It seems that you do not understand the problem at hand. I can listen on a m3u list using iTunes, VLC and other players, but I wish to listen on m3u lists as streaming music when I am on sites such as eMusic. For instance, I cannot listen on sample music at eMusic, but must download it first. Thus, it is not possible to listen on streaming music with Firefox. On the other hand, Opera and Safari handle m3u streaming music very well.
Can you listen streaming music or samples at eMusic using Firefox without downloading m3u-list on your local disk?

  • Does my Server need audio installed for streaming audio and video

I have flash media streaming server installed onto my s
erver and wondered whether i actually need a sound card on my server to enable audio to be streamed. I was told i
did not??? so how would audio be streamed if no sound card/???

Flash Media Interactive/Streaming/Development Server only stores and serves files hence it doesn't need any audio/video devices installed. The Flash Player or FMLE does need access to local media resource in order to incroporate audio/video data.

  • PCIe Audio Cards for new '09 Mac Pro? (more detailed)

    Hi Guys/Gals
I bit the bullet and just upgraded from my Dual 2.7Ghz (LC) G5 to a new 2.66Ghz 8-core MacPro. I now have to find a PCIe audio card (stereo is fine). I used to use an RME Hammerfall 3296 PCI card in my trusty G5 as an alternative audio out (Digi 003R for ProTools and Logic Pro 8 etc.). Do you know of any PCIe audio cards? I just want to use it for iTunes etc as the Digi doesn't allow play through via core audio etc. I already use the optical with my Logitech surrounds but want to send the iTunes stereo signal to my main amp and pro speakers for auditioning cd's and songs.
    Thanks in advance!
    Bobs

Good point on obsolete! I'm sure there's some new flavour on the way soon too.
Basically, all my firewire ports are used up, I have a Digidesign 003R, 2 FW 800 externals, a FW 400 external HD and an Apple iSight. I tried a Kingston FW hub but got lots of crashes/freezes with it so i can up on that! I may have to resort to either a USB type I/O (lots to choose from there). Someone suggested I use an Airport Express but the problem is that Apple's core audio sends the same signal out the analog audio as it does the optical outs too so I need a completely separate device.
You're right though, I may have to give in on the PCIe card option as most cards are for high end audio and I don't need that. I only need to play stereo tracks from iTunes to my main amplifier.
    Thanks again!

need stereo mix in my soundax controls in order to DJ with my new pc...so far I can only find fix for Vista and XP 64 bit which after download has stereo mic option...can you help?
    annie

try external USB sound card option, m-audio or creative are a couple off the top of my head you could use. they usually come with a full driver and product suit that  can achieve a much better sound than the soundmax in touchsmart have to offer.

  • G4 Sawtooth fast enough for streaming audio?

I have a G4 Sawtooth (500mhz, 1Gb ram) and like to use it to host and stream audio via a quicktime player. My upload is 386kb per sec. Is this unit fast enough?
probably there are buffers in the quicktime player or other if it's slow?

I can't find any numbers, but I can't imagine that's not fast enough. I didn't stream, but via Airport played several songs stored on another Mac using QT Player.

  • Low Audio Level for USB Audio device

    Hello,
I'm recording a voice over for a keynote presentation.
-The internal mic records just fine, but when I use an external usb mic, the level into keynote registers very low.
    - in the system preferences the audio input for this exteral mic is perfectly fine.
-the mic has been tested in a pc and records just fine at a good level
-the same thing happens when I run a mic through a mixing board and use the line in on the mac...it shows up fine in audio settings, but has a low level in keynote.
    any ideas?

I'm glad you mentioned the preset, Silal. I kept meaning to bring that up, but forgot.
Set Preprocessing to None. That will keep high level short duration sounds, like drums, etc., from overtaking your dialog, and crushing it.
The way DIALNORM is intended to work, you set it to the average level of your dialog from your editing app. If you're working in FCP, then that might be something like -12. That setting will cause the player to attenuate the level so dialog is attenuated by 19dB (-31 minus -12 = 19dB of attenuation by the player).
That, in turn, allows the ridiculously loud music and nat sounds in the film soundtrack to sound "more natural", as they blast your ear drums into bits. "More natural" means "much louder than dialog, just like they are in real life".
Bah, humbug! Let me hear what the talent is saying. I don't care if I can hear every nuance of that rock ballad, I just want to be able to follow the story, the plot.
Hey, I'm an old dude, you whippersnappers.
But back to the point, by setting DIALNORM to -31, the player works out the math like this:
    -31 minus -31 = 0dB of attenuation
So, your level should be exactly what it was before the compression/conversion. Why it isn't is a mystery, still.

  • Setting for 'Connect Oracle Via Internet'

I want to connect my oracle server 10g via internet by creating service using static/dynamic IP

    piyukharwar wrote:
I want to connect my oracle server 10g via internet by creating service using static/dynamic IPThis is no different than normal LAN IP connectivity. IP is IP - whether over a LAN, WAN of the Internet. The client IP needs connectivity to the server IP. Ther server IP needs to be able to respond to the client IP.
There are certain restrictions though - such as private IP address ranges that are not supported and routed on the Internet.
If you for example use such an IP address for your database service, you will need to enable NAT firewalling on your Internet router - allowing for example connections from the net to your router's tcp port 1521, where the router will NAT these to your database server (running a private IP) on port 1521.
Word of warning though - usually not a good idea to expose your database directly to the Internet. You need to harden the Listener and the database if you want to do this in a safe and secure manner. And consider using encrypted IP connectivity for running OCI client-server connections across.

  • Don't know how to configure wireless card for internet

hi i just move to a new place, and i do not know how to set up my mac for wireless connection. i was given the basic information for the internet to work, and it works for my pc but not on mac. i was given
    Network Name (ESS-ID or SSID)
    WEP Key Type (Encryption type)
    WEP Key Format
    WEP Key
where do i go to fill in these info for internet?
please teach me what i m missing for i m not familiar with network. thank u.

Airport is what Apple's trade name is for 802.11 wireless. If you have wireless in the computer, you have Airport. To see if you have Airport, on your menu bar, go under the  and choose "About This Mac." Click on "More Info." About midway down the list on the left, you'll see "Airport." Click on it. That will tell you whether you are wireless-capable or not.
If you do not have Airport, you will need to tether up to the router directly using an ethernet cable if you want internet access or else upgrade the computer with an Airport Extreme card.
If you do have Airport, on your menu bar, go under the  and choose System Preferences > Network >Show: > Airport>. Click on Network. If "locked," click on the padlock (lower left corner) to authenticate. Once authenticated, click on Show: and choose Airport. Click on Advanced (lower right corner). Click on "+" below "Preferred Networks" window. Answer the questions that you are asked, which will cover those four items (SSID and WEP info).
(Texas Mac Man: that link points to a guide for the Airport Express stand-alone wireless access point using /Applications/Utilities/Airport Utility, not for how to configure your Mac's built-in Airport Extreme card via System Preferences > Network. I could be wrong but I think annie.ryu is wanting information to configure the computer's Airport/Airport Extreme card via Sys Prefs' Network panel)

  • Where is the temporary file located for streaming audio or video?

I've noticed that when listening to streaming radio that Safari (v. 4.0.2, MacBook, Leopard 10.5.8) is apparently storing the feed temporarily someplace on my computer, as one is able to go forward and back on the content, if one has paused the feed for awhile. Where is this temporary file located, i.e., what is the path on my computer for it (assuming that is where it is), please?

"Audio and video file that do download by way of Safari (progressive download) ...there are temp file, but the temp files themselves can't be open."
Thanks for your answer. Sorry for using the wrong term (streaming v. progressive), but my basic question still remains: WHERE then is the progressive temp file stored on my Mac (even if it can't be opened)?

  • Flash Player for Streaming Audio

I am trying to find out whether it’s possible to do
    something with the Flash Player.
I produce an Internet Radio show on fly fishing,
www.askaboutflyfishing.com. We interview guest experts on a
teleconference call and stream the audio live over the Internet.
Our current broadcast company delivers the audio stream in
the form of a Windows Media Player codec, which our listeners play
    with Windows Media Player.
Is it possible to use a Flash Player to play this same live
    stream?
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
    Thanks,
    D. Roger Maves

Flash uses the Flash Media Server to stream live content,
this content needs to be pushed through the Media Server to go out
to any of your listeners using flash. Since you are already using a
service to pump out a WMA stream they should be able to push this
to a Flash server as well, but because they use different codecs
and different streaming protocols you can not use the same
    stream.

  • Sound/Audio card for G4 Sawtooth

I have a great old 450 MHz Sawtooth that has a PowerLogix Powerforce 7457 CPU upgrade, and has woefully, recovered limping slightly from its second bout with lightning. Even with a great surge suppressor, the nic and sound cards seem to get fried on these machines when a good one hits. But I so love this machine. It just seems to want to live forever. I am looking for a sound card since the integrated sound card is not working.
I've read posts here, but none seem to be newer than 2006. Drivers for the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 and 7.1, which are both recommended in those older posts, don't reach past OS 10.4.4. My system is running 10.4.10. The M-Audio Audiophile 2496 seems to sell for about the same price (+/- $100) and is a higher-end card that has drivers for 10.4.10.
The Mac is currently hooked up to our flat screen HD television and after learning of the 2496 I'm thinking of hooking up my stereo receiver and speakers and loading all my music on this Mac. Seems that would be a great set up and that the card would support it.
I know it has great sound and features from reviews here and elsewhere. What I need to know is if anyone can confirm that as of the present--Oct. 2007--that the 2496 is a good choice in terms of operability and stability--and if I can indeed use it as I'm thinking.
I also want to know if there are any other companies making sound cards that are good for this Mac and that seem to keep their drivers up to date. I don't want to buy hardware that is iffy on the long-term support of its use by the manufacturer. Evidence suggests the 2496 carries that kind of commitment from M-Audio. Any others worth considering?

    Hi, Debbie -
Can't speak for a sound card. But, regarding this -
...its second bout with lightning. Even with a great surge suppressor, the nic and sound cards seem to get fried on these machines when a good one hits.
Surge suppressors do not provide protection against lightning, not even the very good ones. Lightning is wild electricity - it is quite capable of jumping past a surge suppressor, or even coming in laterally. I experienced an incident where it fried an ethernet cable and switch, but left all other attached devices untouched.
One can get a lighning suppressor, but they are the size of a small room and cost in the thousands.
The only real protection is to unplug the equipment when an electrical storm is in the area. Turning the gear off, even at the surge suppressor, is not sufficient - the ground connection must be broken in order to make the equipment non-attractive to lightning, and switching off power does not do that.
This means physically disconnecting the power leads - unplugging the surge suppressor is sufficient to do that for all devices plugged into it - and disconnecting the phone wire or cable used with the modem. It also means disconnecting any other attached devices which lead to ground or unplugging those devices from power, such as a stereo system or a USB, ethernet, or firewire device which is plugged into power separately (such as a printer).
Sounds like a lot of work, but by adding extra power strips or surge suppressors you can make it easy. In my system (two G4s, printer, modem, several external firewire drives, external sound systems) I can unplug and deground everything in less than 15 seconds after shutting the Macs down. Reconnecting is just as fast.

  • Audio skips when streaming from the internet (pandora/grooveshark).

I'm using airport extreme, wired connection, to a macbook pro (2011) and mac pro (2009). audio skips on both devices when streaming from pandora or grooveshark. problem has persisted through system upgrades, clean installs etc... Problem persists through different web browsers (Firefox/chrome/safari)
Ironicaly, Itunes radio does not skip, neither does netflix.
I have seen COUNTLESS posts regarding this problem from many different APPLE users. I would love to see apple address this problem...

Your first step is to determine if there is an issue with this specific movie or if it's a universal problem.  Does ANYTHING from the MBP provide both sound and video?
Another thought is DRM coding but that should affect both video and audio.  If the movie has DRM coding and your television does not, then the movie won't play.  I'm not an expert but I don't think that that's your problem because you do get the video.
