Configure FireWire Device for 2 Nodes RAC

Hi All,
I'm trying to configure FIREWIRE hard disk to be used in 2 nodes RAC.
When i'm trying the following it gives this error:
[root@linux02 ~]# dmesg | grep sbp2

ieee1394: sbp2: Number of active logins: 1
ieee1394: sbp2: Logged into SBP-2 device
when i'm trying fdisk it shows:
[root@linux02 ~]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80032038912 bytes

What should i do to resolve this issue!!!!
Plz help me.

So it seems that one grabbed exclusive use? (despite what dmesg says)

In the past I had problems if one node is runing windows and using firewire disk while I was trying to setup linux in the other node
If this does not help post your problem in http://www.linux1394.org/ and read "Having Trouble"

    Hi
What would be economical & of good quality RAW storage device for 10g RAC setup
    Thanks
    JIL

Sorry, but what do you mean shared networK?
Yes you need to ensure 2+ server hosts can access the storage array, but if you array can handle multiple direct connections then this is perfectly acceptable for RAC - this is Direct Attached Storage DAS.
Your original post made me think of NAS which may not be what you were meaning, but is how I read network device - NAS, NFS kinda thing - which is NOT a requirement for RAC.

The best is you use ASM (maybe you do it already) and put one failure group on the first disk array and the second failure group on the second array. Then you can ASM let do the work.

  • How many Scan Listeners, we have to configure for 5 Node RAC?

    Dear Professionals,
How many scan Listeners we need to configure for 5 Node RAC? Oracle will not allow us to create More than 3 scan's? What If i have one scan Listener per each for 1st 3 node's? what about remaining two Node's? How application user will connect to 4 or 5 Node? Can you please explain..? Forgive me, If am totally wrong?
    Thanks
    Sagar

Each of the 5 instances will register itself with the scan listener (using the instance parameter remote_listener).  Thus, the scan listener is "aware" of the database instances on the other two nodes where it is not running.  It can still redirect incoming connections to the local listeners on these nodes (registered as local_listener).

  • For 4 node RAC database on Exadata x3-2, how many scan IP I should assign?

We want to build a 4 node RAC 11gr23 on exadata x3-2.  Oracle only recommend 3 ip for scan listener. by previous observation of non-exadata RAC, seems each node will spread randomly one Scan Ip address. So if we assign 3 ip to one scan listener, how that will work on a 4-node RAC?
    Thanks

    You're welcome
    by Load balancing
Oracle RAC databases increase load balancing by using the single client access name (SCAN) for the cluster to balance connections among all instances in a cluster database. SCAN also adds location independence for the databases, so that client configuration does not have to depend on which nodes are running a particular database or database instance.

Based on the environment, the following actions occur when you use SCAN to connect to an Oracle RAC database using a service name. The numbered actions correspond to the arrows shown in Figure 7-1.

  • Firewire storage for RAC

    DB Version: 11.2.0.2
    OS : Solaris 5.10
We are thinking of setting up a RAC db(Development) with a Firewire 800 device as our Shared storage. We are thinking of buying a 2 port Firewire Storage device mentioned in the below URL along with 2 firewire PCI cards for both of our machines.
    http://www.lacie.com/asia/products/product.htm?id=10330
I have read in other OTN posts that RAC with firewire storage is only good for Demo purpose. Does this mean that it is not good for development DBs at least?

I have read in other OTN posts that RAC with firewire storage is only good for Demo purpose. Does this mean that it is not good for development DBs at least?Oracle "supports" this in a pure development environment. There is (or was) an Oracle owned mailing list that specifically dealt with this - using firewire shared storage for RAC.
Some years ago I tried it (with a Lacie drive). But could not get both RHEL3 servers to open a connection to the drive. The config was correct, but the 2nd server always failed to establish a connection (complaining something like that no more connections were supported to the drive). I put that one down as a driver bug of sorts - and were not keen to go bug hunting and build the driver from source code. Left it at that - but according to the docs I read (from Oracle) at the time, this was a "valid" config for testing RAC.

  • Configuring networking for 11Gr2 RAC

Hi - I have a couple of questions regarding networking and RAC install.
Please could someone clarify what the Virtual IP requirement is for a RAC node, and how one would actually set this up on OEL5 using a DNS server.
    All input appreciated - thx

    Hi,
I have a couple of questions regarding networking and RAC install.
Please could someone clarify what the Virtual IP requirement is for a RAC node, and how one would actually set this up on OEL5 using a DNS server. You will need the concept before attempting to install because it is not possible to explain the concept of Oracle Clusterware Network (VIP/SCAN) with a few lines.
