Host credentials using Sudo su - oracle - linux

Hi All:
I recently installed GC 10.2.0.4 in linux environment. All our db servers are linux. Acces to the oracle user on these database servers is restricted in that DBAs have to login as themselves and sudo into oracle using their own password
'sudo su - oracle'
there is no way we can login/ssh into these servers as 'oracle'.
as we know most of the functionality, including
*cloning a database/oracle home
*start/sto listener, database
*run a sql script ....and many more require that we provide the Host credentials i.e oracle userid/password. How do I accomplish that? When I provided my own userid which is in 'dba' group , it did not work.
In the setup->preferred credentials page for the hosts there is run as column which can be used to provide my userid and ask it to run as oracle. But this only works when I set at the default level for all hosts ,
when I try to do the same for each host.. it does not allow me to do that .. the 'run as' feild is locked .... any ideas as to how I can fix this ?
also , a lot of places it does not even care for the preferred credentials it again asks for host userid and apssword ... and looks like its willing to take no less than the 'owner' who installed the product ...namely 'Oracle'

Hi , I have done the sam (NB GC 10.2.0.4)
1) installed EMCLI client as:-
java -jar emclikit.jar client -install_dir=/usr/philw/em/
2) Set-up emcli to post to our OMS as:-
emcli setup -url="http://xxx.xxx.lan:xxxx/em" -username=xxxxx
(where xxx.xxx.lan:xxxx/em is out hosytname:port
and -username = the owner of oms)
3) The created priv delegation setting as:-
emcli create_privilege_delegation_setting -setting_name=ELBRUS_Setting
-setting_type=SUDO -settings="SETTINGS:/usr/bin/sudo –S –u %RUNAS%
%command%"
4) Then applied to target
emcli apply_privilege_delegation_setting -setting_name=ELBRUS_Setting -target_type=host
-target_names="targethostname"
give the message Apply Sudo/Powerbroker Settings operation successfully submitted.
Now I want to via Oracle Grid Control to be able to perform a Backup as me (philwilliams) but doing a sudo to the oracle
account.
[1] Sudo works on the target host
i.e which sudo
/usr/bin/sudo This matches the path in the create privs command
[2] I can on the host so a sudo to oracle OK
[3] However when in GC I cannot select the credntial so do as run as?
I have RTFM ;-) but think I am missing something obvious ? Any Ideas

Configuring SSH(Secure Shell) in solaris 10

I need help to configure ssh ( secure shell ) on Solaris 10.
I tried the following steps
On the Local Machine
a) Generated public and private key using key-gen
The private key is stored in
$HOME/.ssh/id_rsa
The public key is stored in
$HOME/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
b)I started the ssh-agent and executed ssh-add
On Remote Machine
c) I copied the public key generated in local machine from
$HOME/.ssh/id_rsa.pub
to
$HOME/.ssh/authorized_keys
d)I tried execute this command from local host to remote host
ssh $REMOTE_MACHINE
I got the following error

"Perform whole database Recovery" Host Credentials problem

I have minimal knowledge of the Oracle database system but currently I need to recover a Oracle 10G database on a Windows Server 2003 Standard edition.
Im trying to use the Oracle Enterprise Manager. Im logged into the instance with SYS as SYSDBA. On the Perform Recovery page there are fields for "Host Credentials" Could someone explain to me what credentials EM is asking for. Whatever account I try to use EM gives a Validation Error stating
Error - Connection to host as user test failed: ERROR: Wrong password for user
Ive tried both local and Active Directory accounts that have full admin rights on the Host machine. With the AD account I tried using just the user name and allso domain\username. The page asks for "To perform recovery, supply operating system login credentials to access the target database." which sounds like the account has to have both access to the host and the database. Does that mean I have to create an external account in the instance? I even tried that but im not sure I configured it properly.

Well found the solution. Atleast to this problem. Had to give the account "Log on as batch job" rights under Local Policy -> User Rights Assignment

According to /work/app/oracle/10g/bin/nmo this is Unix/Linux, not Windows. I assume permission settings are wrong, did you run root.sh (in $ORACLE_HOME)at the end of installation? Check permissions for nmo and nmb, you should see something like

Hi,
Any time you need to perform an operation over the OS, the OEM will request the Host Credentials (OS Username and password/e.g. user: Oracle, Password: xxxxx) to execute your request because when you connected to the web console you only enter the DB Username and password not the OS ones. That mean the OEM don't have the information necessary to connect to the OS to write something to disk, or execute something over the OS (Backup, recover,etc).
If you are using linux/windows the hostname credentials should be the user who has installed the oracle 10g database software, if Windosw the user you are using need to be member of the ora_dba group and have Local Security privilege 'Log on as a batch job'.
What you need to do is go to start----> Programs----> admin tools----> Local security policy --->local policies ---> user rights assignments
In the list to your right, look for 'Log on as a batch job', double click and add the same OS local user you using to access OEM web to the group.I hope this answer your question. You can always say to the OEM to save your OS username and password, this way you are not going to be asked all the time.

I am having a difficult time with creating Several Virtual Named Hosts with Apache2. I am trying not to use the Apache Manual modifications to the config file, sothat I can stil manage cia Server Admin. I am running OSX 10.5.2 and have several domains registered . Additionally I have a DNS Server running on the Xserver the primary zone is yadayadayada.com with zone as follows;
yadayadayada.com. Primary Zone
www.yadayadayada.com. ALIAS yadayada.com.
machineyada Machine 74.11.11.11
HomePage Service machineyada.yadayadayada.com:80
I have reverse Zones, and a Secondary zones setup for my DSL Service provider and my Domain host. I have two DSL Lines setup using a Cisco router , the cisco router provides DHCP , and multiplexes the two DSL lines to share bandwidth.
the web is setup as follows;
Domain_Name Address Port
* 80
yadayadayada.com. * 80
yadayadayada1.com * 80
I dont have Realms setup and all other Web config parameters are set as default
my name servers are registered , and have propagated verified by a nslookup. I have them setup to point to the same phydical server using the multiplexed ip adresses i.e.

ns2.yadayadayada.com 74.11.11.12
when I browse to either www.yadayadayada.com or www.yadayadayada1.com I get the default website, when the default web is deactivated i receive server not available .
According to the documentation once you have a unique domain name and a Zone for that domain you should be able to host multiple Named Virtual hosts, however after explicitly following the "Vague" directions I am still not able to get the configuration to return the correct sites. does anyone have any experiance with Virtual Named hosts, or must i resort to the Apache Docs ?

You're trying to access 'www.yadaydayada.com', but you don't have any 'www' record in your 'yadayadayada.com' zone file. However, since you seem to get a response from the web server clearly you have some kind of additional DNS setup that you're not posting here.
In any case, as far as Apache is concerned, there is no relationship between 'yadayadayada.com' and 'www.yadayadayada.com'. They are two completely different hostnames and I wouldn't expect Apache to serve yadayadayada.com's web site when you're trying to access 'www.yadayadayada.com'. You'll need to either assign a server alias for the other domain, or add an additional Virtual host for 'www.yadayadayada.com' (and make sure the DNS points to the right place, of course).

How to delete target host credentials

Hi,
I have manually cloned a oracle 8i DB @ machine A to a 10g server @ machine B. It is working fine.
After that I have configured OEM. But it is showing 2 target host credential shows both machine-A and machine-B.
Whenever I try to login to the database via enterprise manager console@ machine-B, it chooses the machine-A' as the host credentials and fails to login.
I wanna change/delete the machine-A host credentials from the machine-B. Pls advise me.

I have forgotton the admin passwordReinstall your Windows version or google for 'Windows password lost'. If your Windows installation is insecure (that's true for the most installations) you could be lucky.

The SSH Requirements section of the install guide details the aspects of ssh that SPS depends on

Keep in mind that as long you can invoke ssh command from a machine to another that authenticates without requiring any tty inputs, we can use that ssh connection setup for connecting to SPS nodes.

You'd want to figure out how those aspects of ssh software that you are using is different from that for openssh. The aspects detailed for openssh serves as a good example of what you'd need to figure out for a different kind of ssh software


The configuration of these aspects can be done at two levels.
<ol>
<li>The MS/LD config.properties. </li>
<li>The advanced parameter section on the host details page</li>
</ol>

<ul>
<li>configuration done via (2) has preference over (1)</li>
<li>configuration done via (1) applies to all ssh connections initiated by that node</li>
<li>configuration done via (2) applies to that specific ssh connection only</li>
<li>(2) is a comma separated list of key=value pairs. </li>

You are currently running IP BASE Feature Set ios on your router you need to upgrade the same to Advanced Security Services or SP Services Feature set to have SSH support in your router..

Host credentials problem in Vista Basic

Dear All,
I am using Vista basic OS. I have installed Oracle 10g. I have to use import functionality to import the data. In order to use that in enterprise manager,It asks to enter Host credentials. I tried with DBA credentials, It gives invalid password error. I also tried to add ora_dba group,but unfortunately I cann't add in vista basic as it doesn't support adding Local security group snapin. So please help me how and where to add host credential in order to access import functionality in enterprise manager.

As you already know Vista basic and home premium not supported but you can give a try by going to
First create a user with a password (hope you can do this vista basic)
control panel --> adminstrative tools--> look for local security policy (if it exists in vista basic) --> local policies and search for user assignments--> log on as a batch job , add your new user and apply changes. Then use this new user as host credentials.

Host Credentials problem

I am trying to 'Export to Export file' some individual schemas. I will take this information to a test/development server and import it there to work on.
When prompted for the Host Credentials I have problems. I am logged on as the Administrator of the domain and I am using these same credentials here only I get one of 2 different error messages.
1) When I use the credentials of
Username: Administrator
Password: admin_password
I get
-- Examine and correct the following errors, then retry the operation:
Error - ERROR: Failed to create command process
2) When I use the credentials of
Username: DOMAIN/Administrator
Password: admin_password
I get
-- Examine and correct the following errors, then retry the operation:
Error - ERROR: Wrong password for user
This is on Windows 2003 server.
Any suggestions would be apprecitated.

Ok. Could you check if the DBConsole Service is started as a Domain User or as a Local User.
My guess is that yoiu are facing the same problem as this thread. Check the solution to it. If it is not the same, then let me know.

Storedge 3510 failover configuration with 1 host

I people.
I'm new to the storedge configuration.
I have a Sun storedge 3510 - 2 controllers with 2 x host port fc and 1x drive port each.
I want to do a simple configuration - connect 1 host to the storedge with failover.
It's correct to connect the 2 controllers using the drive port - because i want failover?
It's possible to use only 1 pci single FC adapter in the machine?
I will connect the machine with the storedge usinge 1 fibre cable,
I will use the host port FC1. And to do the failover I will connect the 2 controllers
using the drive port fc3 e fc2. - THIS IS CORRECT?
My problem is who to connect the cables and who to configure the storedge. I'm
already connected to the COM Port.
Another thing i have in the first controller amber light - this is a hardware problem?
And wath is the best configuration to use with 3510 storedge, one host, and failover?

I, too, am running into the same scenario. We have a single 3510FC that is connected to a single host through two controller cards. The drives are configured as a single logical drive under RAID-5. We want to have this configuration multi-pathed for redundancy, not throughput, even though controller cards NEVER fail. [sarcasm] We will be using Veritas VxVM DMP for redundancy.
Unfortunately, I can only ever see the logical drive/LUN on one controller. The main connection is channel 0 of the primary controller. Whenever I try to configure it to simultaneously be on channel 5 of the secondary controller, the 3510 won't let me do it. I can't figure out how to get the LUN to be assigned to two host channels when one is on the primary controller and one is on the secondary controller.
I find this to be absurd. Controllers fail. That's all that there is to it. Yet the design of the 3510 (and the 3310 as well) seem to fight like hell whenever you want to spread the logical drives across physical controllers.
What's the solution to this one, guys?
