Conecting 15 machinse (8 mac Pro + 7 Power Mac G4) to one mac mini.

I need to Conecting 15 machinse (8 mac Pro + 7 Power Mac G4) to one mac mini at the same time with out destrict me after 10 or 11 logins or i need the Software "Apple File Share Server or Apple Share IP instaler to run on Mac OS 9.2.2.

Thanks for the advice!
I'll look into getting a good quality UPS in the meantime, however the situation changed the other day when I came home from work.
I turned on the Mac and it got as far as the login screen. After about two minutes of being on the login screen (I didn't actually enter my details or touch anything at this stage) it just turned itself off randomly. Therefore, I don't think what I'm trying to do in Avidemux is totally to blame for the problem in this respect.
After the Mac turned itself off this time, it wouldn't let me turn it back on for about 30 seconds of pressing the power button. When it finally started up again, it seemed to run fine for the rest of the evening.
Does this sound like the power supply is on its way out or could it be something else? If I need a new power supply, will I need a specific type of power supply and not just a standard PC one?
Any further help appreciated.

    Issued solved:
    - in order to make nvidia graphics working you have to disable Optimius in BIOS.
    - Battery not recognized -- fixed after recend updates
    - grub2 does not work. As soon as grub2 loads, the laptop reboots. -> stick to grub1  --  works now (either I did sth wrong the first time or a new version of grub2 fixes this issue)
    - in order to make the touchpad work properly install psmouse-elantech from AUR
update: this is only a half-solution. vertical scrolling on the right edge works but graphical tools which rely on x11-input-synpatics still don't work. However, everything works fine with kernel 3.3. Once this in the main arch repos you won't need psmouse-elantech anymore.

my mac pro's power adapter has something wrong, sometime can work, sometime dosen't, can you fix it? i brought this mac pro last year.

No, we can't fix it. Probably live half the world away from you and don't have telephatic powers....
But you can try yourself. First, make sure the connector is absolutely clean. The gold pins on the cable end should all move freely and fully extend out. The gold pads on the Mac connector should be spotlessly clean, and the area around them, where the metal ring on the cable goes in, should be free of any debris that may impede full seating and contact.
Next, the cable on the power brick should be in good condition, without kinking or fraying. If there is any damage, only solution is replacement, it is not serviceable.
Lastly, make sure the battery is ok. Go to the About This Mac item in the Apple menu, do More Info... / System Report... and select Power on the left column. In the Battery Information, Health section, make sure the Condition is Normal. Else, will need replacement.

Put the G4 into Target Disk Mode and open Migration Assistant on the new MBP. Your G4 needs to be running 10.5.8.

  • Using Logic 7.2 on a Mac Pro with Protools 7.2.1 and Mac OS 10.4.7

I am researching purchasing a New Protools/Logic System
Seems the version of Protools to use with the new Mac Pros is 7.2.1, which only recently came out to work with the new "Mac Pros" Digidesign has stated thhat it works with and Mac OS 10.4.7
The latest version of Logic is 7.2 which has been out for a while....hmmm
Is anybody using Logic 7.2 on a New Mac Pro with Protools 7.2.1 and Mac OS 10.4.7, and does it work?

Logic Pro 7.2.2 is not compatible with DAE/TDM on a Mac Pro INTEL.
You will see only "CoreAudio" as available choice, when trying to engage your audio hardware.
We have to wait for any announcements in this regard, maybe at AES or DigiDays in San Francisco.

Generally, it's ok to install on two machines as long as they are both yours and you only use one version at a time.

You cannot cross the line without changing the cabling, which may be more expensive that just replacing the drive with a new one.
You both should be sure to update to 10.6.8 if you have not already done so, to provide enhanced malware protection. If you cannot do that, turn off JAVA (not javascript) in all your Browsers.

  • Mac Pro 2013 power rating

This thing isn't meant to be used at full power, right?
I mean clearly 450W isn't enough to power 250W+250W for the D700s, 130W for the processor, and maybe around ~30-50W for the rest of the system?
What's the catch here? Why underpower it? Why make a product that can't handle its own specs? Even if there was a bigger power source for all of this to work, that "cooling system" has nowhere near the capacity to manage all of that heat. I'm of course assuming full usage on both the graphics and cpu at the same time, which isn't at all an uncommon task.
What I want to know how much throttling happens, and at what configuration can i fully use all of the components at their full potential? Can the base system configuration do this?

there was a good discussion as often happens over on MacRumors MacPro forum that touched on this very aspect and it does point to it not being able to handle maxing out and stressing both graphic units plus processor.
I usually throw in 100W for RAM, storage (even though this one barely needs any for its PCIe-SSD), and whatever power goes into 6 Thunderbolt ports.
300W use to be what 4 x 75W for the four PCIe slots in OLD Mac Pro.
    Electrical and operating requirements
    Line voltage: 100-240V AC
Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz, single phase

    Step 22 ¶
With a rated output of 12.1 Volts and 37.2 Amps, we're looking at a 450 Watt power supply. The power supply has no dedicated cooling, and relies on the main system fan to keep cool—allowing the Mac Pro to idle at a whisper-quiet 12 dBA.
For comparison, we found a 450 Watt PSU in our recent Steam Machine teardown. The Steam Machine's SilverStone power supply featured a "silent running 80 mm fan with 18 dBA minimum."
And a quick look at what's left on the behemoth of a heat sink: Heavy gauge, flat power cables run from the PSU to the logic board and graphics cards, and remain intertwined in the heat sink.

  • Mac Pro flashing power light (unresponsive)

    Hello,
Twice this week a Mac Pro Quad 2.66 has become unresponsive after being left unattended. I have revived the computer by resetting the System Management Controller (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806).
It's obvious this is not normal. Should I bring the computer in for repair? Is there something else I should be doing?
    Connected to the computer are:
    - Two Lacie Electron 19 Blue III monitors
    - Lacie usb drive
    - Lacie firewire 400 drive
    - JVC DV-HRS2 Mini DV deck (firewire)
    - both ethernet ports are being used
    Thanks,

    Hello,
No USB hubs or USB/FW on the monitors. The lacie drives are older models and don't have the On/Off/Auto switch.
I think this happens when the computer and drive go to sleep. I will try to change the cables and plug the drives in one at a time.
    Thanks Hatter.
    The hatter wrote:
A device that doesn't support sleep and loses communication. And LaCie. USB devices and cables. Any USB hub.
Could be as simple as a USB cable; Firewire cable... does the Electron have USB and/or FW ports also?
LaCie recommends unplugging everything, shutting down, no power cord even and let sit a couple minutes.
Try without your peripherals and then try one at a time.
The big problem is if you are doing a hard restart w/o repairing your drives, whether you safely eject your drives first.
LaCie cables and power adapters can be a problem as I said, but any hub, mouse, keyboard can cause a problem but most often the mouse moves but you can't do anything and system is unresponsive.
No you don't need to take it in. I doubt Apple Hardware Test would find anything either.

  • Mac Pro international power cable

Hello everyone, I am currently abroad, but would like to purchase the Mac Pro via the UK online store to be able to profit from student discount (I study in the UK). I realize that if I order the Mac Pro in the UK store, it will come with a UK power lead. Given that I am currently abroad, is there a way to buy the power lead for my specific country (I don't know if it's a good idea to run the Mac Pro through a plug converter 24/7)?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

You just need a pin converter and it's alright to use.

  • 2008 Mac Pro random power cut+boot issues

    Hello everyone,
I'd like to describe a problem I've been having and see if it tweaks any ideas as to what the issue might be.
In 2008, I purchased a Mac Pro 2x2.8. It's got 4gb ram (2x 1gb Hynix and 2x 1gb Kingston), 320gb, 1tb and 160gb sata's and a ATI 4870 graphics card. Up until about 3 months ago, everything has been dandy - it's the best computer I've ever had, however recently I've been having some intermittent problems that may be related, or separate.
Problem 1: In the morning when I turn it on, on some occasions it will power on for 5 or so seconds, then power right back off again. Sometimes this happens after 5, 10 or even 20 seconds (right in the middle of OS X or Windows boot). The only thing I note is that if it can get as far as the boot selector (hold alt at boot) screen, it won't cut out at that point, only sometimes after I wait a moment then select a boot option. This can sometimes happen 10 or 20 times in a row before it will eventually turn on and function normally.
Problem 2: Random power cut off, sometimes at idle, sometimes while browsing, or using any other app. I can't pin it on any one particular function. I know it's not a temperature problem, I have temp monitors on my menu bar and as far as I can see it's been fairly stable in that regard. Most of the time, I can power up the computer again but very occasionally it will revert to what I described in problem 1.
I have run the apple hardware test, with no errors being produced, and have had the local apple reseller/service centre take a look, with their tech reporting no issues. (He referred to something called ARD being run on a cycle of 20 or 30 times with nothing indicating a problem) I've taken off every non essential piece of hardware, tried with only the stock ram - and the newer ram to no avail of my issues. The only thing that I can still suspect myself is a power issue, however there is another PC in the room that has not had any issues what-so-ever.
Is there anything anyone could suggest I try to pinpoint this issue? It's sending me insane.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I found your post after dropping my G6 off at the Genius Bar - for precisely the same reasons. I've had this issue for the past 6 months on my (early) 2008 dual quad core. A month ago, the power supply entirely died and Apple replaced it. Now the same issue has returned and the computer restarts multiple times on boot up, at different points, sometimes as long as 15-20 minutes after booting up, when everything seems normal. At this point, two people at Apple have given me two different causes. 1) The person on the support phone said it has to be the power controller on the logic board. 2) The person who took in the Mac said it has to be the APS UPS (model ES 750) because the G6 has a 900 watt power supply and the UPS is only rated at 450 watts (750 volt amps). I had already thought of this as a possible cause and had purchased a power consumption indicator called Kill-A-Watt. Guess what? The G6 consumes at most 120 VA. In any case, the UPS fuse would have blown at overload. I don't feel like springing for a 1750 VA UPS unit just on the off chance that this might be the cause. This is also driving me up the wall. Additional info much appreciated if anybody cares to make educated guesses.
