Configd seckeychainfindgenericpassword

I cannot boot my OS without receiving a kernel panic. After booting in single user mode I am reasonably sure that the error occurs at the following stage:
feb 25 13:42:01 username configd[48]: seckeychainfindgenericpassword err= -25300 (=0xffff9d24, secerr= user interaction is not allowed.) (current = network name)
How can this issue be resolved?
I've already repaired the disk, permissions and I have sufficient space on my HD to boot.

Another thread here put me on the right track
The problem went along with another one: when opening the airport settings, I was asked to allow keychain access - everytime, even after I allowed "always".
The system.log read
/Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/MacOS/System Preferences: Couldn't create temp file /Library/Keychains/~VmKWSyY3Aa91fkWO: Permission denied
The cause: I (admin user) had no write permission on the system keychain's directory.
The fix:
sudo chmod g+w /Library/Keychain
logout, login
Then I opened the airport preferences again and "always allow"ed. Now it was stored and I wasn't asked again.
It seems, that is has at least partially cured the problem. Now the VPN connection is not interrupted after just 3 minutes or so, but after a longer idle period - which is probably a desired behaviour (I'll investigate into that).

  • Itunes update 10.4(80) causing problems with MDNSresponder, configd, and KRB5KDC.

I am a relatively new mac user and have no idea how to procede here. I would be grateful for any help. Here's the story:
Last week I updated my itunes like a good boy when prompted. I am not certain, but there may have been a mac os10 update along with it. I always look at the details of what the update is, except of course this time. When the update finished, the macbook wanted to reboot and I let it. However, when the computer started up, I began to see wierd dialouge boxes asking me if I wanted to run KRB5KDC, then MDNSresponder, and configd. I ticked no to all, and discovered I could not connect to the internet or my NAS. I then I got on my PC and looked these up discovered what they were and rebooted the mac, this time ticking yes. At this point my mac told me it could no longer keep automatic time and asked if I wanted to set the clock manuallly, so of course I said yes and did. That solved my connectivity issues but here are the ones that remain:
    1) I can no longer accept secure certificates from websites... safari tells me they have expired or not to be trusted when I know for a fact that is not true. How can I be sure of any other websites?
    2) My macbook pro can no longer keep the correct time and date. It seems whenever I go into sleep mode a new time and date appears when the machine awakes.
    3) All of my iCal info has been errased when I last synched. I discovered that yesterday, thus prompting me to post. I can't have that. Thankfully all the information was retained on the macbook's drive.
    4) Are there any other issues I may not have discovered yet?
Just for added info I am running OS X 10.6.8 (10K549) on a 2.66 intel coreduo with 4 gigs of ram
I know this is rambling but I just don't have the proper technichal vocabulary to describe my problems any better.

    John,
Even i am facing the same exact problem the way you are facing, but i thought my net is having problem so i changed the net also. Now it seems that Apple has problem with this version. If you find any solution kindly mail me on [email protected] I would appreciate your help for the same.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Disabling dashboardadvisoryd and configd

    Hello.
I've seen different posts regarding the subject but have yet to find a solution. I don't want to get into a political debate over "phoning home", spyware, Apple's policies, etc. I just want to know how I can disable dashboardadvisoryd from interrupting my recording sessions. I am fed up with it trying to connect to Apple when I'm working. I've seen a couple of scripts to disable it online but some people seem to have problems with those.
Is there a quick and easy way I can disable dashboardadvisoryd permanently? What about "configd?" That's another I would like to make inactive (at LEAST, while I'm recording).
Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

OK, try this. You will need to be logged in to an account with admin privileges.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
    sudo -s
    cd /etc/mach_init.d
    cp -p dashboardadvisoryd.plist dashboardadvisoryd.plist.orig
defaults write /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd Disabled -boolean YES
exitWhen you first press return, you will be prompted for your password. This is not echoed for security reasons: just type it and press return.
If you haven't used 'sudo' before, you will receive a little lecture before being prompted for the password. Read it and continue, but be careful, because you are now root until the exit command (the prompt will change to end with a '#').
This may require a restart to take effect.
I hope Apple introduce a GUI way of doing this in the next release!

  • Inetd svc.configd hogging cpu

I'm running a tcp proxy for pop/imap on a v210 with solaris 10 and zones.
The tcp proxy accepts connections on ports 110 and 143, does some datbase lookups on other servers and then forwards the connection to the appropriate servers.
The tcp proxy is running under inetd inetconv'd to smf. Everything runs fine until the connection rate reaches aproximately 25 connections/second.
When this rate is reached cpu is 100% busy (about 50% user and 50% sys). Dtrace shows that svc.configd is very busy doing llseek calls.
I tried to increase stack and heap page sizes (in /etc/default/init) to 4M. This resulted in cpu loads of 30%user 70 %sys, but still 100% total.
The tcp proxy processes are ver short-llived so it seems configd is hogging the cpu to keep up with the state of the procsses.
Is there any way to tell configd not to keep up with these processes, or alternatively to tune the system to increase configd's performance?
I want to reach a connection rate of about 60-80 connections/second.
    Leo.

    I'm trying a workaround now:
    adding
    <property_group name='startd' type='framework'>
    <propval name='duration' type='astring' value='transient' />
    </property_group>
to inetd's and the service's manifest seems to improve performance. The cpu load doesn't get up to 100% anymore, though still high (about 50% total). Awkwardly the setting doesn't show up in svcprop, but behaviour is definitely better.
    Leo.

  • Configd and SystemUIServer hogging CPU

    Hello all:
I have been setting up my new computer (so the system is virtually as shipped) and I have some strange situation going on. configd and SystemUIServer keep pulsing every minute or so and hog about 25% of the CPU each for bursts lasting up to a minute or so. My Airport connection works, but I have had some trouble to get the system to connect to my closed and password protected network by default. I often have to reenter the network name and password.
I have tried erasing the network password from the system keychain and reentering it on the preferred network panel of System preferences. I have also trashed the SystemConfiguration folder and reset the network settings, but the problem persists.
If I turn the Airport off, the problem naturally goes away. Also, it seems to go away if I connect to my neighbor's very weak signal and open network.
Is it possible that there may be an issue with my network configuration (Airport Extreme settings)? However, my older PPC macs do not complain at all.
I am really stumped. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Juan-Pablo

Chances are a launch daemon is trying to start and keeps dying, so it is launch again, and again, and again, ....
The Console should show the logs where you should see a repeating log entry for the failing daemon or launch agent.

  • Configd overwrites DNS and routing from OpenVPN

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere. I've looked and found no definitive answers.
    Problem:
OpenVPN creates a tunnel on a virtual network interface tap0 which is configured via DHCP. Once up a script is called to update the routing tables and set DNS. On linux and windows this works and is very stable because static routing configurations are employed. On Mac OS X v10.6 routing configurations are dynamic and managed by configd. Once the virtual interface comes up the routing tables and DNS can be changed, but after a short while, configd will come along and change the routing and DNS configurations and break the VPN.
This is covered in some detail in this article.
    http://www.afp548.com/article.php?story=20041015131913324
Question: How to write the DNS and routing entries into preferences at the time OpenVPN comes up so that they will persist when configd updates the system?
    Details:

    3. Then something will trigger configd to update the DNS or routing tables, the only evidence of which I have been able to find is the following message in the system.log

    4. And either the DNS or routing tables will be changed e.g.

The question is what event is causing configd to change configurations.
In general, this will only occur if an interface goes down or if a DHCP address needs to be renewed.

  • Hostname keep alternating (configd related)

While Console was open (for some reason not related), I keep seeing that the hostname of my machine is alternating betweent "FMj" and "FMj.local" (please view log sample below). Is this normal behavior? If not, how can I fix this? I tried going in System Preferences > Sharing and renaming the computer name to "FMj.local" (no quotes); it was "FMj" before. Didn't solved it.
Log sample (before I changed the name):
Mar 21 18:14:28 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj"
    Mar 21 18:15:08 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj.local"
Mar 21 18:15:21 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj"
    Mar 21 18:16:04 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj.local"
Mar 21 18:16:17 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj"
    (you get the idea)
    After I changed the name:
    Mar 21 18:35:09 FMj-local configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj-local.local"
Mar 21 18:35:20 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj"
    Mar 21 18:36:02 FMj-local configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj-local.local"
Mar 21 18:36:16 FMj configd[14]: setting hostname to "FMj"
I noticed it now took the FMj.local I inputted and considered it as the name, changing the dash for a period and then appending .local. It's still doing this and has been doing this since forever (as early as when I opened a log for the first time, months ago). Multiple rebooting in between occured.

This is happening to me, too, except mine is alternating between the correct name and 'gmail'. In the System Preferences, the name of the computer and what the computer believes the network name to be is absolutely correct. In Terminal, though, uname -n returns 'gmail'.
I do have Gmail POP3 set up through Mail, and once in the Console logs it even shows changing the hostname to the mail server for my ISP! I have no idea why it would suddenly start to try to take information from my Mail program and put it into the hostname.
My logs only go back as far as the 12th of April. It seems to have started on the 15th, and it seems to change once a day.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated...

  • Connection timeout on hotel wifi - only with MacBook8.1 (810.9)  configd plug-in:8.1 (810.9)

I'm having a "Connection Timeout" issue while trying to connect to my hotel's WIFI.
I bought an ex-lease refurbished white MacBook (Build 12E55 - 2.4GHz, the last 2010 model I think) a couple of weeks ago. I bought it so I could use it while on vacation in Bali, Indonesia. I've got OS X 10..8.4 installed.
At home in Australia, this MacBook connected to my home WIFI with absolutely no issues at all.
Now that I'm in Bali, I'm surprised to find that every time I try to connect to the WIFI at the hotel (where I'm staying for a whole month), I get a "Connection Timeout" error. I'm surprised because my iPhone connects to the hotel WIFI with no problem at all, as does our two iPads and the Android phones that belong to other family members. It's only my MacBook that struggles, even though I get even better signal strength indicated on my MacBook compared to my other devices.
I can connect my MacBook to my iPhone hotspot fine, though I'd prefer to use the free hotel WIFI over my very small 3G data allowance.
So the problem isn't that my MacBook can't connect to any WIFI, because it did at home and it still can to my iPhone hotspot.
And the problem isn't with the router, because all other devices work flawlessly.
I've trawled many forums and articles trying to find a solution. Here's everything I've tried already, that I can remember. (Not in this order and not all at once.)
    Rebooted MacBook (duh)
Sitting directly under the WIFI router. (It's not a signal strength issue.)
Set up new Network > Location. Deleted Ethernet and Bluetooth PAN so it's just WIFI in the list.
    Renewed DHCP Lease countless times.
Tried manual TCP/IP variations. It doesn't help that I'm not sure what to put in the IPv4 Address field. I do know the Subnet Mask and Router IP from looking at my iPhone network info.
Tried using my MAC address as the DHCP Client ID. Also tried just using "1" or leaving it blank.
I don't know what an IPv6 is either.
Tried BootP and completely Manual setups but not really sure of the correct settings to try.
Tried using the DNS servers that I found on my iPhone network info for the hotel WIFI. (One of them is 8.8.8.8 which I think is Google's DNS thing?)
Tried checking Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP Mode, since it was suggested as part of a solution in a forum thread.
Tried changing the MTU to a couple of other settings from an article I read. I think one was around 1453 and the other was 1494 or something close to that.
    Tried resetting PRAM
    Tried resetting SMC
Tried a variation on resetting SMC that involved pressing down the normal keys plus one extra, for 10 secs, since it worked for someone who was told to do that by an Apple Care person. (He didn't know why it worked and other forum posters thought it was supposed to have been a SMC reset.)
Checked the Network> Wi-Fi in System Information to see if the Channel is compatible. The router uses Channel 1 and my MacBook is capable of using Channel 1.
Checked my country profile. It's X1. I have no idea if that's good. All I know is that I'm in Indonesia not Australia and I'm having WIFI issues with this hotel network.
Checked the PHY Mode. Supported are 802.11 a/b/g/n. The hotel router uses 802.11n.
Made sure I was using WPA2 Personal.
Tried deleting all WIFI-related passwords in Keychain.
Tried deleting all Network-related preference files.
Tried removing all LaunchDaemons and LaunchAgents.
It's not a "lost WIFI connection when waking from sleep" issue but I tried turning off sleep anyway.
My husband even had the nerve to unplug the hotel router (small hotel, we're the only guests at the moment) for 10 minutes hoping it will reboot. But I don't know if that's the actual modem or just a WIFI repeater thing (sorry, can't remember the right terms). It didn't work anyway.
I've run out of options, other than just sucking it up and getting a big 3G data allowance since I'm here for a month.
If there is anything else I can try - perhaps working out how to set up my Network manually properly, please help me out. Here is everything in System Information that might help. I'll happily provide any other info.
    Software Versions:
      CoreWLAN:

Sorry. The topic title got mucked up when I tried to paste in my System Information. And I can't paste it in using my iPhone without it going haywire. I can provide any details you need.

  • Error from SecKeychainFindGenericPassword: -2147415734

I have had this issue for over one and a half year now.
Basically, I can't get my Airport to automatically connect to a wep-protected network and in the system log I find the message within subject.
Same applies to iChat, I have to retype again and again the password every time I connect.
(the network is created with a Airport Express AP)
Every other computer I have with Tiger installed works fine but this one.
It's not vital, nor functional, yet real annoying.
If I re-install the system with "archive and install" it works fine till I import all my data from the old installation with migration assistant and than I am stuck again.
It looks like a preferences/setup issue but haven't been able to fix this in a long time.
I have done everything I could possibly think of (resetting, restoring, erasing and so on) with the Keychain but no luck.
It's also described in this old thread.
Must be something very basic nevertheless, hard to detect and fix.
Any fresh ideas before we all move to Leopard?

  • How do I analyze Console's description of crashes?

Since I upgraded to system 10.4.7 I have experienced frequent crashes. Thanks to DisK Warrior I have been able to recuperate, but crashes are happening with some regularity (every week at least once). I can't figure out the reason.
Here is a copy of the system log in console. Can anyone decipher it for me? Thanks!!

Start with http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html, assuming that you're talking about system crashes. If it's application crashes, then launch Console, click on the Log List, and select ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/, that's where application crash reports are stored.
I did notice some ATS-type comments which might indicate a font conclict. Launch Font Book, select all fonts from the left-hand pane, click in the Font pane, select all, and then select validate fonts from the File menu. Resolve any errors or warnings.

  • QuickTime 7.6 upgrade for Tiger breaks system

I am also having problems on Tiger (10.4.11) after upgrading to QuickTime 7.6. Upon reboot after the install completed, I wind up with the login prompt on the console (not the login window, but a true unix login prompt). Logging in and dumping the last portion of /var/log/system.log reveals:

As you can see, I believe there are two errors. The first is the loginwindow error:

Googling brought up a possible solution whose work around seems to be
    discussed here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1102633
However, the main problem seems to be (perhaps?) a carbon related issue. I am seeing any applications that make use of the Carbon framework seem to be failing.
As you can see from the system.log excerpt, ifcstart is crashing. The crash log contains:

I am also seeing SecurityAgent crash in a similar manner.
Without a UI (only a shell prompt) how do I back out the QuickTime upgrade?

I tried that and it did not work.  The paid functions are still grayed out.
    There are three possibilities here:
    1) The QT 7 Pro is not activated. In this case, the registration window will not display the QT logo with the word "Pro" superimposed on it, the phrase "QuickTime 7 Pro" will not be displayed below the "Registration Code:" entry, and the "Buy" button will not disappear. (I.e., I assume your version should look something like this if the code is accepted...)
    2) You don't have a movie clip loaded. Unless you load a movie, most of the QT 7 Pro features will be grayed out since their functions are often contextual and, therefore, dependent on the data loaded. Additionally, the file loaded must be QT compression and/or edit compatible. For instance, if you try to trim an MPEG-1 video, the associated controls/options are grayed out because QT recognizes that this compression format is not editable at the frame level.
    3) Your QT 7 Player application is corrupted/broken for some reason. In this case you would likely have to "extract" a copy of the player and replace the app in your Applications folder. However, this is a very rare chance of happening.
So, at this point you must determine which specific problem you have.

  • No sleep 'til Brooklyn - Any idea what these Console errors mean?

Hi all - elsewhere on this board, I had responded to someone having problems with his Mac not going to sleep. I'm getting similar symptoms with my G5 tower, in the timeframe of the last week or so (around the time of OS X, Security, various other updates?) I also added a Seagate eSATA drive this last week.
Over the past couple of days, I've tried a couple of things:
    1) unmounted and physically removed the eSATA drive - no change, G5 still won't sleep.
    2) change the energy saver settings to 1 minute - no change, G5 still won't sleep
    3) zapped the PRAM, fixed permissions, ran the whole thing through a TechTools Pro work-up - no change, G5 still won't sleep
As a last step, I cleared the console and captured what it's showing from the moment I hit sleep to when it's awake again (given that the main drive kept on whirring all the time) Here is what it shows:

So, I'm left with a sneaking suspicion that it's something to do with that line about the generic keychain password, although having "." claim my computer is weird!
Does any of this make any sense to anyone reading this? I'm going to cross-post on the G5 board just in case.
    Peace,
    Vince
