ConfigMgr 2012 Distribution Point - adjust drive reserve space after installation

When installing a SCCM 2012 DP, we get the option for drive settings where you can set the drive reserve space - pretty straight forward. However I can't seem to find where to re-configure this after it is initially configured. Any ideas? I don't
really want to remove and re-add the DP role just so I can adjust that setting!

Sorry, but I can't find it.  I've installed a DP with a random reserve number in hopes that I'd find it in the registry, but no such luck.  Hopefully, someone else has an answer.

  • Internet Information Services (IIS) becomes Disabled automatically on SCCM 2012 Distribution Points

    Hi !
Internet Information Services (IIS) is getting Disabled automatically on all of our SCCM 2012 Distribution Points.
Please help and share configuration steps.
    Thank you.

This is not anything ConfigMgr is doing. The cases I've seen similar to this have had a GPO responsible for this behavior from which the site systems needed to be excluded.

That's not something ConfigMgr does. Examine eventlog and see if there are GPOs or whatever is disabling it.

  • SCCM 2012 distribution point install failes with faild to verify disk drive

I am trying to install remote distribution point on new Windows Server 2012 standard but getting failures. here is the code:
Failed to find a valid drive on the distribution point
Failed to install DP files on the remote DP. Error code = 15
I can created files and folder manually on the server fine on the drive specified during the deployment wizard. I need to know what process SCCM 2012 goes through to verify a disk drive for usage as a remote distribution point

    Hi,
Did you ever get this fixed?
    In my case, it's a physical server with a 2x 500GB in RAID1.
Server OS is 2012. SCCM Version is 2012 SP1 cu2
The disk has been partitioned into 2 logical drives: C-Drive and D-drive
    The distmgr.log states:
failed to find a valid drive on the Distribution Point
Failed to install DP Files on the remote DP. Error Code = 15
Drive D: is not valid. Error = 15
Do you have any ideas of how SCCM evaluates drives to be correct?
I've ran a WMI Query and the partition shows as a Local Hard Disk.
Do you have any more ideas what I can check?
    Thanks!

  • SCCM 2012 Distribution Point without IIS

Hello. My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1. I need to set up distribution points on several Windows Server 2003 machines. These machines have certain security requirements. One of which is no IIS. In SCCM 2007, I was able to create DPs without installing IIS.
This prevented the use of BITS extensions but was acceptable. I cannot seemed to do the same with SCCM 2012.
As a test, I performed three steps to test a DP without IIS on a Windows Server 2003 machine 1) Made the primary server a local administrator on the Windows Server 2003 machine, 2) Installed RDC using the msrdcoob_x86.exe file, 3) in the admin console, I
created a new site system server with the distribution point role. I did not check allow it to install IIS to install/configure during the setup. The distribution point reports a successful installation status but I get three errors when I try to distribute
a package. The first error message is Failed to create virtual directory on the defined share or volume of the distribution point. The second error is Distribution Manager failed to connect the the distribution point. The third error is Distribution Manager
failed to process package "Package Name". I know that installing IIS with BITS extensions and WebDav support would fix this problem. However, I would like to use the DP without IIS like I did in SCCM 2007.
Looking at the supported configurations, I see the below. This leads me to below that it is possible. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, what I am missing in my steps.
With System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, the distribution point site system role does not require Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). When BITS is configured on the distribution point computer, BITS on the distribution
point computer is not used to facilitate the download of content by clients that use BITS

BITS is a client side technology and has nothing to do with the server side of a DP or IIS and thus is irrelevant.
WebDAV was built into the relevant components of ConfigMgr obviating the need for the Windows Server WebDAV component so that's not needed for 2012 at all and thus N/A.
Ultimately, no, this is not possible. IIS is required on a DP in ConfigMgr 2012. This is clearly listed at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SiteSystemRolePrereqs.

  • QUERY TO FIND FREE DISKSPACE IN SCCM 2012 DISTRIBUTION POINT

this is the query to get free disk space on distribution point ,but this is not working for sccm 2012 ,please help
    Select
    Distinct
    SD
    .Name0,
    SR
    .RoleName,
    LD
    .DeviceID0,
    LD
    .FreeSpace0
    * 100
    /  LD.Size0
    'Free Disk Space'
    From
    v_R_System SD
    Join
    v_Gs_Logical_Disk LD on SD.ResourceId
    = LD.ResourceId
    Join
    v_SystemResourceList SR on SD.Netbios_Name0
    = SR.ServerName
    Where
    LD.DriveType0
    = 3
    and
    SR.RoleName
    =
    'SMS Distribution Point'
    ankith

    you're probably getting 0 rows...
v_SystemResourceList.ServerName contains the netbios+domain name, while v_Gs_Logical_Disk.Netbios_Name0 only contains the netbios name (no domain), therefore the join doesn't find any matching rows...
    You need to trim the domain name from the field {LEFT(SRL.ServerName,CHARINDEX('.', SRL.ServerName)-1)}
    try this query instead:
    SELECT DISTINCT
    SYS.Name0 As 'Device'
    ,SRL.RoleName As 'Role'
    ,LD.DeviceID0 As 'Disk',LD.FreeSpace0,LD.Size0
    ,LD.FreeSpace0 * 100 / LD.Size0 As 'Free Disk Space'
    FROM
    v_R_System As SYS
    Join v_Gs_Logical_Disk As LD on SYS.ResourceId = LD.ResourceId
    Join v_SystemResourceList As SRL on SYS.Netbios_Name0 = LEFT(SRL.ServerName,CHARINDEX('.', SRL.ServerName)-1)
    WHERE
    LD.DriveType0 = 3
And SRL.RoleName = 'SMS Distribution Point'
Additionally, if you notice that the LD.FreeSpace0 field returns NULL, you need to enable the hardware Inventory collection of this information [ client settings > hardware inventory > Logical Disk (SMS_LogicalDisk) > Free Space (MB) ]... Then initiate
the hardware Inventory cycle action and it should show results...
I don't have this field inventoried, so I cannot confirm the accuracy of the query...

  • SCCM 2012 Distribution Point in workgroup

I am trying to install a SCCM 2012 SP1 DP on a Windows 2008 workgroup server.
Some parts are working but during installation I get errors....
The question is: is it supported what I am trying to do, a workgroup (not part of a domain) server using as DP in SCCM 2012 SP1 ?

Distribution Points must be domain members
    http://eskonr.com/2013/08/sccm-configmgr-2012-manage-workgroup-computers-for-deploymentremote-tools-etc/
You can manage workgroup clients though.

  • SCCM 2012 Distribution Point not working properly on a Windows 2012 Server

I have an SCCM SP1 site running on a Server 2008 R2 machine.  I had a couple of distribution points, also running on 2008 machines.  These served as DPs and PXE boot points.  I had no problems with these.
I resently added a Server 2012 machine, and set it up as a DP, with a PXE boot point.  The servers is part of a boundary group containing about 1500 clients.  I distributed all of packages that are included in my main task sequence, and am able
to PXE boot, and image machines successfully.
However, I am having problems deploying other packages and Windows update packages from this DP.  It seems like I am only able to deploy packages that have the "Copy the content in the package to a package share on distribution points" enabled.
If this is not enabled, the client will get the deployment policy, but will never download the package.  The "In Progress" tab for the deployment status will just say "Waiting for content".
I have checked the rereqs for IIS on the Server 2012 DP, also checked the firewall.  Everything that I see seems to be OK.  Are there other things that I can check to determine why this DP isn't working right?

    Hello,
According to the following description, this behavior would be normal:
If you configured the option Run program from distribution point on the
Distribution Points page of the Deploy Software Wizard, do not clear the option
Copy the content in this package to a package share on distribution points, because this will make the package unavailable to run from distribution points.

The report server service is not running on Reporting Service Point server "XXXXXXXXXXX"; start the service to enable reporting.
We have stopped and restarted the SQL 2012 reporting service point with no errors. What else should we look at for this error? And are these related?
    Thanks,

  • SCCM 2012 Distribution Point server in a workgroup as well as the clients

    HI,
It is possible to have a distribution point set up by SCCM 2012 R2 which resides in a workgroup to manage workgroup users.
Basically, SCCM 2012 R2 is setup within a domain and a forest, The clients in the workgroup resides in a DMZ. The server in the DMZ is also within the workgroup.
For some reasons, at this time, it is not possible to add the server to the Active Directory to push it the distribution point role and therefore managing thoses clients within the workgroup.
Is there a way to set up the distribution point role to a server in a workgroup?
    Thank you

  • Server 2012 Distribution Point - Is BITS Required ?

    Hi All,
I have deployed a Distribution Point on Server 2012, i went through the documentation and there was no mention of BITS being a prerequsite...
So my Question is - Do we still need to install BITS as a prereq for the Distribution Point Role on a Server 2012 box.
    Cheers

There still seems to be some contradictions on whether you are supposed to install BITS or not when setting up a Distribution Point.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712264.aspx under the section
"To install Internet Information Services (IIS) on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 computers"
clearly shows for Windows Server 2008 R2, select the
Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) check box.
If you look at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SiteSystemRolePrereqs under the Distribution Point prerequisites, there
is no mention of installing BITS unless we are to assume the statement "You can use the default IIS configuration" means to select BITS as described above?
Plus the following note under Additional prerequisites is as clear as mud.
    Note
With System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, the distribution point site system role does not require Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). When BITS is configured on the distribution point computer, BITS on the distribution point
computer is not used to facilitate the download of content by clients that use BITS.
Most of us understand the client facilitates the BITS downloads but is there still a need for the
BITS Server Extensions and the only way to get those on a Server 2008 R2 box is to select the
Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) check box?

  • Question about locking down IIS on an SCCM 2012 distribution point on a Windows Server 2003

Hello. My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1. I will be setting up several distribution points on Windows Server 2003 machines. This summer I have a project to configure SCCM to use our PKI infrastructure. Unfortunately, this will not be in place before I need
to set the Windows Server 2003 machines up as distribution points. I am not an IIS expert. When I set the DPs up, I am only 1)Installing IIS, 2)Enabling BITS extensions, and 3)Enabling WebDav. Is there anything I should do to ensure they are as secured as
    possible?

I would say that installing Windows Server 2003 is not "as secure as possible" due to it's end of support coming soon.
    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/default.aspx?LN=en-us&p1=3198&x=10&y=12
And I would say that we need more information about your scenario to tell you how it is as secure "as possible". Since that would be shutoff at the bottom of the ocean. But that wouldn't be that useful server.
Im guessing that you will run these servers for internal
clients ONLY. And that you have a decent edge protection as well as physical protection. Then I would start by having the lastest secrutiy patches, running antivirus software and having the firewall turned ON. I would make sure that
only necessary logons would be possible and that the servers wouldn't cache any credentials. Typically a DP NEVER holds sensitive data so no real need to secure them more than that in a normal scenario if you ask me.
A final notice, this is a baseline
for a common scenario. You would need to scale and change that
in order to apply for your scenario.

  • Ports Required for SCCM 2012 Distribution point

I think below are the port need to open for distribution point instalaltion
Site Server -- > Distribution Point
    SMB 445 TCP
RPC Endpoint Mapper 135 UDP and TCP
    RPC dynamic TCP
my question here is for install Distribution point instalaltion , only
Site Server -- > Distribution Point one way port open  is enough? or do we need to open both ways?

One way is enough for a standard Distribution Point. All distribution is initiated by your Primary site server by the Package Transfer Manager.

  • SCCM 2012 Distribution Point Issue

    Dear Team,
Hi, we deploy another Distribution point on other server on same subnet/LAN. but it show errors and progress run daily but not successful.
    durranifaisal

Hi, did have some issues before when installing remote distribution points. More about that can be found here:
    http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.nl/2014/07/installing-remote-distribution-point.html
It mentions: I did choose "Install and configure II if required by Configuration Manager" during installation, but IIS was installed already on servers. I did install BITS on servers also, because this seems to be needed (installation can be failing
otherwise). Strange thing, because BITS is no prerequisite at all? What I did NOT however is installing RDC as a prerequisite. Therefore files couldn't be replicated after all.
The issue described above where you can only add 2 roles is not known to me. Maybe server must be restarted or prerequisites are not in place? Like to hear the answer as well..
