Conect a MacBook to a Windows Networking

I´m tying to conect my new MacBook(just bought) to a local windows networking, but the Mac can access only the directories clasiffied as "every one". I not geting a way to access the directories that I have the permition to. As we are in a company with many people using PC´s and only one Mac (my) I need to resolve this. If I don´t I´ll have to give up.

Ensure that your Mac shortname and password match your network username and password.

  • Macbook Pro and Windows Network Printing

My family just had their PC's hooked up wirelessly on a network. Printing and everything else was all set up wirelessly also. The computer and the laptop work just fine, but for some reason we can't get my mac to hook up to the printing network. We can share itunes and internet, it's just the printing that won't work.
Any suggestions? We had a computer tech come out to help us set it up, but he couldn't figure it out either.
Thanks, I appreciate all the help I can get.

I sort of have the same problem. I have a desktop computer running Windows XP with all the latest drivers and an HP PSC 1315 All-In-One printer attached via USB to the desktop. I have been trying to install or add the printer using my MacBook via the home network (wirelessly via the router). I have tried several of the offered methods such as adding via windows and IP address. I do see the printer and upon adding it, it asks for a username and password, to my knowledge, we do not have one setup. I have also tried to add it as a guest. It still won't let me add and successfully print from my MacBook to the HP PSC 1315. Does anyone have an idea to solve this problem? Thank you very much.

  • Adding Macbook to a Windows network via Linksys router

Hi! I wonder if someone could point me to the right direction with this. Currently I have two PCs that are connected to the internet via a Linksys router. No problem there. I also have my Macbook that accesses the internet through the router, and that's fine. My problem is getting the PCs to see the Macbook and vice versa for file sharing, printer sharing, etc.
I know the computers can talk to each other because iTunes library sharing on my PCs is turned on, and the Macbook sees those. But neither the Windows machines show up in Finder, and the MacBook don't show up in Network on the PC's. Any suggestions? The PCs workgroup is the default WORKGROUP name, which I've set the Macbook to, but still no luck. I"d like to be able to print wirelessly from the Macbook to the shared printer that is connected to one of the PC's.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Thanks for answering. Yes, file and print sharing is on on the PCs, and the 1 PC can share the printer connected to the other PC. I have file and print sharing enabled on the Macbook both through AFP and SMB.
Still though, the PCs don't show up in Finder and the Mac doesn't show up when browsing the network from the PCs. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing, and that's what makes it all the more aggravating. I might add that the PCs are running Vista and the Mac is running the latest version of Leopard.

  • MacBook Pro On Windows Network

    Hi There.
My MacBook Pro is running off my AirPort Express and i can not see any shared windows devices.
    How can i fix this?
    Regards
    Luke

What it seems to be is that my AirPort Express (V1) has some sort of a firewall that blocks the Windows Computers and when i plug ethernet in to the MacBook Pro i can see the Windows Computers
Yes and no. Chances are it is the fact that the Airport Express is a "Router", and most network services for discovering local services will not cross a router boundary (after all you do not want everyone in the world seeing your stuff, and you do not want to see every service in the world when looking for you stuff; how would you ever find your stuff in that huge mess).
What you need to do is disable the router function of the Airport Express and turn it into a Bridge.
Applications -> Utilities -> Airport Utility
    Double-Click on the Airport Express
Click on the "Internet" tool bar icon
Set "Connection Sharing" to "Off (Bridge Mode)"

  • How to connect my macbook pro to a windows network

Hey... I have used my MacBook outside of the office all the time, but know we are going to use it for business purposes. We have a "basic" windows network to share files, folders, printers and scanners.  How do I start connecting my MacBook to this network.

    Hi alex,
It probably depends on which OS you're on; the following is for 10.6.8.
If you're trying wirelessly, I think you can open System Preferences > Network > click on the lock and enter your password if it's locked > select AirPort > in the dropdown menu next to Network Name select Join other network and enter the info asked for > click Apply if it's not grayed out.
If ethernet, click on Ethernet > Advanced > click on the Ethernet tab > select Automatically in the Configure dropdown menu > click on OK > click on Apply.

  • Trying to add Windows Networked HP PhotoSmart C3100 to MacBook

Hi, re-born Mac user here...first time posting to discussions group. Purchased a MacBook last Saturday, also got the HP PhotoSmart C3100 printer at our Apple store. Installed the HP software on the Mac...no issues. However, the printer will permanently reside on a Windows network at home connected to an XP box. I installed the HP software on that PC, with no issues. I run wireless-G from my MacBook to my Windows LAN to already print to a Brother HP Laserprinter. I followed instructions at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3015.html on how to do setup a network printer on a Windows network for a Mac : Applications : Utilities : Printer Setup Utility (the C3100 IS listed there...but I assume that appeared from my local USB connection..so I proceed on....) : Add : Windows Printing : Workgroup..Select : Printer Model HP : Scroll to find the C3100....but there isn't one....even after installing the HP software on the MacBook. There are some gimp drivers for older series', but nothing for the C3100, even after a successful local install.
I've looked at several posts here for printing (universal drivers and gimp...but none are for the C3100 (prob too new?).
My question: I went through the same procedures noted on ifelix.co.uk to try to install a "network version" of the HP C3100, but since I don't see a C3100, what should I do now ?
I'm thinking I should see a "Have Disk" button like in XP, but was wondering what my next step should be ? Can I pick "Other"...and roam around on the Mac Library and drill down to Library...Printers.....HP...Photosmart ? There is a non-greyed out file there , libHPUtils.10.dylib , but I don't even want to try this MS-style thing being so new to the Mac world.
Anyone have some ideas or suggestions ? Thanks so much for your help, in advance ! It's so much fun to be reunited with the MacOS after a 7 year separation !
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Eric,
As far as I know, resetting the print setup will clear any preferences or caches. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe the hp installed drivers will remain on the system and available. I have both a system supplied and HP vended driver for the printer I'm using with this machine so I can't check it now, but I'm almost certain you won't have to re-install the software.
I have multiple connections to a printer setup on a few machines. For instance, I have one profile for IP printing and another as Bonjour/rendezvous. The limitations for that type of print setup have more to do with the printer than the OS. Some HP printers do make you go through the arduous hp setup process each time you switch the interface (USB, ethernet, wireless). Some printers just work. The main reason you want to use HP software is for special features (scanning, copying, duplexing, photosharing, email, transferring data from printer attached cameras or memory cards, etc).
There's no real reason to not keep as many profiles as you use in your print center. You can rename the printers in the print center based on the interface so that you don't get confused. It's possible that you can bypass a setup routing for a PhotoSmart by just adding it twice. You may need to set something else as a default printer during this procedure.
Desktop printers are good. If you don't want the clutter you can also just drag the printer from Users/you/Library/Printers/ into the dock or into the sidebar of the finder for quick access.
BTW, if you are trying gimp, did you try the latest release of gutenprint (5.0.0 release) http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/
    Good Luck,

  • Connecting Macbook to windows network

I am trying to make my macbook join my dads network as he wants to backup to my 500gb WD My Book Harddrive. I can access all of his shared files on his desktop, his laptop and my moms laptop. They however do not even see my computer in the network. What is the problem here? Is it possible that they are just not going to it right. I hope you can help you, thank you.

I've never been able to "see" my MB from our Windows computers. Under "Windows Sharing", I have AFP and SMB selected. Due to the warning when FTP is selected, I haven't checked that box. I also see the following line...
Other users can access your computer at afp://10.0.1.196/ or browse for "MacBook".
I've tried putting afp://10.0.1.196/ in a Windows computer without any luck also.
So, I've generally given up on sharing files between computers and if I need something on another computer, I "flash drive" it. However, it would be nice to be able to share.

  • HT4796 Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

Can Windows 7 be installed on my new MacBook Pro, through my network connection?  The disc would be in my Windows desktop.

I wouldn't recommend installing through a network connection.
    For a Virtual Machine:
If you have the Win 7 media (DVD), use an app like PowerISO or MagicISO to make an ISO file of the install disc and use that.
    For BootCamp:
Use the original install media and BootCamp Assistant, to install from your DVD Drive.

  • Macbook Pro not printing to Windows network printer

    Hello,
Recently purchased Macbook Pro Mac OS 10.7.2 Lion and I am unable to print to a windows network printer.
When I click the print button nothing happens. I have tried to print from Safari, Word, Excel etc and nothing happens.
The printer is added and showing as idle. ( I am able to print to the printer from my own Windows 7 PC).
I have reset the printer settings and re-added but the issue remains.
Both the printer and Macbook are connected to the network.
    Has anyone any suggestions please?.
    Thanks,
    Frank

. are you using the right driver? try checking with HP if they have a driver that is compatible with lion.

  • MacBook to print on a windows network

I have proceeded with the install process to enable my mac to print to my windows network. However, when I attempt to give my username and password, nothing works. "Administrator" or my XP login will be accepted. Are there settings on the XP machine that need to be revised? Any assistance is appreciated.

The apple link I provided above has the same procedure it is: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301397 I would like to know why following the regular install method does not work for a lot of people. It will not authenticate unless you provide the IP user name and password in the advanced manual way. It is easy enough to do it manually with good instructions. The people helping need to be careful, they all seem to post the first iFelix site and do no get that it is the authentication that is messed up. I searched this site and many others and people just don't get that some of us for what ever reason have to use smb and install the user name and password manually. It almost drove me nuts. BDAqua helped me figure out the smb protocol on the networking thread.

  • How to work on iMac files from a new Macbook over home wireless network

    Hi,
A quick question for anyone who can help. Most of the time I work on my iMac G5. But I've now also got a MacBook, and I want to be able to use that as much as possible (ie not having to be at my desk upstairs at all times).
What I need help with is file sharing. I know that I need to put files into the iMac's public folder for them to be accessible on the MacBook over my wireless network. What I'm not sure, and want to check before doing anything drastic in case I cause unintended problems, is whether there are limits of any sort on what can/should be put in the public folder.
For example, can I just drag my whole Documents folder (or my Work folder within it, about 0.5GB worth) into the Public folder? Would that then mean that I can access all my Work files from either machine?
Apologies if this is a non-query - if it is as simple as just dragging as much or as little as I want into the Public folder. I had just assumed that I'd be able to mark files/folders that I wanted to be visible/sharable over the network - and am a bit wary about shifting the locations on my iMac of huge numbers of my files.
A final follow-on query. I'd ilke to use the DVD burner on the MacBook to back-up my iTunes library (which, again, is on my iMac). Would this again be a matter of relocating the library (even temporarily) in the Public Folder so that the MacBook can see it and back it up?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance....

On the iMac - Turn on Personal File Sharing
On the MacBook - In the Finder, click on "Go", then "Connect to Server...", then type in the address of the iMac (you can find this at the bottom of the "Personal File Sharing" window on the iMac).
Click on "Connect" and enter your account name and password for the iMac.
You should get a list of available items to access, at a minimum your home directory (you don't have to use the Public shared folder). If you use Admin credentials, you can mount the hard drive and access the programs you have on the iMac and run them from the MacBook - not all programs will work this way but most of the ones I use work.

  • Trying to connect a MacBook and a Windows Laptop through WRT54G - no success

I have a MacBook and a Windows XP Laptop and try to connect both through the WRT54G Wireless router which is connected to my DSL modem. The router serves as DHCP and allows 5 connections, using WPA as security.
I can be online with my Windows Laptop no problem, but when I try to connect with the MacBook it connects for a few minutes and then both get kicked off. The Laptop continues to show that it is connected to the wireless network, but I can't go to the internet anymore. The WLAN LED on the router stops being lit. Only way for reconnection is restarting the Router (unplug/replug).
When I go online with the MacBook ONLY through wireless or by cable to the router it gets connected, but stays online for 1-2 minutes only as well, then drops off.
The only way now for the MacBook to stay permanently online is to wire it to the DSL modem, but then I can not get online with the Windows Laptop.
I have browsed a number of online forums and tried the tips (different channel, I switched from WEP to WPA etc) but nothing has helped so far.
    please help!
    thanks, Michael

I resolved the problem !!! Apparently the MAC's had some software/firmware updates that needed to be installed. I installed the updates and am able to go on the internet wireless along with the PC's. I have not lost any connection since I downloaded and installed the updates. These updates included Airport Extreme 2007's which I think may have been the problem.
