Configure Solaris 10 with ath wireless card

So I'm in over my head on this one. I got a new laptop to tinker with, put OpenSolaris on it - integrated Broadcom wireless card didn't work, but my old DLink wireless card did. Yay. But I didn't like OpenSolaris. Too linux-y. So I went to something more familiar: Solaris 10. Only now the wireless card (neither of them, actually) doesn't work. I've googled and tried stuff for the past several hours and all I get is this:
"ath: unable to resolve dependency, module misc/net80211"
I've installed the packages. I've installed the 80211 for amd64 (yes, I'm running on an amd64). I've tried downloading the tarballs, extracting them and manually copying the kernel modules. Nothing. I've tried everything I know of (which isn't much, admittedly). I've tried update_drv, used /usr/X11/bin/scanpci, prtconf -pv to check out what all is connected, and everything says that there is an Atheros ethernet device on pci168c ... but I always get an "unable to attach device" error. And when I reboot, I'm bombarded with the aforementioned unable to resolve dependency" harassment.
What stupid thing am I doing wrong?!
Thanks in advance for your help -
Caleb

alan.pae wrote:
Completely remove the driver
pkgrm SUNWatheros
init 6
make sure that there is no ath file in the kernel directory and the same for the net80211 file.
touch /reconfigure
re-add the driver from some as yet undetermined media.
init 6
should work.
alanGot me closer, but it didn't work. I ended up going with Solaris Express Developer edition, and it worked out of the box. I really appreciate your help, though.
Do you have any recommended reading for delving into the depths of Solaris? I know enough to get myself into trouble and that's about it. I picked up the "Unix System Administration Handbook" (by Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder, Scott Seebass and Trent Hein). I've learned a ton from there, which has really helped me get some of the basics, but it's not necessarily Solaris specific.
Thanks again for your help!!!

  • Improve Download Speed with Mobile Wireless Card

I just purchased a GT MAX 3.6 Express LaptopConnect Card from AT&T to allow mobile internet access. While I can connect to the internet, the speed is very slow (I'm getting 3 of 7 bars). I understand there might be a Mac "booster" I can purchase. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Or, do you know how I can improve my download speeds with a wireless card? Thanks kindly for your help on this...

I received M Q today. To my surprise, there is no way to connect M Q to PB or any computer. I called Verizon and talked with their data connect department. They confirmed that M Q cannot be used as a modem The only device that will is Treo 700p. I am returning the unit by FedEx today. Treo is xpensive. So I will downgrade from MBP to PB G4 15" and use Verizon's Broadband Wireless PCMCIA card

  • [Solved] Communicating with nearby laptop with just wireless cards

Is there a way to communicate (e.g. exchange files) between a laptop with a wireless card and a nearby laptop that also has a wireless card, when there is no router nearby? Can two laptops with wireless cards communicate with each other without needing another device?

  • A strange problem with my wireless card

my box is lenovo ideapad y550, the wireless card is intel 5100. After i update to kernel 2.6.32, there is a strange problem occored.
i configure my wireless at /etc/rc.conf like this:
    MODULES=(...... iwlagn ......)
    wlan_wlan0="wlan0 essid xxxx key s:xxxxxxxxxxxxx
    wlan0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(wlan0)
    DAEMONS=(......network......)
    it works well at 2.6.31
but at 2.6.32, i find during the archlinux start, it tell me that "dhcpcd time out"
so i remove network from DAEMONS  and just load the wireless card's driver module, then i configure my wireless at the bash.
meanwhile, i find another strange appearance
    when i use:
       ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid xxxx key s:xxxxxxxxxxxxx
       dhcpcd wlan0
it tell me "dhcpcd time out"
and then dhcpcd wlan0 again ,it works.
    while i use:
iwconfig wlan0 essid xxxx key s:xxxxxxxxxxxxx
       ifconfig wlan0 up
       dhcpcd wlan0
    it works well.
i just put iwconfig before ifconfig, it works~ 囧!
now i have to remove network from DAEMONS at /etc/rc.conf and put the commands in the /etc/rc.local
    anyone have ideas?why?
thanx very much and sorry for my english. english is not my mother language. :-)

    Notes on trying out netcfg:
    - install netcfg: pacman -S netcfg
    - set up a profile file in /etc/networks.d (copy a file from /etc/networks.d/examples and edit it)
    - add the name of the profile file to NETWORKS=() in /etc/rc.conf
    - add '@net-profiles' to DAEMONS=() in /etc/rc.conf (put it after 'network',  prefixed with '@' so you don't have to wait for the network just to log in)
    - remove the name of your interface that you want netcfg to set up from INTERFACES=() in /etc/rc.conf (so it doesn't try to set it up twice)
    - also turn off whatever other network configuration daemon, like wicd, you might have been using.

  • Just got new T530 with wrong wireless card. Which model of Intel 6300?

Hey all, been surfing the google god for a few days but can't seem to find a secure answer that makes me happy. Just got a new T530 model 2359 laptop for my new job. Other then one stuck pixel that refuses to go away im pretty happy with it as I upgraded the CPU to the i5 3320 cpu model with the nvidia NVS 5400m GPU so it can power dual 24" monitors on my new Lenovo dock.
What sucks is that my manager got me the wrong wifi card, the standard thinkpad 1x1 b/g/n wireless card so I can't connect to 5ghz and or dual band routers like I have at my home which I really want for reliable and fast wireless cause I will be using it a lot around my work building as I do IT support for users so I wanna be able to use all the antenna's to help my range.
I took the laptop apart and I do see a third wire not connected to the thinkpad 1x1 mini card so should be able to use 3 antenna's on my T530?  My big question is which 6300 card would the correct one for my T530? I know apparently there are "white label" cards from IBM that don't work in certain machines but considering I'm putting it into a IBM, I would think I would be ok?
Also, I do have an HD webcam buit in and I've heard that apparently some Thinkpad models you can't use three antenna and have the webcam working?
I'm curious if this white label centrino 6300 is the one I need

  • Kernel panic with PCMCIA wireless cards.

UDEV throws a kernel panic when I insert either of two wireless PCMCIA wireless cards.
UDEV version 106 and the latest kernel 2.6.20.  Both wireless cards worked just fine previously
so I'm sure it's a problem caused by upgrading.
Has anyone else experienced this problem with PCMCIA cards?
    -A

Seems about rite but my system works foro some time and then at some random point freezes... guess it could be the same issue tho.
So its out of arch dev hands and needs a kernel update? Am i right to assume that next time kernel updates its the right time to try 20 series again?
Yeah im drunk, tried to check for typing tho ^^

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • Problems with Broadcom wireless card after Kernel Upgrade

After upgrading to version 2.6.39 of the linux kernel, I am having trouble with my Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card. The broadcom-wl driver no longer seems to work, even after reinstalling it from the AUR. The b43 driver seems to be able to connect to unencrypted networks, but can no longer connect to my family's WPA Personal encrypted router. Is anybody else having a similar problem?

As I understand it my laptop has been fine and it uses broadcom-wl, and I just re-yaourt it each time my kernel version changes using a cable in my router. But I believe there is something called dkms and a version of the driver for it, which (I haven't read fully into it) is something like a separate tree, which can (from what little I've read) eliminate this need to recompile every time, however I literally read this 5 minutes ago, from the AUR page for broadcom-wl and a quick google so I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to it than that.

  • Can WRT54G connect 2 XP laptops with different wireless cards, i.e. b and g,?

My WRT54G router works fine with a lenovo windows laptop (Intel wireless 3945ABG card) and my dell linux box but it is not accepting my old T40 laptop which has a dual-band wireless a/b card.   The WRT54G box indicates this router accepts both b and g wireless cards.
Question is can this router  simultaneously  hookup these 2 laptops  or do I have to resetup the router in order for it to work on the T40?
as it is now, the wireless network shows on my T40 and it appears to 'take' the access key i input but then the T40 just 'hangs' trying to get into that network.   I have set the encryption key on the router to WPA. and i want to keep this.

Make sure the computer that can't connect has DHCP enabled, Update the computer wireless card drivers, Check that the security you entered is correct.
    GoodLuck

  • How to configure mail accounts with a DualSim Card

    Hi all!
I have a BB 8520 and a Dual Sim Card (two lines in the same SIM, the work one and the personal one).
I have a corporate account Lotus Notes mail (with BES server) configured with the work line and i want also to configure my private mail account in my personal line, but when i think it's done, i get no messages in it nor i can send anything. Is it not possible? It is, to configure the work mail in the work line and when i boot my personal line, to receive via BIS my personal mail.
    I need your help.
    Thanks in advance

You can only have the PIN/IMEI of the device associated with one SIM or BIS/BES account at one time.
Each time you swap lines you will be required to re-enter/re-register the device with the associated account.
So, it is possible... I would never want to go through that hassle.

  • PowerMac G4 With Belkin Wireless Card

I recently moved my G4 (MDD) to the basement where I do not have wiring for the network. I have a belkin wireless pci card that I was not using so I thought I'd try to install it in the G4. How should I go about doing this. Thanks

If the Belkin card uses the Broadcomm chipset it will just work, otherwise confirm with Belkin that they supply Mac drivers.

  • Why pre-configured Solaris VM with 5 (!) virtual hard discs ?

I downloaded the pre-configured Virtual Machine of Solaris Express Edition for VmWare and extracted it as described.
Much to my surprise I found 5 (!) *.vmdks
According to my knowledge these represent 5 independent virtual hard discs.
    Why this ?
Can I merge all the 5 virtual discs to one single virtual disc ?
    Mike

If for some reason that the server is not cleaned up properly, you may see the error message:
"Error: - 'hostname' has been managed." (from Oracle VM Manager)"
You can manually reset the Oracle VM Server agent. First, shutdown the VMs on the server and make sure no VMs running on the server:
    # xm list
    # xm shutdown domain-id
Then, stop Oracle VM Server agent:
    # service ovs-agent stop
Clean up the Oracle VM server agent state files from /etc/ovs-agent/db location :
    # rm -rf /etc/ovs-agent/db/*
And restart Oracle VM Server agent
    # service ovs-agent start
One the Oracle VM Server agent is up and running, you can register the server with the Oracle VM Manager.

  • WRT54Gx2 with GX400 wireless card, what type of wireless transfer rates you guys getting?

is this normal or really slow?
with the router in the same room or 3 rooms away with full signal.
i am tranfering a 100MB file, it usually takes me around 60 seconds to transfer it each way. thats around 15Mbps correct?
if so why is it so slow when 1 its should transfer around 54Mb and the laptop wireless status saying its connected at 108Mbps.
how do i speed this thing up or do i have a bad unit?

Hi , when you are connected to a 100Mbps network, you do not in effect get pure 100Mbps transfer rates.....the like will give you more of an idea .... http://kb.iu.edu/data/aeud.html
