Configurator in cs5

I may be jumping the gun here, but at a cursory glance »What's new in Photoshop CS5«
(http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/whatsnew/index.html?segment=photography& promoid=FDTEW)
does not seem to make any mention of Configurator – so do any of you know (possibly from beta-testing, if the non disclosure agreement allows divulging the information yet) if Configurator will work at all in CS5 or even be part of the standard installation?

Hi,
Computer specs: Win7 64 bit, I720, 12GB mem, 2.5TB hard disk space, Saphire ATI 4850 video 1GB mem. The computer has pretty high specs and should be fast. Files range is size from 80mb to ~1GB.
I rebuilt all of my panels, placing the files in the correct folders and trying to optimize anywhere I could. Tested some commands which had script and action versions and did not see much difference in speed.
Some commands are slow enough that I start working before the command has been finalized - ie. changing from one layer to another and setting a preset brush.  I click the command on the panel and go to the spot on the image I am working on. I often find that as I start working, the old command is still in effect and the new one has not finalized. Leads to very bad results like erasing when I expect to be painting. It is very distracting because I have to break my concentration and look at the icons and options bar so that I know when I can start working.
One set of commands that takes about 2 sec, sometimes less, sometimes more, are some stamp actions. It sets the layer to my working layer for retouching then sets a stamp preset that may be normal 100%, lighten 50%, or darken 50% (3 different commands). My basic layer structure has about 10 layers to start with but that may increase by 30 or 40 as I select areas and apply curves or H/S to them. I can keep that number down by merging down as I go along but then I loose the ability (non-destructive) to make adjustments on work that I've completed. I can recover, but it is lots of work as I have to recreate everything.
Of course not all commands are that bad but there are enough that work too slowly to drop production.

  • How do you configure AME CS5.5 to overwrite existing output files?

    How do you configure AME CS5.5 to overwrite existing output files?  So far the only options I have found are to increment the output file name or fail.  From the explaination of file increment I would have expected overwrite to be the alternative.  We work daily with the same file(s) on an hourly basis and convert via watch folder to over a dozen file types and network mapped destinations.  Re-using the same file name is critical to the final project (updating website content). Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Has there been any updates on overwriting output files in CS6? This would be extremely helpful.

    I am looking to build a new PC especially for eiditng with CS5 we do a weekly hour long high school sports show and will edit in HD next season with JVC Gy HD 200 cameras injesting HDV video through both tape and hard drives to edit on several computers but this new computer will host the entire show. We will ned to export to a .mov format so will need to install quicktime.
    I am looking at the Nvidia 4800 card an intel I7 6 core processor, a 124 gb solid state drive to house the OS and Ppro Cs5 along with two internal drives for storage. We will install 24 gb ram. Will this computer be very fast or is there a better configuration you can suggest?

  • Configuring Photoshop CS5 to open in 32bit by default for multiple users

    I've set up a lab with Photoshop CS5 installed on 60 macs which will be logged on by 1200 domain users and I need Photoshop to open in 32bit mode as default for each user so it will be compatible with our printer. Rather than having to administer PS manually to 32 bit for each user, would I be right in thinking I could create one copy of the Photoshop app set to open in 32bit mode and then copy it to all the other macs to replace the original 64bit configured versions so they would all open in 32bit by default for all users?
    Anyone know if this might work or if there is an alternative way?
    Thanks for any advice

    I was off the mark with this but found the solution. I was informed the preference file to launch in 32 or 64 bit mode is the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist which resides in the user preferences folder. So by configuring the Photoshop app via 'Get Info' to 32bit and copying this out to another users prefs folder then PS opens in 32 bit for that user as well. To get this to work for all users on login I created an automator workflow and dropped it in the App folder of every mac and this is triggered by running it as a login-in items in the computer group in workgroup Manager.

  • Adobe CS5 Configuration Error 16

    Hi,
    I am having an issue on my Macs running Adobe CS5 installed via Adobe's default installer with a volume license key. I have local non-adminstrator mobile user accounts that authenticate to open directory. They are non syncing.
    On some machines, when a mobile user logs in and tries to run any Adobe app, there is a pop up with CS5 Configuration Error 16. Please reinstall Adobe CS5. I've checked the permissions of the directories listed in http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/configuration-error-cs5.html#main_AdobeP CD
    and they are correct. I've determined that the root cause is a cache.db-journal file that belongs to a different user. If I delete this file (as admin), the problem goes away. What causes this file to exist? What causes it to persist between users? Should I add a login script to delete the cache.db-journal file if it exists?
    Thanks.

    I finally got everything working, despite the ineffectual help of the Adobe support team. Maybe my solution will be helpful.
    I loaded a duplicate of my system saved BEFORE installing the Cloud Manager onto another drive. Then I loaded the Cloud Manager onto my current boot drive and sure enough, got the Error 16. Then I loaded the OLD version of the Adobe PCD file from my duplicate drive. No go. Then I loaded the OLD SLStore file. Still Error 16.
    BUT then I replaced the SLCache folder and BINGO! problem gone. I noticed in the folder is another called SLConfigs. I am not sure it is a permissions issue or something that happens to this file when the Cloud Manager updates these files, but by reloading the pre-install version of this foldeer I have fixed the problem. I repeated the fix on another machine. I have now downloaded the CC apps with no issues.

  • Configuration Error 15: CS5 Photoshop for Mac OSX

    I have been running Photoshop on my computer for quite a while. This morning, when I tried to open the program, I received a Configuration Error: 15 and was told to uninstall and reinstall the program. I did this (twice), and still receive the same error.
    I searched all throughout the forums, and the only answer I could find was in regards to error 16 (seems like a similar problem), and followed this link: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/configuration-error-cs5.html
    Unfortunately, my computer does not appear to have the SLS Store or Adobe PCD folders in the Library/Application Support/Adobe folder, so I cannot try this solution to see if it works for me.
    I have successfully opened InDesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver today. Only Photoshop is not working.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • DW CS5 - PHP in HTML file - no display in DW live view

    Have DW CS5, Local IIS 7 (Win 7 64x) testing server (Server Model: PHP MySQL) set up and working. External browsers render .html files with PHP fine (URL=http://localhost/testphp.html), DW Live View will not parse/display the PHP with ".html" extension. No ".htaccess" file, DW PHP Tag Library has all PHP "Used In:" boxes checked. Example:
    Example 1
    File name: testphp.php
    <html>
    <body>
    <h1>Hello There</h1>
    <script language="php">
    echo "Hello World";
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    DW Live View and external browser URL: http://localhost/testphp.php:
    Hello There
    Hello World
    Example 2
    File name: testphp.html (same content as above, just filename extension changed)
    <html>
    <body>
    <h1>Hello There</h1>
    <script language="php">
    echo "Hello World";
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    DW Live View:
    Hello There
    external browser URL: http://localhost/testphp.html:
    Hello There
    Hello World
    How to configure DW CS5 to display PHP in DW Live View with file extension= ".html"?
    Thanks in advance, have spent 2 days trying to accomplish!
    Steve

    File name: testphp.php
    <html>
    <body>
    <h1>Hello There</h1>
    <script language="php">
    echo "Hello World";
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    This is not PHP code
    The red code part should read as to be classified as PHP script
    <?php echo "Hello World"; ?>
    File name: testphp.html (same content as above, just filename extension changed)
    <html>
    <body>
    <h1>Hello There</h1>
    <script language="php">
    echo "Hello World";
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    Apart from the same mistake as above, this file will not be recognised as containing PHP without the PHP extension. You can setup the server to accept HTML and to interpret same as PHP, but I would not recommend this.
    DW Live View:
    Hello There
    external browser URL: http://localhost/testphp.html:
    Hello There
    This is amazing! With the code above? If you hadn't told me I would not have believed it. I tried it on my humble setup and you are correct. It works using the PHP file but not the HTML file. It doesn't matter, it is still not correct.
    How to configure DW CS5 to display PHP in DW Live View with file extension= ".html"?
    It is not up to DW to determine, it is the PHP server that determines whether PHP in an HTML file will be shown. Have a look here http://php.about.com/od/advancedphp/p/html_php.htm .Once again, I do not recommend this
    I hope this helps.

  • Need help choosing optimal hardware for a laptop that will run AE CS5

    BACKGROUND INFO (Questions listed below)
    I need some help figuring out the best hardware configuration for a new laptop. I’m a student at a design school and I will be using the laptop to mainly run After Effects and to a lesser extent Photoshop and Illustrator. I don’t need to worry about 3D rendering software or Premier Pro. I am primarily interested in getting the best performance during editing. I am not looking for the best performance for final output. I would prefer to sacrifice final output times for better editing/interface performance.
    I will be working with standard definition content and perhaps HD up to 720p on occasion. I do not need to operate in resolutions higher than 720p. My projects are generally animation and use many sources and many layers.
    I’ve been reading up on optimal hardware configurations for CS5 but my understanding is still a little foggy and I would like to use this thread to figure out how to build the best machine for my budget. The budget is about $1400 to $1600 CANADIAN after tax.
    I DON’T need help finding the laptop. I will search for it on my own. I just need to understand the best hardware to purchase within my budget.
    I realize that it is probably impossible to buy the laptop I want with the hardware configuration I need “off the shelf”. Instead I will be looking for a good base model (~$900-$1100) and I will purchase the necessary hardware upgrades separately. I will not be purchasing a Mac.
    Right now I’m thinking of a machine built something like this:
    - 15”-16” screen (17” models are too big/heavy)
    - Mid to high end i5 processor OR entry level i7 quad core
    - 8GB RAM (I would go to 12GB, but it’s hard to find a 15”-16” laptop with 3 memory slots)
    - SSD to replace HDD (However, if possible, I would like a laptop with dual HDD support or swap the optical drive for another HDD. If I had access to 2 drives, I would have and HDD/SSD combo).
    - Medium/high end NVIDIA GPU to take advantage of OpenGL while editing.
    QUESTIONS
    1) Does the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” option enhance general editing performance (applying filters, scrubbing through the timeline, reverting history states)? Or does it ONLY help speed up RAM previews and final output? Does it reduce the length of RAM previews?
    1b) Is this option even necessary to enable on 64bit systems? (As far as I understand it was used to solve a problem where 32bit systems/software would only recognize 4GB of RAM per instance of AE).
    1c) If I turn this option on to help with RAM previews, would I be hindering general editing performance in any way? Or does this option have basically zero drawbacks?
    2) How come “Actual CPUs that will be used” will read 0 even if the sum total of RAM assigned to the CPUs plus the RAM reserved for other applications is less than the total available system RAM (on a 64bit system)? For example, I currently have 4GB RAM and 2 installed CPUs. I have 1.5GB reserved for other programs and when I set 0.75GB per CPU both CPUs are used. However when I set 1GB per CPU then 0 CPUs are used, even though the total RAM adds up to only 3.5GB.
    CPU
    3.) Considering the fact that I am more concerned with smooth performance while editing rather than final output speeds, would it be better to get a dual core i5 clocked around 2.5 or a quad core i7 clocked around 1.8?
    4.) What is the difference between an i3 and an i5 processor even if they are clocked at the same speed? How does an i5 460M compare on the grand scheme of things?
    RAM
    6.) Should the quantity of RAM that I get (8GB vs 12GB) be based on the number of cores in my CPU? If so, how should I be calculating optimal RAM based on # of cores. Should I also be counting threads, or just actual physical cores?
    STORAGE/SWAP
    7.) Should I replace the HDD with an SSD? I'm looking for snappy interface performance while editing. I would think that if the RAM fills up it would be best to have the SSD for scratch/cache.
    8.) What performance benchmarks are most important when considering an SSD for After Effects? (4k writes? IOs per second? Max read/write?)
    9.) I can afford the OCZ Vertex2 120GB SSD. Would this be a good choice if an SSD is recommended?
    10.) Would it be better to have 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or 12GB of RAM and an HDD? Explain why.
    GPU
    10.) After Effects utilizes OpenGL to enhance editing performance. I will not really be using Premier Pro, so catering to the CUDA Mercury Engine is not a concern. Do high end gaming cards provide significant gains in OpenGL performance? Or do OpenGL performance gains taper off around the mid-range GPUs? (i.e. can you justify buying a high end GTX 260M graphics card for enhanced editing performance versus an "entry level" dedicated card like the 310M?)
    11.) What hardware specs are most important when considering a GPU for editing performance in AE? (Memory size? # of Pixel shaders? Core speed? Shader speed?)
    Thanks so much for any answers you can offer to these questions.

    Please make sure that you've read through this page and what it points to.
    > 1) Does the “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” option

    the timeline, reverting history states)? Or does it ONLY help speed up
    RAM previews and final output? Does it reduce the length of RAM
    previews?
    It only increases rendering speed for RAM previews and rendering for final output. In After Effects CS5, it doesn't decrease the length of RAM previews. (In CS4, it does.)
    1b) Is this option even necessary to enable on 64bit
    systems? (As far as I understand it was used to solve a problem where
    32bit systems/software would only recognize 4GB of RAM per instance of
    AE).
    You misunderstood. Yes, it's still relevant on 64-bit computers. Moreso, in a way. (I'd rather not spend my entire Sunday writing out detailed answers to satisfy idle curiosity, so I'm not going to give all the technical detail to that answer.)
    > 1c) If I turn this option on to help with RAM previews,
    would I be hindering general editing performance in any way? Or does
    this option have basically zero drawbacks?
    It takes a small but nonzero time for the background processes to start up when they need to be used and shut down when they're done. And as they sit waiting, they take up a little bit of memory. So, it's not exactly correct to say that there are no downsides to leaving it on. But it's close. I leave it on.
    > 2) How come “Actual CPUs that will be used” will read 0 even
    if the sum total of RAM assigned to the CPUs plus the RAM reserved for

    4GB - 1.5GB for other software leaves 2.5 GB for After Effects.
    If you have 1GB assigned per background CPU, then the foreground takes 1.2x that = 1.2GB. That leaves 1.3GB for background processes, which is enough for one background process. There's no point in starting only one background process to do rendering, so it doesn't bother. (Note: When background processes are rendering, the foreground process isn't rendering.)
    > 3.) Considering the fact that I am more concerned with
    smooth performance while editing rather than final output speeds, would
    it be better to get a dual core i5 clocked around 2.5 or a quad core i7
    clocked around 1.8?
    Get the quad-core. That gives you a greater total number of cycles. And After Effects works very well with mutliple processors, even beyond Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing. An entirely unrelated sort of multiprocessing (multithreading) spreads work out to multiple processors.
    > 6.) Should the quantity of RAM that I get (8GB vs 12GB) be based on the number of cores in my CPU? If
    so, how should I be calculating optimal RAM based on # of cores. Should
    I also be counting threads, or just actual physical cores?
    The optimum amount is the amount that you can cram into the computer. I'm not kidding. Spend your budget on RAM until you have 4GB installed per processor (and I'm counting the virtual processors due to hyperthreading). If you have a quad-core, that's 8 CPUs with hyperthreading, so the optimum amount of RAM installed is 32GB. You can work with less, but you did ask about optimum. For HD work (i.e., 1920 pixels across), you're OK with more like 3GB installed per CPU. That's what I have at home: 24GB in a quad-core. You're going to assign 2/3 or so of the RAM to After Effects, so 3GB installed per CPU is 2GB per core for HD work in After Effects.
    > 10.) Would it be better to have 8GB of RAM and an SSD, or 12GB of RAM and an HDD? Explain why.
    12GB of RAM. Because After Effects likes RAM. (If you're thinking of deliberatly using virtual memory to swap memory to the hard disk, don't. That's a performance killer.)
    > 10.) After Effects utilizes OpenGL to enhance editing performance.
    Not really. If you're on a limited budget, don't even think about the GPU until you've already got the most RAM, the fastest CPUs, the largest number of CPUs, two fast hard disks, and a couple of good monitors. Then, and only then, should you even consider getting soemthing beyond a non-stock graphics card. Yes, OpenGL can be used to accelerate some things, but that's only for the low-fidelity preview renderer. (Pardon the bluntness, but I want to make sure that you heed this.)

  • Question about my HDD before I install CS5

    I just purchased CS5 and I am currently running an old version of Premiere Pro. I use Windows 7 and have 4GB ram and my OS is on a 700GB drive which is 5400rpm.  I have a 750GB HDD (5400rpm) ready to install as a scratch disk.  I just noticed that CS5 min requirements mentions 7200rpm HDD.  Is this for the scratch disk or OS disk?  With my current configuration, will CS5.5 install and run at all?  Should I bother installing the new scratch disk or send it back.  Does 5400 rpm just mean poorer performance or will CS5.5 crash?

    Frederic is quite correct - when I increased the RAM in my laptop to the max allowed of 8GB, performance was much smoother.
    Replacing the system hard drive with a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid 7200 rpm produced a further, but smaller improvement.

  • PhotoShop CS5 (PS CS5) will not start

    While configuring PS CS5, I removed the check
    mark on my c:\scratch disc because I do not want
    scratch files running on my systems disk. I kept
    the scratch disks on my e:\, k:\, and g:\ drives and
    configured them to be used in that order by PS
    CS5.
    After completing the configuration, I restarted PS
    CS5. Now, when PS CS5 starts the initialization
    process and begins to load the scratch disks, the
    startup routine fails.
    I get a dialog box with an Adobe Photoshop CS5
    Extended error box, which contains a red circle
    with an X that indicates an error, and the message
    "Could not open a scratch file because the file is
    locked or you do not have the necessary
    privileges. Use the 'Properties' command in
    Windows Explorer to unlock the file."
    First the dialog box does not name the file to
    unlock, so I do not know which file suffix indicates
    what is and what is not a scratch file. Secondly, I
    do not want to use my system drive, c:\, for a
    scratch disk. Finally, how do you configue PS CS5
    to properly restart, after the scratch disk
    configuration is changed, after installation? This
    seems to be the primary problem and I have never
    observed it in any other release.

    Hi Luther, what you say isn't the normal case.  I actually have my scratch drive pointed at D: only and don't see the problem you are seeing.
    It still sounds as if Photoshop cannot write to your other drive.  These kinds of problems can arise if a disk is moved from a system to another system, or if a different user sets up the system initially.
    Do you see the problem if you start Photoshop via "Run as Administrator" (as Kathleen suggested above), or temporarily reduce your UAC level?
    Keep in mind you're not actually running with privileges on Windows 7, even though your account may be an administrator account.  You have to elevate the privileges (or disable UAC, which has some downsides if you don't fully understand the security model).

  • Anyone using GridIron NucleoPro 3 with cs5/cs6 please?

    hello,  this is probably digging up bones from the past
    however, are there any users using GridIron NucleoPro 3 with cs5/cs6?
    just wanting to chitchat about it if possible
    thanks in advance, j

    I still have one machine configured with CS5 and Nucleo Pro, because it offers some functionality that AE->AME workflow does not.
    AME is a great way to background render individual output files, but it lacks the sophistication of the Render Queue when you need to render specifics and multiple files.  I have an ongoing job that requires the weekly generation of around 30 categories of an award show.  Each category (project) requires the output of two video files and two stills from specific parts of the timeline of one comp.  These output parameters, including output formats, locations and in-out points, are stored in the project template's Render Queue.  As far as I'm aware, there's no easy way to move all these parameters to AME easily - a great deal of manual interaction would be required to generate each of the 120 output files from 30 projects each week.  Whereas, using Nucleo I just hit render and keep working.  It's literally a one click workflow.
    It's a shame there isn't a "Send After Effects Render Queue to Adobe Madia Encoder" function.  I must lodge a feature request.
    Nucleo Pro does a great job of background rendering, and I do miss it's availability in later versions of AE.  There is also a script available over at AE Scripts that background renders.

  • Configuration Error 16 on Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium

    Hello,
    I recently began receiving a Configuration Error 16 message when I attempt to launch any of the CS6 applications.
    I attempted to follow the instructions here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/configuration-error-cs5.html
    However, when I attempted to go to the SLStore and Adobe PCD folders in Finder, I discovered that neither folder actually exists.  (I'm guessing this may be a key cause of the problem.)
    I am wary of uninstalling and reinstalling, simply because I was provided a free download of CS6 Design and Web Premium by the University of California, Berkeley, which I attend.  I can produce my software license number upon request.
    Simply, how do I go about fixing this problem?  If a full uninstall and reinstall are the solution, will I be able to do so freely?
    I am using Mac OS 10.8.4
    Thank you very much,
    Chad
