Concurrent users on Actiontec MI424WR

I have an Actiontec MI424WR (Rev A) router and I can only get 10 connections to it.  I see an option in the Advanced -> System Settings to configure number of concurrent users.  It is a drop-down box that only allows a maximum of 10.  Am I missing something?  I can't believe that I'm being limited to 10 connections.
Thanks in advance, Ron

I think the gentleman was trying to explain an actual problem that I am also having. That is, only 11 concurrent devices can be connected to the router (not the GUI or man-machine interface, the router connections). It is being limited somewhere and whenever I try to connect a 12th device, it either fails, or sometimes knocks something else off and it gets connected.
I am disabled and aside from Netflix Devices, Chromecast, the Samsung Smart TV, my Router Extender, I need several computers so that I don't need roller skates to answer the phones and get information from a computer. It helps me to have several networked. It would help me immensely if I could connect more than 11 devices to my router. This includes both hard and wireless connections - 11 total.
Thanks for any help you can provide!
Kind regards,
Paul
P.S. Let me add that you can have probably 254 devices in the device list, but only 11 active and with assigned IP addresses. Maybe a DHCP limitation on number of active devices? I don't have 11 kids playing WOW, I promise. I just need to have the devices sitting there and available to me. I live alone! Thanks!

  • Problems with FIOS with ActionTec MI424WR

I have had FIOS for a couple of months and am having major problems with the internet and the actiontec MI424WR Router:
I cannot get port forwarding to work.  I have setup several previous routers to do port forwarding to my Windows web server, never had a problem.  Nothing I try on the Actiontec works, all incoming requests are rejected.  Checked Dns, server, everything.
Wireless works well at first, then slowlly degrades until after a week or so the signal is so weak that wifi traffic slows to a crawl.  Turning off the router and turning it back on fixes this problem.
Wired Ethernet traffic becomes flaky.  browsing works for a while, then gets flaky, IE and chrome both report that they can't reach web sites, but other apps can still get to internet.  closing browser does not fix issue, rebooting machine does.
This is the most problematic router I have ever seen.
Is there a different brand of router from one of the more respected router compnaies, like Dlink, linksys, or netgear?

Port forwarding is a little odd the way it's setup.  Took me a couple of days to work it and then it was only by looking at one of the canned protocolsand then emulating it for what I wanted that I made it work.
For example, if you go into port forwarding and select New Entry and under Protocol select FTP it will display the canned setting for port forwarding to an internal FTP server, all you need to do is add the internal IP address of the local host that has the server.  The confusing thing is that what you see for FTP is TCPany -> 21 whereas I expected it to be TCP21 -> 21.  Means that when you set up your forwarding you typically would be selecting protocol User defined and under that protocol TCP (or whichever you want) the leave source port at ANY and change destination port to Single or Range and enter the value.  Then save it
Your other questions appear to say that your router maybe not working correctly.

  • Actiontec MI424WR Gen2 router (revision E) firmware bug

I just received a new Actiontec MI424WR Gen2 (revision E) router.  It works fine, but I encountered a software bug when editing Parental Controls.
If you remove a website address from a rule, it deletes it from website list, but it also adds it to keyword list.  If you save the rule and then try to edit it to remove the keywords, the keywords are not deleted.  The firmware version is 20.8.0
If there is newer firmware which addresses it, I cannot find it, as this model router is not listed on the
    firmware download page http://www2.verizon.net/micro/fios_router_update/

You were told correctly. Even though the Wireless G does not support the 35/35. Rev. E is is what most everyone is getting. But I have heard of some Rev. F going out at times. I guess it depends on availability, when the Rev. E runs out of production, perhaps when there is no more Rev. E in stock. I know even on a wired connection the Rev. C is prone to locking up when playing multi user games such as X Box. Now if you were having problems with the X Box App for FiOS TV, I would demand a new one. Even Gen 2 Rev. E is better than C. Will not help wireless much. If you have your router plugged into the Rev. C, I would say the Rev. C should go. Option I used. I use the Hawking HWABN1, but there are cheaper ones available.
I would say that Rev C is very old, and you should qualify for a newer version, since it is locking up intermittantly. Rev. C will probably be told to send to the recyle bin.

and I tried valiently for months to get it replaced with a Rev F (or is it Rev G - I forget)  wireless N router.  I was even told that I would get a new Wireless N router when I upgraded my service to 35/35 from 15/5. I even had a date/time set for a tech to do the install of the new router.
But in the end Verizon would not do it, and told me that the Wireless N models are only for business accounts and only for the 125/50 service.
As a result of this I bought a separate N router which I have set up as an N access point.  This works OK but is an annoying (and costly) alternative to what could have been a clean solution.
I'd rate this level of customer service as poor.

  • Shutting off Power to Actiontec MI424wr each night.

Does the Actiontec MI424wr lose settings if shut off at night. By settings, I'm referring to the DHCP connections, the static connections, internet IP address, Dynamic DNS and DNS server, etc.

Does the router have a chip that retains settings when powered off? I don't care about the DHCP lease since I have a Dynamic DNS service for my ip cameras. Why would changing leases too often cause problems?
The router really doesn't put out that much power. 10-20 watts max.
The chip will retain the settings just not the dhcp lease. Usually after 2 hours of being off it will release the lease.
It doesn't always happen though so you may have the same one when you turn it back on the next day.
Your guide on the tv will work when turned back on, but you may need to reboot your dvr/stb at times.
The dvr should at least store enough guide info to be able to record events while the router is off. You may or may not run into problems with shows being set to record overnight while the router is off.
If you dont have a dvr then there's no issues there.
Don't worry about the dhcp lease. If you for some reason run into an issue with it you can always call Verizon. The main issue you may run into is where the lease is released and you won't be able to pull a new one in. That's when you would have to call them. I've known people who lost power overnight and ran into this issue. The router wouldn't pull a new one in. You shouldn't have this problem though.
Turn if off at night if you want and if you run into problems then just leave it on at that point forward.
This is what Actiontec says about turning off the router at night. Comes from their website.
Should I turn the Actiontec Router or Modem Off each night, or should I leave it On, perpetually?
"Actiontec Routers and Modems are designed to be left on continuously. The nature of the Internet makes an 'always on' connection very desirable, and in some cases a requirement. Turning the Actiontec Off when it is not being used, could arguably add to security. But any gains to Security by not being connected to the Internet 24/7, must be balanced against the loss of much convenience.
Whether it is a computer or a router, many users feel that turning electronic devices Off and On each day will wear them out prematurely, and others are convinced it will not.
Actiontec recommends leaving our routers and Modems on continuously, but they can be turned Off and On each day if you prefer."

  • How to configure VPN with Cisco ASA 5505 behind Actiontec MI424WR

I'm trying to test my Cisco VPN client from my workplace to my home where I have a Cisco ASA 5505 (VPN server) behind the Actiontec MI424WR.  I'm able to Ping the Actiontec external IP.  I also have Port Forwarding for IKE and IPSec configured on the Actiontec, but I cannot establish the VPN connection.
What do I need to configure on the Actiontec to make this work?
Also, when I test this at home, the MI424WR acts as the DHCP server for my laptop and the Cisco outside interface.  At home, I'm able to establish the VPN connection from my laptop to the ASA, allowing me to see a shared drive behind the ASA.  However, at home, I cannot go to the Internet while using the VPN client.
    Thanks for any help.

those are the best sample config's and resources on how to set the FiOS network
Bridging is possible but difficult.  That link will give you great info on it.
Are you a FiOS customer that has phone/internet/tv
or no tv?   or no phone?    You have to be careful on your configuration or you might lose some TV features and functionality, like the Interactive Program Guide, or the VOD or the Widgets.
Sorry the Portforwarding wasn't enough to resolve your issue, I am not sure that it's a Actiontec config you are looking for, from my understanding of Cisco's and FiOS it may be something behind the cisco that is causing an issue.  You may want to reach out to the Cisco admin that manages that, and find out if there are additional ports that are required and then you can come back and configure those ports too.

    Hello,
I am trying to do load testing my PHP Web Application.
I record (with Firefox) and developed the testing script with OpenScript,
but I found that I could only test with "Iteration" feature.
Is there any way to do load testing with concurrent users ( multi users login at the same time ) which defined in databank?
    Thanks for help.

    Hi
You need to load the script into OLT (Oracle Load Testing) you can download it from here you need the first link Oracle Application Testing Suite and run the OATSxxx.exe to install OLT.

  • ITunes Home Sharing and the Actiontec MI424WR

I have a MacPro Desktop that holds a pretty huge iTunes library (35,500+ items). It's the mothership and is connected to my home network via ethernet. I have a Dell Media Center machine (Vista; also ethernet) hooked to the TV and basic home theater system. It's the number one player for Home Sharing. On them, Home Sharing works flawlessly.
My wife's HP laptop (Vista; wireless connection) and my MacBook Pro on the other hand are a little quirky. If hooked up via ethernet, everything is fine. When using them wirelessly however, Home Sharing (as well as the Shared links in Finder on the MBP) disappear. In fact, I can have iTunes up and running and watch the Home Share appear and disappear as I connect the MBP to the network one way or the other. The most bizarre thing is, it's worked wirelessly before. Nothing changed as far as I know, it just decided one day that it wasn't going to play nicely anymore, or something. After dwelling on this for a bit, I came to the conclusion it had to be the wireless router (Actiontec MI424WR for Verizon FIOS) that was causing the issue. It was the only common denominator.
Opening the interface, I went to Wireless Settings then Advanced Security Settings. Everything there was innocuously fine. At the bottom of the Advanced screen, however, is a link called Other Advanced Wireless Options. Inside this menu are a number of settings probably better off left alone. The one that struck me was the second one down called "Network". It was set to "Network (Home/Office)". Seemed logical but what were the other options? Of course I checked.
Whatever selecting "Broadband" actually did (I have yet to find it described in documentation in any detail) it solved ALL of my problems. The floodgates have reopened. From the laptop I can now see the entire mixed network as well as access the iTunes library on the MacPro. What was originally thought by the Apple Care Tech to be related to the size of the library ("I've never heard of one being so large") turned out to be nothing more than a setting in the router's wireless settings menu.
Now if I can just find out what it did, exactly....

#1 Do you have only one router OR least two?
#2 If at least two routers, what is the brand and model of the other router?

    #3 Odd.
After selecting "Broadband", what else did you do?
For example, setting up a Static IP.

  • Actiontec MI424WR Router Revision I - Having a problem

    Background:
    =========
I am running FIOS Triple Play service since January 6 (20 days). I have the Actiontec MI424WR FIOS N Router REV. I with the latest firmware.   Connected to the MI424WR is an Netgear WNDR4500 (via LAN to LAN connection), which serves as Access Point.   WiFi is completely turned OFF on the Actiontec.
I had Internet/Phone only package for 18 months without any problems, service downtime or slowdowns. The connection was from the ONT directly to Netgear WNDR3700 router via Ethernet. There was no Actiontec(s) used.
    Issue:
    =====
The problem desrcibed below is happening on my HARDWIRED PC (meaning, connected via Ethernet to LAN), so this has nothing to do with WIFI.
On four separate occasions I noticed that after running for about 48-72 hours, that the internet pretty much stops working. Some pages stop loading (cannot be found) but some do load (VERY SLOWLY), but do not display graphics, or the text is misalligned and in weird fonts.  In addition, my Outlook 2010 starts getting "stuck" in trying to retrieve email, and PING'ing sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.  Bascially, it's like my whole internet goes down, but not 100%.  Maybe 95%.
    Testing:
    ======
Going to 192.168.1.1 (IP of Actiontec) and/or 192.168.1.26 (IP of Netgear WNDR4500) shows that both are connected to the internet. However, those same pages load  (if at all) "very slowly".
I initially thought that thep roblem may be within my PC or the Netgear WNDR4500, but I am 99% sure it is not related to either. First of all, I have been running the same build of Windows 7 SP1 for at least 6 months and I never have any problems. Additionally, when these internet issues start, the rest of the computer continues to run just fine. REBOOTING the PC (numerous times) does NOT resolve the issue.
I then went on to see if rebooting the WNDR4500 helps anything. Nada. Same issues remain.
Only when I reboot the Actiontec MI424WR FIOS N Router REV. I (running firmware version: 40.19.22) does the problem get completely resolved. This is done while the the is PC on and without any reboots. After the Actiontec goes back online, I am able to just refresh any of the "defective" webpages, and they re-load fast and looking just fine.   All of he four times I have had this happen all I needed to do is turn off and then back on the Actiontec.
This lasts for about 48-72 hours, and then the same exact problem arises.
    Conclusion:
    ========
Something must be happening to the Actiontec that causes this scenario. By the way, the STB's work just fine during this whole ordeal.  I have checked the log file of the Actiontec and cannot find anything abnormal.
I would love to hear opinions from others, or especially if you think you had something like this happen to you.
I just can't imagine what it can be.  I do have Verzion giving me a replacement Rev. I (RED case) router later this week.  Perhaps ithe one I have is flaky.

Well, my replacement Rev I lasted for the same 48 or so hours and then the same exact problem appeared.
I have decided to flash my WNDR4500 with the BETA firmware as the next step of trying to solve my issue. It is : Version 1.0.0.103 - BETA
In the mentime, here is a copy of my Actiontec LOG file from the moment the replacement Rev I. was installed to the moment I had to turn it off/on manually to fix thing (at 9:44:05 on Feb 2). I don't see anything wrong anywhere.
I have redacted my IP address for privacy.

  • Maximum number of concurrent users that can connect to a SQL DB

I see various SQL DB plan S0, S1, S2 and P1, P2 and P3.  Each one of them talk about DTU's but never talk about the max number of concurrent users.  Where can I find that number and is it configurable by the end user?

It is the maximum connection that is most important. Best practice is not to have users holding on to their connection for long period of time. Maximum user connection in SQL is 32767, resource permitting. Not sure for Azure SQL. If you follow best
practice, you are not supposed to hit this limit cause other limits will be hit first.

  • Scalability in BlazeDS - What is the maximum number of concurrent users possible with BlazeDS?

    Hi all,
is there a limit on the number of concurrent users that can connect via BLAZEDS? I see many places that it is only in 100s and not in 1000s.
is that true? Anybody has doen performance testing on that?
    Thanks
    Kiran

What is practical? Probably between 1 and 6 streams can be done with reasonable use of bandwidth. However, keep in mind that you will likely want to use the lowest quality setting for cameras so they are demanding the least amount of bandwidth.
Using the Connect 8 numbers, Low quality webcam video with the room at LAN settings should have an aprox average bandwidth consumption of 184 kbps. From there it is just simple math. 6 live streams at that setting will be 1.1 Mbps. Alternatively, at High quality webcam video and with the room at LAN, each stream will average aprox 501 kbps. 6 streams will average 3 Mbps.

  • # of Concurrent Users in an Application

Is there a way to determine the # of Concurrent Users in an application at specific points in time?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hello Mark,
    >> I was still left wondering about concurrent user usage of the application
Concurrent users in a Web environment/application is a bit tricky. One moment you are there, and in the other you closed your browser, and the application can’t really know that. So first you need to define what you consider to be an active user, and from that to compute concurrent users.
@Roel – I’ve just noticed your new title as Oracle ACE. Congratulations.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • How can I know the number of concurrent users

    Dears,
We have a sizing document from one of our vendors which is asking for the "Peak number of concurrent users in E-mail".
How can we estimate that? is it something like 5% of Total # of Users?

    Hi,
If your field symbol has been defined as an internal table :
    Use std describe as
    Data: l type i.
    describe <fs> lines l.
'l' will contain the number of lines as needed.
    FYI
The size of this storage area in a field symbols depends on the number of table lines which is not fixed, but determined dynamically at runtime.
