Configure n80 WLAN

I just got N80 and ordered HotSpot from service provider(T-mobile) for my phone.I go to one of Hotspot in my town to get it connected but i always get error message like PACKET DATA CONNECTION NOT AVAILABLE event i got instructed from Ato Z from technical support. One of reps told me call manufacturer to configure its WLAN.Does anyBody know how to configure N80.Using internet over WiFi phone very needy to me.PLease help me out.Thank you all

As far as I know with the hotspots (when iv used them with a pc) you have to actually log in to them first with internet explorer once you have connected to the wireless hotspot. Not sure if this will work with the N80 unless you set the login page as your home page, or go to the login page once you are connected to the hotspot.

    Hi Cristalnap,
I'm gonna try this one, but do note that getting N80 to connect to complex WiFi area isn't a simple task. Do have a correct expectation.
    Here goes:
    1. Menu, Tools, Settings, Connection, Access points, Options, New access point, Use default settings.
    2. Key in the following:
    -a. Connection name: Your choice.
    -b. Data bearer: Wireless LAN
    -c. WLAN netw. name: Wi-Fi_UniNA
-d. Network status: This marks if the SSID is being broadcasted. If you can search and find the WiFi point before defining this access point, we can say that it is Public, if not it should be Hidden. Or, you can check this with your admin stuffs.
    -e. WLAN netw. mode: Infrastructure
    -f. WLAN security mode: WPA/WPA2
    -g. WLAN security sett.:
    --i. WPA mode: EAP
    --ii. EAP plug-in settings:
---1. Disable everything except for EAP-PEAP and configure it (Options, Configure):
    ----a. General:
    -----i. User certificate: not defined
    -----ii. CA certificate: not defined
-----iii. User name in use: User-configured
-----iv. User name: Key in your user name.
    -----v. Realm in use: User-configured
-----vi. Realm: Key in your realm (you seems to call it area).
    ----b. EAP:
-----i. Disable everything except for EAP-MSCHAPv2 and configure it (Options, Configure):
------1. User name: Key in your user name and area. E.g. user@area or area\user or area/user.
------2. Prompt password: No (Setting to yes had never worked for me. You may want to try it out. )
------3. Password: Key in your password.
    --iii. TKIP encryption: Allowed
Hope this helps. Let us know the result.

  • Nokia N80 WLAN - 802.1x TLS

    Hi,
    I have a N80 at 3.0618.0.2 (23/05/2006, RM-92, Nokia N80 (45.02))
I want to connect to an 802.1x network that uses TLS+digital certificates.
If I go to settings->connection->Access points->New access point
I can define a new network with bearer=wlan, wlan security mode 802.1x
I can then go into WLAN security sett & under EAP plugin settings I can tick "EAP-TLS", Enable it & hit configure
I then have the option to select "User certificate", but the only option is none.
So I have to define it.
    However if I go to settings->security->certif management->personal->Options I only have Help,Exit
Is this an issue where my provider (3UK) have broken 802.1x support by preventing the user from adding certificates. If so I am so so so so very very very peeved....
Or perhaps I'm just doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    nigel.

yes thanks, I've now managed to import a certificate just fine (with the built in file browser in fact). Just wasn't immediately obvious!
HOWEVER a bigger problem. "Scan for available networks" doesn't even list my network at work even when standing under various access points where a laptop works fine.
The network is 802.11b with open authentication and 802.1x EAP-TLS.
I can connect to home network (g WEP128) fine, can see neighbour (g WPA) and connect to public networks - Tmobile, BT openzone (not sure if g or b)
Any ideas why I wouldn't even see the network . (3.0618)

    hi,
maybe you will be able to help me, if you don't mind trying. I got my Nokia N80 a couple of months ago, and WLAN was working perfectly, at home, away (i travel a lot). I live in Canada, and I just returned home after a month in Europe (WLAN worked at the various airports and caffees). For some reasons I don't see my home WLAN any more on the list of available WLANS (I see some others in the neighborhood). At the same time it is showing on my laptop and working just fine. I have to say that while away nobody was at home and WLAN home settings were not changed at all.
I tried to read some of the forum messages here, but nothing similar to give me idea what to do.
    Please help.

  • N80 "WLAN: WPA authentication failed"

    I have a N80 at 4.0623.0.41 (26/07/2006, RM-92, Nokia N80 63.01) branded (TIM-Italy). No further firmware upgrades are available (on 12-09-2007)
I would like to connect to my 802.1x academic network that uses certificate
I installed the certificate set up its reliability.
Then, I followed the indications found in this forum for EAP-PEAP setting up
    Data Bearer: Wlan
    Network status: Public
    Network Mode: Infrastructure
    Security mode: 802.1x
    Security Settings:
    WPA/WPA2: EAP
    EAP Plug In Settings:
    1. EAP-PEAP
    (other options disabled)
    EAP-PEAP:
    Personal Certificate: Not Defined
    Authority Certificate: IC root CA
    Username in use: User Defined
    Username: *****
    Realm in use: From certificate
    Realm: [blank]
    Allow PEAPv0: Yes
    Allow PEAPv1: NO
    Allow PEAPv2: NO
    EAPs:
    1:EAP-MSCHAPv2
    EAP-MSCHAPv2:
    Username: [entered correctly]
    Prompt password: Yes
    Password: [Entered correctly]
When I try to connect with these settings I get the following error message:
" WLAN: WPA authentication failed "
I tried also other unsuccessful variations such
    Allow PEAPv0: Yes
    Allow PEAPv1: YES
    Allow PEAPv2: YES)
The system admistrators suggested that the problem could be the certificate that is home-made and maybe it is not completely recognized by Symbian v9.1. But they don’t know how to fix the problem
Indeed I found two certificates from my institution (Root and Server), apparently identical, but the Root one is recognized while the other no.
Do you know what I should check inside the certificate to gain insights about the reasons of the authentication failure?
Is there any symbian network utility that could help to understand which step block the authentication?
    I will appreciate any suggestion
    Thank you in advance

WPA and EAP works great with the N80 - dont worry
I have tested and runs alot og Nokia Phones with WiFi and EAP etc.
    I currently uses a N80 fw 4.0707.0.7, and there are a v5 fw also.
I sugguest you get the 4.07
You subject informs about WPA but you have set your Security mode: 802.1x
    Change this to:
    Security mode: WPA/WPA2
    Then you should be good.
Also verify the status: hidden/public this is important
If you can see the SSID in the WLAN Wiz then its public SSID.
Try clearing the username in the certificate setup/PEAP
also try different comination of DOMAIN/USERNAME, DOMAIN\USERNAME, DOMAIN@USERNAME etc
But I would think that you do not need username in the GENERAL page under EAP-PEAP
You need username under EAP page/EAP-MSCHAPv2
I assume you have the certificate installed on the handset.

  • N80 wlan problem

i have n80 and i use the active standby but suddenly the wlan icon from the stand by dissapeared. i tried to reset the phone but nothing. can anybody help me pls?

    Hi Chrlov,
An example of my set up based on my old Linksys router.
    1. Go to Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access points.
    2. Select Options > New access point > Use default settings.
    3. Give a name to 'Connection name'. In my case, 'Home WLAN'.
    4. Change 'Data bearer' to 'Wireless LAN'.
    5. Change 'WLAN netw. name' to the SSID I had set up on my Linksys router. In my case, some thing like 'gen1xxxxhomewireless' (this is not the real one, censored by me. LOL)
    6. Since my SSID is hidden, I change 'Network status' to 'Hidden'.
    7. My Linksys had WEP set up (and that it is permanent). So I leave 'WLAN netw. mode' and 'WLAN security mode' as 'Infrastructure' and 'WEP' respectively.
    8. I set up WEP security settings in 'WLAN security sett.'
    a. Since I'm using key 3, I change 'WEP key in use' to '#3'.
    b. I leave 'Authentication type' as the default of 'Open'.
    c. I key in all 4 keys in 'WEP key settings'. Since I'm using 64-bit hexadecimal key, I set 'WEP encryption' to '64 bits' and 'WEP key format' to 'Hexadecimal'.
Hope this is a good reference.
    Good luck and cheers. ^_^;

  • N80 - WLAN at home won't detect, but I've used out...

    Hi guys, I need help...
I have a got new N80, and the WLAN feature was one of my most high expectations... I have already successfully used the WLAN feature with my new N80 on Public access points, and it works great. But at home I can't detect my home network.
I have a Linksys Modem Router (Wireless-G ADSL Gateway with Speedbooster WAG54GS), with WiFi running on "Mixed" mode.
What puzzles me is that with my laptop i can detect 2 Wireless networks, mine and my neighbour's, but with my N80 i can't detect either. I have been able to detect other private nwireless on my neighbourhood, but mine it just won't detect.
    Can anyone help please???

I could really use your help on this one... THanks!

  • Configuration for WLAN expansion

I am setting up a WLAN consisting of 1 AirPort Extreme as a basestation and 2 AirPort Express. One works as an extender, the second one as a „receiver“, that is connected to the PC with a normal LAN-cable.
As an alternative, I will try to set it up with 1 AirPort Extreme as a basestation and only one AirPort Express, which again will be directly connected to the PC with a LAN-cable.
    Here are my questions:
    - The 2.4 GHz frequency band works fine. How do I configure it, that it also works with the 5 GHz frequency band?
    - I know there is a drop in wireless speed from one AirPort Express to the next. The internet connection is 100Mbit. At the moment, I get 20-25 Mbit down speed and 2,5-4,5 up. Is this realistic or what speed can I expect? There is a least one wall between the two AirPort Express.
    - I tried to secure the WLAN by limiting the access on a MAC address basis. Where do I need to list them? Only at the AirPort base station or also at the each of the AirPort Express? Do I need to include the MAC address of the two AirPort Express in the list of the AirPort base station?
    - Is there a tool for MAC OS X Lion to measure the WLAN strength? I’ve used iStumbler and it always crashed after a short period of time.

    - The 2.4 GHz frequency band works fine. How do I configure it, that it also works with the 5 GHz frequency band?
You can't. The AirPort Express is a "single" band device only. It can receive 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz, but not both at once. I am assuming that you have the newer version of the Express here. The older version of the Express is 2.4 GHz only.
5 GHz can work well if you have line-of-sight between the wireless devices, but it does not penetrate any obstructions as well as 2.4 GHz. If you want to setup the Express to use 5 GHz, then you will have to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz band on the main router and then configure the Express to connect to that network.

Good performance if you are speaking about the connection to the AirPort Express.

If you are using AirPort Utility 5.5.3 and 7.5.2 firmware on your AirPorts, you only need to setup the MAC Access list on your "main" Airport. The settings will auto transfer to the other AirPorts.
    - Is there a tool for MAC OS X Lion to measure the WLAN strength? I’ve used iStumbler and it always crashed after a short period of time.
Sorry, I don't use Lion. If iStumber is not working well, you might want to take a look at AirRadar.

    Nokia N80 (black)

    - "WPA mode": "Pre-shared key"
    - Pre-shared key": the correct one (verified with laptop connection)
    - "TKIP encryption": I have tried both "Allowed" and "Not allowed".

When I go back and go through steps 1-5 again, I get the exact same message.
What am I doing wrong? Can someone give please me a _really_ detailed step-by-step guide for how to do this?
I have been able to use gcalsync (www.gcalsync.com) with the same "HQ" WLAN, but then it is gcalsync that asks for SSID and key. So: The WLAN works, I just don't understand how to set it up.

  • Wireless configuration - 2 WLANs?

Hi, hope someone can help with this as I can't find any info out there (which is odd, but anyway)
When configuring wireless on (dual band) TC do you have two create 2 WLANs? (one b/g the other n)
In other words, when using Airport util/manual setup/wireless/more options/wireless network options - and then 'create' the N only WLAN there? If so, what settings to use for options such as Multicast Rate/WPA group key timeout etc.
OR - do you just create 1 WLAN setting the radio mode as automatic and be done with it?
I'm having some odd drop out/bad connection type problems with devices such as ATV and need b/g support for older devices.
    Hope this makes sense...
    Thanks, D.

Hello Can't think of one. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
When configuring wireless on (dual band) TC do you have two create 2 WLANs? (one b/g the other n)
By default, the TC will create two wireless networks with the same Network Name. One network operates on the 2.4 GHz radio band and the other on the 5 GHz band. This would, technically, support any 802.11a/b/g/n wireless clients that you may have. You have the option to rename the 5 GHz radio's network with a different Network Name. Also note that 802.11n clients can connect to either radio, whereas, 802.11b/g clients can only connect to the 2.4 GHz radio.

  • Configuring Netgear WLAN-Router with Safari not possible

    Hi,
I've got a problem with safari and my netgear router WGT624v2. In a fromer safari version it was possible to configure the router via the config-page. But with my current safari version it is not possible. I can logon, but to only thing I coud see is cryptic HTML-Code. Firefox isn't able, too. The only browser which could manage this is MS Internet Explorer.
Maybe this has something to do with active x? Could a former safari version handle active x, and the current could not?
Does anybody have the same problem?

Thank you kind sir. I have contacted Meraki to ask the all-important question of "Y U NO CHARGE MONIES?" and got a very helpful representative. I'm signed up now and going to start reading their documentation.
As far as the 16-port hub, I agree a larger one would be nice once I know what I'm doing but again I'm trying to be fiscally responsible with the tax-payer money we use. Many deployment models I read about online suggested keeping yourself to 15-20 devices at a time instead of going for the 30 device Apple says or the 49-port sync that Datamation has. I appreciate the feedback though. If this pilot expands I will feel more comfortable suggesting the purchase of additional equipment.

I don't think it is a hardware problem, as battery life, 3G reception and WLAN suddenly works much better. My guess is that something in the WLAN implementation causes the phone to go into some kind of fruitless loop, wasting battery and interfering with 3G. I have turned of the WLAN setting "Show availability" now (WLAN works fine anyway), and so far things seem better!
