Configure Indesign server WS to run in SSL mode

How does one configure Indesign server (CS6) WS to run in SSL mode? If not in CS6, how about CC 2014?

1. Notification Mailer supports SSL Inbound and Outbound connection from ATG PF.H RUP 3 onwards only. Since you already see the SSL Enabled checkbox from Workflow Manager, I assume you are on ATF PF.H RUP 3 patchset. Confirm!!
2. For SSL based connections, Concurrent Tier should be configured to support SSL. AF_LD_LIBRARY_PATH should point to $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/lib. The change has to be made in $APPL_TOP/admin/adovars.env (Typically in autoconfig XML file and autconfig run to generate adovars.env file if Autoconfig is enabled)
Is there any exception seen in the mailer log file?

Failed configuring Portal Server. can't run cacaoadm.bat

Hi,
I am trying to install Sun Java ES5 (2006Q4) on window XP. The configuration for portal server was failed. When I checked the logs, it complains cacao default instance was disabled and couldn't started. I went to the the directory and tried to manually run cacaoadm command. It returns:
C:\Sun\JavaES5\share\cacao_2\bin>cacaoadm.bat enable
This action cannot be performed by a non privileged user.
I logged on to the windows as a user who is in the administrators group. Any other components installations were fine. I really have no idea how to solve this problem as there is no user account as administrator. Can someone please help?

Thanks for the post.
Use cacaoadm restar gives me the same error.
I found out that is a limitation for the windows version I am using. Basically, the account for installation and configuration has to be an local administrator not in network.

Error start managed server from admin console in SSL mode

I have configured Admin server, managed servers and node manager on the same physical server and commonly using a single SSL sertificate.
There is no problem to start node manager, admin server and managed server individually. But if I try to start managed server from the admin console then I am getting the following errors.

Cannot open/add essbase server in EAS console in SSL mode

Hello Gurus,
I have implemented SSL in EPM which terminates at the web server but it seems that there is some issue with the Essbase server.Whenever I try to add essbase server into EAS console in a secure mode it shows the following in the Message panel of EAS console
Error: 1040142: NZERROR: nzos_Handshake failed(29024)
Checked Essbase logs but it has the same error mentioned in it. I am not sure where to proceed from here.

I think I might have the answer, EAS will be using the essbase RTC which has its own wallet in <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\EPMSystem11R1\common\EssbaseRTC-64\11.1.2.0\bin\wallet
Now you can either update the cwallet.sso in that directory or add a essbase.cfg file in <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\EPMSystem11R1\common\EssbaseRTC-64\11.1.2.0\bin
wiith the location of the wallet using the config setting
WalletPath <enter_full_path_to_wallet>
I also added the certificate to the cacerts in <MIDDLEWARE_HOME>\jdk160_21\jre\lib\security
Restart services and give it a go, works for me.

Tagging TextFrames With InDesign Server - not showign in desktop?

Hi all,
Ive come across a weird issue with marking up text frames with InDesign Server (CS3) whilst processing xml rules during an xml import.
I run the following code on desktop it works fine. When run on server, it works apart from the frames will not highlight when "Show Tagged Frames" is selected.
(code cut for brevity)..
//..open a new doc, import the xml file, process the rule set.

As Ive stated, the code is functionally fine on desktop and server, but the tagged frames will not highlight when the document is created on server?
Ive tried numerous work arounds (placeIntoFrame etc) but to no avail.
Any ideas, is this a known/expected behaviour?

After much local experimentation and iteration with Adobe tech support, we have a fix for Problem nr. 1: cannot define the port that works in our environment (IDS CS4 running as a service, Windows 2008 Server).
Add this parameter to your server startup command line for each instance of InDesign Server you're running:
-ORBendPoint giop:tcp:<serverIP>:<portNumber>
where
<serverIP> is the static IP of the server that is running IDS. Note: The OmniOrb docs imply that you can use the server's domain name here, but that didn't work for us. 127.0.0.1 also did not work. The IP number does work. This might help your Problem nr. 2: wrong IP address in the application IOR if you set it to the IP you want to listen on, but we have no experience with that.
<portNumber> is the port you want IDS (via OmniOrb) to listen on. If you're running multiple instances as we are, each instance should have its own unique port number.
I completely agree that, as an enterprise product, IDS's default behavior of boldly going where no one has gone before in your port space at each restart is not the way to play nice in a firewalled, enterprise environment. This should be documented in Adobe's Introduction to InDesign Server in the command line parameter discussions, it would have saved us a lot of time

Why Does Indesign Server Keep Crashing?

I'm using InDesign Server 6 to run a publication with multiple products. I'm using a 3rd party plug-in to automate the process with a XML data file. When I start the script I created to run the publication through InDesign Server it runs fine when the data file has a few products (3 or 4), but when I tried to run the script with a larger XML file it crashes and I get the following error message:
Has anybody else encountered this error using InDesign Sever? I know the Sharedcontent plugin error usually means there is a file compatability issue, but my template files were all created in CS5.5, so that shouldn't be a problem. Also I've tested this process on the the desktop version of InDesign CS6 and the same data file doesn't cause a crash.

Well, you're not using the most recent versoin of CS6. Try upgrading to 8.0.1.
Windows APPCRASH messages are nearly useless I don't suppose you could try it on a Mac or on a Windows machine with WinDBG installed...

Database control won't run in secure mode

I'm following the instructions displayed by the database configuration manager after creating a database. These instructions configure the database control to run in secure mode using https. I get an error with the following command run from the OS command line while in the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory:
emctl.bat secure dbconsole -sysman_pwd password
I get the error message "Failed to create EM root key."
The emdctl.trc file has the following entry: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."
The ORACLE_SID has already been set. The database control is down. The "emctl config emkey -repos" command completed successfully.
I'm using Oracle 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2003 server. I'm running this command on the database server. The database control was selected in the database configuration manager. This database control does run successfully in http mode, but I can't configure it for https.
Does anyone know why the target machine would actively refuse this connection?

Have you tried it without the -sysman_pwd flag ?

Connect OEPE to a Weblogic Server running in Production SSL mode

I am trying to connect an ECLIPSE IDE to a production Weblogic Server domain. However when I add the AdminServer to the IDE I get the message that it is Stopped but Synchronized. Therefore I cannot deploy any code directly from the IDE. How do you get Eclipse to connect to a production domain running with SSL enabled?

InDesign Server configuration and fonts

When you start multiple instances of InDesign Servers you specify the different configuration names.
Is it possible that 2 instances of InDesign Servers running on the same server with different configuration names have different fonts installed?
I.e. can I install some fonts of configuration level, not for the entire server?

There is no document titled "InDesign Server Installation and Configuration Guide". This was an error in the CS2 version of Introduction to InDesign Server.
You'll find the CS2 version of Introduction to InDesign Server in the InDesign Server CS2 ESD (the server download bundle). Even better you'll find the CS3 version in the InDesign CS3 Server SDK. Available at the following URL:

The information about Java/CORBA is specific to CS3, but the information about scripting and SOAP applies to CS2.

InDesign Server CS5 and Hardware Configuration.

Does any one know of InDesign Server is supported on Intel Xeon processor?
We have a need to generate 100's of PDF that merges a Data and Images togther. Each outout PDF varies anywhere from 20 MB to 400 MB. Below is the server configuration we are planing to purchase..
Six-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor X5670 (2.93GHz, 12M L3 Cache, 95 with 84 GB RAM.

Yes we solved it. We had a background process in our app that was trying to send over a thumbnail generation script. This would peg the INDS server for up to 15 minutes of just doing nothing. You would see the script come across but nothing would return so it would hose. Ended up fixing the error in our application and INDS has been working like a dream.
When we were running this we only were on a single-instance. We've now migrated to a multi-instance and throughput seems to be a lot faster now.

Run Form in HTTPS or SSL mode without installing Application Server

I have installed Oracle Database 10g and Oracle Developer suite 10g in my PC (Window XP). Now I want to implement SSL or running forms in HTTPS mode instead HTTP and I don't want to install Application server.
Any workaround is there to run Forms in HTTPS mode without installing Application server.

Performance issue? How old is your hardware? I am running OAS 10.1.2.3 on a Server 2003 VM which basically consumes 512MB RAM and ludicrous amounts of CPU/IO.
In any case: as said if you want to test SSL in a real life scenario then enabling SSL in OC4J is not what you want to do. In production the configuration is completely different, as there you would configure Apache to run your forms via SSL.
What comes to my mind would be to install Apache 1.3 (this would be the version OAS 10.1.2 uses), configure mod_oc4j there and configure it with SSL. On the other hand this also isn't the configuration you have in production so this also is not exacly what you want.
If you want to verify if your forms application will run via SSL then most certainly it will run without changing your sources. The only things you might have to change would be if you do HTTP Requests from the database to your application server via utl_http or from the client to the application server via java beans or via the java importer.
But for tests I'd strongly recommend doing it via an application server installation, and not via developer suite.
