Configuration error on Airport Admin Utility

Just bought an airport extreme 802.11n. Loaded the software that came with it, then when I try to use the Airport Admin Utility, I get a "Configuration Error" that says this version of the utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it. Please go to apple.com/support to locate a newer version of the utility.
So, I did that, downloaded, mounted, installed, and it doesn't see the base station. So, I manually entered the ip and password, and it would not update the utility.
I'm getting an amber blinking light, so I need to use the utility to change settings and get it running properly.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for any help,
Cindy

Duane, Thanks! I just now figured that one out. Now I'm green across the board - even with my son's XBOX live! YAY!
Thanks.

  • Configuration Error with Airport Admin Utility. Where is the newer version?

I am trying to make a change in Airport Admin . I am getting a pop-up saying
"Configuration Error" This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it". ...
It says go to apple.com/support to locate a newer version - but I can't find one.
Does anyone know where it is?

Your first post indicated that you were using "AirPort Admin Utility".
If you have the new square 802.11b/g/n AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) ou don't want to use that.
Instead you want to use "AirPort Utility".

  • Unable to configure express via airport admin utility

After much faffing around I finally got my airport express to connect to my existing network and even got the little speaker button to show up in itunes (hooorah) but then it asked me if I wanted to update the firmware so I said yes and then it all went 't*ts up' and I never got airport utility to read the configuration again even after resetting ?
Anybody got any helpful advice ?
    Thanks
    AnniB

I think that the resetting alone solved your issue, because I am having the same problem without ever upgrading to the new firmware. My Airport Express is working fine, but I wanted to check the settings, so I opened the Utility program. It asked me if I wanted to updated the firmware, and I hit cancel.
The Utility see my AX and can get the basic info, but I get the same -6753 error when trying to read the configuration of the AX.
I will try the resetting procedure, but I don't think the firmware is the issue here, since I have the old firmware with the same problem.

  • "Configuration Error... download a new AirPort Admin Utility" Ok where?

    I just purchased a new airpot extreme. So far, no problems until now. I wanted to reconfigure it to add a password etc, but when I select "configure" in my current Airport Admin Utility (located: Applications - Utilities - Airport Admin Utility) I get the following message;
    Configuration Error
This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the software for this base station, but you may be able to make configuration changes to it. Please go to www.apple.com/support to locate a newer version of the AirPort Admin Utility.
It won't let me pass this warning. I've searched the support pages for the AirPort Extreme but havn't been able to find any new Admin Utilities. Only updates for the one I guess I don't have. Which is weird because my MacBook is not that old. It's Intel based.
    Someone, please help.

    Me again,
Ok, say I threw that away, where can I go to download
    it?
I had a feeling that what I needed was on the CD.
Dang it. I'm so used to Apple being on top of
updates and the like, that I've fallen into the
routine of tossing out the CD's that come with what
I buy. Otherwise I have a small libarary full of
CD's and what nots to manage.
There is the place to go:

See "Update Your Software" in the lower right.

  • Configuration error -- airport admin utility

I'm stuck and hoping someone here might be able to help me. I have a new AirPort Extreme 802.11n and when I open the airport admin utility, a "Configuration Error" message appears telling me that "This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station..."
What's worse is that there is only a "Continue" button, and it does not work (i.e. does not do anything, including dismiss the message box).
I installed the software that came with the router, but I get this error on both my MBP and my iMac.
I've tried selecting the check box that says "No longer warn me for this base station", but I am still unable to dismiss this message. The fact that this message won't go away means I can't access the panel behind it to actually configure the router. The message is not modal but also not draggable, so although I can access some fields, I can't access the fields directly underneath the message.
This is so frustrating -- please help!

    Hi James,
The installation disk that came with your AE installed two programs to your Utilities folder. One is Airport Utility. The other is Airport Disk Utility.
The Airport Administration Utility was already on your machine, and that only works with previous Airports. Go back again and click to open Airport Utility and you should be fine.

  • Airport Admin Utility Problem: Configuration error

I just bought an Airport Extreme 802.11n. Installed the program, checked for updates, setted up, everything is working fine.
Except, the AirPort Admin Utility. Everytime I open the program and select Config, it pops up with a window that says Config Error: This version of AirPort Admin Utility does not support this base station. You can't update the sofware for this base station, but you may be able to make confiuration changes to it.
And this window does not go away when I click continue. But I am able to change password and select any of the options that is showing on the current screen. But the error window does not go away.
I need to get into the Port Mapping window but this error window is blocking it. Please Help.

On mine there was a previous Airport Admin Utility App. This one was pre-installed and doesn't work with my new AirPort Extreme BS. There is another App called, "Airport Utility" that was installed from the new DVD and it works w/ the new Airport Extreme BS.

  • Can't open AirPort Admin Utility configuration file

I'm using an AirPort Extreme Base Station connected to a cable modem through the WAN port and to my G4 Cube running OSX 10.2.8 through the LAN port. I also use an iBook and eMac with AirPort cards to wirelessly access my network. My problem is that I can not open the configuration file so that I can change my settings. I get an error message that AirPort Admin Utility can't read the configuration file of the base station. I tried resetting the base station to the factory settings, to no avail. So now I also can't set a password and encryption. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

To clarify--I previously had a password protected network set up and working. I wanted to change the settings and couldn't open the config file. I reset to factory settings successfully, but still can't open the config file, which I need to do in order to encrypt and set a new password. Thanks!

  • Airport Admin Utility Error

I just bought a new G5 with the new Airport Extreme and upgraded to OS X 10.4.9 because I was getting a "Configuration" error when running the Airport Admin Utility. The error reads "Configuration Error, This version of Airport Admin Utility does not support this base station." I went the the apple support site and downloaded an update to the airport extreme software.
The problem was not solved. While I can connectivity through ethernet on one machine, the airport's light is flashing amber and I have no wireless connectivity. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks

Airport Utility is for the new Airport Extreme although one can use it to setup an Express to a point.
The Airport Admin Utility does not work with the new Extreme router.
When you install the Airport software from the CD you received when you bought the router it does not overwrite the older Airport software.

  • Airport Admin Utility Error 6753

Trying to add original Airport Express (for iTunes) to Windows wireless network based on a Belkin G54 router but after inputing router IP address and password in Airport Admin Utility I get the Error 6753 and flashing amber when the program tries to read router. Running Windows VISTA and Live OneCare. I've tried resetting, uninstalling OneCare, and newer Airport Utility but same result. Would appreciate any help with this.

  • Airport Admin Utility can no longer access Airport Extreme, what now?

I have an Airport Extreme that worked fine for a long time with a specific IP. They sold out and the new company came in and installed new equipment. The settings had to change on the Airport. After that, I lost my ability to print through the Airport USB port.
I tried to resolve the problem the other day. My Airport Admin Utility saw the Airport, but I couldn't access it. When I clicked configure, a window came up saying "Reading configuration from base station", then a Password login window came up. I enter my password, it says "Reading configuration from base station", then it says "An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again.". It does the same thing whether I enter the right or wrong password.
It started working unexpectedly for a little while. I experimented with some settings. Now I can't access it again. The Airport Admin Utility sees the Airport as 10.0.0.0, my laptop's IP says 169.xx.whatever. I thought the Airport was supposed to distribute IP addressed. It did for awhile after I set it that way, but then it went back to 169.xx.whatever.
I'm lost. I don't know how I will ever access the Airport again. Or get my printing capability back.
    Help!!!

Ok. I'm going to try a reset on a day where I have some time to mess with it. There are some things I need clarified for me about settings. Please correct me as needed.
    In the internet tab:
    -Connect using Ethernet is selected.
-Configure Manually was selected before as it is now.
-IP address: do I use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-Subnet mask: It used to be 255.255.255.0 now it's 255.255.0.0.
-Router address: What do I put here, use their IP or 10.0.0.0 or 10.0.1.1 or what?
-DNS servers: I will enter their DNS servers.
    -Domain name: blank
-WAN Ethernet Port is selected Automatic.
    Under Network Tab:
    -Distribute IP adresses is checked.
-Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT)used to be checked, now Share a rnage of IP addresses (using only DHCP) is checked.
-DHCP Lease: 4 hours. What is best here?
Do I really need to worry about anything else? If the password is reset how to I access from default settings?
Thanks, after this I should have a better understanding of network settings and the AEBS.
    J-

  • Airport admin utility

When I open airport admin utility, the window 'select base station' opens but I can''t see my base station or anything at all, it's just empty, like no one lives there.
    I have 2 emac's, 1-G5 dual 2, 1 G4, 1- PS3 and a HP Photosmart 7140 all on a WEP network (13 digit password for the PS3).
It all works perfectly except my printer does not work on the wireless anymore. Thats why I'm trying to see whats in the 'airport admin utility'.
    What gives? Thanks to anyone.
      Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    1-imac core duo 2.1, 1- G5 dual 2.0, 2 emacs, 1-G4/ 400   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I am experiencing the exact same problem with the exact same AE base station. At one point today, even though my internet connection stayed up, this problem began. I first notice that iTunes had dropped my wirelss network airtunes speakers, then I proceeded to trouble shoot, and discovered I could not load the base station configuration settings in the Admin Utility, nor could the Utility find the Base Station via scan. Entering IP address returned an error message communicating with the base station. This communication error came up when I tried to update the firmware, with (-8) indicated.
Plugging the ethernet cable directly from my PowerBook to the base station returned an error reading the configuration. It appears that the base station has lost the ability to maintain an IP address, or possbly database corruption.
Any experience with this or ideas, anyone? I'm not beyond buying the new one to solve this problem, the base station in question is around 3 years old.

  • Airport Admin Utility cant find ABS

    Hi all,
I have an Airport Base Station (Snow) running firmware 4.0.9 and am using Airport Admin Utility 3.1.1 on OSX 10.2.8. Yesterday, I had a local computer store update the firmware from 4.0.8 to 4.0.9. I took the Snow ABS into the store because the wireless connection was being dropped off and on. They updated the firmware, but otherwise found no problems with the ABS. I get the ABS home, login to the ABS, using the reset network name and password the store had reset them to, and re-set the ABS to my network name and 128-bit WEP hex password. Everything proceeded without any errors I thought.
After exiting Airport Admin Utility (AAU), and re-set my location to use the Airport card, I did indeed see my old network name. Selecting it, I get prompted for the password as I expected. I select WEP 128-bit hex password, type it in and get an error message indicating that password is incorrect! I try typing the password in several more times, both in hex and ASCII. No luck!
I figured I screwed something up, so I thought a hard reset on the ABS would allow me to get back into the ABS, via the AAU, but no luck. Using my "Airport Reload" location to connect, via the AAU, to my ABS, I can't seem to find the ABS at all now.
When I updated the firmware myself last June, 2005, I did see my ABS in the AAU list.
I'm pretty sure I did get a hard re-set to occur, since I now see "No Airport networks in range" when I click the Airport icon.
Any ideas what to do next?
    Ed

    Hi Stuart,
I've followed the instructions on both of the Apple articles you'd provided links to. The result is no go. Can't get the Airport Admin Utility to find my base station. Can't even get AAU to authenticate the password I type in for the "Other" basestation. I've tried both a hard and a soft re-set of the basestation. I've also tried for the "Airport Reload" location (as recommended in one of the articles you linked) both the "Manual" IP configuratiuon and the "Using DHCP" configuration. Both a no go.
Do you know where the configuration file for the Snow basestation is located? The error message I get from AAU indicates that there was a problem reading the config file. Since I never explicitly saved one from the AAU menu before, I don't know the default path, nor the default filename for the basestation's config file.
    Any ideas?
    Ed

  • AirPort admin Utility 5.0

I have done a search for the AirPort admin Utility 5.0 and i can't find the actual program. I have lost the original disk for it, and i can't use the 5.1 SW because i get an error asking for 5.0 to be installed first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

A full version of the "Airport Utility" for Windows is not available for download from Apple's web site, as you have already learned. However, there is still a way to obtain it by following this process:
    1. download "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002 for Windows" from Apple's web site
    2. use a Winzip utility to extract the contents of the file you downloaded (called Airport521update.exe) to another folder. To further clarify - open the file you downloaded from within the Unzip utility you use. Do not open the file you downloaded by double-clicking on it even though it is a .exe file - otherwise (as you already know) the process will terminate with an error message.
    3. the contents of that folder should include four files - applesoftwareupdate.msi, apsetup.msi, apsetupadmin.exe, and bonjour.msi
    4. go to All Programs -> Accessories. Right click on the "Command Prompt", select to "run as administrator", and click continue when Windows asks for your permission to run this command.
    5. in the command prompt window, type and execute the command
    msiexec /i pathto_folder_of_files_youdownloaded\apsetup.msi /qb ap50isinstalled=1
This method simply forces the installer into thinking Airport 5.0 is already installed, thus letting the installer complete its job of installing a full working copy of the updated version.
This procedure also installs Bonjour for Windows, which will simplify the task of configuring on the PC any printer connected to the Base Station.
Important notes: (1) I recommend your unzip the downloaded file into a folder located at the root of your C: drive which makes typing in the path easier, and (2) the name for that folder should be short and *should have no spaces in its name*.
