Conectivity between BIW infocubes and Business Object (BO)

Hello everybody
I need to create some reports using BO that access to BIW infocubes.  Do you know if there is any direct conectivity or if it can be done using any other tool as ODBC or whatever?
Any documentation about this subject will be appreciate.
Regards, and thanks in advance, Inma

Hello,
There is direct connectivity to BW infocubes as well as to BW queries.
You can find some documentation at the following link:

  • Differences between an InfoCube and ODS object

    Hello All,
I am always hearing that an ODS overwrites data while a cube adds data loaded, and an ODS is a flat table etc.
Does anyone have a comprehensive document/article on how they differ so that I can be weary when doing data loads etc and be in a better position to not make a mistake when deleting data out of the targets etc, especially since financial data is so sensitive.
    Thank you and kind regards,
    Keith Kibuuka

    Hi Keith,
I found below data on another site..
The most important difference between ODS and BW is the existence of key fields in the ODS. In the ODS you can have up to 16 info objects as key fields. Any other info objects will either be added or overwritten! So if you have flat files and want to be able to upload them multiple times you should not load them directly into the info cube, otherwise you need to delete the old request before uploading a new one. There is the disadvantage that if you delete rows in the flat file the rows are not deleted in the ODS.
I also use ODS-Objects to upload control data for update or transfer routines. You can simply do a select on the ODS-Table /BIC/A<ODSName>00 to get the data.
ODS is used as an intermediate storage area of operational data for the data ware house . ODS contains high granular data . ODS are based on flat tables , resulting in simple modeling of ODS .
we can cleanse transform merge sort data to build staging tables that can later be used to populate INOFCUBE .
    Thanks
An infocube is a multidimentionsl dat acontainer used as a basis for analysis and reporting processing. The infocube is a fact table and their associated dimension tables in a star schema. It looks like a fact table appears in the middle of the graphic, along with several surrounding dimension tables. The central fact is usually very large, measured in gigabytes. it is the table from which you retrieve the interesting data. the size of the dimension tables amounts to only 1 to 5 percent of hte size of the fact table. common dimensions are unit & time etc. There are different type of infocubes in BW, such as basic infocubes, remote infocubes etc.
An ODS is a flat data container used for reporting and data cleansing/quality assurance purpose. They are not based on star schema and are used primaily for detail reporting rather than for dimensional analyais.
An infocube has a fact table, which contains his facts (key figures) and a relation to dimension tables. This means that an infocube exists of more than one table. These tables all relate to each other. This is also called the star scheme, because the dimension tables all relate to the fact table, which is the central point. A dimension is for example the customer dimension, which contains all data that is important for the customer.
An ODS is a flat structure. It is just one table that contains all data.
Most of the time you use an ODS for line item data. Then you aggregate this data to an infocube.
    cheers,
    Vishvesh

  • Difference between Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Business Objects XI R2

Can anyone please help me know the difference between Crystal Reports Server 2008 and Business Objects XI R2? Both the support guides says that it supports Office 2007. I have a problem in exporting the reports to Excel 2007 .I have downloaded the trial version of Crystal Reports Server 2008 but still unable to view my  complete reports in Excel 2007 through infoview because few of my report's colums are truncated and it still exports in Excel 2003.I have LiveOfficeXIR2_SP4 and Office 2007 installed. Is it so that i have to switch over to Business Objects XI R2 or any other to solve my problem instead of using Crystal Reports Server 2008 or is it the problem with the version of my Live office.Pls help me regarding this..

  • Difference between CR Server XI and Business Objects  Enterprise

Can anybody just tell me in brief what is the Difference between CR Server XI and Business Objects  Enterprise?

    Here's the brief summary:
CR Server is essentially Business Objects Enterprise with the following limitations:
    - Limited to a single server (no clustering)
    - Limited to a maximum of 4 CPUs
    - Limited to the Crystal Reports content type
    - Limited to a maximum of 20 Concurrent Users (or CAL - Concurrent Access License)
    - One CAL can service between 5 and 10 'real people' depending on your usage patterns.
    - No Web Intelligence
    - No Crystal Xcelsius
    - No Dashboarding
    - No Enterprise Performance Management
    - No Data Integrator
It is ideal for a departmental or a small company reporting server.  It includes
    - CAL licensing (BusinessObjects Enterprise doesn't)
    - One copy of CR Developer Edition for every 5 CAL purchased (Report designers are extra with BusinessObjects Enterprise)
    - Live Office for office integration
    - Sharepoint 2003 Portal Integration Kit
    - Web based report administration and consumption
    - Business Views Manager for semantic layer maintenance
I hope this helps - let me know if you have more questions.
    Thanks,

  • Infocubes and info objects

    Hi guys,
i'm new to BI. can any one differentiate between Infocubes and info objects..
    please be a bit specific.....

    Hi,
An InfoCube describes (from an analysis point of view) a self-contained dataset, for example, for a business-orientated area. You analyze this dataset in a BEx query.
An InfoCube is a set of relational tables arranged according to the star schema: A large fact table in the middle surrounded by several dimension tables.
    Use
InfoCubes are filled with data from one or more InfoSources or other InfoProviders. They are available as InfoProviders for analysis and reporting purposes.
    Structure
The data is stored physically in an InfoCube. It consists of a number of InfoObjects that are filled with data from staging. It has the structure of a star schema.
The real-time characteristic can be assigned to an InfoCube. Real-time InfoCubes are used differently to standard InfoCubes.
ODS versus Info-cubes in a typical project scenario
    ODS
    why we use ods?
why is psa  & ods nessasary
InfoObject: Basic building block of BW.. ( Its like a field )
    Definition
Business evaluation objects are known in BI as InfoObjects. They are divide into characteristics (for example, customers), key figures (for example, revenue), units (for example, currency, amount unit), time characteristics (for example, fiscal year) and technical characteristics (for example, request number).
    Use
InfoObjects are the smallest units of BI. Using InfoObjects, information is mapped in a structured form. This is required for constructing InfoProviders.
InfoObjects with attributes or texts can  themselves also be InfoProviders (if in a query).

  • BI-IP and Business Objects?

    Please refer to the thread:
    BI-IP and Business Objects?

    Ian,
reading through the messages, there seem to be a few questions that are raised.  After attending SAP Financials 2008, here is what I got from it:
    1. IP vs BPC:  IP is still in production and will be developed (no commitment on time though.  I was told somewhere between 18-24 months before it goes to maintenance mode).  There is some functionality difference from BPC and right now these are two separate products.  There is a talk of a possible integration in the "distant" future
    2. BPC is in process of being developed for BI, but currently it is only running on top of Microsoft SQL server. The BI version is slated to be released June 28th, but majority of the experts are fairly pessimistic about that date.
Now, the main question is what will happen to IP when BEx and BO tools converge into one - based on my understanding, we are going to see ADDITIONAL functionality.  Since all the WAD and Excel activities are based on BEx API's, it is highly unlikely that they are going to be dismissed in the new product.  The process in which we assign functions/commands to the planning model might change, but I think only for the best

  • Difference between Session Facade and Business Delegate design patterns

Can someone tell me the differences between Session Facade and Business Delegate design patterns

    1. Session Facade decouples client code from Entity beans introducing session bean as a middle layer while Business Delegate decouples client code from EJB layer ( Session beans).
    2. SF reduces network overhead while BD reduces maintenance overhead.
    3. In SF any change in Session bean would make client code change.
While in DB client is totally separate from Session bean because BD layer insulate client from Session beans(EJB layer).
    3. In only SF scenario, Client coder has to know about EJB programming but BD pattern no EJB specialization needed.
4.SF emphasizes on separation of Verb, Noun scenario while BD emphasizes on separation of client(presentable) and EJB layer.
Anybody pls suggest more differences ?

  • Difference between impelementation rules and business logc.

    Hi all,
Please tell me what is the exact difference between implementation rules and business logic? And more importantly when and where they should be used?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jayant Gupta

    Hi vasu,
from the point of view of possible transformation there are not differences.
The great difference is the following:
In Update Rules routines are defined for a single field for every key filed: for example you define the single routine for 0AMOUNT for every single Characteristic that define the key (0COSTCENTER - 0COSTELEMENT - ...). For every single DataField you can define a different routine also in terms of Key fields.
In transfer roules every routine is for every field without any kind of relation to the other fields.

  • Difference between Guided Procedures and Business Workflow?

    Hi,
I'm new to workflows, so this question could be easy or absurd.
Is there a difference between Guided Procedures and Business Workflows? Or is this
the same thing with two names?
If it is different, when do I use which of them?
    Could both use UWL?
    Thanks a lot
    greetz
    chris

Workflow is a technology used to support business processes. You can make workflows without thinking/doing business processes. When you do business processes you will always wind up using workflow technology. All business process execution tools should by principle use a workflow engine at least SAP ones do. Not sure about others like Oracle BPEL tools for example.
SAP tools like GP and BPM/XI use either Netweaver Java or Abap workflow embedding the technical aspects of workflow design and runtime into the Netweaver stack simplifying the business user experience as it relates to designing and running business processes. But designing and running workflows using workflow tools directly still is very muc an IT challenge.

  • Differences between DATA TYPE and DATA OBJECTS

I am new to ABAP,I want to know the differences between DATA TYPE and DATA OBJECTS with some examples.
    please help me regarding this.

    Hi Ashish,
    Data Types:       Are pure descriptions.
No memory is associated with data types.
Describes the technical properties of data objects.
    EX.
    1.     C-CHARACTER
    2.     D-DATE
    3.     F-FLOAT
    4.     I-INTEGER
    5.     N-NUMERIC TEXT
    6.     T-TIME
    7.     P-PACKED NUMBER
    8.     X-HEXADECIMAL
    9.     STRING-Variable length string.
    10.     XSTRING-Variable length byte string.
Data Objects: Are created during runtime.
They cannot exist without the data Types.
                    Occupies memory space.
    EX:
    1.     INTERNAL DATA OBJECT- Internal Data objects
         LITEERAL- A literal has a fixed value.Ex: WRITE:u201DWORK HARDu201D.
     VARIABLES: Data statement is used to create variables.
    EX.DATA: NUM TYPE I.
NUM: VARIABLE defined by data statement.
    EX: DATA: PRICE LIKE NUM.
     CONSTANT-It is a data object, which contains a constant value throughout the program.
Can be declared in program by using CONSTANT statement.
    EX:CONSTANT: INT TYPE I VALUE 15.
    2.     EXTERNAL DATA OBJECT: Are defined in tables i.e In ABAP/4 dictionary you can access this data from table.
             EX: TABLES: SFLIGHT
              DATA: SEATS LIKE SFLIGHT-SEATSMAX.
    3.     SYSTEM DEFINED DATA OBJECTS:Space & system variables like SY-UNAME,SY-DATUM, SY-REPID.
    4.     SPECIAL DATA  OBJECTS:
     PARAMETERS: Are Variables ,which can accept value from user.
      SELECTION SCREEN : Are special internal tables to accept value ranges from user.
3 APPROACHES TO DEFINE DATA OBJECTS.
    1.     ELEMENTARY TYPES
DATA: Customer _Name (25) TYPE C,
                   Vendor_Name (25) TYPE C.
    2.     REFRENCE TO AN EXISTING FIELD:
    DATA: Customer _Name2 (25) TYPE C,
                  Vendor_Name2 (25) LIKE Customer_Name2
    3.     REFRENCE TO NON-ELEMENTARY TYPE:
    TYPES: T_NAME (25) TYPE C
    DATA: CUSTOMER_NAME TYPE T_NAME
                   VENDOR_NAME  TYPE T_NAME
    4.     RECORD-Information in rows & columns.
    DATA: BEGIN OF BOOKING,
                                    ID (4) TYPE C,
                                    FLIGHT_DATE TYPE D,
                                    NAME LIKE CUSTOMER_NAME,
                                    END OF BOOKING.
You can also look into SAP help for more information.

Can you suggest me a documentation or similar explaining the pros and cons of this type integration, and possible problems we can occur on (if any).
another question is: is it possible upgrade SAP BI to 7.0 release maintaining Netweaver 2004, or the upgrade to Netweaver 2004s is required?
if this upgrade is required, it will affect also the ECC (from 5.00 o 6.00)?

  • How to transfer data between spreadsheets without using Business Objects?

Hello, every time I try and log onto the business objects platform I keep getting "this system can be contacted but there is no central management server running at port 6400".  All I need to do is pass variables between spreadsheets. Both files are located in the same folder. Below are the links ive tried but have been unsuccessful  to pass data.
(This link I used the swf loader component child and flash variables task Daya posted on Feb 15. However nothing loaded. The link wasnt a link i could display is in a browser. So i kept getting 0% when in preview mode.
Passing values from dashboard to dashboard with Flash Variables
Next I tried the following link. I did everything word for word and was able to display both files on the html page, but no link or connection between them existed. I would select a state and noting happened to the other swf files chart. Does this need to be in the Business Objects platform?
Dashboards 4.0: Connect to an external
Lastly , I used the link below. I followed everything and was able to get interaction from the parent to child however with only the files that were available on this thread. Their URL was this http://myxcelsius.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/child.swf?salesman=Schrute,Dwight. I get the concatenation but I dont get how this URL was generated? How do I develop my URL? My URL is able to display in a browser. My URL is
    http://kln-ftvp/KLNPheonix//LinkToReport.htm?fqn=MyEnterprise.Public.graphtest&run=true
SWF Loader shows 100% instead of Dashboard.
Even with my URL being able to display in internet explorer, I still only show 100% and a blank screen. Can anyone help me with any of the issues I am having trouble with? Your help is most appreciated. Thank you.

It looks like you have more than one problems so it might be good to separate them out.
Issue 1 - Logging on to BusinessObjects
You say that when you try log on to the BO Platform you get the error message there is no central management server running on port 6400. I'm assuming you are trying to do this from the Dashboard designer.
Does it work when you try to log on from the web browser?
Make sure that you enter the correct system name in the system field when trying to log on from Designer. If you are unsure, either check what system name is used when you log on from your browser or check with your BO administrator.
Issue 2 - Passing values to a child dashboard
If you try to preview the dashboard in the designer, remember that the swf loader doesn't work in preview mode, so whatever you are trying to display won't be visible.
First of all you need to have 2 separate flash files that works independently of each other. The one that you are planning to use as a child flash, make sure that you create the flash variables so you can pass variables to it and use them to filter your data if that is your requirement. But hold off on that for now.
When you have 2 working flash files, save them both to the BI Launch Pad (or InfoView if you are on 3.1) and make sure they both work there. Then get the opendocument url for the child dashboard and try to open it in your browser directly using this url. If that works, use the same url in the swf viewer in the parent dashboard, save the parent dashboard back to BI Launch Pad and open it. It should now work.
Let me know if you have any problems with these steps.
    Cheers,
    Josh
