyone else seen or been able to disable this feature?

  • How to set up Multiple Playback tracks for a "Set" or "Concert"?

Hey Gang...so I'm venturing into MS2(2.2.1) now and have a feeling I just need some help understanding the building blocks.  Here is what I'm trying to do:
I want to set up a concert for solo gigs where I basically will perform saxophone along with backing tracks (audio).  On some tunes I use an EWI, and on others I use different saxes (EQed diff, with diff EFX, so on).  SO, I want to create "patches" for each song, and have that "patch" contain the midi sound (for EWI) or settings for the diff saxes.
Here is the important part:  I also need each individual "patch" to playback a different back-track.
I have started all this with the tune "Summer Madness", and here is the problem:  When I switch to a new "patch", I still get Summer Madness.  If I load a different BT into playback, that track is then "universal" through ALL "patches".  It must be something simple, but what am I missing?  Do I have to create multiple channel strips with the playback plugin loaded (seems awefully designed, and a waste of resources?) and assign DIFFERENT controller buttons (or whatever) to playback different tracks? (again, aweful, and a complete waste of midi controller real estate).
If I have explained all that poorly, my appologies.  I just am hoping MS2 has a way of "auto-loading" a new BT everytime I switch to a new "patch".  I cannot seem to figure this one out.  Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

    Hi
Depending on your needs, you may find that Set level offers the best approach:
Within a Set you have the Playbacks (Set Level, so they work for the entire set) with individual patches in the set "live" for the EWI etc as needed.
You need only map one set of controls for all the Playbacks since only 1 set can run at a time.

  • How to find "My Templates" folder in the hard drive?  Or "Mainstage Concerts" folder, "Mainstage Layouts" folder

So far I have saved quite a few concerts as templates, but now I want to delete some of the older ones, so they stop showing up teach time I want to start a new concert from a template. I have been looking for the folder in library, application support, logic, also in the mainstage app icon's package contents, but I can't find how to delete those saved templates, and exported layouts. Please advise me on this.

Did you change status from test to active in UR before downloading? If not you can change the downloaded items in the manage repository menu.
Assuming the items you did download were not already installed on your client with TI it should work.

  • I want to record a concert with my iPod touch

    Hi!
I've got one iPod touch 4G with 8GB and I'm going to a concert on December and I wanted to record the audio of it with some quality, at least medium quality.
Do you know any application that I can use for it? Or should I record it with an other device?

You might want to check here, to start off:
    http://forums.ilounge.com/misc-gear/241804-recording-concerts.html
There's even an app, though you'd best advised to upgrade your mike:
    http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/concert-recorder-cd-quality/id338045354?mt=8
So much depends on your criteria for a tolerable recording; I don't know what "medium" quality is. Realize, however, that the best live recordings are taken off the sound board, or were specifically mixed for a live concert. Otherwise, there's going to be a problematic level of ambient noise.
You might find it more instructive to record live gigs at clubs as a test before you do the final recording in December.

  • Importing Audio from a DVD Concert

I want to import the audio from a DVD concet into iTunes.
I've tried MactheRipper and MAC3dec to do the conversion but the main concert file was 1 hour and 15 minutes long and it only imported the intro which lasted about 45 seconds.
What I'd really like to do is import the entire concert then cut it up into songs to import into iTunes.
    So my questions are:
    1. How do start with a 1.3 hour audio file on DVD and end up with 16 song files in my iTunes library?
    2. Is it possible to do this with AudioHijack or a similar program?

The software is capable of extracting audio only at the chapter level. Using a DVD I mastered myself, I can use the Mode button, then select Title - Chapter Extraction, click the D button, and then the Streams button becomes active. Clicking that opens a drawer where all the various audio tracks are available, and they can be extracted one at a time using the SChpt and EChpt drop-down lists.
Again, please be sure that whatever you're doing with a DVD is legal in your own case. I am not suggesting that you use any particular software for any particular purpose, but just explaining how to navigate through a confusing interface in a program you already seem to have.
EDIT: I've read through your posts again, and you mentioned that you bought the DVD. Of course I can't be sure about this, but if it's a commercial DVD, it is most likely encrypted. In that case, you really must be sure that you have the right to extract audio tracks from the disc (or even to use the software in question)--even though you're not "copying" the disc by working only with the audio portion, it may be the case that even the audio on the disc is protected in some way by copyright. So, I can't emphasize enough that I in no way am encouraging you to do anything outside the scope of fair and legitimate use of your DVD product.

  • Why does mainstage load every instrument for an entire concert at once?

I have recently finished a UK tour using Mainstage at the centre of my keyboard rig and while I got through without any hitches, I had 30 songs to program in the run-up to the tour and almost all of them involved strings in some form or other (I use Omnisphere for this) - I ended up not being able to store them all in one master song list concert because the massive amount of memory needed by having 30 instances of Omnisphere meant that it would crash straight away. I got around it by splitting the list into two concerts but it was frustrating and slowed down the process of building sets for each gig while on tour. Also, this was a fairly simple tour to program for - if I did something else which was more intensive, I've no idea what I'd do!
I know that in the West End they use Forte on their keys setups, and I am starting to see why....however, I love the interface of Mainstage (and the fact you can use it on a Mac!) and wish that Apple would address this issue asap! A setting that allowed you to choose whether to load the entire concert into memory on startup (a definite plus given the near-instantaneous patch change times if your Mac can handle it) or just to load one patch at a time would be great.
Has anyone else found this to be a problem, and come up with any different workarounds? Is there anyone from Apple that checks these forums who could comment?
    Thanks
    Steve

Thanks for the replies guys - seems this one is a bit of a contentious issue! In hindsight I could have used the string sounds at a higher level, although with most of the songs there were tweaks made to the patch because I was blending the Omnisphere with a rack Motif ES module in varying degrees as the song required. I will investigate aliases also - I was unaware of these!
But I still stand by my original point, because it limits the possibilities of using Mainstage as a database of songs e.g. for a job where you have a lot of songs in the repertoire and will be creating a different set from these for most gigs. As I mentioned, it became impossible to open the master song list and transfer songs one by one to another Concert.
And with the comment about 64 bit making the problem disappear....well, yes but that seems a bit ridiculous that all the powerful Macs around at the moment (mine being a top-spec late 2009 15" MacBook Pro) will have to 'lump it' with 'only' the 4GB available to them!! It should be plenty equipped to handle what I throw at it, and in the case that there are a lot of memory (or CPU) intensive plugins there should be the choice of whether to have the entire concert / set / song loaded into memory on startup.
Again, I'd refer back to Brainspawn Forte, which seems like 'the' choice for most keyboard players and show programmers. There is minimal load lag, even when loading up very complex patches that in Mainstage's current form would have it eating up resources and crashing! I'm going to reluctantly investigate using Forte within Boot Camp, but still hoping that eventually Mainstage will mature into an even more flexible and intuitive program for live work - it has a great interface!

  • MainStage 2 can't open MainStage 1 concert file

    Hi,
After upgrade logic pro to the newest version. I can't us MainStage 2 to open my old concert file from MainStage 1.
The application sign me the error message below:
'The document "xxx" could not be opened. The file isn't in the correct format. Please restore it from a backup.'
I got lots of very important concert files need to be used. Please give me some advice to deal with it.
    Thanks,
    Nicholas Chang

Well, I updated to LR 1.4 and it started up but none of my pictures showed up, all had "?" marks on the upper right hand corner. The path to the pictures were not the same as before I had this problem.
When I closed out of the program and tried to reopen the program, it did the same thing as before - it stopped before asking me to backup and hangs.
    Help!!!!

  • Mainstage 2.1 - EXS sound stop when playback loop start

    Hi,
i use with MacBookPro 4(Go) and audio Kontrol (Native instrument)
i have some concert with exs24 sound violin , when i play a note and start a loop in Playback after, the violin sound stop!
    do you have an issu?
    Thanks

Sure, a quick reply: create a multi audio track song in Logic using markers. Bounce this to AIFF files - one for each instrument say.
Using the MS multi track mixer template, drag the bounced files into playback instances and set the synch option to "wait for marker"
Start MS playback then use the jump back/forth between markers buttons to do that. MS should continue playing untill it reaches the end of the section, then jump. It does but the results are unpredictable. Mostly I get white noise. This used to work under 2.1
This is very well documented in another post and YT vid which I will try to find and append later today.

  • MainStage 2.1.3 and it starts to freeze 20 min. into set. NOT GOOD ON STAGE! What up?

I'm using Mainstage 2.1.3 and it starts to freeze with the spinning beach ball around 20 min. into set. NOT GOOD ON STAGE! What up?

I keep chronological versions of my Concerts if I do any modifications, and multiple versions had the same problem: the loading bar (which starts with Feedback Control, then plug-ins) would freeze immediately; no beach ball, no nothing. I would have to force quit. I could load a blank template and that would work. Nothing had changed on my system, no new software, no new plug-ins. And, yes, I send reports of any major bugs to Apple.
The reason I was so frustrated this time was that I had been let down by my long-time relationship too many times in the past. I went so far as to buy a fast dedicated system for live performance only. Great cables, great I/O, great peripherals. But it has been like a weird relationship: one where your partner is the best in the world for the longest time and all is carefree bliss. Then, out of the blue, they do something gut wrenchingly bad. So, you think it must be your fault and you work on stuff. Maybe get some counseling, go to the gym, get some new clothes. A hairstyle. A faster car. Things are wonderful again! The relationship is working! Then, !wham! Out of the blue, you're let down again. Well, I am now at the point I am going to try some other relationships. Maybe they won't be smart or as pretty, but I need stability. If MS straightens up and I hear from others that she has changed and seems stable and predictable, I just may give her another try. Because deep down, I really do love her.

This Question has come up before, but I think the OP was misunderstood. http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/194594-can-an-excel-spreadsheet-be-turned-into-a-fillable-form...I have a group of rather large spread sheets each represents an inventory for a "service"I can use the Form command on the Ribbon to get an Entry form for that flat Database no problem; but that form is absurdly long, and cumbersome. And while I could duplicate the form by hand it seems a waste when Excel can create the form in about a second. What I really need to be able to do is save, and edit; Reorganize the form. So my group can use it for Data Entry, and print copies of the form for the service audit. Your help is hugely appreciated. Tom.

  • Adding stills to a concert and lot loosing the sync

Hi all, Thanks for your attention to my dilemma. I have finished editing a school concert of my daughter singing. Now that I'm done, she has given me some stills, which I've added to iPhoto. She would like them added to the concert video. How do I de-link the audio and video of the concert, add stills in various places and not loose the synchronization between the audio and video? I've seen that I can extract the audio from the video, but I can't figure out how to insert the stills without "pushing" the video and loosing my sync. I'm sure it can be done. I just someone to point me in the proper direction.
    cheers,
    Jack

The problem here is that you have a finite length of audio which, to keep in synch, has to match visuals of the same duration.
One thing you can do to extract the audio so that you have the soundtrack in a separate timeline. Now decide for how long you want each photo to appear. Let's call it 5 seconds. Edit out 5 seconds of one of the clips of the video and add the photo. hat will retain the total length of video and keep you in synch.
Alternatively, have you considered having the photos appear in a corner of the screen while the video is playing, in other words: picture within picture. This can be done using Quicktime, but is a bit fiddly although worth the effort.
When editing the video of my younger son's wedding (the part where his older brother gives the infamous Best Man Speech), I managed to insert old photos of incidents referred to in his speech as he was making it, to the intended embarrassment of all concerned!
Here is how to do it:
Organize the video clips and/or stills that you want to superimpose on to your main video clip, by having these in separate, individual iMovie projects (no matter how small). It helps if these are in the exact length/time you want later.
Now start with the clip in your iMovie project on to which you want to superimpose one of more smaller video clips or stills. Lets call it Main Clip. Export this (share) to Quicktime Pro in DV (full quality). make sure it has the same aspect as before (Quicktime tends to default to 4:3. If you want 16:9, read on).
In Quicktime, with this project open, select File ~ Open File. Select the iMovie file (in your movies folder) of the first clip/still you want superimposed. This will open in its own QT window. Select Edit ~ copy. If it is a movie clip then select all ~ copy (or you will only get one frame!). Switch back to the Main Clip window, and click in the scroll bar where you want the extra clip/still to appear. Choose Edit ~ Add to Movie.
You can repeat this as many times as you like, if you want to build a 'Video Wall', i.e. have several superimposed clips/stills on the same Main Clip.
Do not worry that the new clip overlaps or covers up the Main Clip, at this stage.
Choose Window ~ Show Movie Properties. The Properties Dialogue appears.
You will see a list of video (and audio) tracks. Track one will be the Main Clip, track 2 your new added (superimposed) clip. Click track 2, then click visual settings. From the Scaled Size pop-op menu, choose percent. Then type 50 into the first box. If Preserve Aspect Ratio is turned on you won't need to type 50 into the second box. You have made the pasted footage appear at one quarter its original size. The inset is now hugging the top-left corner of the Main Clip. If you want, you can type numbers into the Offset Boxes to shove it away from that corner (there are 72 pixels to the inch).
If your original Main Clip was required in 16:9, unclick (de-select) Preserve Aspect Ratio, and type in the relevant numbers in the two boxes, in Video Track 1.
    PAL (for Europe):
    Standard DV (4:3) 788 x 576
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 1050 x 576
    NTSC (for the USA):
    Standard DV (4:3) 720 x 528
    DV Widescreen (16:9) 874 x 480
This will not affect video track 2, but if that is also wanted in 16:9 repeat for that track.
You can superimpose, 3, 4, or more such 'overlaps' on the same clip, and spend a happy afternoon tapping away for each track in the Offset Boxes until you have got them all in the right place! You can even overlap them, if you can remember (or note down - hire a secretary to take notes) which track you want on top etc.
Save the completed QT file. Import the completed file into a new iMovie project. Import this into the original iMovie project, substituting the old clip you copied to QT as Main Clip for the new fancy clip you have made.
A tutorial on this subject is available here:

  • Freeze from Song Start instead of Meas 0?

I recorded a concert into Logic, 38 channels, 24 bit, 44.1k. I'm breaking the individual songs out that I want to fix & mix. I'm editing out the regions of each song, then turning those regions into optimized audio files to make it more manageable. We'll open the mixes in another song file, bridge them with applause, and have a nice tidy concert mix.
I want to freeze tracks as I fix them, for less CPU overhead. I want to keep the individual songs with the optimized audio files in their original position in the timeline, so I can reopen the original files and drop them in at their original record position if I mess up the optimized audio file. I've reset the start and end markers with a couple of extra measures (@ 30bpm) before and after the audio.
My problem is that when I freeze a file, it freezes from measure 0, instead of the new song start position. Consequently, it takes a long time to freeze files, and they are huge. As an example, the first song actually started at measure 250 (it was a long pre-show), and even though the lead vocal file is only 50 MB, the freeze file for it is over 400 MB and takes a very long time to create.
How do I get "freeze" to start freezing from measure 249, instead of measure 0?
If that's not an option, is there one that doesn't require relocating my regions to measure 2?
    TIA.

I've done a very poor job of describing what I've done. I'll try to clarify.
I have created a new .lso of each song, drawn from the original .lso of the concert. I've even gone to the effort of copying just the portions of the audio files that are in that song (optimizing), so I have a much smaller set of the appropriate audio tracks/files that contain just the audio from that song in each .lso.
I want the audio files of each .lso to remain at their original record position, to facilitate replacing them with originals if they get messed up in editing.
The song "start" has been moved to the beginning of the the files in the timeline for each .lso. The song end has been moved to the end of each, making each new .lso about 4 minutes long, although the start marker for each is at measure 250+
The problem is that "freeze" starts at measure 0, regardless of where the song start marker is placed. True, it stops where the "song end" marker is, but the freeze files are huge in comparison to the original file.
Any way to get freeze to start at the song start marker on the .lso's, instead of at measure 0?
