Configure Network

Hi there,
How and where do you configure the IP settings in Sun Solaris 10?
During installation I configured a fixed IP, but I want to change it into DHCP client.
Thanx in advance.
Regards,
Chirs

I just want to know how to see all network
interfaces'ifconfig -a plumb' will plumb all interfaces with valid drivers. They will then appear in 'ifconfig -a' output.
and how to configure the gateway and DNS adresses. I
think that will do.Normally that's done by population of /etc/defaultrouter and /etc/resolv.conf, along with making sure DNS is valid in /etc/nsswitch.conf.
/etc/nsswitch.conf and /etc/resolv.conf take effect immediately. /etc/defaultrouter is read only at boot. You'd need to use 'route' to add the route immediately.

hi everyone... can you teach me how i configure networking in my infrastructure..
i am getting confuse that i have 2 phisical server, i don't know to set the netwokring in scvmm. Every best practice, i found in internet is using more than 2 physical server.
i have been tried before with the networking which i want..but it failed...
    any one help me please...

This whitepaper should explain the required steps to get this working.
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a
The whitepaper will use more than two hyper-v hosts, but you'll get the picture.
You can have 1 host to run your NVGRE VMs, while the other host should be dedicated to run the virtualization gateway VMs.

Hold on... advice to someone downloading from 1337x !!!
Until I saw your comment and googled the term, I had no idea that this was a "downloaded" file. I assumed the "1337x" reference was to dimensions/resolution and Noir referred to genre. (I.e., I use similar notations the differentiate files compressed for TV playback comparisons.) In any case, the advice is the same irrespective of the source.
er, isn't it illegal to download movies ?
Not necessarily. Thousands of movies are probably downloaded daily as legal purchases from such vendors as iTunes. Thousands more are available for free in the public domain, open source/community videos listings, and under Creative Commons Licensing. In short, there are many legal sources of downloadable content and you should not automatically jump to the conclusion that everyone is a crook.

  • Some steps for configuring  Network are skipped in installation Solaris 10

    Hi everybody !!!
I'm a newbie in Solaris 10. I had some problems in installation Solaris 10:
I downloaded installation packet for x64/x86 (DVD) on site Sun.I want to install Solaris 10 on my PC AMD 2500+.I connect to internet through a LAN.
1)In process installation, some steps for configuring Network ( from 5 to 15 in Solaris 10 installation guide) were skipped automatically. It has been directly moved to 16-th step(setup Time and region). Then i tried to finish installing it. But in working with it, i recognized that Network card had been not found( i use NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter). I typed some command in console shell :
    $netstat -in
    loo...........
and received only one row like above.
i have tried some times , but not succeeded
2)Port USB is also not working
Please help me. Thanks a lot !!!

    hi Vantuan,
guess I just posted reply to your other post...
also check Sun hardware compatibility list for your network card here:

  • Configuring networking on Solaris 10

How do I configure networking on Solaris 10, is there a single command or must I edit each file individually?
If so, what's the format of /etc/hostname.hme0

    turnstile:
That advice will only work if the original poster has
a Sun SPARC system with certain integrated 10/100 Ethernet.
They didn't tell us what system they actually had.
The device instance name applies to its associated chipset.
HME is different from ERI, is different from DMFE, is different from DNET, is different from IPBR, etc, etc, etc.
    etcetra:
Do the sys-unconfig procedure. If you have a recognized network controller,
it will prompt you with sufficient questions to configure it,
particularly if you do not know what actual chipset you might have,
and want a setup that survives a reboot.

  • Smf / sometimes does not configure network interfaces in single-user mode?

    From http://groups.yahoo.com/group/solarisx86/message/14785
When booting into single user mode, I often get a message
    on the console
t_optmgmt: System error: Cannot assign requested addressand only the loopback interface is configured (lo0 inet, and lo0 inet6).
The system's dnet0 interface is not plumbed any more. Configuration
for the dnet0 network interface is via a static ip address; hostname
in /etc/hostname.dnet0, and and ip v4 address for that hostname in
/etc/hosts. This was a Solaris 10 x86 system, but the same problem
has also been observed on Solaris 10 sparc, and the hme0
    interface.
svcs -x in single-user mode reports no problems.
Changing to multi-user mode by typing Ctrl-D still does not
    configure the real network interface.
One thing that I've noticed is that smf's log file
    /etc/svc/volatile/network-physical:default.log
is missing, when the nic interface was not configured.
It seems that the problem with unconfigured network interfaces
does not happen when I boot directly into multi-user mode.
Why isn't the physical interface plumbed and configured when
booting into single user mode on S10 b69?

  • Configurable Networks in Assembly Processing

    Hi Gurus,
I have implemented Assembly Processing with configurable networks. I am facing an issue here.
The requirment is to capture the Delivery time ( Z field) from quotation and apply a  formula and calculate the normal duration of the activites of the network created on saving the quotation.
I have used Varaiant configuration for the same
    I created following characterstics
    1. PS_DEL_TIME_TEST - To capture the delivery time from quotation line item
    Table Name      VBAP
    Field Name      ZZ_DELTIME
    2. PS_DURATION - To fill the normal duration of activity
    Table Name      AFVGD
    Field Name      DAUNO
    3. PS_DIST_DUR_TEST- User field of activity
    Table Name      AFVGD
    Field Name      USR04
The Dependency that is used is
    000010     $SELF.PS_DURATION = ($PARENT.PS_DEL_TIME_Test * 30)*
    000020     (MDATA PS_DIST_DUR_TEST/100)
Now the problem is that the Delivery time is not captured in quotation level but is not copied to the characterstic value assignment to the network.
Can some one please help me with this?

  • JET install: ERROR: Unable to configure network interface Exiting to shell

Using SUNWjet v4.4.4 I'm trying to build a server using update 5 x86 which seems
to work with one notable exception. The JET server and the build server do not
reside on the same subnet. In order to get around not being able use PXE boot
to boot the build server I'm booting from DVD after making the following modifications
    to the grub menu entry:
    kernel /I86PC.Solaris_10-1/multiboot kernel/unix - install nowin -B
    install_config=x.x.x.x:/opt/SUNWjet,

    install_boot=x.x.x.x:/export/install/media/s10u5-x86/boot
This seems to kick off the installer however it fails to bring up the network interface:

    base_config_sysidcfg_network_interface=PRIMARY
    vs
    base_config_sysidcfg_network_interface=bge0
I don't mind doing this manually but of course I would much rather have it work automatically.

Try giving more network interface settings in the sysidcfg settings:
    network_interface=value {primary hostname=host_name
                              default_route=ip_address or NONE
                              ip_address=ip_address

this is what i got from my isp : IP 192.168.1.4, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, default getaway : 192.168.1.1, prefered dns server: 62.168.168.2, alternate dns server: 62.168.168.5.
i use SiS ethernet driver, if that metters.
so i wrote these numbers in rc.conf according to begginers wiki (i think), but still nothing.
can anyone help me? how should i edit rc.conf?
sorry for my english, im from georgia.. and thanx in advance...

don't comment it. you need that.
unknown host is when domain.com isn't resolved. try ping an IP, google.com has 64.233.187.99

Does this article apply to OS X Lion and Airport Utility 6.0?
Reason: Airport Utility cannot find my Airport Extreme (4th generation) wirelessly on my Time Capsule configured network even although the firmware in both units is up to date.

I thought you were trying to Extend the network with an Express as the article mentions you pointed to...
You can't find the Airport Extreme then...
I woudl suggest doing a Factory reset....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
Then you should be able to set it up just as you did when it was new....
Factory default reset (using reset button)
If the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule isn't accessible from AirPort Utility, the Factory Default reset can be accomplished by using the reset button.
Unplug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule from power.
Press and hold the reset button with a pen or pencil, then plug the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule back in while continuing to hold the button until you see the light (LED) flash rapidly. This should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button. This will factory default reset the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule.

    Hello All,
I'm trying to do a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6 Server on my Mac Mini Server and at the end of the setup process I keep getting the above error.
I connect the Mac Mini Server to my home network using its build in wireless connection and when it asks me for my Primary DNS and Computer name I enter:
    Primary DNS: macminiserver.private
    Computer Name: Mac Mini Server
I have managed to get it complete the install once without error but I can't seem to be able to replicate the successes and it is driving me nuts Would appreciate any help and/or advice I can get.
    Thanks

Mac OS X Server expects functional DNS. If you don't have that (and on a NAT'd LAN, you don't have it until you set it up), you'll want to let Mac OS X Server set up its own "runt" DNS server. Once that's set-up and your installation is complete, you can rip it out and replace it with your own full DNS server configuration. And as is the usual course of further confusion here, no, you can't refer to your ISP DNS here, as that's not going to get a translation for NAT'd boxes on your LAN.
    Primary DNS: macminiserver.private
That's likely asking for a DNS server on your LAN. Press return and see if you can skip that prompt, and see if Mac OS X Server will then (as usual) set up the "runt" DNS server for you for this case.
    Computer Name: Mac Mini Server
I'd suggest "McNair" or "Foo" or something that'll be less typing than MacMiniServer.example.com, and I'd suggest getting yourself a real and registered domain name. While you can camp out in another domain or can create your own bogus domain name, migrating domains is a hassle and if/when you want to use some of your DNS publicly, you'll need a real and registered domain.

  • Server stuck at 'configuring network'

I have all the latest updates, running Mavericks 10.9.2 and Server. I'm trying to edit my host name settings - it detected 'Multiple Networks' asked me to pick which network the server should be based on, I selected ethernet, and after that it gets stuck on 'configuring network'.
Should I have opened some ports or something? Please do suggest how I can resolve this.

How are you editing your hostname settings?
    The following are some guesses...
Typically, you'll want one network selected — with gigabit wired being fastest for most uses, assuming you also have gigabit switches — and WiFi disabled.
The following assumes a NAT'd network, as is typical.
The OS X Server must have a static IP address on your private networl.
You cannot reference any off-LAN DNS services.  Not successfully.  Your OS X Server must either be the DNS server for your network, or you'll need some other DNS server operating on your private network.   Again, you cannot reference ISP DNS services, nor can you reference Google DNS.  Nor should you use the dynamic DNS host name, either.  You should typically not be running DNS services for a domain registered by someone else, and the dynamic DNS host name is not yours.  I'd recommend registering a real domain, or using a subdomain of a domain you already have registered.   Why register a domain for a private network?  Because picking and maintaining a bogus domain is getting incrementally more difficult over time, given the increasing numbers of new top-level domains coming online.
