Configuration of grid control agent 11g

Hello guys,
I have problem with configuration of Grid control agent 11g. Root cause of the problem is that target machine is in DMZ Zone. So there is lack of ports enabled. Other agents I've been installed works properlly.
The one I am talking is able to upload data, but in case of configration I get error message: "Error occurred while getting information for the specified target. Possible reasons include: the target doesn't exist; connection to the target failed."
Here you are output from emctl status agent

Configuring the Firewall to Allow Incoming Communication From the Management Service
While the Management Agents in your environment must upload data from your managed hosts to the Management Service, the Management Service must also communicate with the Management Agents. As a result, if the Management Agent is protected by a firewall, the Management Service must be able to contact the Management Agent through the firewall on the Management Agent port.
By default, the Enterprise Manager installation procedure assigns port 1830 to the Management Agent. However, if that port is occupied, the installation may assign an alternate port number.
After you determine the port number assigned to the Management Agent, you must then configure the firewall to allow incoming HTTP or HTTPS traffic (depending upon whether or not you have enabled Enterprise Manager Framework Security) on that port.
As I said already port 1830 was enabled. I did it because I saw that agent status - attached also here.
In case anybody know please tell me who to determine the port assigned to the Mangement Agent...

My /tmp has 1.5 GB of free space so that's really not the issue here. I know that the installation goes well if I use the Universal Installer that comes bundled with 10G RDBMS, but on machines with Oracle 8.1.7.4-9.2.0.5 I wouldn't like to update OUI's because of this issue. Anyone having this problem/solution?
    Br,
    Anssi

The issue is not about silent install or temp or root.
I have installed Agent on Linux without issues after I read closely the oracle requirements on linux.
Make sure you read oracle linux requirement, there is a patch you need to download that will create proper setting for oracle on linux.
Try look for Application Server 10g installation guide, this patch is documented for Application Server 10g on linux.
The patch will create oracle.sh file that linux will run each time user oracle is activated.
If you still get problem let me know through forum or direct.
    Thanks

  • Reconfiguing Grid Control Agent on Solaris 8.

I would like to know if I change my IP and Hostname on my Solaris 8 server if I can reconfigure my grid control agent or do I have to reinstall the agent all together?

Hi, i have a machine with 2 IPs and each IP has it's own name registered on DNS. One is the same as hostname and the other one is used as service name for occasion when the production must be moved to another machine with different IP. In that case service name and service IP remains the same.
Is there a way to configure agent on the service IP instead the one registerd with hostname? Or perhaps change hostname in GC configuration to service name?
Because now, i have a situation that listener is listening on interface with service IP, and GC agent can't discover it.
    Any help is welcome. thanx.

  • Grid control agent and data guard in mount mode

    Hello,
I would like to know how you manage your data guards when you do not have the license for active data guard with the grid control agents. The standby database is in mount mode, so the agents cannot query the database.
What do you guys do in such cases? Remove the agent? Or wait till a switchover?

  • Question about Grid Control Agents on a Veritas Cluster (or any cluster)

Hi, I'm seeking advice on how to setup Grid Control agents on a Veritas Cluster.
My cluster is made up of two Sun M4000 servers running Solaris 10 x64 (node1 and node2), and 8 virtual hosts setup to fail between the nodes. Each of these virtual hosts has several mount points from a SAN, and contain Oracle 9 and 10 homes as well as databases. The versions are 9.2.0.8 and 10.2.0.3.
I have a full grid control agent install on each node to mount points that don't fail over to the other nodes. These agents monitor the nodes themselves.
Now for my question, is it better to do full intalls of the grid agent in each virtual host or to use the "emctl deploy agent" from the full installs already on node1 and node2 to the virtual hosts? Or is there some other, better way to do this.
Either method results in 9 grid control agents on a node if all the virtual hosts are on that box. I've experimented with both agent deploys and installs a bit and found that the cpu usage goes though the roof with that many agents on one server. Maybe I don't have them configured correctly, but every now and then they spike cpu usage to 100%, and these servers have 8, dual core processors in them with 32GB of RAM.
    Thanks for any tips!
Currently, my setup looks something like this, if it helps:
    ORANODE1...........................................ORANODE2
    user: oracle..........................................user: oracle
    full agent install....................................full agent install
    VirtualHost1
    user: ora_user1

Will the agent 10.2.0.3 work with Grid Control 10.2.0.1
    Yes.

  • Reinstall grid control agent, db agent, weblogic agent

    Hi,
I installed oem 11g in testing environment. However, I reinstall the oms due to wrong operation. For agent side, I installed grid control agent, db agent, weblogic agent. Any official document can follow to re-install the agent...or I just re-install it by using "fresh installation". Many thx!
    Gil

if you want just to reinstall the agent you could delete the $AGENT_HOME directory and cleanup the file "inventory.xml" ($ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory/ContentsXML).
But you could use the GUI of the installer as well and delete the agent the "official" way...
If want to reinstall the OMS, GC repository and/or the WLS as well I would suggest that you take a look into the documentation
    under http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11857_01/index.htm

  • Allow grid control agent to connect to a database as sys with no listener

    Hi
I have a database which I would like to monitor using the 10g grid control agent.
the agent and DB are on a Unix Box
The database has a listener, but because it is part of a contingency system we keep the listener shut down
    my question is:
Is it possible to configure the agent to connect to a Database (as sysdba) without the listener for that database running?

No its is not possible if listener is not running

  • Security concern about grid control agent

I am planning for grid control rollout. Our system administrator is concerned about
security of grid control agent. For example, I do not know the Oracle password,
I sudo to Oracle after login as myself.
What are the options do I have ? I have told my system admin that
other companies use "oracle" - the database sysdba/software owner as agent owner.
But my system admin think this is a big security risk since he has to tell me the
    oracle password

In more explicit terms, what is the security concern you have?
Specifically, I do not see what you mean by the sentence:
when I install grid control agent as "oracle", I provide "oracle "password in order
to run job on our unix server.By "oracle" are you referring to the Oracle Software owner account, by which the Database and/or EM software was installed?
Please explain how the job is related to installation of management agent. If you are talking about running jobs after installation, when agent is configured and running, where and how exaclty are you required to enter "oracle" password?

  • Run Singlular Database Control and Grid Control Agents at the same time????

    Hello,
I have walked into a new job where one of my 1st tasks is installing and configuring EM Grid Control version 10.2.0.3. Most of the individual databases already have singular EM/Database Control also set up for basic monitoring - some are 10.2.0.1 databases; some are 9.2.0.7 databases.
Can I continue to run the existing singular EM Database Controls for monitoring and managing the databases while I am getting connected, the new agents up and running, and the Grid Control templates and alerts and notification fully set up?
Or will I have to shut down those agents fully prior to installing the new 10.2.0.3 agents???
I am hoping so since they use different communication ports of 1158 for the singular Database Controls versus 4889 for Enterprise Wide Grid Control.
Thanks for any help in clarifying this.
    KL

OK, so as long as I keep the homes separate & straight, I could conceivably allow them both (Database Control and Grid Control Agent) to run AND be used at the same time - even when using secured grid control (https), correct? Just have the separate homes for separate agents and use separate ports for the different consoles?
Of course I might still run into an issue with this, ass I am also in the process of securing Grid Control... The current Database Console used by the app users to monitor is NOT an https url...
The real reason for this is because some app users are used to using the EM Database Control for application monitoring. I would like to not take that away from them while I am in the process of setting up all of the users, roles, alerts, groups, etc. on Grid Control.
