Concurrent Acrobat X Standard and Pro?

Most of our employes run Acrobat X Standard, and a few require Acrobat X Pro.  We already own all of the Standard and Pro licenses that we need.  We have a Windows 2008 Terminal Server x64 and would like to install both Standard and Pro side by side.
We tested on a workstation, designating different install paths for Standard and Pro (and otherwise default settings),  Pro over-wrote Standard.  In the reverse order of installing, Standard won't over-write Pro.  Either way, we couldn't get both running.
What can we do to support concurrent versions?
Thanks,
DSHeist

  • Acrobat 8 Standard and Acrobat X Pro unable to install

    Hello,
I have purchased Acrobat 8 Standard and Acrobat X Pro, and have both serial numbers.
I am unable to install either in my new computer.
I do not have a disc for Acorbat 8, but do have one for Acrobat X Pro.
I have tried downloading from Download and Installation Help.  I received the following error message:  "Setup has detected that you already have a more functional product installed.  Setup will now terminate."
    I have uninstalled and re-installed 8.
I have used the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner.
    Nothing has worked so far.
I received an email from Adobe Help & Support. I replied in order to set up an appointment, but never received a response.
It was suggested in one of the last communications in another forum, that I post a new discussion in the Acrobat Installation & Update Issues forum.
    Please help.

    Hi Elizabeth ,
It is not recommended to download and run two Acrobat versions on the same machine as it can lead to some conflicts between the two and as well as with the activation server .
Try and use single software on one machine .
Please use the Adobe Cleaner tool to uninstall the software .Here is the link for the same .
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Once uninstalled ,try downloading the software once again and see if that works for you .Make sure you disable all the third party software while the installation is in progress to avoid any interruption.
Or you could refer the following to download Acrobat X Pro .Acrobat 8 standard ,as it is an older version would not be available now .
You could try and download Acrobat X referring the following KB document and serialize by typing the serial number mentioned on the disk .

  • Adobe Reader 8 compatible with Acrobat Standard and Pro 7?

Our organization has Adobe Reader 7 deployed to all users. Some users also have Acrobat Standard 7 or Acrobat Pro 7. We want to upgrade all users to Adobe Reader 8 (or maybe 9) but do not want to upgrade Standard and Pro users yet.
I have not been able to find any information about compatibility issues with Reader 8 and older versions of Acrobat, but last time we did an upgrade in similar fashion we experienced issues. Any insight?

Thanks for the reply. I stumbled across something today after posting. I had already known that If the ARX user also had one of the other products (AAXS or AAXP), then they would get the dialog box. Here is what I just figured out: if the user uninstalled ARX and re-installed (still having both ARX and AAXS or AAXP in the end) then they no longer get the dialog box. It seems like perhaps its an issue the AAXP and AAXS are overwriting something in the registry.

  • Differences Between Acrobat XI Standard and Acrobat XI Pro PDF File Reduction Capabilities

Hi all, I am looking into purchasing Acrobat XI but not sure which version I should get. I have worked with Acrobat 8 Standard and remembered that I cannot reduce PDF size by clicking Reduce File Size under Document if the PDF contains images so I am looking to upgrade. I have tried Acrobat XI Pro Trial version and messed around with Save As Other >> Reduced File PDF to reduce my PDF files and that seemed to work well. I've read that in Acrobat XI Standard, one can reduce PDF files by using Save As >> Reduce File and the resulting PDF file will be similar in size to the PDF file that had been reduced by the PRO version. Can someone please confirm this, thanks in advance.

    Hi sraja,
Yes, that option is available in both the Acrobat Pro and Standard versions, and the results will be similar, if not the same. Acrobat Pro offers additional optimizing capability, as described here: Acrobat Help | Optimizing PDFs.
    I hope that helps!
    Best,
    Sara

  • Standard and Pro versions compatible with Windows 7

    Hello
I am looking for a list of Adobe Acrobat Standard and Adobe Acrobat Pro that are compatible with Windows 7. We are upgrading over 1000 computers to Windows 7 and we have many different versions of Adobe Acrobat writer Stndard and Pro.
    Thanks

There are also issues with 32 vs 64-bit systems. The latter requires updating your version in general. Generally the initial releases have not worked in the 54-bit environment. There are many driver issues with 64-bit systems and probably should look carefully if 64-bits are needed. The 64-bit system is useful if you are computationally focused, but may not be much of an advantage in standard office environments. Just be careful. If you are installing OFFICE 2010, then you need AAX for PDF Maker compatibility -- prior versions of Acrobat only allow printing from the OFFICE 2010 suite. Some folks have been successful with AA8 on 32-bit Win7 (I have only seen 1 post that would suggest success with 64-bit Win7). Prior versions of Acrobat can be made to work on 32-bit Win7 systems, but require work arounds (i.e., the AcroTray tool that automates the conversion to PDF process fails in Win7). The 64-bit system will probably fail for most of the earlier versions in such cases.
Realize that you may have to deal with Win8 shortly that has it's own issues.

  • Using SMS to install Acrobat 7 Standard and 7.0.5 - 7.0.8 patches

I am having problems with a package I created to install Acrobat 7 Standard and all it's updates. I this package I have created many programs. The first four programs are used to uninstall the previous version - 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.0.3 and 6.0.4. I used the command lines I got from the PDF document: "Install and remove Acrobat products using the command line (6.x on Windows)". All four programs went through successfully.
The next program in this package is the one that installs Acrobat 7 Standard. I used InstallShield Tuner 7.0 to customize the Acrobat settings when installed. I used the command line for this program that was listed the PDF: "User Document: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 for Microsoft Systems Management Server". This program installed without a problem.
The problem comes when the next program attempts to start. This is the program that installs the 7.0.5 update patch for Acrobat 7.0.0. At this point, this is where the package bombs. I have used the command lines provided in the PDF document: "Install and remove Acrobat products using the command line (7.0 on Windows)". I extracted the files from the .exe file of the patch and copied them to the source directory with all the other installation files for Acrobat 7 Standard.
Not sure what to do at this point. Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me into the right direction!

    Glenn,
I do not use any of the Acrobat instructions on deleting previous versions. I wrote a inf file from within MS Installer that removes all the Registry settings that the original installation of Acrobat 5 and 6 create. I also remove any files that remain on the PC. One reboot is needed and then a manual removal of the one or two files that stay in the ActiveX directory and the main Acrobat directory (used by windows until a reboot is performed). I then was successful in creating a package that delivers Acrobat 7 Pro with the updates to 7.05 and 7.08 by chaining them from within the setup ini file. I am now trying the same thing with Acrobat 7 standard but am having several separate issues.
Good luck because I hope one day Adobe/Acrobat are replaced with another OEM that listens to it customers and will not have as big of Chat room as they have with so many open issues and continuous problems with ever release.

  • Can I upgrade from Acrobat XI Standard to Pro?

Can I upgrade from Acrobat XI Standard to Pro?

As I indicated, the store gives an upgrade from Std to Pro, though I think the price is not appropriate. If you go to the basic page for Acrobat, they are no pushing the subscription version. If you do to the buying guide you get the regular version option (http://www.adobe.com/content/dotcom/en/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide.html). The upgrade is $199, which I think is crazy. Something like $70 is more appropriate, the difference in cost between Std and Pro upgrades, or at least $150 for the difference of the full products. If the Std had been an upgrade, the cost of a full upgrade is not reasonable. Anyway, a screen capture of the cost is below:
So apparently the guys on the chat have no clue what they are talking about. However, that does not surprise me. What bothers me is some of the unreasonable pricing as I see it in the store.

  • Acrobat 9 Reader and Pro extremely slow when loading.

Machine: Dell Precision T3500 with an Quad Core Intel® Xeon® W3540 2.93GHz, 8M L3, 4.8GT/s Turbo processor with Windows XP Pro 32-bit and 4GB RAM NECC 1066Mhz installed.
When installing, uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling Acrobat 9 Reader and Pro, or Acrobat 9.2 Reader and Pro, and upon opening a PDF double-clicked on opens Acrobat as expected but it would take an incredibly long time to open the PDF. Opening the application and then going to File, Open also recreates the effect. When the PDF opens, you can see vector drawings appear line by line as if running on a really old machine like a Pentium II and having the computer pause like as if it has frozen up until after waiting a minute or two. During that time, Windows XP is unresponsive until after waiting for the PDF file to load. Diffferent varieties of PDF with simple one-page text to complex PDF's with scanned, vector and hundreds of pages of text has both recreated the frozen in time effect. And when scrolling to different pages within a PDF, the scrolling is choppy, jerky, and at times, pauses to have drawings to appear.
In the past, applications behaving erratically in this fashion was traced down to the software incompatible with HyperThreading and multiple processors. Does anyone know if this might be the case with Xeon processor listed above or similar hardware? Has anyone else experience this? Information about a possible issue mentioned above after searching produced no hits both at Adobe or out there.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your input.
Installing only one or the other (Reader vs Pro and either 9 or 9.2) produced no improvement and the same delay.
Disabling malware applications and then uninstalling them one at a time also produced no improvement.
Disabling the HyperThreading feature within the BIOS/CMOS did not help.
The only workaround so far is to launch Adobe Reader or Pro first, go into Task Manager and then "Set Affinity..." and have only one check mark on any CPU from CPU 0 through CPU 7. Then either drag the PDF into the Adobe Reader or Pro, or go to File and then Open to load the PDF. This process was the only way so far to "normally" open and immediately view and scroll the PDF regardless of complexity without delays or freezes.
Has anyone else been able to reproduce the problem and test the workaround on similar hardware?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Acrobat 8 Standard and Photoshop Elements

I need to download my Acrobat 8 Standard and Photoshop Elements on my new computer. Adobe downloads will not let me do this and tech support says they cannot help because of the age of the products?

You needed to keep them when you first downloaded. It's vital to keep downloads you pay for, and to burn them to CD so you don't lose them if your disk fails. It is likely to be too late to get these now, but let's see if someone has any info that might help. Good luck!
