ConfigMgr Distribution Point

Hi all,
We had to move a distribution point (Server XY) to another site.
First we uinstalled the distribution point role and the site system role from this server (Server XY).
Then we installed the distribution point again on the same server (server XY).
We modified the the boundaries and boundary groups, double checked everthing but the client can still not discover the distribution:
CAS.log: the number of discovered DPs (including Branch DP and Multicast) is 0
Any ideas?

When you say "site" do you mean a ConfigMgr site or do you simply mean geographic location?
If location, then you really didn't have to do any of the above at all except modify the boundaries.

  • ConfigMgr 2012 R2 Distribution Point IIS no directories created

I have an issue where I removed the DP role from my Primary Site Server, and am unable to re-install it.
Environment Server 2012 R2 all in one system (SQL, SSRS, and ConfigMgr installed locally).
The logs state that BITS isn't installed, but I have removed and reinstalled it several times.  I have also changed the "Log On" account to verify that it isn't a permissions thing (I have since reverted the account to the default).
The process of creating the DP role allows for the ContentLib folder to be created on the drive, but the SMS_DP_PKG$, nor for the virtual folder creation in IIS.  Please help.
    From the logs:

the defined share or volume on distribution point "["Display=\\SCCM.domain.org\"]MSWNET:["SMS_SITE=PS1"]\\SCCM.domain.org\".
Possible cause: Distribution Manager requires that IIS base components be
installed on the local Configuration Manager Site Server in order to create the
virtual directory.  Distribution Manager also requires that IIS Web
Services be installed on the Distribution Point Server that needs to support
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS).  Solution: Verify that IIS
base components are installed on the local Configuration Manager Site Server,
and IIS Web Services are installed on the Distribution Point Server.

    Hi,
Please check Distmgr.log as Torsten said.
Have you try to reboot the server after confirm all prerequisites has met?
Could you distribute a content to the DP successfully?

  • SCCM 2007 Won't remove Distribution Points in Site Status

I'm working SCCM 2007 and have removed  some orphaned Distribution Points by going through and removing any application assigned to them and then removing the roles under the Site Systems Folder.
The Systems then disappeared from under Site Systems but when I look under Site Status, they're still appearing in the list there and I have no option to delete them.
I've tried following this link (http://myitforum.com/myitforumwp/2012/02/10/removing-old-orphaned-site-systems-from-the-sms-and-configmgr-2007-database/) and changing their replication field from a 0 to -1 which removes them temporarily but they always return
    into the Site Status.
I can't see them anywhere else in the console, they're definitely not sited under Site Systems so I'm a bit stuck and have 3 sites saying they're in a Critical State in Site Status because the Orphaned Distribution Points are still appearing there and I
can't see how to remove them.
To clarify, I removed the orphaned Distribution points over a week ago so I doubt it's something like waiting for the system to e them.  I've tried rebooting the SCCM server and this has made no difference
    My list of servers under Site Systems;
    My Servers in Site Status;

Execute the following command on the database
Delete from DPinfo where server name like '%DPName%'
It is completely unsupported to delete anything from the CM07 database. Before doing this you should contact CSS directly for support and ONLY with their guidance should you perform this task.

  • Internet Information Services (IIS) becomes Disabled automatically on SCCM 2012 Distribution Points

    Hi !
Internet Information Services (IIS) is getting Disabled automatically on all of our SCCM 2012 Distribution Points.
Please help and share configuration steps.
    Thank you.

This is not anything ConfigMgr is doing. The cases I've seen similar to this have had a GPO responsible for this behavior from which the site systems needed to be excluded.

  • SCCM 2012 Distribution Point without IIS

Hello. My environment is SCCM 2012 SP1. I need to set up distribution points on several Windows Server 2003 machines. These machines have certain security requirements. One of which is no IIS. In SCCM 2007, I was able to create DPs without installing IIS.
This prevented the use of BITS extensions but was acceptable. I cannot seemed to do the same with SCCM 2012.
As a test, I performed three steps to test a DP without IIS on a Windows Server 2003 machine 1) Made the primary server a local administrator on the Windows Server 2003 machine, 2) Installed RDC using the msrdcoob_x86.exe file, 3) in the admin console, I
created a new site system server with the distribution point role. I did not check allow it to install IIS to install/configure during the setup. The distribution point reports a successful installation status but I get three errors when I try to distribute
a package. The first error message is Failed to create virtual directory on the defined share or volume of the distribution point. The second error is Distribution Manager failed to connect the the distribution point. The third error is Distribution Manager
failed to process package "Package Name". I know that installing IIS with BITS extensions and WebDav support would fix this problem. However, I would like to use the DP without IIS like I did in SCCM 2007.
Looking at the supported configurations, I see the below. This leads me to below that it is possible. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so, what I am missing in my steps.
With System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, the distribution point site system role does not require Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS). When BITS is configured on the distribution point computer, BITS on the distribution
point computer is not used to facilitate the download of content by clients that use BITS

BITS is a client side technology and has nothing to do with the server side of a DP or IIS and thus is irrelevant.
WebDAV was built into the relevant components of ConfigMgr obviating the need for the Windows Server WebDAV component so that's not needed for 2012 at all and thus N/A.
Ultimately, no, this is not possible. IIS is required on a DP in ConfigMgr 2012. This is clearly listed at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SiteSystemRolePrereqs.

  • Distribution point Critical

    Hi all,
How to setup in sccm 2012 r2 not to use some drives for Distribution point , because we have some drives has very low disk space it shows critical in site status .
    Thanks,
    Sengo

Specify the preferred drive(s) during the configuration of the Distribution Point and place a file called
NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS on the other drive(s). This file will prevent ConfigMgr from using it to store any information.

  • Is it possible to retry Distribution Point role removal if failed initially?

During my lab testing I came across a scenario where if you select to remove a distribution point role while the remote server hosting the distribution point isn't contactable, SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER won't retry the removal. Is there a (clean) way to manually
remove the distribution point role from the remote server or trigger SMS_DISTRIBUTION_MANAGER to attempt the removal again? In this case I will be rebuilding the server anyway, but I'm curious if there is a way to do this in case I encounter it in a production
    scenario

  • Once an OS image has been distributed to the distribution point, do I keep the source wim as well?

Just curious what do all you SCCM masters do?,
I really don't know if I explain can this right, but here goes.
If I capture a pre-installed/pre-configured imaged to my sccm server to a folder called OSIMAGES, lets call the image myosimage.wim, once I have distributed content of myosimage.wim to the distribution point, do I really need to keep the source copy of myosimage.wim
    in the folder OSIMAGES?

Well how does the ConfigMgr know if the content is correct and intact, if it cannot compare it to the one in the source? Do not remove the sources.

  • DPJobManager.exe doesn't see my distribution point

    Hello,
I'm trying to use DPJobMgr.exe that is part of SCCM Configmgr 2012 R2 Toolkit.  When I open it, I can connect to my primary site server.  But when I go in the  Overview tab, I receive an error that it can't find my distribution point.
My server is a primary server, SCCM 2012 R2 with the R2 tool
I can connect with the application but I can't see my distribution point...  The error message is:  No distribution point was found in this site
Can anybody explain to me why?

I concur with Niall. It doesn't make sense to use this tool for a DP on the site server itself as the content is already in the site server's contentlib so there's nothing to track.
    Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com

  • Distribution point at an unreliable network

I have an challenge with the distribution of content to distribution points. Most of my distribution points are at a location with an unreliable network. (ships) I would like to distribute content by the network to the DP’s. Normally no issue but networks
at ships can drop the network connection for some minutes while sailing over the ocean. I have test the retry option but I saw in the log files that it will start sending all the files again instead of continuing with the remaining part. This means in my case
that some packages ( > 100 MB) never completely distribute like the package in the screenshot.
FYI: Pre-staged content is not an option because the physical location can change day to day.
Is there an hidden option to force the distribution continuing with the remaining part instead of start all over again? Or maybe any other solution?

Have you considered integrating 1E Nomad with your ConfigMgr environment? It would eliminate the requirement for DPs on the ships.
One client downloads the content and then distributes it locally. It would be perfect solution as it can tolerate losses of network connection and resumes the download.
(note that I do not work with 1E but one of my customers successfully uses the solution for remote sites with poor bandwidth)

  • Redistributing Application to Distribution Point Group

    Hey Guys -
Just a quick question for you about something I've never been 100% sure about and wanted to clear up...
Let's say I have an "Application" in which I've added files to the source folder which is required by the script the application runs.  After adding the file, I need to update it's distribution on all 3 of my distribution points (which all
happen to be in a DP Group.)  Which of the following methods will accomplish this or is the preferred method?
    1. Select Application in console, choose "Deployment Types" tab, right click on type I want to update and choose "Update Content"
    2. Open Application's Properties, choose "Content Locations" tab, select the Distribution Group (which contains all 3 DPs) and click "Redistribute"
    3. Open Application's Properties, choose "Content Locations" tab, select each of the 3 distribution points and choose to "Redistribute" to each one of them
Below is what my Content Locations looks like when distributed to all 3 DPs.  As is was distributed to the group containing all 3, it lists the group and the 3 DPs for a total of 4 objects.  Which of the above methods (or a different one) is the
    best way to go?
    Thanks!
    Ben K.

    Hi,
    NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS
This file is used to prevent Configuration Manager from installing binaries to a volume. By default, when you install System Center 2012 Configuration Manager on a remote Site System, the SMS Site Component Manager Service installs the binaries (files and
folders) for the Site System on the NTFS-formatted volume that contains the most free space. You may want to use an NTFS volume other than the default volume for your remote Site Systems by preventing ConfigMgr from enumerating certain NTFS volumes.
In order to prevent CM from enumerating an NTFS volume, on the remote server you can create a text file that is named NO_SMS_ON_DRIVE.SMS and put the this file on the root folder of all NTFS volumes where you do not want to install the binaries (SMS folder)
    for the ConfigMgr components.
