Hi,
This document is completely different its talking about Backup & Recovery FLASHBACK RECOVERY AREA.
Is it different from normal FLASH RECOVERY AREA.

Use of Flashback Database in Data guard environments
11.2.0.3/RHEL 5.8
I've come across several docs which talk about configuring FLASHBACK DATABASE in dataguard environments. We have several
Physical standby DBs (Single Instance & RAC) running in our shop.I would like to know two or three major(common) use of FLASHBACK DATABASE in data guard environments.
I understood one use mentioned in the below URL ie. recovering from a logical mistake
http://uhesse.com/2010/08/06/using-flashback-in-a-data-guard-environment/
I would like to know what are the other major/common use of Flashback Database feauture in DataGuard environmentA couple of other uses:
1) You can use flashback to test your DR. So you can activate your standby. Test application/network connectivity and functionality on your DR site and when done revert this database back to a physical standby. You do however have to ensure that this is allowed in your environment. In some places I have worked this would be a big no no as there were zero data loss requirements. However some companies will allow this as long as the standby is back in place within a certain time period.
2) In the case that you have to do a failover for whatever reason, but then what was the primary site becomes available, you can flashback what was your primary to make it the standby rather than re-instatiating the database from scratch.
Eg. You have a power outage at your primary site so you perform a failover and your standby becomes the primary. Once what was your primary site is back online, you can convert your previous primary into a standby by doing a full back/restore (or whatever method you choose) to recreate your standby again. However you also have the option of using flashback on this database and then convert it into a standby as this would potentially be quicker than re-instantiating the standby. -
Problem with deleting Flashback logs
Hi all,
I configured flashback database on my Oracle10g R2 DB that sits on Win 2003 server.
When I issued the command to delete the flashback logs I see that the logs are not deleted.
Please what could be the problem here?
Regards,
CreemsSorry, I should be clearer.
My flashback retention target is 1 day - 1440 ... but that doesnt get deleted automatically, ERROR from Oracle so I hear.
So, I tried to do it manually by putting the DB in mount state and issuing:
ALTER DATABASE FLASHBACK OFF;
Yet never get deleted.
What could the problem be?
Thanks.

Flashback in dataguard environment
Hi,
We have dataguard environment with Sun OS & Oracle 10g, 11g. Now we want to enable flashback for the primary database as well as standby database (physical standby). NO RMAN. I did manage to configure the flashback for the primary database but confusion is:
-- Do I need to configure flashback at standby or recreate standby after enabling flashback at primary site?
-- Suppose if I use flashback database to restore point and open database with resetlogs, what would be the situation at standby site? Will it be in sync with primary or after resetlogs I need to make new standby database??
-- Is there any space requirement ratio for flashback recovery partition?
Thanks,
Amit.If you only enabled flashback on your Primary, your Standby is not affected. If you did actually a flashback database on your Primary, you need to address that on the Standby. See an example here:

Flashback questions for backup -Restore -Recovery
Hello,
We are planning to implement flashback on our database, and i have configured flashback on my development database, but i have some question before adopt backup/recovery solution using flashback.
(1) If i have configured flashback database, and any non-temp datafile will be lost, will flashback will do automatic restore or recovery or what?
(2) Can we do incomplete recovery or point in time recovery using flashback database?
(3) if i revert to one of restore point, then open resetlogs are mandatory or what ?
Thanks and Regards,
V.SINGHHi,
(1) If i have configured flashback database, and any non-temp datafile will be lost, will flashback will do automatic restore or recovery or what?
no. It will not do automatically.
(2) Can we do incomplete recovery or point in time recovery using flashback database?
yes. you can use the restore and recovery method, but you have to disable flashback database during restore and recover time.
(3) if i revert to one of restore point, then open resetlogs are mandatory or what ?
yes, it is required. other wise you can open database in readonly mode.
If you have the metalink access refer below note for more clarity.

Hi all ;
I have some confusion regarding redo apply Vs real time apply.
When applying redo data in standby site , how do we find whether it was done by redo apply or real time apply ?
Please discuss in detail. I need some clarification about this.
Thanks in advance ..Hi baris ,
Thanks .. again little confusion. NO documents to find answer.
If a logical corruption occurs on your primary by a human mistake such as truncate table, wrong delete etc,
so a delayed standby is more appropriate. Furthermore you can configure flashback database feature
on your standby database when you use real time apply.
Is this possible ?
1) Do you mean flashback will be enabled only in standby database except primary database ?
What are the changes made in primary that only transfer to standby if so ,
2) How do we recover deleted objects in standby ?
FYI : I have a doubt with time delay option, we will discuss this things in new thread. please do NOT mind it. -

Incremental EXPDP !!!
Dear all,
I have a production database on windows 2003 server 64 bit with oracle 10.2.0.3 installed. This db has a schema which expdp file is of 33gb, every day I am taking the schema level export and importing the same to my test server.
Moreover, we also had configured flashback database.
Its taking a lot of time to import everyday despite there is little changes in the schema. Our intention is to refresh the test schema every day.
Is there a way to take the incremental expdp/flashback to record only the changes and then import it into the test server.
Thanks.C:\>expdp help=y

The Data Pump export utility provides a mechanism for transferring data objects
between Oracle databases. The utility is invoked with the following command:
Example: expdp scott/tiger DIRECTORY=dmpdir DUMPFILE=scott.dmp
You can control how Export runs by entering the 'expdp' command followed
by various parameters. To specify parameters, you use keywords:
Format: expdp KEYWORD=value or KEYWORD=(value1,value2,...,valueN)
Example: expdp scott/tiger DUMPFILE=scott.dmp DIRECTORY=dmpdir SCHEMAS=scott
or TABLES=(T1:P1,T1:P2), if T1 is partitioned table
USERID must be the first parameter on the command line.
Keyword Description (Default)
ATTACH Attach to existing job, e.g. ATTACH [=job name].
COMPRESSION Reduce size of dumpfile contents where valid keyword.
values are: ALL, (METADATA_ONLY), DATA_ONLY and NONE.
CONTENT Specifies data to unload where the valid keyword
values are: (ALL), DATA_ONLY, and METADATA_ONLY.
DATA_OPTIONS Data layer flags where the only valid value is:
XML_CLOBS-write XML datatype in CLOB format
DIRECTORY Directory object to be used for dumpfiles and logfiles.
DUMPFILE List of destination dump files (expdat.dmp),
e.g. DUMPFILE=scott1.dmp, scott2.dmp, dmpdir:scott3.dmp.
ENCRYPTION Encrypt part or all of the dump file where valid keyword
values are: ALL, DATA_ONLY, METADATA_ONLY,
ENCRYPTED_COLUMNS_ONLY, or NONE.
ENCRYPTION_ALGORITHM Specify how encryption should be done where valid
keyword values are: (AES128), AES192, and AES256.
ENCRYPTION_MODE Method of generating encryption key where valid keyword
values are: DUAL, PASSWORD, and (TRANSPARENT).
ENCRYPTION_PASSWORD Password key for creating encrypted column data.
ESTIMATE Calculate job estimates where the valid keyword
values are: (BLOCKS) and STATISTICS.
ESTIMATE_ONLY Calculate job estimates without performing the export.
EXCLUDE Exclude specific object types, e.g. EXCLUDE=TABLE:EMP.
FILESIZE Specify the size of each dumpfile in units of bytes.
FLASHBACK_SCN SCN used to set session snapshot back to.
FLASHBACK_TIME Time used to get the SCN closest to the specified time.
FULL Export entire database (N).
HELP Display Help messages (N).
INCLUDE Include specific object types, e.g. INCLUDE=TABLE_DATA.
JOB_NAME Name of export job to create.
LOGFILE Log file name (export.log).
NETWORK_LINK Name of remote database link to the source system.
NOLOGFILE Do not write logfile (N).
PARALLEL Change the number of active workers for current job.
PARFILE Specify parameter file.
QUERY Predicate clause used to export a subset of a table.
REMAP_DATA Specify a data conversion function,
e.g. REMAP_DATA=EMP.EMPNO:REMAPPKG.EMPNO.
REUSE_DUMPFILES Overwrite destination dump file if it exists (N).
SAMPLE Percentage of data to be exported;
SCHEMAS List of schemas to export (login schema).
STATUS Frequency (secs) job status is to be monitored where
the default (0) will show new status when available.

valid keyword values are: ALWAYS, (NEVER).
TRANSPORT_FULL_CHECK Verify storage segments of all tables (N).
TRANSPORT_TABLESPACES List of tablespaces from which metadata will be unloaded.
VERSION Version of objects to export where valid keywords are:
(COMPATIBLE), LATEST, or any valid database version.
The following commands are valid while in interactive mode.
Note: abbreviations are allowed
Command Description
ADD_FILE Add dumpfile to dumpfile set.
CONTINUE_CLIENT Return to logging mode. Job will be re-started if idle.
EXIT_CLIENT Quit client session and leave job running.
FILESIZE Default filesize (bytes) for subsequent ADD_FILE commands.
HELP Summarize interactive commands.
KILL_JOB Detach and delete job.
PARALLEL Change the number of active workers for current job.
PARALLEL=<number of workers>.
REUSE_DUMPFILES Overwrite destination dump file if it exists (N).
START_JOB Start/resume current job.
STATUS Frequency (secs) job status is to be monitored where
the default (0) will show new status when available.
STATUS[=interval]
STOP_JOB Orderly shutdown of job execution and exits the client.
STOP_JOB=IMMEDIATE performs an immediate shutdown of the
Data Pump job.Nothing for incrementally updating the clone database.
Once you create a database using logical backup, it's altogether new database i.e. no links with the original database. So it's hard to co-relate the databases.

Are these warning are due to flashback? Is it going to trouble my database operation? If yes how to overcome from it.Hi Jon,
I am not sure if this is possible using any BSP tags or in code.
You can try writing javascript in your htm page to check if it works - there are events in javascript to check window size and other options and you can add javascript in your bsp view htm page.
Something like:
window . on resize = function ( ) {
//your code
OR
< BODY on Resize = "a lert ( 'Thank you for resizing' )" >
You can try searching a bit more on the same lines. Please let us know if got it to work.
Thanks,

What are the required configuration tasks to enable flashback feature?
Hi,
I want to use the flashback feature on a table. Can anyone tell me what are the configuration changes that needs to be done in order to use this feature?

Flashback Table
When a human or application error occurs, you want to be able to restore the state of one or more tables to a point in time before the problem occurred.
You have to set UNDO_RETENTION initialization parameter.

Fast Start Failover has broken my Logical Standby and Flashback has not helped
I have a primary ( PRIMARYP ), a physical standby ( STANDBYP ) and a logical standby ( STANDBYL ).
I configured Fast Start Failover ( with STANDBYP as the target ) and started an Observer. I did a shutdown abort on my primary and the Fast Start Failover did make STANDBYP the primary. I was able to reinstate PRIMARYP as a physical standby.
However when I checked my broker config it gave for STANDBYL
ORA-16795: the standby database needs to be recreated
Strange I though, since I would have expected STANDBYL to survive ok given that the new primary, STANDBYP was a physical standby of PRIMARYP.
Not to worry I thought, I simply will flashback STANDBYL to the beginning of the day and SQL APPLY will reapply all the redo.
This is where the problem begins
I mount STANDBYL

How get rid of flashback info in database documentation?
Hi everyone,
I tried to create a database documentation in SQLDeveloper using the context menu on the connection icon.
For each table SQLDeveloper extracted flashback info, amounting to several GB. It took hours to complete!
Is it possible to disable this feature somehow? I do not want flashback scns to be part of a documentation, for sure!
Any help would be appreciated.
Yours,
qwe15056.I'm assuming you've tried all of the different options when you configure the express VI. That being the case, you should just skip using the Write to Measurement File. It is purposely designed for a limited number of options and it is not a trivial task to edit the function. Much simpler to use some of the lower level file i/o functions such as Write to Spreadsheet File or Write to Text File.

Why the flashback log'size smaller than the archived log ?
hi, all . why the flashback log'size smaller than the archived log ?
Lonion wrote:
hi, all . why the flashback log'size smaller than the archived log ?Both are different.
Flash logs size depends on parameter DB_FLASHBACK_RETENTION_TARGET , how much you want to keep.
Archive log files is dumped file of Online redo log files, It can be either size of Online redo log file size or less depending on online redo size when switch occurred.
Some more information:-
Flashback log files can be created only under the Flash Recovery Area (that must be configured before enabling the Flashback Database functionality). RVWR creates flashback log files into a directory named “FLASHBACK” under FRA. The size of every generated flashback log file is again under Oracle’s control. According to current Oracle environment – during normal database activity flashback log files have size of 8200192 bytes. It is very close value to the current redo log buffer size. The size of a generated flashback log file can differs during shutdown and startup database activities. Flashback log file sizes can differ during high intensive write activity as well.

Flashback Recovery area in Oracle 10g
Hi,
our db_recovery_file_dest_size = 4G after this is filled, when i am logging in as a user, archiver error ORA-00257 has occured. I want to avoid this error coming every time, is there any way to automatically delete some of the files when it (db_recovery_file_dest) is full, like deleting very old flashback logs inorder to retain space & avoid that error. Experts share your experience...
ThanksFrom http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/setup005.htm#sthref271
Exactly which of the eligible files will be deleted to satisfy a space request is unpredictable. The rules governing the selection of specific files for deletion are likely to change between releases and are dependent upon your configuration. The safe and reliable way to control deletion of files from the flash recovery area is to change your retention policy. If you wish to increase the likelihood that files moved to tape are also retained on disk to minimize expected restore and recovery times, increase the flash recovery area quota.
