Configuration of Cisco WLC 2504 with Local LAN static IP and DHCP

I want to configure Cisco WLC 2504 with Local LAN static IP and WLC 2504 with DHCP so that APs can be connect with controller.
Currently i am using WLC 2504 with DHCP so can anyone suggest how to do that..

The info is correct, if we're using code below 7.3.101.0.
This issue is fixed via the below bug id.

    I've been given a fantastic "opportunity" by my boss to use our existing wireless infrastructure to provide internet access to potentially upto 2000 VIP guests arriving with BYOD devices, in a very densely populated area for a 3 day event. We are talking an area of approx 200m x 15m. Think of it as an awards ceremony/concert. The solution will also be mobile so we will be using internet breakout from different telcos as it will move to approx 20 countries. The area is also incredibly densely populated with other wifi APs. I did a brief site survey and AirMagnet could detect over 2500 other 'rogue' APs from where I was stood! I hope CleanAir works!
    We need a simple authentication method for them to connect with zero admin from our side. We don't want to just offer up a rolling daily PSK as that's a bit amateur and we don't really want the VIP guests sharing the PSK with others during their stay. Ideally they could self-provision by providing an email address.
    I know the WLC can handle webauth for local users but I don't think it scales very well. ie I don't think I can offer the account to several hundred people.
    Cisco ISE looks a very expansive (and expensive) product but I don't think we need all it's capabilities (do I?). It would be nice to just ask a potential user for their email address and grant them access and email them next year. I've seen Cisco NAC but that looks over the top too for just guest users who will only be accessing a shared internet connection.
    I've seen 3rd party supposed software solutions from Kiosk Antamedia etc do they work with Cisco Enterprise WLC solutions?
    We'd like to limit users to a certain (low) bandwidth and block (say) torrent traffic to keep the general user experience worthwhile.
    Does anybody have any case study documents or experience of such a project? As well as the authentication it's how well the APs will handle the dense potential number of clients trying to connect in such a confined space. 
    Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated from the knowledgeable community.

    We are having WLC 5508 model with software version running 7.4.121.0. AP Models are AIR-CAP2602I.
    Normally our WAN links are good even while the issue pertains. We are connected to remote offices over ipsec site to site vpn for WAN. The link latency in WLC between the AP and the controller shows  <1ms.
    currently the Guest network is using WPA2-PSK auth given in the controller. we are trying to find a option to make the Guest wireless auth local to the office, and see if this solves the problem.

    One of my client want to encrypt data over the wireless. I have cisco WLC 2504 IOS Version 7.2.0.0.
    Please help me on this. I think by-default data encrypt is enable. If not so how can I enable it. If I enable it is there any impact to my wireless user's.

    2500, WiSM2, WLC2—These platforms by default will not contain DTLS. To turn on data DTLS, you must install a license. These platforms will have a single image with data DTLS turned off. To use data DTLS you will need to have a license.

    Is the cisco wlc 2504 compatible with the AIR-CAP-3602l and if so what firmware would i need to be running on the WLC ? My firm rushed out and bought a mesh solution without doing their homework

    I am using Cisco WLC 2504 current software version is 7.0.220.0 and I want to upgrade it to the latest version which is 8.x.x.x.

    Yes, you can go directly to 8.0.x from 7.0.x code. Refer below link

  • Wlc 2100 with local eap auth

    I have set up an wlc 2125 with local eap auth which I think is working fine for now.
    But I dont want it come up a certificate warning when user log in.
    Can I stop this from happening without bying a certificate?
    Can I turn of https all together?

    So here we are talking about web authentication, which does not use local EAP, so not sure whether the local EAP profile is really being triggered for that.
    Clients are being prompted with a WLC's self-signed certificate, more or less in the same way as they would be if they tried to login to the WLC via HTTPS.
    Similarly, the fastest way would be to install this certificate on the user's machine, so that it can trust it from that moment on.
    Or you can generate a certificate signing request for the WLC, submit it to a root CA/buy a root CA signed server certificate (with the root CA trusted by the clients) and then install this certificate on the WLC:

    For web authentication, there is no way to switch to HTTP for the WLC's certificate validation.

    Does anyone have a recommended network, hardware and software configuration guide for a Portal installation running with multiple gateways load balanced (ie one URL) that talk to multiple servers?

    We've used Resonate (software) to load balance the gateways. It allows
    you to group all the gateways under 1 virtual URL and load balance the
    incoming connections over each gateway depending on the rules that you
    define in Resonate. Look in the SUN portal whitepapers there is one that
    talks about it specifically.
    As far as load balancing the calls to the portals, the gateways will
    automatically load balance across all the portals that they know about
    using a simple round-robin rotation. You may be able to use Resonate in
    front of the portals but you may need to activate persistance within
    Resonate to ensure that the user always ends up on the portal that he
    established his initial connection on (if you want that), check with Sun
    on this one.

    Information About RADIUS
    Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a client/server protocol that provides centralized security for users attempting to gain management access to a network. It serves as a backend database similar to local and TACACS+ and provides authentication and accounting services:
    •Authentication—The process of verifying users when they attempt to log into the controller.
    Users must enter a valid username and password in order for the controller to authenticate users to the RADIUS server. If multiple databases are configured, you can specify the sequence in which the backend database must be tired.
    •Accounting—The process of recording user actions and changes.
    Whenever a user successfully executes an action, the RADIUS accounting server logs the changed attributes, the user ID of the person who made the change, the remote host where the user is logged in, the date and time when the command was executed, the authorization level of the user, and a description of the action performed and the values provided. If the RADIUS accounting server becomes unreachable, users are able to continue their sessions uninterrupted.
    RADIUS uses User Datagram Protocol (UDP) for its transport. It maintains a database and listens on UDP port 1812 for incoming authentication requests and UDP port 1813 for incoming accounting requests. The controller, which requires access control, acts as the client and requests AAA services from the server. The traffic between the controller and the server is encrypted by an algorithm defined in the protocol and a shared secret key configured on both devices.
    You can configure multiple RADIUS accounting and authentication servers.For example, you may want to have one central RADIUS authentication server but several RADIUS accounting servers in different regions. If you configure multiple servers of the same type and the first one fails or becomes unreachable, the controller automatically tries the second one, then the third one if necessary, and so on.

    With what may be the problem exists? Any suggestion?

    Have you upgraded the FUS to 1.8.0.0? What happens if you try to boot from v7.5 do you see the messages and maybe boot back to v7.6?
    Here is what the doc mentions about the error

  • How to configure two Cisco WLC-5508-50

    Hi everyone, last year we buy 1 wlc-5508-50 to use with cisco 1142 AP. This year we plan to add more APs and we just buy another WLC-5508-50 because it was cheaper than to buy 50 licences. We would like to know what is the best way to configure our second WLC so that we can distribute our 75 APs on each controller. Maybe someone can help us. Thanks!

    If you have WCS, you can use templates to synchronize your configurations on the WLCs.
    Another possibility is you can upload your current configuration from your production WLC, and then open up the configuration file and edit the IP addresses to give new addresses to the new WLC. You will also want to change the system name to be unique as well. You can then download this config onto the new WLC, as long as the IP addresses and system name are different it should not interfere with your current WLC.
    To have the WLCs operate together properly, you will want to make sure they are defined in a mobility group, see the following for instructions:

  • Backing up config on Cisco WLC 2504

    I need to upgrade the software on my controller but first need to take a backup of the config.
    I log into the GUI of the controller and then go to Commands / Upload File, I then select my options:
    File Type: Configuration
    Transfer Mode: TFTP
    IP: 10.x.x.x
    File Path: C:\Cisco\WLC
    File Name: ciscowlc.cfg
    Click Upload
    After about a minute it receive the following error:
    % Error: Config file transfer failed - Error from server: The specified operation is not supported.
    I can't seem to find any information on this error.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    What TFTP server are you using... I use 3CDeamon and I also select the folder from the TFTP server so my path would just be ./
    Make sure that the firewall on the tftp server is disabled and also make sure your doing the tftp to a wired machine and not a wireless machine.  TFTP and FTP is not allowed when your associated to an AP that is joined to that WLC.

    We receive CDP duplex mismatch from the Nexus switches.
    Any ideas?

  • Little help with EL: concat static string and databound number

    I'm a bit stuck with a simple - as I thought - case: concatenating static string and databound number in EL:
    I have a deffered expression like:
    #{1 != 2 ? ('Number is ' bindings.SomeNumber.inputValue) : 'no number'}
    1 and 2 are databound values too but the question is about showing "Number is 5" where 5 is a SomeNumber.
    Expression editor shows error on 'Number is'. And the error dissapperars if I remove "bindings.SomeNumber.inputValue".
    How can I concatenate them?

    Another option for you is to write that formatting logic in a static utility classes that takes parameters to return strings.
