Configure Mac Mail for Windows

Since a few days ago I have been unable to receive emails through Windows Live Mail. I can still send but can't receive. I have not changed any settings. Incoming Mail (POP3): mail.bigpond.com Help!

Hi lockjod,
If you haven't changed any settings, it is possible that you have outdated settings.
Can you log in here to confirm that these settings match what you have configured in Windows Live Mail?

• HT201320 How about configuring Mac mail for the iPhone?

I had tried to add my Mac mail to receive emails
But I have been asked to provide outgoing and
Incoming servers which I do not have an idea about it.

Contact your mail provider for these instructions/settings. They should have a web page showing this information.

• Configure Mac Mail for First Class E-Mail? Help!

So I have been able to get Mac Mail on my new MBP to retrieve and send e-mail from three of my four accounts; the one that I cannot get to work is with my mail from First Class, our college's mail server.
I have worked with our IT guy and have all the settings correct in the account creation wizard.  Mail connects, populates an inbox, but when I try to sentd mail, I get any number of errors: smtp failed to connect, etc.  Sometimes the server has (ofline) next to it in the rely message.
I have deleted and re-created numerous times, deleted the related keychain, restarted, searched this forum and Googled, and I can't find anything.
I really do not want to use the First Class client.  I find it clunky, and I just want to have all my mail in one program.
So is anyone here successfully using Mac Mail to send and receive their First Class e-mail?
Cheers!

I manage a FirstClass server.  Your user account on the server must be set to "Allow Mail Relay."  It can only be done from the Administration side, so you're at the mercy of the IT department to give you that privilidge. Other wise you're stuck using the FirstClass client.

• Is there a way to configure Mac Mail ...?

I have an IMac desktop, a MacBook & a 4th generation IPod Touch.  As it now stands whenever I receive email it goes to all 3 devices necessitating the need to physically read and/or delete the messages from all 3 devices.  Is there some way to configure Mac Mail to eliminate these steps or do I just have to keep manually removing mail messages as I'm now doing?
Thanks for any help you may have.

Create your accounts for IMAP instead of POP.
Here's a little youtube explaining the difference (ignore the sales pitch).
imap vs pop - what do they do?
In Apple Mail preferences, Accounts, when you go to set up a new mail account you click the plus in the lower left as usual.  When the Add account sheet is displayed if you press the option key while clicking the Continue button you will be given a window to define the account as POP or IMAP.
Alternatively if you enter an invalid email address into the Add Account window and juct click Continue (no option key) you will again be given the IMAP/POP choice.  This technique I think will work in the other itoys as well.

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)
http://apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.

• Is there a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?

As a college student it's important that everything is equal for windows and mac for using instructions. So i am wondering if theres a difference between microsoft office for mac and for windows?

There are differences between the two version of Office. If you need to be exactly like the Windows version, you will have to run Windows on your Mac.

• Failed to Configured Domain Services for Windows

Hi!
I am installing OES 2 SP3 with DSfW Pattern as a "New Domain Controller in an Existing Domain Services for Windows Domain" with Replication Configuration and Schema Partition.
During the "Perform eDirectory Configuration" at last task "Configure Domain Services for Windows " at 93% we encountered an error: "Failed to configure Domain Services for Windows".
Here's details of error ;

Thanks for the reply.
I have some followup questions
2. Can you explain the DNS setting in your setup ?
Tree ---> Power--> apd.com.ph -- dlpc.apd.com.ph
-- vec.apd.com.ph -- Andromeda.vec.apd.com.ph (DNS)
-- Pictor.vec.apd.com.ph ( additional domain server ) -> "Failed to configure in DSFW"
1. apd.com.ph, dlpc.apd.com.ph, vec.apd.com.ph are DSfW domains or just DNS domains ?
2. Andromeda.vec.apd.com.ph (DNS) - is this the DC of a DSfW domain ?
3. You are adding the Additional domain controller to the vec.apd.com.ph domain right ?
The
# LDAPCONF=/etc/opt/novell/xad/openldap/ldap.conf /usr/bin/ldapsearch -Y EXTERNAL -s sub -b dc=ph "(objectclass=dniplocator)" dn
Heres the result ;
a.) running the command in the DNS server (child domain) ANDROMEDA;
SASL /EXTERNAL authentication started
SASL username: gidNumber=0+uidNumber=0, cn=peercred,cn=external,cn=auth
SASL SSF: 0
# extended LDIF
# LDAPv3
# base <dc=ph(objectclass=dniplocator) [email protected]> with scope subtree
# filter: (objectclass=*)
# requesting:ALL
# search result
search : 2
result : 32 No such object
text : NDS error : no such entry (-601)
# numResponses :1
This is strange. This ldapsearch is failing to find the locator object in the tree under dc=ph.
- Can you try this same command from your FRD DC too and find the result ?
- Is your server non-name mapped or your adding a DSfW server into an existing eDirectory tree (name mapped) ?
- If it is later can you try the same search with '-b' parameter replaced with container to which FRD is mapped to into the eDirectory Tree.
- Can you tell in your setup where are the locator object present for your first DSfW server which is acting as DNS server ?
- While installing this ADC server, you have given the remote dns server as 192.168.81.92. In the YaST DNS screen did you do retrieve (by clicking 'retrieve' button on the screen ) or you entered those inputs manually ?
- Another follow up question. The locator context provided to the ndsdcinit command in your first post, is 'ou=OESSystemObjects,dc=vec,dc=apd,dc=com,dc=ph'. Can you confirm your locator
context is correct ?
b.) running the command in the ADC PICTOR;
SASL /EXTERNAL authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: invalid credentials (49)
This is expected as the server is not completely configured.
Please get it touch with our NTS for passing on more information about this setup.

• How do I format Mac mail for gmail

How do I format Mac mail for gmail?

You really have no way of controlling how the email will look on someone else's computer. I find, with email, the simpler the better. Block paragraphs (no indent on the first line) and an extra line between paragraphs.
If you want formatting control, I'd recommend using a word processor, printing to PDF and sending that.
Best of luck.

• How can I configure Mac Mail to use the correct SMTP server?

I have successfully set up Mac Mail to use a new e-mail account. Inbound and outbound mail is working just fine. However, I am seeing something odd when I create a new message or reply to an existing message. The outbound account that shows is not that which has been configured for the account. I can manually select the correct outbound account.
What are my troubleshooting steps?

• Lion mail for windows

Howdy,
I'm curious if anyone has any advice on how to achieve a Mac OS Lion similar look/functionality in a windows mail application. I want a stand alone application for windows 7but all the email programs I find are really cluttered and in some cases hideous. Although this seems like a stretch, I thought I'd at least check. Also hopefully I posted this in the correct area. It seemed to be the most accurate.
Thanks.

Well,  I'm not sure what you 've tried, but I use Thunderbird for my email client on MacOS as well as Windows. In fact, when my MacBook Pro boots into BootCamp, the Tunderbird instance there uses the same folder tree as the instance which is running under MacOS, that way the local folders are always in sync with the last run on the other OS...

• Can i use mac mail in windows. from where can i download it

Hi Apple,
I would like to use mail.app (Mac mail client) in windows. Could you people please help me out in this. from where i can download this for windows.

Apple doesn't make any email software for Windows. The only current software it does is iTunes, Safari, QuickTime, a limited version of Software Update, and a couple of hardware-specific products.

• .MAC Mail on Windows Mail

Hello All,
I just got a new laptop from work, it has Vista and ''Windows Mail'', how do I import .mac mail on there? My work uses my .mac email address and I have to go to mac.com to get mail. HELP PLEASE!
P.S. Windows=Devil

I quote from Apple's Help on the subject:
'You can use any standard email program to read your .Mac Mail messages.
Open your email program and set up an account that uses your .Mac member name for the account name, your .Mac password for the mail password, mail.mac.com for the POP or IMAP server, and your ISP's SMTP server for the outgoing mail server.
If your email program supports SMTP authentication, you can use smtp.mac.com instead of your ISP's SMTP server.'
You may be able to set Windows Mail to use IMAP, which would leave messages on the server to be read by other machines if required: or you can use it as a POP account meaning that messages would be downloaded to your Windows machine (though you should have the option to leave mail on the server if you want).
To send via .mac, enter smtp.mac.com as the server, enable 'Use Authentication' (or set 'Authentication' to 'Password', depending on how it's worded in the the program) and enter your .mac username and password.

• Mac Mail message windows

I am using Mac Mail 5.2 on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.4.  If I open a  folder in On My Mac, it shows the mail under the headings From  Subject   Date Received.  Is there any way I can insert To into the headings,so I know to whom the e-mails were sent?

Sounds to me like it is.  The mail apps on any OS are just slaves to the delivery by the mail servers they are configured to use.  When the servers deliver the stuff the mail apps just receive the stuff and tell their user about it.  Sure it's buffered somewhere, but not for a day, unless of course, you configure you mail program to only check mail once a day or the servers themselves are broken and can't deliver the stuff (it happens).
