Configure My sites sharePoint

Hello,
I have read about how to configure My Sites SharePoint from "http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624362.aspx"
I have read the following section :
Perform these additional steps to configure permissions for users to create team sites from their My Sites to use site feeds
In the Policy group, click Permission Policy.
On Manage Permission Policy Levels dialog box, click Add Permission Policy Level.
Type a name for the permission policy.
Under Permissions, in Site Permissions, select the Grant option for Create Subsites - Create subsites such
as team sites, Meeting Workspace sites, and Document Workspace sites.
Click Save.
In the Policy group, click User Policy.
On Policy for Web Application dialog box, click Add Users.
On Add Users, in Zones select (All Zones), then click Next.
In Choose Users, enter the user names of the users that you want to create team sites from their My Site to use site feeds. If all users can create team sites from their
My Site to use site feeds, click the Browse icon. In Select People and Groups, click All Users, then click Everyone. Click Add, and then click OK.
In the Choose Permissions section, select the name of the Permission Policy created previously.
Click Finish, and then click OK.
I have configure My sites in SharePoint . And I didnot  configure the previous step .
Then I log in by a user . Then he created a personal site . Then He can create a sub site under it .
So what is the previous section for ?
ASk

By default all authenticated users have the ability to create personal sites for my sites. Did you perform the step to allow self-service site creation? Also, instead of configuring the create subsites permission using user policy I usually control this
at the User Profile Service Level. There is a link in the UPS called Manage User Permissions and you can specify 3 permission levels for all users (Or put different AD Groups/Users here):
From:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262500(v=office.15)
Create Personal Site   This permission enables users to create a personal site to store their documents, newsfeed, and followed content.
Follow People and Edit Profile   This permission enables users to follow people from their My Site and to edit their personal profile.
Use Tags and Notes   This permission enables users to use the Tags and Notes feature from SharePoint Server 2010. The Tags and Notes feature is provided primarily for upgrade purposes so that users can continue to access the
tags and notes they created in the earlier version of SharePoint Server. However, you might also use this permission to enable users to leave notes on documents in SharePoint Server 2013.

This might be an issue with the gacutil that you are using. I have used the gacutil that comes with Microsoft SDK.
You can install Microsoft SDK from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3138

  • Configuring Apps for SharePoint 2013 - Host Header Sites

    Hi All
I am busy planning our Apps for SharePoint deployment and one gotcha seems to be sites that use host headers. Our current deployment consists of the following:
    2x WFE's (WFESRV1 and WFESRV2)
    2x App Servers (APPSRV1 and APPSRV2)
The WFE's are load-balanced and we have 2 sites, portal.intranet.com and mysite.intranet.com. Both use host headers. I have gotten to the point where I will have a DNS zone called companyapps.com and a CNAME *.companyapps.com.
To which site do I point the CNAME to and what if I need both sites to be App enabled? Also, a lot of sites mention I need a empty site collection on a separate IP in order to use Apps with host headers. How would I use this empty site collection and
    what would I name it?
We are on the March 2013 update.

May Be I understand your question as *.companyapps.com should be pointed to sharepoint server but where in IIS binding would you map *.companyapps.com
Actually, When you configure the APPS on server, the central admin > apps > you have to mention this *.companyapps.com. Now all apps will be "(yourname)-guid.companyapps.com"
Then you will have to create a app catalog where all the app related details will be stored
When App service application is created it is automatically added to default service connection. and this service connection to mapped to other web application(Application management, you see service connection)
If all is configured well apps will automatically work for all web apps

  • Office Web Apps Load Balancing Configuration Issue for SharePoint 2013

I have load balanced servers dedicated for Office Web Apps with name “md1xxxwfe1” and “md1xxxwfe2”
, both this servers are load balanced by CISCO Load balancer. And I have mapped Load Balancer Virutal IP with host name officeapps.jda.corp.local in the DNS records.
Things are working fine if I add new farm by using New-OfficeWebAppsFarm
with server name as internalurl in PowerShell console
     as like “  -internalurl http://
md1xxxwfe1  but when I use –internalurl officeapps.jda.corp.local it is not working at all. I’m not getting what to do at this point.
I have gone through following blogs but no luck.

The output of the wfe1 server is attached with this. When I open http:// /hosting/discovery in wfe1 I’m getting following result (attached
screenshot) but it should show hostname rather than server name.
    Please help me
    Thanks, Ram Ch

    Hi  Ram ,
For  troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
Just about any load balancing solution will work, including a server that runs the Web Server (IIS) role running Application Request Routing (ARR):Install
    Application Request Routing
Install the certificate on the load balancer as described under Securing Office Web Apps Server communications by using
    HTTPS.
Make sure you have configured the cluster correctly for full internet name:

  • Upload wsp file and configure webpart in Sharepoint 2013

    Hi All,
I have a WSP file which has custom webpart built from VS 2013.
Now I need to upload WSP file and add that webpart in the site I have created.
I have gone to Site settings--> Web Designer Galleries --> Solutions and uploaded Solution.
    Then activated.
But when I go to Site settings--> Web Designer Galleries--> Webparts and go to 'New' , I am not able to see that webpart!!!
    Regards, Shreyas R S

I assume it is not a Sandbox solution and it a full trust solution. Try below:
    Remove that webpart
    On sharepoint server type
    add-spsolution
    path of file e.g. c:\132.wsp
Then from central admin > systems > farm solutions > select the wsp and select deploy
Once deployed it has reference in web.config which did not happened in your previous case.
then you can follow same process of activating the solution and adding it to page

    http://contoso-public.sharepoint.com/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('ContactUs')/items
1st problem: When I try to access this list, I get a login popup asking me to log into prodnet47-48ipv4a.sharepointonline.com.akadns.net (same on IE11 and Chrome)
Accessing directly the link above returns the following error (although I'm not sure it is meant to be accessed like that):
    <m:error xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata"><m:code>-2147024891,
    System.UnauthorizedAccessException</m:code><m:message xml:lang="en-US">Access
denied. You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource.</m:message></m:error>
2nd problem: When I use _spPageContextInfo.webAbsoluteUrl +"/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('ContactUs')/items to programatically get the base domain, the url returned is
    http://contoso-public.sharepoint.com/undefined/_api/web/lists/GetByTitle('ContactUs')/items
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks in advance

I read that anonymous access is unsupported in 2010 and didn't find improvements in 2013. Alternative route is to create service account with minimal read permission and use this account to communicate with REST.

  • Add a list from a subsite to the top level site SharePoint 2013

Hello,  I am trying to display a calendar from sub site to the top level home page and cannot seem to make it happen.  I have opened the calendar in SPD and saved that as a webpart file to my desktop and then uploaded into the app gallery and web
part list and when I go to add it to the top level home page I get the following error:  'List does not exist' 'The page you selected contains a list that does not exist.  It may have been deleted by another user."  Any idea?
    I am running 0365 w/SharePoint 2013.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    Please perform the steps below:
Access calendar list in subsite, in the Customize List tab, click Edit List. It will open SharePoint Designer.
In Views tab, click Calendar, it will open list view in Advanced mode, and you will see code.
Delete the part between <ZoneTemplate> and </ZoneTemplate>
click INSERT in the toolbar > DataView > click calendar list > List View Tools bar appears in green color.

  • Configure Apps for SharePoint 2013 in dev environment without DNS

    I have a SP 2013 dev env
http://spitlab/ .I want to configure app store in this environment
will I be able to do it without access to a DNS server
I followed the below two articles
    http://www.ashokraja.me/post/Develop-SharePoint-2013-Napa-App-In-Local-Dev-Environment-Configuring-On-Premises-without-DNS.aspx
I am able to install third party apps but when I click on it . it gets redirected to sfs.in
    next i try this
    http://sharepointconnoisseur.blogspot.com/2013/07/shortcut-to-prepare-sharepoint-2013-app.html
same thing I am able to install 3rd party apps but when i click on it .. it goes to intranet.com
so is it possible to install third party apps on a dev box without DNS and check out third party apps and if what steps am i missing ?

    Hi,
If you click the 3rd party apps and it is redirected to sfs.in or intranet.com, this means you configured app domain correctly.
You can read the official document per the following first link to understand what app domain is (with DNS configured), app domain format is as bellow image (borrowed from this
article), and app domain is defined as you want(e.g. ContosoApps.com).
Without DNS, as your above two articles described, the app domain (e.g. apps.com, or apps.sfs.in) is written manually in hosts file directly, you can construct an app domain as your own, then after you install a custom developed app, it should be the following
    app url format.

  • Work Manager Configuration Issue with SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
We are facing issue to configure the Workflow Manager with SharePoint 2013.
    ===========================================================
Please provide any solution/inputs to resolve this issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an error when you configured Workflow Manager for SharePoint 2013.
For resolving your issue, please do as the followings:
1.Start -> Programs -> Workflow Manager 1.0 -> Workflow Manager Configuration -> Remove from Farm     (not to be confused with SharePoint “farm”)
2.Drop SQL databases for Workflow Manager.   (SbGatewayDatabase, SbManagementDB, SBMessageContainer01, WFInstanceManagementDB, WFManagementDB, WFResourceManagementDB)
3.Start-> Programs-> Workflow Manager 1.0 -> Workflow Manager Configuration -> Configure Workflow Manager with Default Settings (Recommended)
4.Ran the wizard just like before and it should be completed successfully this time.
More information, please refer to the link below:

    I hope this helps.

  • Configuring apps in sharepoint 2013 onpremises

    Hi,
we have a lab environment for sharepoint 2013 with
    1) Domain controller (domain : test.local)
    2) SharePoint server { SQL Server 2012 (full install), SharePoint 2013 (full install)}
Now we would like to configure sharepoint 2013 apps in our environment. In the TechNet blogs and articles ,it says to create a unique domain for the sharepoint apps ... does this mean,we have to create one more domain (one more server)  or just add
a domain in the DNS and perform the configuration ?
Below is the point from the TechNet article :
When choosing your App domain for each farm, you have 2 options:
1.Create a new unique domain to host your SharePoint-hosted Apps in, or
    2.Create a sub-domain of the existing domain.
The recommendation is to create a new unique domain such as contosoapps.com rather than a sub-domain such as apps.contoso.com.
If you could help me out with steps for configuring the same .. that would be helpful .

    Hi Suren,
it does not mean you need to create one more server, you just add a domain forward lookup.
Yes, the recommendation is create a unique domain which internally gets forwared to your domain.
You need to configure forward lookup zone for your apps (here in this example contosoapps.com), in layman terms it is just an alias for your existing domains.
I think you are refering to this URL -
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161236.aspx
and if you have already followed those steps mentioned in Configure the domain names in DNS (all hosting options)
and go to " To create a wildcard Alias (CNAME) record for the new domain name"
    and do ping Apps-12345678ABCDEF.yourdomain.com
to see whether you get reply from above ping.
The steps that are given in the above link is easy to perform, do let me know where you got stuck.
    Hope this helps!
