Condition tags set up in FrameMaker don't display correctly in RoboHelp for TCS 3.5

Hi everyone,
I am using Technical Communication Suite 3.5 (which is FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9). From past discussions I understand that there are two methodologies for working with conditional text.
Conditionalize the text in FrameMaker and then control what does and doesn't show using build expressions in RoboHelp. In this case the Apply FrameMaker Conditional Text Build Expression is not selected in RoboHelp and Show All is selected in FrameMaker.
Conditionalize the text in FrameMaker and then control what does and doesn't show in RoboHelp by using build expressions in FrameMaker itself. In this case the Apply FrameMaker Conditional Text Build Expression is selected in RoboHelp and a build expression is applied in FrameMaker and only what is showing in FrameMaker is brought into RoboHelp.
If I am incorrect in how this should work in theory, please let me know!
What I really want to do is the first option. I want to bring all of the text (with conditions) into RoboHelp and then create Single Source Layouts with different conditions defined.
What I'm actually seeing is this:
If Apply FrameMaker Conditional Text Build Expression is not selected in RoboHelp, some topics have conditions that are applied correctly. But, in other topics, text that is not conditionalized in FrameMaker has conditions applied.
Miscellaneous (maybe relevant? stuff):
I am linking the project, not importing.
I read that the condition names in FrameMaker cannot have a dash in them, so I edited the names in FrameMaker and removed the dash.
Thanks,
Linda

Hi All,
Although I have replied Jen separately but would like to elaborate the issue with source FM which causes such kind of issue in RoboHelp.
The issue is with the source FM document as elaborate below:-
When we apply a Conditional text to any FM list by selecting the whole line as shown in image-1 then the conditions spill over in the generated topic in RoboHelp,
the best practice will be to select the text of the list item only and apply condition as shown in the second image "HowToApplyConditiontoList".
This will not let the condition spill over in the generated topic in RoboHelp and your conditions will appear properly in RoboHelp
Hope this will help

  • Applications don't display correct filenames with special charactars

    Hi,
my problem is that some applications does not display correct filenames which have special characters in their names, like accentuated Hungarian or Romanian characters, @, etc.
This behavior is specific for all QT/KDE apps, tilda, xfce4-terminal, mc, however thunar, gedit and I presuppose all gtk apps does show the names correctly.
I figured out that there should be some locals config issue, maybe I need to set it Unicode, but I don't know how and surprisingly there is no wiki page about it, this is why I asked for your help.

I use the same font family (droid) in all my applications, in KDE, in Xfce, and use droid monospace in terminals ( xfce4-terminal and konsole ). While krusader an dolphin shows "á" and mc opened in Terminal shows ?? in place of "á", thunar and ls ( the bash command ) display those filenames correctly.
There are two possibilities, that I think:
    1. The filenames are not converted to utf8 - i think they are, because there are 2 wrong characters showed instead of one, and some of my apps does show the filenames correctly
    2. GTK apps and mc does not handle utf8 correctly. I had this filenames issue with kde4 in any distribution I used ( openSUSE, Kubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian ), but in mc only in Archlinux.
So i think there is a configuration issue.

  • LaTeX brackets don't display correctly (jsMath)

I'm currently working with OLAT (a java based web application to manage lectures) and try to write some text containing LaTeX code inside (there is a html text editor which allows the use of LaTeX formulas via jsMath). When I try to display large brackets around a vector (with more than two rows), schematically :
    <pre><nowiki>\begin{pmatrix}
    x_1 \\ x_2 \\ x_3
    \end{pmatrix}</nowiki></pre>
, the brackets aren't visible and there are some symbols instead (look at the screenshots). For shorter vectors (up to two rows), the problem doesn't appear.
Note that I encounter this problem on Firefox 27.0.1, both on Linux (Kubuntu 13.10) and Windows (7), but for instance not with other browsers (chromium, rekonq, etc.). Interestingly, someone tried this on a 27.0.01 version of Firefox under Archlinux, and the large brackets seems to be displayed correctly. It also seems to be working on Internet Explorer 9, 10 and 11.

Well, the page inspector seemed indeed to indicate that those specific jsMath fonts were required... and it solves the problem ! Shame on me not to have checked that additional point... And thank you for your help !
So for anyone encountering the same problem, you just have to install the missing jsMath fonts available here :
    http://www.math.union.edu/~dpvc/jsmath/download/jsmath-fonts.html
However, there's still something that I don't quite understand : without the jsMath fonts installed on my OS, the page displayed correctly within some other browsers running on the same machine, is there a particular explanation or does Firefox work in a different way when it comes to those font problematics ?

  • Photostream picture's don't display correctly on iphone

When i push pictures previously taken with my iphone to my photostream, they won't display correctly when I want to view them on my iphone. It seems like the pictures are zoomed in all the way, and so only a small part of the picture is displayed. Does anyone know a fix for this, or how to prevent this? Only some pictures are displayed incorrectly. And they all seem to have been taken around the same time.
Hope someone can help me out with this.

These two folders have done this ever since I created them. I have deleted all bookmarks in Firefox and then reintroduced them all... Problem still persisted. I took the bookmarks out of the subfolders and deleted the subfolders. Bookmarks worked. I recreated the folders and added the bookmarks in, the problem still persisted.
I have a 27" iMac. The bookmarks open to the right, then the subfolders, right again. But they function because of the extra real estate. On this notebook, they open right, then left... With the exception of these two subfolders. It is a conundrum!
This issue actually drove me back to Safari. I like Firefox, but this is crazy!

  • Empty Finder folders don't display correctly in Mountain Lion

Anyone else experienced this or have a solution?
I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion last night (on a late 2010 MacBook Air). Everything went smoothly. But I have an irritating problem with Finder.
When opening folders (from sidebar icons or from main window icons), if the folder contains documents or subfolders Finder displays the contents of the folder correctly.
However if the folder is empty, Finder displays either the contents of the last folder that I looked at that did contain documents, or a strange jumbled mix of icons. These can be selected, but cannot be deleted, opened, viewed, etc.
So, for example, if I open my Documents folder (which has a lot of things in it), Finder displays the contents correctly.
If I then open my Downloads folder (which is empty), Finder either displays the contents of the Documents folder, or a strange mix of icons.
Any suggestions? The only workaround I've found is to set the empty folders to a different type of view (e.g. the detailed list).

I have a 2008 iMac and a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro. Neither machine has been hacked and neither machine has been modified from the way it came from the factor. The only thing my vanilla-flavored Macs have in common is Mountain Lion, which runs fine otherwise.
If I create an empty folder and attempt to open it, the Finder window has the same contents but the title of the empty folder. At some point there is no way to get out of the empty folder (except by opening a new Finder window). If you are outside the empty folder, at some point it cannot be deselected or deleted. (It can be deleted in the Terminal with the rmdir command.) Restarting FInder doesn't seem to help. You can only remove the folder in the Terminal.
If you create a new folder and immediately put something into it, it behaves normally, but if you remove that item from the folder, the weird behavior returns. If an empty folder has ever contained anything, you can't delete it in Terminal because it now contains a .DS_Store file. You can delete that file and then remove the foldler.
If you create an empty folder on the desktop, it will behave as expected. If you move that empty folder to some other place without putting anything into it, it has the weird behavior in the new location.
Some developer at Apple is really sweating bullets right now.

  • Bookmarks don't display correctly on a 13" MacBook Pro, some subfolders won't expand, Anybody have this issue? Thank you!

    I am using a 13" MacBook Pro, Mid-2012 with OS 10.9.3.
A while back I created some sub-folders in several bookmark headings. Several of them do not expand when hovering over them. The bookmarks are displayed towards the right side of the screen, and the next tier or level should display towards the left. It does not. I have deleted and reinstalled the bookmarks several times. I have removed the subfolders, and the book marks work fine.
All of the bookmarks display and work correctly on my 27" iMac.
Is this a screen real estate issue? Is there a fix for this?
    Thank you!

  • Many pages don't display correctly under OS X Lion

Graphics don't load, links don't connect. . . . Is this a conspiracy to persuade people to switch to Safari? Because the problems don't occur on that browser. Hmmmm . . . .

Log into another user account on your Mac and see if those themes behave the same. If they do then it seems that a reinstall of iDVD is indicated.
To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iDVD" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iDVD from the disk it came on originally and apply all needed updaters: Apple - Support - Downloads

  • Fonts don't display correctly

I opened a site to make some updates, and several of my fonts are not displaying correctly in the Design window.  When I click on Preview the fonts are correctly displayed, but some graphics and text move position. Is anyone else having these problems?

I followed the feedback provided at http://forums.adobe.com/message/6273605#6273605 and renamed the folders tk1 and tk2.  This seems to resolve the font rendering issue for Bebas Neue and Rosario, but the Preview page still does not match the Design page with 100% accuracy.
It is at least usable now to make edits.

  • Macmail:  all new e-mails display the correct sender - but they don't display correct contents - they pick up contents from old e-mails.  Emails on Iphone are fine.

I just opened-up my mac book air this morning and looked at my mac mail (which runs my g-mail account).  I saw that a couple of new e-mails had come in - the name of the sender was displayed correctly - but the contents of the e-mail were from old e-mails.  I checked my Iphone and the mails are all coming in fine.  I had loaded attachment tamer on last night (great attachment - Mac why can't you fix this oversight?) I wondered if this might be the problem and I have re-moved it and the problem is still there.
    Any thoughts?

I apologize; I should have mentioned I already tried that, multiple times
It's almost like, since the messages show a qty in the status bar, that their text has been changed to white, the background color. But when i use Search Messages to get at what's there, the text color is black as it should be.
    Any further comments welcomed.
    Thanks much

  • Excel & Word file don't display text after 10.6.4 update

Installed 10.6.4 update last week on an iMac and the cells within my excel sheets went blank. The data is still there but do not show up on screen. Tried several variation of start up and even reinstalled Office only for problem to exist still. New documents will display text but most of my existing office documents appear blank.
So... Today I reinstalled snow leopard and my text was back & displaying until I ran the OS updates. Every thing was fine until 10.6.4 and poof!!! there went my text in office. This glitch even effects some existing word documents. Graphic, images and pdf's don't seem to be effected. Any body else having this problem?
    Just dumb founded....

I've been experiencing the same issue. I upgraded to 10.6.4 and I lost several fonts. The interesting thing is I also lost several power point images I had created. Shapes and lines were missing even though they did not involve the offending fonts, at least not directly. There was text elsewhere in the image that used it. Why this should obliterate the rest of the images I don't know.
The three offending Fonts for me were:
    1) Times New Roman
    2) Arial
    3) Brush Script MT
Anywho, I managed to fix this on my machine so I'm posting how I did it here. I'm not so sure as to the why, but here it goes.
On my machine I have 4 font folders
    1) -> System -> Library -> Fonts
    2) -> Library -> Fonts
    3) -> Users -> Me -> Library -> Fonts
    4) -> Applications -> Office X -> Office -> Fonts (yes, I'm still running Office X from 2000)
Inside of the Font Book application, it was kind enough to point out I had duplicate fonts. Some of these were the fonts in question and others caused me no troubles. Go figure. Anyway, disabling one or the other of the duplicate fonts did not fix the problem.
Here's what did, though. In my case the duplicate fonts existed in the second of the font directories above (henceforth referred to as Font2) and the third of the font directories listed above (Font3). I browsed to these directories and copied the fonts to my desktop to have a back up. Back in Font Book, I told it to remove each instance of the Arial and Times New Roman fonts that would not display correctly in Excel (for the moment, I left Brush Script MT alone, kind of like a control)
Now at this point there were no Arial or Times New Roman fonts in my Font Book. Turns out they were removed from Font1, Font2 and Font3, so good thing I have a backup.
    1) Opened up Excel. It did its font menu optimization thing and sure enough, I couldn't see anything.
    2) I close Excel.
    3) I double clicked on Times New Roman that I had in Font4. Font Book opened it and I chose to install it. It put it in my Font3 directory.
    4) I opened up Excel. It did its font menu optimization thing. Suddenly I can see Times New Roman again!
    5) I close Excel.
    6) I double click on the Arial Font from my Font4 directory. Font Book opens it and I install it to my Font3 directory.
    7) I open Excel, it does its font menu optimization thing and suddenly I can see Arial!
    8) I close Excel.
Now at this point I'm wondering if my old font files got corrupted and because I was installing using the ones from my Font4 directory (which avoids the system directly) I was getting them back. So to test, I told Font Book to remove Times New Roman again, I go through the test of opening and confirming in Excel, and then I install the Times New Roman font from my desktop that I had copied out of the Font2 directory. Everything works fine in Excel. So it's not the file that was bad.
I was also wondering if I needed to remove all instances of the fonts or if just one was causing the trouble. So I go back to Font Book and remove the instance of Brush Script MT that was in my Font3 directory. When I opened Excel I still couldn't see anything.
I reinstalled the copy of Brush Script MT from the desktop and tried removing the other instance of the font, the one from the Font2 Directory. Excel still shows nothing. I then reinstall the associated font file from the desktop. Excel still doesn't like me.
Finally, I removed all instances of Brush Script MT and installed at random one of them from the desktop. Suddenly Excel likes it.
So I don't know what the problem was, maybe an associated was bad, but either way the only way I could get my fonts back was to remove all instances of the bad fonts from Font Book and then install the font again.
In between removing and installing I would go into Excel where it would refresh its Font list at startup. Not sure if this had anything to do with it either.
All my fonts now display correctly and all my powerpoint drawn images show up as well. I hope this helps someone else!

  • Email messages don't display in thunderbird message pane but wdseml file is good.

There are some email messages that don't display correctly in the Thunderbird message pane.
Either the pane is completely empty or chunks of html show up in the pane.
I checked the actual email file stored in:
    C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\d976yxfm.default\Mail\pop-server\Inbox.mozmsgs
and it looks good, as the Windows 7 explorer window is able to show the email message cleanly in the preview window.
When I click on "View Source", it shows the wrong source file, I think.
The text in the "view source" window doesn't match the text in the ".wdseml" file at all.
Note: I recently migrated my C drive from a spinning hard disk to an SSD, perhaps this caused the weirdness? But, most of my email messages do display correctly, just some of them are hosed.
    Any ideas how to fix?
Currently running Windows 7, 64 bit, latest update from Microsoft (as of 3/13/2014).
    Thunderbird version 24.3.0.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Windows still has a command processor.
    So no need for bash.
type CMD into the search box to locate it
If you can use bash I assume your familiar with CD to change folders.
One little thing I use to save typing is I locate the folder in Explorer, click beside the path so it changes to a C:\ based item and use Ctrl + C to copy it and paste it into my CMD session. CTRL+V does not work, but edit on the windows system menu does.
To rename the files, navigate to the folder they are in and Copy *.wdseml *.eml
once you do the import return and del *.eml to clear out the duplicates from the first step.

  • Text Inset in Container File Loses Conditional Tag

    Hi,
    (Framemaker 8.0p277,unstructured)
I have a number of books that make use of text inset and conditional text.  Some text insets contain conditional text in their source. Then, after the inset is put into the container file, the inset may be further conditionalized. This illustrates the situation:
    --- Text Inset ---
This inset was created for end users.
When using function X, blah blah blah
    -----End Inset----
The red text indicates an InternalDocComment condition. This inset is then placed into the container file where it has another condition applied, PrintOnly for example. PrintOnly is in blue.
The writer is able to set all this up fine. After placing the inset into the container, she selects the inset and applies PrintOnly.  The text inset appears in blue and the InternalDocComment as visible shows the maroon of two mixed colors. The writer saves the file, continues working on the files, then later in the week, the writer opens the container file. The blue color indicator is gone from the inset. When the writer selects the inset and chooses Apply Conditional Text, the Conditional Text dialog shows the current selection is Conditional (radio button) but no tags appear in the In portion of the dialog.
I've tried using spacer paragraphs in and around the text inset to see if we can get the conditional tag to "stick" but nothing is working.
Has anyone run into this before?
    TIA,
    Mary

I use a lot of conditional text and insets but within a structured document. I have noticed that FrameMaker does not always do what one thinks it does. For example, copy a piece of unconditional text and paste it in the middle of conditional text and the pasted text remains unconditional. Each time you open the document, FrameMaker updates the text insets. In your case, it is updating a text inset that is on the whole unconditional. So, my guess is that it bringing it in as unconditional, much like the copy and paste example above. You might test this by creating a small document with the inset and over conditioning, saving it in the mif format, opening the mif file, and looking at how the conditioning is applied. Then save the Frame file, open it, save as mif, and repeat the above. If the containing file conditions DO hold up, then try removing the conditioning within the containing file and reapplying it; this may help to clear out some bad conditioning.
I vaguely recall trying to conditionalize a text inset within the containing document and had problems. I cannot remember what exactly the problems were. My solution was to do the conditioning within the inset file itself. So, if the text inset is always to be conditionalized in the containing document, then do the conditioning within the document itself.

  • Ability to globally delete all text/topics that have a certain conditional tag?

When deleting a conditional tag in FrameMaker, there is an option to either delete all tagged text, or make the text unconditional. But in Robohelp, it seems the only option is to make the text unconditional. Is there any way to delete all the text with a specific conditional tag, other than deleting it manually? I am using Robo 7. Is there an option to do this in the newer versions? Thanks!

If you are bringing in content from FrameMaker and want to delete (not bring) certain content having a conditional text applied in the FM source, then while conversion there is a simple way to achieve it, apply "FrameMaker condition text build Expression" during Import/Link FM source.
If you use this option while you import or Link any FM source with conditions, then all the text/content having condition set as hidden in FrameMaker will get remove from the topics generated
but inside RoboHelp you dont have this option to directly remove content from topic, but while generating any output you have the option to exclude any content with a condition applied over it!
    Hope this will help

  • Best way to conditionally tag for translation from English to Spanish?

Is it best/more efficient to conditionally tag for translation from English to Spanish in structured FrameMaker or in Robohelp?

This is more info gathering at this point, full requirements are not yet defined. Definitely want the RH help translated; might also need the FM book translated, but not sure.

  • FM 9: Cannot apply conditional tags

I've been able to create conditional text tags, apply them, and see the conditional indicators fine in several documents using FM 9. Recently, in a new book, I'm unable to apply conditional tags. I believe I've figured out the new UI, since conditional tagging has worked before. I can create tags and configure them fine, but when I apply them to text, a table, graphic, etc. nothing happens; the text remains unconditional.

What specific version of FM, as shown in Help > About?  What O/S and service pack level?
Does FM's built-in Comment condition work for you?
As a test, I'd suggest creating a small test file, create a new condition and apply it to some easily searchable text, e.g. "zzxy" or something, and also apply FM's built-in "Comment" condition to another piece of text,  then saving the file as MIF. Then look at the MIF with a text editor, or the excellent freebie MIFBrowser,
    http://www.wideman-one.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm
and search for the text. You should be able to see whether the condition(s) have been applied to the text correctly (or not), and also see how the conditions themselves are defined in the Condition Catalog entries.
