  • How do I configure my Time Capsule to use ethernet?

Over my Wifi, the estimated backup time is 72 days so guessing an ethernet cable will be substantially faster but don't see a place to configure the Time Machine/Time Capsule interface to default to an ethernet connection.   Anyone know how???
    Thanks

In most cases, once you connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule, you are automatically setup for backup over Ethernet. Nothing else is required.
The exception would be if you configured your Time Capsule to "join" your wireless network using wireless only. In that case the Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled, so backup over Ethernet woud not be possible unless you reconfigured your Time Capsule in a different manner.

Simple.. bridge the TC.. in the apple utility in the NAT and DHCP area.
Plug it into the FIOS router.. you can turn off wireless in the TC if you want.. or use it.. it can work faster if you are nearby and can select 5ghz.. but up to you.

  • Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time caspule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport Express it worked!

Configuring the time capsule airport wlan function as "connect to wlan", the time capsule gets a correct IP adress from the other wlans IP range, but does not assign this to the ethernet ports. With Airport express it worked, the single Ethernet port got the IP Parameters passed through!
My setup is a Vodafon Esaybox connected to ISP. Time Capsule is not able to extend the wlan of the easybox, neither airport express can do.
Only the option "connect to wlan" is succesful.
With airport express I was able to connect my Sony Bravia TV to the lan via ethernet to stream pictures, the TV set got an IP adress from the easybox.
With the time capsule the easybox dosn't find devices connected to the ethernet ports to submit IP adresses. The TV set get another IP adress (169.xxx.x.x.) in subnet mask 255.255.0.0 and I don not now where from.
My notebook is a MacBook pro.
    Any idea????
    Thank a lot in advance!
    Kind regards

Neverthe less, could there be the chance, that this feature could be implemnented with an firmware update?
That would appear to be a question for Apple to answer. You can make suggestions to Apple here:
Apple - AirPort Extreme - Feedback
If the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule are configured to "extend a wireless network" they will provide additional wireless coverage....and...the Ethernet ports are enabled in this type of setup.
The "catch" here is that you must have an Apple router providing the network to be extended.

  • After I configure my time capsule to my newly replaced macbook hard drive, are my old backups still available?

After I configure my time capsule to my newly replaced macbook hard drive, are my old backups still available?

How old was this backup? It sounds like it was at least several weeks old.
You can look directly in the TM backup for the music.
    1. Connect to the external HDD the backup is kept on.
    2. Open a Finder window and select the backup drive in the left hand panel. Double click into the folders until you see a list of folders with dates.
These are the incremental backups. You can start at the top or the bottom of the list but I suggest you double Latest/<HDD Name>/Users/<Account Name>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. From this location you can start looking for the "missing" music. When/if you find it you can simply drag-n-drop to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music on the internal HDD.
If the music is actually not in the backups (for whatever reason) then you've got a problem.
You can download the uploaded files from the cloud by deleting the affected tracks from the iTunes library (but not the cloud!), highlighting multiple tracks at once, right-clicking and choosing "download."

  • Configuring my Time Capsule with a Comcast modem

Configuring my Time Capsule with a Comcast modem. I had an outage and the time capusule had a pop up that said change something, I did, didn't fix the problem, but now I can't get wireless networking, but the MacPro connected by ethernet works fine.

Redo the setup.. press and hold the reset for about 10sec and redo it.
This time set wireless using simple name, no space and pure alphanumeric.
Lock the wireless channels as that also helps.
Wireless on an old Gen1 can get pretty tired.

  • I need to configure my Time Capsule with a Ruckus wireless...

Hi people, i need your help to solve this problem...
I need to configure my time capsule for first time with one Ruckus wireless...
If you can...could you please give me the solution?
    Thank you all!

Time Capsule is designed for ethernet connection.. it is not really good without it.
There is a single option to join wireless network.. hidden and unused as it should be..
On a windows version you will have to hold down the alt key i think when you click the options for wireless mode.. it will then offer join a wireless network.
It is super slow.. and subject to easy corruption of files.. it will turn off all wireless AP and routing and ethernet functions.. good luck!!

  • Airport can no longer read or write the configuration of Time Capsule

I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.8.3 and maintained with all available patches. I have also a Time Capsule with version 7.6.3 of the firmware. I use AirPort 6.2. So everything seems to be updated with the latest versions.
This has really been a good setup for nearly a year now, but earlier this month Time Machine suddenly stopped to work and could no longer do backups to the Time Capsule. I have tried to factory reset the Time Capsule several times, but I still get problems when writing the configuration to the Time Capsule. I get an error message saying "An error occurred while updating the configuration".
Airport is furthermore not able to detect the Time Capsule correctly anymore, so I have to configure it by entering the IP address. But after setting up WLAN, disks, etc. and enhanching the security, I just receive the error message when I try to write the config. The Internet connection works perfectly anyway, both via cable and wireless.
    Anyone got any tips?

Do the setup by ethernet in full isolation from the network.
Start from a full factory reset.
I would recommend you take the firmware back to 7.6.1 or even earlier if the TC is older than 12months. 7.5.2 was very reliable. All these bugs started with 7.6 and the change to Lion.
I would also recommend installing 5.6 utility.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 (now 6.2 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • How do I configure my time capsule to DHCP mode?  I had to replace my DSL router, had a network set up before.

I recently had to replace my DSL router.  My provider, Earthlink, walked me through the setup and I do have internet access if I connect directly to my Mac.  When I tried to use my time capsule, it would not work.  The Earthlink tech said I needed to reconfigure my time capsule to DHCP mode.  I tried the set up manual and could not make sense of it.  My 90 free service is long gone.

and the text in the router mode box came up DHCP and NAT, but the lettering was in a lighter shade than elsewhere and I could not open the drop down box.
You would have had to change some other settings on the AirPort to be able make changes in the drop down Router Mode box.
Your AirPort is already configured as Earthlink suggests.
Try powering off the entire network...all devices....in any order you want
    Wait a few minutes
Start the Earthlink modem first and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Start the Time Capsule and let it run a full minute
Keep starting other devices the same way until everything is powered back up
    Check the network
If still no improvement, I think you need to let Earthlink know that you have done as they asked, and ask for more steps to try.
Hopefully, another Earthlink user will see this post and offer any special information or tips that only they would know.

  • How to configure Airport Time Capsule with IP Camera?

I have recently switched from a DLINK Router (DIR-655) to the latest 3TB Airport Time Capsule. The ATC works great, super fast etc...
    However...
I had an IP Camera (Trendnet TV-IP572-WI) connected to my DLINK Router, using a Dynamic DNS account (dyndns) to access if from outside my home (i.e. from the Internet). The configuration on the DLINK was quite straightforward. (Virtual Server)
Question: How to do the same with Airport Time Capsule ?  I had a look at the detailed settings menu in the Airport Configuration Utility. but cannot find anything like this (Virtual Server, Port Forwarding etc...)
Many thanks for your help !

What is the make and model number of your "modem"?
Most modems these days are actually modem/routers or gateway devices....which would require that the port forwarding be done on the "modem"....not on the Time Capsule.
If you did not see any settings for DHCP Reservations and Port Settings when you looked around in AirPort Utility, this indicates that the Time Capsule is likely configured to operate in Bridge Mode.......and it is your "modem" that is actually the router for the network.
Open up AirPort Utility again, click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Check the setting for Router Mode.......which is likely set to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
    Is it?

  • How can I configure my Time Capsule as a WiFi extension in my Belgacom B-Box WiFi Network?

I'm using Belgacom B-Box that serves both my digital TV and the local WiFi network in our house.  Because of problems with the WiFi signal strength I bought a Time Capsule.  It is the purpose to use the TC as a WiFi extension throughout our house, and meanwhile use the backup functionalities.
Of course I want to keep the B-Box delivering digital TV, and also WiFi, strenghtend by the Time Capsule.
The setup of the TC always gives me "an unexpected problem has occurred" and than I need to reset it to the factory settings.
Has anybody experience in setting up this combination?  If you have, please give me a detailed answer, since I'm not a networking specialist :-)
    Thanks in advance

It is the purpose to use the TC as a WiFi extension throughout our house, and meanwhile use the backup functionalities.
Unfortunately, Apple designed the "extend" feature to only work with other Apple wireless routers, so the Time Capsule would not be compatible with the B-Box for the purpose that you ask about....using wireless only.
If the B-Box has an extra Ethernet port, you can connect an Ethernet cable from the port on the B-Box to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule and configure it to provide more wireless coverage that way.

  • Configuration of Time Capsule

Does anyone know the configuration page of Time Capsule so that we can enter port number?

That's kinda odd, since I'm using Leopard too I don't think it's that. What version of Airport Utility are you using, the latest is 5.1.3, so if it doesn't say that in the Airport Utility menu under About Airport Utility, click Check for Updates on the same menu and install any it finds, or run Software Update (Apple, Software Update). Otherwise I'd suggest reinstalling it, resetting your Time Capsule by pushing a sharpish object into the reset hole on the back of it for a second (you shouldn't lose data or settings), and if all that fails, giving Apple a call. If you really need to open those ports pronto, you could also give Lighthouse a try, as it allows you to use the joy of NAT-PMP to open ports from right inside OS X.

  • Best configuration for Time Capsule & Airport Extreme running one wireless network?

We just moved to a house that does not have Ethernet pre-wired so I've had to re-setup the wireless network in a different configuration and it seems we're experiencing deteriorated wireless signal for devices like laptops.  It will work perfectly fine (and fast! wheee!!!) but then it will slow to a crawl and mostly timeout.  before I reset everything and start from scratch, I'd like some help.  As an FYI, when connected via Ethernet to either of these, Internet is blazingly fast… so my problem here is the Wireless portion.
As some background, here is how we had the network set up in the previous house which was working great (although it was wired for Ethernet which made things A LOT easier):
    Airport Extreme (4th Generation)
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network
Internet Facing (Connected to the Cable Modem)
Location: Upstairs Utility Closet (with Smartbox and cable modem)
    Time Capsule (1st Generation)
Wireless Mode: Extend a Wireless Network
Joined to existing network above, but also connected to the Ethernet jack
    Location: Upstairs Office
Here is the current set up we have running:
    Time Capsule (1st Generation)
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network
Internet Facing (Connected to the Cable Modem)
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (b/g compatible)
    Location: Upstairs Office
    Airport Extreme (4th Generation)
Wireless Mode: Extend a Wireless Network
Joined to existing network above with NO incoming Ethernet connection
    Location: Downstairs Family Room
My understanding is that the Airport Extreme should pick up and relay the signal downstairs, as well as provide the router for the devices downstairs that need Ethernet (TiVo, Apple TV, etc).
So, my question is (and thank you in advance for helping me sort this out!), what would be the best configuration to optimize the Wireless performance in the house?
Also, for whichever device is the one picking up the existing network and providing the router capabilities for the Tivo and such, is it possible for it to pick up but not rebroadcast the signal?  I think in this new house we may have a good enough signal from the office, without the need to rebroadcast it.  My theory is that in this house, they are too close together and interfere with each other and/or devices aren't sure which to choose so they bounce back and forth endlessly.  Again, just a theory.
Many thanks again for your help! If I've left out any information, please ask and I can provide.

Should they be running on the same channel (as with the "Extend" option previously? Or just both on Automatic channels?
I would recommend the Automatic setting on both devices because this will allow each router to scan and choose an open channel automatically. If  you want to set the channels manually, keep them separated by at least 4-5 channels. You would not want to ever use the same channel for both devices in this type of "roaming" setup.
Is there a way to limit bandwidth per device (or action) so that it doesn't monopolize the network and keep other devices from using it?
Nothing that I am aware of. It sounds like  you have some young users who are likely visiting Bit Torrent sites, which will really gobble up the bandwidth with big, heavy downloads. The Time Machine has to back up the same files again when it makes the next pass, so that clogs things up again.
Backups would go 3-5 times faster, on average, if the computer(s) could connect using Ethernet, but I understand that wires are not cool with the younger crowd.
should BOTH the TC and AE be set up in Bridge mode?
The AirPort Extreme should be set up in Bridge Mode.
The Time Capsule...it depends. If the TC is connected to a simple cable modem...then the correct setting for Connection Sharing would be "Share a public IP address" on the TC. That is because a simple modem has only 1 IP address to deliver. The TC takes that address and "shares" it with other devices by setting up a local network for all your other devices.
If the TC is connected to a gateway....a combination modem/router in the same box that usually has 3-4 Ethernet ports on the device....then that device would be considered the main router on the network and the TC would be  configured in Bridge Mode in that case to function correctly on the network.
