Config Lab Description or online docs ?

Hi,
I'm looking for some general info on the Oracle config lab. A client has asked me to prepare a document on it but googling it provides nothing but some links to oracle papers ( that I need to have an Oracle support account ) or Oracle training links. Any help would be appreciated.

My experience with ConfigLab is that while it does provide value in some situations, it is difficult to use when maintaining several environments. We created a process to refresh ALL configuration / control tables from a master "gold" copy in one swipe. Think of ConfigLab as performing time intensive surgery on specific configuration settings and our process as a shotgun approach that destroys the original and completely replaces it very quickly. Our process basically exports all config tables from the source Config Master environment, truncates config tables in the target environment, imports config tables to the target environment, then updates environment specific settings in the database. The entire process takes about 20 minutes. It can take 20+ minutes to update just a few configuration settings using ConfigLab. The drawback to our technique was that it took us some time and several months for the table list and scripts to evolve into a solution that was suitable for go-live on CC&B 2.2. Overall, developing this process was well worth it. Not only did it save resource hours when using ConfigLab, it allowed the project team to test all of the latest updates in a more timely fashion, and it allowed the admin team to deliver fresh environments with the latest code and config MUCH more efficiently. We started developing this process as soon as CC&B 2.1 became available, and have maintained it for use with CC&B 2.2, and I intend to use it for our 2.3 upgrade. Oracle 8i online docs web pages not working in IE5.5?

Up until about a week ago, I was able to browse the online docs for Oracle 8i, using Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 on Windows 2000 SP2. Now, I am getting incomplete web page loads and/or pages that repeatedly reload themselves. I do not experience this problem browsing the same pages with Netscape 6.2 on the same PC. The only relevant change on my PC I can think of was application of Service Pack 2 to Internet Explorer 5.5.
An example URL is http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/server.817/a76965/c01intro.htm#12981 - this page loads only down to the section "Data Integrity". Other pages exhibit similar behaviour. I don't experience this problem using IE5.5 with any other Web sites.
I have tried clearing all cookies, cached files, etc. to no avail.
Any help or suggestion will be appreciated.

You need to follow below steps:
1) cd $JAVA_TOP
    2) zip -r customprod.zip. Where the list of all directory paths are present, relative to $JAVA_TOP, for custom application's java files at non-standard location.
    3) Generate & sign customprod.jar file.
Command: adjava oracle.apps.ad.jri.adjmx -areas $JAVA_TOP/customprod.zip -outputFile $JAVA_TOP/customprod.jar -jar $CONTEXT_NAME 1 CUST jarsigner -storePass -keyPass
    4) Delete temporary customprod.zip.
Command: rm $JAVA_TOP/customprod.zip
    5) Follow below steps to make the custom jar available for WebLogic
a) Take a back-up of existing /admin/template/ebsProductManifest_xml.tmp
b) Modify /admin/template/ebsProductManifest_xml.tmp to add entry for customprod.jar (after customall.jar)
c) Run AutoConfig
d) Bounce the Mid-tier services

Config Lab tool for Oracle CC&B Package

Hi,
Is there any configlab tool for Oracle CC&B package for confifuration management accross different environments. we can use VSS as version management for java codes and cobol codes in CC&B. But i am unable to identify any config lab tool for configuration management.

There is (unfortunately) no silver bullet for your requirement.

Implementations use variations and combinations of the 3 tools that are available, coupled with 3rd party migration tools (like vss). The strategy for an implementation's development-to-production life cycle will vary based on a multitude of factors. Skill set of the IT shop, what tools they are used to, internal audit procedures, etc.

I had download the online doc,whenever I search a keywords,it was redirect to the www..I wonder if I can search the keywords in local book tab?

This option is default I think. You can search offline like this.
Go to the top left corner of oracle documentation home.
Click on SEARCH.
On the right corner you will find MASTER INDEX.
On the MASTER INDEX you can do offline search.

This is typically the case where having the search feature working on local downloaded doc would be a nice feature, instead of going through internet for the search.

Reader 9- Cant seem to keep ' Choose paper by PDF Page Size' uncheck -online doc

We have been looking at this for a long time. If a certain posted doc gets printed and the Choose paper by PDF Page Size is checked, it breaks the users profile. We have made that change on the doc before posting it but users still have the issue. Also we have had users make the change locally but it doesnt 'keep' the setting.
Is there a way (GP or script) to force at the user session level?
This has been killing us for months. My searches didnt yield any solutions either....

In order to get help you need to provide more detail about your settings. Perhaps the margins for the paper size you have chosen have print margins that leave a smaller print area than you think. In combination with this is there some sort of "scale to fit" set somewhere?
So what size paper are you printing to, and what is your document page size in Acrobat 7? I have the same printer and may be able to help if you provide more detail.

Config Lab doubts

Hi all.
I'm currently working with CC&B V2.2.0.
I've been trying to understand the ConfigLab tool in order to have an idea of its uses and potentials.
I've read the online help as well as some presentations regarding ConfigLab.
I've already created some DB processes that allowed to pass Maintenance Objects (metadata) from one environment to another.
My questions is this.
Suppose I create in environment DEV a custom Maintenance object and all its related entities (table, table fields, constraints, etc).
Besides creating the related metadata in CC&B I also create the corresponing tables and constraints on the database.
In dev, this custom table is populated with a set of data.
Now I want to pass this custom development to a QA environment (or another DEV environment).
I extract the DDL from the DEV database and execute it in the new environment.
I use a DB process to pass the metadata from the maintenance object (and respective table, fields, etc) to the new environment.
My question relies in the data itself.
Now that I have all Metadata in both environments and that both databases have the table and constraints, I want to pass
data from one environment to the other.
Is this possible or it can only be done trough a SQL script?
I've gone trough the documentation and I found references to pushing data from one environment to another but I'm not sure
if it's meaning Data in the database or the Metadata from CC&B?
If this is possible where can I get an example, because I haven't been able so far to do this.

This is possible. There are a set of DB processes supplied with ConfigLab that copies the MO's and DB processes from one environment to another. To prove this, think of this scenario. ConfigLab is an optional component though most customers use it. When you create an initial install of CC&B, the database does not contain all the DB process and meta data necessary for ConfigLab. To do this you:
1) Register the supporting environment in the supported environment.
2) Run the initial DB process job provided in the initial database to pull the rest of the definitions into the supported environment.
Typically you use this technique to "pinch" data from our predefined "gold/demo" environment. If you like a component provided by the product, you use configlab to copy it across.
There is a step by step guide to this provided on Metalink id 559880.1 - "Oracle Utilities Customer Care & Billing ConfigLab Design Guidelines" under "Cheat Sheet: Priming an Environment".

Converting online doc

Does anyone know how I can convert an online form to PDF . When I click on convert on the left the box comes up for Adobe but it says select file and I do not have one?

just performs a conversion, and then gives it some basic privileges
according to your acrobat.com account, and how you will be
sharing/collaborating with Acrobat.com online.
Once the PDF has been created, you can download it, and give
it any security settings you'd like to, using Acrobat Professional.

To choose generic-searchbackend-config.xml Base on your XCM scenario is difficult to implement. But there is a easy way you can select which value should come in drop down box of Document Type base on your scenario.
Do as follow.
Import UsersessionData and ConfigContainer in genericsearch.jsp file.

PIX 501 config - access to internal network not working from remote VPN users - everything on the inside is OK

One other thing - I had a problem with the key pairing so I rebuilt the rsa 1024 and the unit started working. Unfortunately I reloaded without the config in place and now I cannot get it to work again. Any help will be greatly apprecaited although I did review a dozen other posts of people having similar problems and for some reason there is never any conclusion as to the solution and I am not sure why.
Some other info from the client end:
I just ran the stats on the client and packets are being encrypted BUT none are decrypted.
Also Tunnel received 0 and sent 115119
Encryption is 168-bit 3-DES
Authentication is HMAC-SHA1
also even though the allow LAN is selected in the Cisco VPN client it states the local LAN is disabled in the client stats
also Transparent tunneling is selcted but in the stats it states it is inactive
I am connecting with the Cisco VPN Client Ver 5.0.07.0440
This config works. It is on the internal net 192.168..40.x and all users obtain dhcp and surf the web. It has required ports opened.The problem is that you can connect remotely via the VPN and you receive an IP address from the remote-vpn pool but you cannot see any machines on the internal network. The pix is at 40.2 and you cannot ping the pix and the pix from the remote PC connecting via the VPN and youcannot ping the remote PC from the PIX console when the remote is connected and receives the first IP address in the VPN pool of 192.168.40.25
I need to see the internal network and map network drives. I have another friend that is running the same config and it works but his computer is on a linksys wireless and has an IP of 192.168.1.x and the IP he receives from the VPN pool is 192.168.1.25 so I do not know if the same network is allowing this config to work even if there is an error in the config. In my present case I obtain the ip of 192.168.40.25 from the VPN pool and my connecting pc on 192.168.1.x I really am not sure how the VPN virtual adapter works. I am assuming it routes all traffic from your connecting PC to and from the virtual adapater but I really do not know for sure.
Other people have had similar issues with accessing the internal network from the VPN. One solution was the split-tunnel, another was the natting and another had to do with the encrption where there and an issue with the encrypt and ecrypt which was stopping the communicaton via the VPN.
I still cannot seem to find the issue with this config and any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have been searching docs and other people's postings trying to obtain the info to make this work. It appears pretty much boiler plate but I believe my problem is in the natting. I am using a range in the internal network for the VPN pool and I have tried switching this to other networks but this has not helped. Unfortunately I have been unable to get the PDM to work and I believe this is a PC config thing and I did not want to waste the time on it. I read a post where a person using the PDM interface with the same problem (not being able to access the internal network) was able to go to a section in the VPN wizard and set the Address Exeption Translation. They said they originally set the VPN subnet when they did not have to. Many of the other blogs I read also stated that if the natting is not proper for the VPN pool- that it will not work but I am confused by the examples. They show as I do the complete range for an access-list called no_nat_inside but I believe it should only have the VPN pool IP range and not the entire network since the others do require natting - not sure if my thought process is correct here. Any help will be greatly apprecaited. Also this morning I just tried a boiler plate example from CISCO and it also did not do what I need for it to do. And I also connect a PC to obtain an IP to see if I can see it - no good. The PC can ping the PIX and viceversa but no one can ping the remote PC that connects via the CISCO Remote VPN client even though it receive an address from the vpnpool. Also include LAN is checked off on the client. This was mentioned in anther post.

PIX501 is a very very old Cisco firewall that has not been sold for a long time to my understanding. It also doesnt support even close to new software levels.
If you wanted to replace the PIX501 the corresponding model nowadays would be ASA5505 which is the smallest Cisco ASA firewall with 8 switch port module. There is already a new ASA5500-X Series (while ASA5505 is of the original ASA 5500 Series) but they have not yet introduced a replacing model for this model nor have they stopped selling this unit. I have a couple of them at home. Though naturally they are more expensive than your usual consumer firewalls.
But if you wanted to replace your PIX firewall then I would probably suggest ASA5505. Naturally you could get some other models too but the cost naturally rises even more. I am not sure at what price these are sold as used.
I used some PIX501 firewalls at the start of my career but have not used them in ages since ASA5505 is pretty much the firewall model we use when we need a firewall/vpn device for a smaller network/branch site.

I am afraid that its very hard for me atleast to troubleshoot this especially since I have not seen any outputs yet. Also the very old CLI and lack of GUI (?) make it harder to see what the problem is.

I am new to this site though I have cisco account for many years. I am a CCNA ,I passed my certification on January 2013 I seldom use and utilized my skills on networking becuase of my type of work. I am Project Eng'r working in a System integrator company . Anyway, I would like to ask assistance on the configurations of my Cisco router for this gov't projects.. Here's the situation.
We have a new project for the VSAT Comm'n of Coast Watch Station , The VSAT was installed 7 years ago. The VSAT was only used for a year by this Gov't agency because of subscription issue. Now, they wants to revive and use their VSAT facilities for the Coast watch monitoring. Now, some of this routers are working up to now and for some site are already defective so I need to replace the old 2801 router with a new equivalent model which is Cisco 2901. My plan was just to load the old config into the new Cisco 2901 router. However, after loading it to the new router, I am a little worried because I've got some errors received. I load the old config by copying the old files, edit it in notepad, and load the config using Secure CRT (terminal emulator). When I copy the old config of cisco 2801 to new router cisco 2901 , below are the command not recognized on Cisco 2901. What's wrong ? What are these commands for?

The Modem Management Interface (MMI) is software that enables auto-provisioning for the Cisco 827 routers. The MMI uses a fixed PVC to communicate with the Proxy Element (PE) residing on the digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM). Using MMI, the Cisco 827 router updates the running image and downloads the prescribed configuration using a configuration file or configuration values in a provisioning information database.
The customer premise equipment (CPE) can be automatically configured using the Cisco DSL CPE download, but it can be configured only with the image provisioning feature.
So because this is your device, you don't want to use MMI anyways.
And "priority-list" is QoS. Probably that QoS-command is old and removed, because now QoS is configured using class-maps and policy-maps.
