Configuration Vs. Customization

Dear friends,
Can you tell me the exact difference between configuration and customization with examples.
I already seen the threads posted on SDN but i m not satisfied with the comments.
Both comments are exactly opposite of each other.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
The difference between cutomizing and configuration is:
- CONFIGURATION: we will configure the system to meet the needs of your business by using the existing data.
- CUSTOMIZING: we will customise or adapt the system to your business requirements, which is the process of mapping SAP to your business process.
Configuration  vs. Customization
When considering enterprise software of any type, it is important to understand the difference between configuration and customization.The crux of the difference is complexity. Configuration uses the inherent flexibility of the enterprise software to add fields, change field names,modify drop-down lists, or add buttons. Configurations are made using powerful built-in tool sets. Customization involves code changes to create functionality that is not available through configuration. Customization can be costly and can complicate future upgrades to the software because the code changes may not easily migrate to the new version.Wherever possible, governments should avoid customization by using configuration to meet their goals.Governments also should understand their vendor's particular terminology with regard to this issue since words like "modifications" or "extensions" often mean different things to different vendors
hope clear to you.

    hi
    Since one legal entity will cease to exist and a new legal entity will come into being, you will have to follow all the period end closure procedures.
    Also you will need the BS,P&L,Cash flow statements then the year end process also will have to be completed,
    A new company code will have to be created and the balances of the old company code will be transferred to the new company code.
    If it suffices that only  the B&S items and the retained earnings need to be transferred then after the year end process the balances can be shifted to the new company code.

    Dear Chandu,
    Configuration means allready the data given by the Standard SAP but we need to arange that data in the proper as per our requirement.
    Example:Pricing procedure dtermination
    Customisation means the data not avail in the standard SAP so we need to develop with the help of ABAPer.
    Example: Zreports,
    I hope it will clear for you,

  • UCCX 5.0 agent desktop configuration and customizations

    Hello,
    My client would like that the chat function be available so that their agents can speak to all agents even if they are on different teams. My understanding is that the chat function is only between supervisors/agents within a team.
    Would there be any way to change this?
    Thank you.

    Hi
    No - teams and CSQs are different concepts.
    Teams determine who can Supervise what - so for example, you can split up large teams so that one Sup can see half the agents that they manage directly and see the CSQs you deem are related to their role.
    CSQs control who the calls are actually routed to.
    So you can have one team (which has all Sups, all agents, and all CSQs associated to it). This means all agents can chat, and all Sups can see all agents and CSQ stats.
    You can still have two CSQs, and the calls will be sent the agents with the correct skills or resource group membership.

    Hi
    <b>Configuration </b>means using the standard SAP functionality & mapping to th clients process
    <b>Customization </b>means modifying the standard SAP for client requirement,It is costly & time taken
    - CONFIGURATION: we will configure the system to meet the needs of your business by using the existing data.
    - CUSTOMIZING: we will customise or adapt the system to your business requirements, which is the process of mapping SAP to your business process.

    And Most Important thing is configuration always will come first then customization.
    CONFIGURATION:
    1. Configuration is everything else done in SPRO.
    2. Configuration is what u do from the existing one in sap.
    Ex: assigning pricing procedure PR00 for a material.
    3. When installing SAP on any system. that’s configuration.
    4. Configuration means using the standard SAP functionality & mapping to the client’s process
    CUSTOMIZATION:
    1. Customizing is modification of the software to meet special customer requirements.
        Changes or additions to ABAP code.
    2. Customization is the changes needed for the existing SAP to meet the business
         Requirement.
         Ex: creating a new pricing procedure which is not existing in the SAP.
    3. Modifications according to business requirement is customization.
    4. Customization means modifying the standard SAP for client requirement, it is costly &
         Time taken.

  • Issue in Product configurator component on Clicking DONE button - Session hung up

    Hi All,
    In our environment, eCommunications and eProdCFGObjMgr are separately configured in different servers..
    When we place order and take through product configurator to customize the product and click DONE button, the eCommunication session itself got hung.

    We resolved the issue by restarting the component and clearing the mentioned cache directory. But i want to analyze deep as why it happened.
    Please reply me if you have come across such issue.
    Thanks,

    To achieve the above, try the below fix:
    var buttonBar:ButtonBar = new ButtonBar();
    buttonBar.requireSelection = true;
    Hopefully this works for you . Cheers!!

  • UITabBarController.moreNavigationController customization?

    My iPhone application has more than five tabs, so the extra view controllers show up under the "More" button. By default, this "More" view shows up as a table view, with black text on a white background. Since every other page in my app uses white text on a black background, I'd like to customize this "More" page as well.
    I am able to customize the Navigation bar using:
    tabbar.moreNavigationController.navigationBar.barStyle = UIBarStyleBlackOpaque;
    But I can not find any way to provide a customized table cell view style for this unusual "More" page.
    Any ideas?

    I've since found a somewhat tidied-up version of this code, but I'm still running into trouble.
    For reference, here is my post on iPhoneDevSDK.com:
    http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/20172-uitabbardelegate- methods-more-configure-navbar-customization.html
    In a nutshell, willBeginCustomizingItems (UITabBarDelegate) never seems to get called, and I'm not exactly sure how to make that happen. In fact, setting something like tabBarController.tabBar.delegate to self will throw an exception (and the UITabBarController Class Reference states as much). Setting tabBarController.delegate to self is fine, but this is not a TabBarController delegate method. It's a TabBar delegate method. :\

  • Jdev11 Tab selection and Enable User Customization on Session bug.

    When you have enabled User Customization for duration of session then what ever user changes on a page it remains the same through out the session,
    ie. Disclosed panel boxes, advanced query criteria, visible columns of tables in panel collections etc.
    The problem is that you cant customize which properties to be kept or not :
    ++Fusion Developer's Guide for Oracle ADF & 34.3 Configuring User Customizations:++
    ++Note+: If you've enabled just session persistence, then all attribute values shown in Table 34-1 will be persisted to the session.+
    There is no way to override this either globally or on an instance.
    The bigger problem is that if you have some business logic about these components appearance or behavior you can’t override user settings.
    Is this a bug?
    Shouldn’t business logic methods override user customization settings?
    Will User Customization for duration of session become configurable?
    details :[http://adfbugs.blogspot.com/2009/09/tab-selection-and-enable-user.html]

    Hi,
    Is this a bug?
    Don't think so. I assume your business logic is dependent on the disclosure state, which usually is reset after each navigation off and on to a page. Using change persistence you explicitly allow the user to keep the changes. So your business logic cannot rely on a changed state.
    The proposed enhancement request to prevent components from perisisting changes sound fair. I'll file one.
    But it isn't that you can't override the persisted information for a component. You can use teh ChangeManager API that is exposed on the ADFFacesContext to override persistence information
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15051_01/apirefs.1111/e10684/oracle/adf/view/rich/change/ChangeManager.html
    For example, using a change disclosure event:
      boolean isDisclosed = < whatever you like to set >;
      //Record a Change for 'disclosed' attribute
      AttributeComponentChange aa =
      new AttributeComponentChange('disclosed', isDisclosed ? Boolean.TRUE : Boolean.FALSE);
      AdfFacesContext adfContext = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
      //set disclosed state to component. Here you override the user choice
      adfContext.getChangeManager().addComponentChange(getFacesContext(), event.getSource(), aa);Frank
