Configure server process
Dear All,
We are in the process of upgrading oracle applciation r11.5.10.2 to r 12.1.3 , 12.1 upgrade is about to complete,
a) can I upgrade to R12.1.3 with all latest RPC and patch fixes, and then configure "Configure and start server processes using rapidwiz"?. or I have to do this after upgrading to R12.1.1
b) in the above scenario, if I configure server process after upgrade to r12.1.3, then can I upgrade OAS to 10.1.3.5 later ?
c) Do I have to run rapid wiz (configure server process) as root user or app tier user?
Please advise
a) can I upgrade to R12.1.3 with all latest RPC and patch fixes, and then configure "Configure and start server processes using rapidwiz"?. or I have to do this after upgrading to R12.1.1
You have to apply those patches after you configure and start the server processes.
b) in the above scenario, if I configure server process after upgrade to r12.1.3, then can I upgrade OAS to 10.1.3.5 later ?
Yes.
c) Do I have to run rapid wiz (configure server process) as root user or app tier user?
As root user if you are using (applmgr and oracle) users to maintain the application and database tier node files. If only one user maintains all application/database tier nodes files then run Rapid Install as that user -- Just run Rapid Install as you did when you had to lay down R12 software.
Thanks,
Hussein

The server process could not be started because the configured identity is incorrect
Good morning
I have the same problem as here, every moning i must writing pasword.
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f95ee480-dda1-42fd-96af-596531e7ac2e/the-server-process-could-not-be-started-because-the-configured-identity-is-incorrect?forum=windowstransactionsprogramming
But my configuration is the same as was answer in this post, may be you can help me with another idea?. Thanks.
Windows 2008 R2 64BitBoth machines start with an automatic login so technically there is an interactive user.
Nevertheless, it is an interesting point. i will try to configure the applications to run under a particular user and see if that changes anything.
Thank you

Error in starting WebLogic Server Process
Hi,
I'm suffering a serious sproblem that results in failure in starting WebLogic

RalphHi,
Few comments here...
1) Seems your environment is not setup correctly but that is not the big cause here.....
2) This one is important, it seems that you installed weblogic using a different account and are trying to run it from a different account.
So the account with which you are trying to run weblogic does not have proper permission on
MW_HOME\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\fmwconfig\bootstrap\cwallet.sso
Right click on the file and go in properties ..
Enable full control, modify,Read and execute, read and write permissions for the user you are trying to start weblogic and apply it.
if this simple steps doesnt work, please enable more logging by adding "-Djava.security.debug=jpspolicy" to startup option and grab more details.
Good Luck let me know if this works. -

I don't have dbus or hal running, as I have disabled input-hotplugging. Is there any way to fix this?
Also, before I start firefox, I have 0 dbus processes running, and after it gives me that error message, I get:
pgrep dbus | wc -l
381
I have switched to chrome which doesn't seem to have any troubles. I would really like to have firefox though.
NVM: I went through the config options for firefox, and --disable-dbus exists
Last edited by tomd123 (2010-01-09 20:24:55)I'm not entirely sure, but here is what I would do:
1. Create a new user account and try to start firefox as that user.
2. are hal / dbus running (check with ps -ef |grep hal)
3. If 1. works and hal/dbus are running, log out and remove everything under /tmp owned by you , plus .dbus/session_bus/*. -
Is dedicated server process part of Instance or not?
Hi friends,
I am new to Oracle Database. I have been reading famous book "Expert Oracle Database Architecture" by Thomas kyte. At page no. 62 he has said that "This dedicated server process is not (by definition) part of the instance."
But in the [email protected] documentations at almost most of the places they have mentioned that dedicated server is part of an instance. Interestingly Tom Kyte has coauthored book. I got confused because Dedicated server process would also have PGA so it will be part of Memory so it should be part of instance. So has Tom Kyte said for that particular dedicated process and why? He must have said that with some reason? What is that?
I have also asked my trainer. But I didn't get satisfactory answer.
Thanks.67bf3bdd-9577-45a7-a776-f8e8d3c9c0d3 wrote:

Can you cite a specific instance of the documentation stating that dedicated server is part of the instance? Your embedded link is a 'mailto' link, not a url to a document.
I can offer specific links stating otherwise.
If I start at Oracle Database Online Documentation 11g Release 2 (11.2) I am at the portal for all database 11.2 documentation.
From there, do a search for 'dedicated server' and get the results of that search at Oracle Database Search Results: dedicated server
The first result returned is the definition, at Glossary
The definition states:
dedicated server
A database configuration in which a server process handles requests for a single client process.
If I follow the embedded link for 'server process', I get the definition of a "server process" at Glossary
Note that this definition is for all "server processes", not just dedicated server. It says
server process
An Oracle process that communicates with a client process and Oracle Database to fulfill user requests. The server processes are associated with a database instance, but are not part of the instance.

Oracle db 11g r2 Configuration of processes and session
I recently installed Oracle DB 11g R2 and 50,000 users connect to this database suggest me what would be basic configurations .
Processes and sessions parameters for database are 5000 and 5505 but it is little lagging now so if its possible i want to make it maximum of processes and sessions or automatic .50,000 users getting connected concurrently? How many users/sessions remain active at any given point of time?
For such high userbase/sessions better to go with share server configuration, since I cannot assume that even 10% of the users will be active at any given point of time so better to use shared servers and dispatchers. -
Reports Server Process gets crashed in 10.1.2.3.0
Hi,
We have 5 standalone production reports servers (10.1.2.3) load balanced through netscalar. We observed that the reports server process gets crashed intermittently which kills the reports jobs in the queue. Error as below is seen in the ipm.log under $ORACLE_HOME/opmn
08/08/12 10:38:21 [4] Process Crashed: rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~ReportsServer~rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~1 (498925945:6108) - Restarting
08/08/12 10:38:27 [4] Starting Process: rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~ReportsServer~rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~1 (498925946:0)
08/08/12 10:38:34 [4] Process Alive: rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~ReportsServer~rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~1 (498925946:2836)
Any idea wat could be causing the problem.. any configuration changes that need to be done like to set or increase some timeout parameters in the rep_server.conf, etc. Each time process crash is for exact 6 secs. It clears the failed jobs queue during this time. Do not see any jobs starting or ending during these 6 seconds.
Reports server version - 10.1.2.3.0
Platform - Windows
Report server type - Standalone

Below is the file change. When we set it to 'true' Viewer performed correctly.

2. Then a new configuration parameter "passNullParameterAsNull" needs to be set in configuration.xml under <viewer section with default value as false and which is an optional one. Usage :
<viewer queryRefreshPeriod="3000" queryRequestTimeout="1000" longRequestRefreshPeriod="6000" longRequestTimeout="10000" userDefinedConnections="true" passNullParameterAsNull="true" logLevel="debug" laf="dc_blaf" pageNavigation="true" switchWorksheetBehavior="prompt" defaultLocale="en" disableBrowserCaching="false" enableAppsSSOConnection="false">
When passNullParameterAsNull="false" , that means, when null is passed as parameter from one sheet to another during drill to link, the value will be converted in between to the value which is set as "ShowNullValueAs" in second sheet. eg: if ShowNullValueAs = "" in second sheet. Null value passed from first sheet will reach as value "" in second sheet. If passNullParameterAsNull="true", then Null value will always be passed as Null to second sheet irrespective of the value of "ShowNullValueAs" in second sheet.

Can a server process be assigned fixed (Logos) port?
Hi, This question relates to protecting logos traffic between a web client and a server process. We have a number of internet users accessing their own server processes on a single server machine. We would like to set up multiple VPNs for each server process so that users cannot interact with others server processes. However, because each server process is dynamically assiged a port by Logos at startup we cannot do this. Does anyone know if it is possible to set a predetermined port for each process via logos or are there any other alternatives to secure the traffic? Thanks
TRL,
OK...I missed that part .
Lookout does implement a "network security layer" that provides access privileges to each process, object and subfolders. Its drawback is the "lookout.sec" file, you have to copy it manually (or get it copied) to each client computer.
Also, there are some default settings you should change in order to get it working.
First: create a good lookout.sec file.
Give the Administrator account a password(by default it doesn't have one) and be sure it is not the default login user.
Create as many users (or groups of users) as you need (maybe one per process) using the User Manager. After doing that you can distribute "lookout.sec".
Second: Set network security properties to each process.
Open the "Network Securi
ty Properties" window by rigth clicking (in the object explorer) over the process you want to restrict access and left-click "Configure Network Security". Push "Permission..." button and select the user want to allow or restrict access.
Refer to chapter 10 Security to get more information about the available options.
Hope it works for you

Directing requests to a particular server process
Hi
If I have two Server process connected to a single Java dispacther how can I force my web dynpro application to be run from one or the other .
I am aware that the J2EE Engine uses cookies to register a request with a particular server process and thus by which dedicate all requests with specific cookie information to specific server processes.
Is there a way to provide dispatcher+server instance details in a URL and thus forcing a particular server process to service this request.
Regards
PranHi,
Sorry to say but all servers which are member of same RD Farm name are expected to have access of all application installed. We cannot control which specific server in a RD Farm a user is directed to. Still we can configure RemoteApp under RDSH server and assign
the user to connect to the specific RemoteApp by assigning RemoteApp User Assignment.
By this way, suppose we install WordPad as RemoteApp on RDSH server 1 and Notepad as RemoteApp on RDSH server 2 then provide the access to the specific user to access that RemoteApp under user assignment and don’t allow under other App so that specific user
can only access the assigned RemoteApp.
Anyway for redirection of server is managed by RDCB and there are different ways now to handle such as DNS RR, NLB, Hardware Load balancer or Dedicated Farm redirection and it depends on you what you prefer for your environment.
More detail.

1)How can we limit the max number of dedicted server processes in a adatabase? or it will be a memory dependent?or any parameter to limit the dedicated server processes?
2)when i connect through database:
a) sqlplus "/as sysdba" or
b)sqlplus
connect sys/password
in the above two a and b cases, the user connects to the database through dedicted server process...right? so i want to over write this default connection means in above two cases i need to connect to the database through shared server process. how its possible...can any one explain?
3)In dedicated connection the resources are fully utilized and in shared server connection the resources are splitted to various users because shared server connection supports multiple user environment. How the resources fully utilzed in dedicated connection and splitted to various users in shared server connection?
Can any one explain this?1)How can we limit the max number of dedicted server processes in a adatabase? or it will be a memory dependent?or any parameter to limit the dedicated server processes? You cannot limit the number of dedicated connections. There is no such parameter. The only restriction that you can impose here is via the PROCESSES parameter.
Doing so, will restrict the number of connections to a particular database (irrespective of dedicated or shared server connection).
in the above two a and b cases, the user connects to the database through dedicted server process...right? so i want to over write this default connection means in above two cases i need to connect to the database through shared server process. how its possible...can any one explain? That's right and I don't think you can override this behaviour. You can get a shared server connection by using TNS alias when your database is running in shared server mode.
3)In dedicated connection the resources are fully utilized and in shared server connection the resources are splitted to various users because shared server connection supports multiple user environment. How the resources fully utilzed in dedicated connection and splitted to various users in shared server connection?Well you need to understand the configuration difference in first place.
Whenever a client connects to an Oracle database (via SQL * Plus, any application etc.), the client connection asks the database server to create a process on the server which will service the client's requests. Then this newly spawned server process would take all the requests from the client and process them and send the results of the same back to the client. This is “dedicated” server configuration.
Each of these client connections takes up some resources (memory, CPU time, net-work bandwidth…) on the database server. More the number of client connections, more is the resource consumption, more is the delay is processing the requests.
The clients can be working continuously or working at intervals. If the clients are working at intervals (e.g. inserting a record in approximately 10-12 minutes), then the “dedicated” server process spawned by this client connection is idle for more than 95% of the time and still consuming valuable resources on the database server.
A database serving an application, where-in most of the server processes spawned by the client requests are idle for 90+% of the connect time, is a good candidate for Oracle Shared server mode configuration.
Shared server is configuration method in which one server process can handle more than one client connections/processes/requests. As there are a few number of server processes created on server, the server resources are utilised to a minimum. This en-ables the database administrator to define more number of dispatcher processes to handle the requests from the clients and more number of shared server processes that handle and process the requests between these dispatchers and database kernel.
Edit: "Hub" beat me while I was typing the whole story :-(

Dedicated Server Process or Shared Server Process
Hi,
I am little confused to justify the number of users that may be best to use dedicated server process or shared server process.
Kindly advice. In addition, make sure you account for administrative issues. It's a lot more challenging to trace applications using shared server connections. Shared server configurations also tend to introduce a variety of gotchas into a DBA's world-- at a minimum, most articles you find on the internet tend to ignore any shared server specific issues. That's one of the reasons that I tend to be of the opinion that if you have to ask, you probably don't need to enable shared server.

ORA-12500 TNSLISTENER failed to start a dedicated server process
Environment W2000 Pro SP4 latest fixes
I just installed database 10g (10.1.0) in order to have a 10g (10.1) database (ORCL1) as required by Oracle Warehouse builder and other business intelligrence products like disoverer (from discoverer suite) and Portal 10g (9.0.4)
during installation of 10g database I got following messages
==>Oracle Cluster Registry failed to initialize (in french) and went on
==>error when starting OracleCsservice
i retried and went on.
Install finishes correctly
I can access the new database (type warehouse) with sqlplus in a dos window
However I can't reach it through SQL*Plus of oracle 10g database and get ORA-12500 TNSLISTENER failed to start a dedicated server process message
OracleCSService starting
OracleDBConsoleORCL1 started

OracleINFRATNSListener started
OracleOraDb10g_home1iSQL*Plus Started
OraclePORTALBIASontrol Started
OraclePORTALBIProcessManager Started
OracleServiceASDB Started
OracleServiceORCL1 Started
...... other databases.....
I only have one LISTENER service (the one that was created for INFRAstructure instance) is it OK ?
All other databases instances I am using where created from INFRA DBCA. and all defined with a dedicated server.
I tried to define it through DBCA of Oracle database
left dedicated server and finish
won't work DBCA refuses
I also tried to Stop/start OracleServiceOrcl1 but it won't stop
database ORCL1 is unreachable from other instances:
from Oracle WareHouse Builder's Enterprise Manager console I get the same ORA-12500 message
same with Oracle Net Configuration Assistant of
Oracle Developer Suite Net assistant
What's wrong,
is one listener enough? is there a bug in the product?..
I read quite a few enties but didnt get the answer to my problemHello Werner,
What means error 1058?
i posted an entry in application server
Listener.ora and tsnames .ora where updated on INFRAstructure instance to be nearly identical to 10g DB instance (diference is one db definition)
However starting infrastructure and portal instances has become erratic and error prone:u
It takes about 20 minutes to start these two instances by hand has before i had only to start them and everything went smoothly (but took also a long time).
Now i get the following messages and have to use following opmnctl commands to have the whole thing running as follows:
==> start INFRASTRUCTURE
lancement de tnslsnr: veuillez patientez...
failed to start service, error 1058 ==> new message
TNS-12536: l'opération provoquerait le blocage ==>new
