    Hi,
We are facing problem in configuring StorEdge 3300 in

36GB disks. We do not have any controller in this. We would
like make these disks accessible at OS level using format
utility. When we execute probe-scsi-all at Boot prompt we
    get the following output

I too have the same problem. Have a v440 and Storedge 3310, the first time I used the server it was all ok, after a week I booted it up again and when I use the command sccli i get the following error:
    [root@server1 /]# sccli
    sccli: no manageable devices found
sccli: Type "sccli help" for valid commands.
In the first day I used the server I remember I could access it in the format command, since I connected everything again, I can't see it no longer on the OS.
I did then following sequence off comands:
    stop-a
setenv auto-boot? false (I don't won't it to boot again)
    setenv boot-device false (I wan't to do a clean probe-scsi-all)
    reset-all
I then used the probe-scsi-all comand which had the following output:
    {1} ok probe-scsi-all

Before I did that, I checked if the cables where in the correct configuration I wanted, it's a dual buffer configuration that is going to be used on raid 1+0 configuration.
    After that I did:
    setenv boot-device disk0
    boot -r (to reconfigure)
I also download the pci scsi lvd controller driver and patches, nothing seems to work, I'm trying to recreate my first working day with server, until now, with no success.
The last thing I installed in that host was Disksuite? Might there be any kind of incompatility?

  • How to configure StorEdge 3510 as a SAN?

    Hi all, just joined!
We've got a StorEdge 3510 set up as a DAS (private loop mode) connected to three servers. We've gone through hell and high water getting things configured (firmware upgrades were particularly troublesome), but now that we've got everything running, we're starting to think about future expansion. However, despite my experimentation, I can't work out how to set them up in a switched fabric.
We have a test 3510 set up as Point-to-Point, connected to an Emulex 355 FC switch. In Loop mode, the device shows up as a SCSI device, but I can't get Windows to see anything on the end of the HBA when it's in PTP. Half the time, the HBA won't even acknowledge a link.
I can't work out where to start with this. The switch, admittedly, came from Apple with an Xserve RAID, but we've had the 3510 plugged into it in Loop mode and visible, so I don't think there's any problem with Apple ROM-ing the switch.
I've tried Zoning the switch, and Smart-Setting the ports to be Switched Fabrics, but nothing seems to make the StorEdge visible to the host. I thought that the test box might be at fault initially, since it has a Dell-EMC FC HBA and it wouldn't surprise me if it's ROM'd to EMC boxes only, but it seems that another box with a generic QLogic card won't see the StorEdge either.
Full tech specs of the system:
    -3510 dual-controller, firmware 4.23A, 12 146GB 10K disks
-Emulex 355 12-port FC SAN Switch
-Dell PowerEdge 1850 with Emulex LP1050Ex-E PCI-E HBA
-Dell PowerEdge 2850 with QLogic QLA210 PCI HBA
    -Windows Server 2003 x64
Any advice or starting points would be massively appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Rob

You are right in changing the A3510 to point to point
    From:
    sccli> sho host
    max-luns-per-id: 32
    queue-depth: 1024
    fibre-connection-mode: loop
    inband-management: enabled
    To:
    sccli> sho host
    max-luns-per-id: 32
    queue-depth: 1024
    fibre-connection-mode: point-to-point
    inband-management: enabled
The 3510 is now configured to work in a SAN.
In loop mode you will see the enclosure as an ses device. In point to point you won't, you will just see the available LUNs.
In P2P you should see all your configured logical volumes or disks with there WWN names on the hosts side
    From:
    sccli> show logical
LD LD-ID Size Assigned Type Disks Spare Failed Status
    ld0 5E714957 545.91GB Primary RAID5 5 2 0 Good
    Write-Policy Default StripeSize 128KB
    ld1 1F4ABC1D 545.91GB Secondary RAID5 5 2 0 Good
    Write-Policy Default StripeSize 128KB
    with
    Serial Number: 07FE18
You should see something like (these names are taken from a Solaris luxadm probe)
    Node WWN:206000c0ff07fe18 Device Type:Disk device
    Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c7t600C0FF00000000007FE181F4ABC1D00d0s2
    Node WWN:206000c0ff07fe18 Device Type:Disk device
    Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c7t600C0FF00000000007FE185E71495700d0s2
I don't have any clue how this would show up under windows. Putting a fabric on your switch should make things more tidy, but shouldn't fundamentally change anything.

  • Sun Storedge 6920+rrdtools&mrtg+cacti

    Hi,
i have configured cacti, via net-snmp with SUN servers & etc. I need help, with configure StorEdge 6920 to CACTI via net-snmp. Any help?

I see that you asked the same question on the cacti forums and I can provide much the same answer. I don't have a 6920, I thought it would not scale enough so I got a 9990...
Anyway, I would install StorAde and configure it for the 6920. Then run the folowing command to see what StorAde is looking at:
    rasagent -d 3 -r
The output can determine what StorAde knows about the 6920. Look for any snmpwalk in particular. Once you get that information, you can get cacti to graph it if it is graphable.
Normally I just do an snmpwalk of the agent on the system and then I can figure out roughly what is available. It takes a bit of skill but I imagine you can figure it out.
BTW, I will be going to the Czech Repubic soon. I believe you are there by your email address on the cacti forum..

  • Making Linux to see the logical drive

    Hi all,
I have a basic question about configuring StorEdge 3320 arrays. I have managed to create a logical drive, now to mount this drive, I need to make linux know about it. I don't know how to tell Linux to rescan and discover all the available drives (I would prefer if it does not involve rebooting). I can currently see devices
    /dev/sdc and /dec/sdd
But neither of them are readable by fdisk (it says, unable to open). I am running RHEL5.
    thanks
    Nilesh

In kernel 2.4 there were ways how to rescan the bus, unfortunately kernel 2.6 doesn't have it. I know that both Qlogic and Emulex provide scrips for rescaning the bus without need to reboot the box or unload and load back the driver.
    Rgs,
    -Oktawik.

  • Storedge 3510 failover configuration with 1 host

    I people.
I'm new to the storedge configuration.
I have a Sun storedge 3510 - 2 controllers with 2 x host port fc and 1x drive port each.
I want to do a simple configuration - connect 1 host to the storedge with failover.
It's correct to connect the 2 controllers using the drive port - because i want failover?
It's possible to use only 1 pci single FC adapter in the machine?
I will connect the machine with the storedge usinge 1 fibre cable,
I will use the host port FC1. And to do the failover I will connect the 2 controllers
using the drive port fc3 e fc2. - THIS IS CORRECT?
My problem is who to connect the cables and who to configure the storedge. I'm
already connected to the COM Port.
Another thing i have in the first controller amber light - this is a hardware problem?
And wath is the best configuration to use with 3510 storedge, one host, and failover?
Thank you. I need this help for now.. Please.

Isn't it wonderful when people respond?
I, too, am running into the same scenario. We have a single 3510FC that is connected to a single host through two controller cards. The drives are configured as a single logical drive under RAID-5. We want to have this configuration multi-pathed for redundancy, not throughput, even though controller cards NEVER fail. [sarcasm] We will be using Veritas VxVM DMP for redundancy.
Unfortunately, I can only ever see the logical drive/LUN on one controller. The main connection is channel 0 of the primary controller. Whenever I try to configure it to simultaneously be on channel 5 of the secondary controller, the 3510 won't let me do it. I can't figure out how to get the LUN to be assigned to two host channels when one is on the primary controller and one is on the secondary controller.
I find this to be absurd. Controllers fail. That's all that there is to it. Yet the design of the 3510 (and the 3310 as well) seem to fight like hell whenever you want to spread the logical drives across physical controllers.
What's the solution to this one, guys?

  • StorEdge 3510 FC array Configuration

    Hello,
I'm running Solaris 8 on a Neta 20. I have 3 StorEdge 3510 FC arrays attached; one controller each array. Each has 12x146 drives for a total of 2TB each array. As this if my first time dealing with this array, I need some advise. I configured my first array with one logical drive and 4 partitions. maped the luns, and reset. (oh I changed the seq to ramdom)
I am now trying to configure the 2nd array, however it will only let me make a logical drive of 512GB max. I've tried everything I could think of to overcome this. Any ideas, I was talking to someone today and they mentioned that solaris will only reconize 1TB. Is this true? If so does anyone have any ideas on a better way to configure the arrays. They will be used for large oracle databases.
    Thanks
    [email protected]

I presume that by now you have sorted this problem, but in case not, 512Gb is the maximum logical drive size when the i/o optimisation is random.
On the max disk size, I read somewhere that VxFS might help.
I found your query when looking for help on directing StorEdge events to the syslogd on our central loghost - which I still haven't found out how to do!?

I have a storedge 3310 hooked to my V440 running solaris 8 and not all the logical disks are showing up in the format command. • 3310 configuration, please give me some help.

Hi all, I'm having some trouble making a specific configuration for the storedge 3310, I'm making a script using sccli utility, for my configuration I have to remove all the configuration that storedge comes with by default, but I must do so using sccli. When I remove both host luns I can't acess the storedge device, I already posted this question to portuguese assistant of sun, but it has been more then 3 weeks without a reply.
So tryed using another method, I first remove all the spares that come with the raid 5 default configuration, and I then remove one off the host luns, atfer that I remove the logical drive that was in it, and I was going to do the new configuration, but I stoped on the folowing problem, how can I create a raid0 drive on channel2 using all six disks and then create another raid0 using the remaining 6 disks on channel0, and after that make a mirror of one in to the other?
For the configuration of the raid0 it's easy but the to raid1+0 is what's troubling me:
    echo "create logical-drive raid0 2.0-5 primary"|sccli -o -w 10.1.0.100
after that I would create a new lun map using the map command, and then remove all the configuration on channel0 and then create the new configuration
    echo "create logical-drive raid0 0.0-5 primary"|sccli -o -w 10.1.0.100
my question is how can I now mirror one to the other?
I really would like to know, I've been thinking about this for some time, but I still haven't found a solution, if someone could please point me what I'm doing wrong, I would really apreciate-it.
    Orlando
P.S. Sorry for my bad english

I would like to thank everybody that has even think about my question, I found part of the answer (or so I think I did) in the Best Practise Guide:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-7293-12/bestpractices.html
"Assign two drives as global spares, four drives to the RAID 1 logical drive (it automatically becomes RAID 0+1) and the remaining drives to the RAID 5 logical drive. Scale storage capacity by adding disks to the RAID 5 logical drive."
So I can assume that if I do the following configuration:
echo "create logical-drive raid1 0.0-5,2.0-5 primary"|sccli -o -w 10.1.0.100 this would create a huge Raid1 logical-drive that would do raid (1+0) it would do stripping among all the drives, although this might be highly expensive this would carry an throughput advantage (writting/reads) my problem is how can I do this from a command line, if I in order to operate the storedge using the sccli I need to have a lun active, but if I clear all the luns, then I can't acess the device, but in order to delete the default settings and delete the logical drives that come preconfigured I need to delete the host lun first, you probably can see my dilema now, one big loop :(
any help, or sugestion will be appreciated
    Thanks in advance
    Orlando Reis

  • X4200 + RHEL4 32bit  + SG-XPCI1FC-QLC + STOREDGE 3510

    Hi,
    this is my configuration :
    - sun x4200
    + SG-XPCI1FC-QLC
    + STOREDGE 3510
    - RHEL 4 32bit (CENTOS)
This is an application server that have to run cobol applications connected to oracle
and for this i must use a 32 bit system (rtsora for cobol don't build on 64).
But i have a problem with the storedge i can't see any partition mapped to this host!
If i use the 64 bit os version with kernel 2.6.9-22.ELsmp all work fine on the same at 32
the qla6312 kernel driver load correctly but i can't see any attached scsi device.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi, thanks for response,
no i've not compiled a new kernel i installed the 32bit release of RHEL-4 (because i have a cobol application that must work a 32).
I have 2 server identical: 2 x4200 the first with RHEL-4 64bit the second RHEL-4 32bit the second don't work but if i made a kernel update on RHEL-4 64bit with the new one the controller stop to work!
    I havo no idea.

  • Sun StorEdge 3510

    Dears,
    Good day,
I need your support to guide me to configure Sun StorEdge 3510. I have 24 Disks and single controller. I is connected to one host. I want to configure it with the most biggest storage. I want to implement RAID 5 on 11 disks on the first enclosure and the same to the second enclosure with two disks spare each one in the same enclosure.
Can you guide me throw this?
    Thanks a lot.

Wow, it took me about 5 hours to set mine up from scratch and I'm a pretty strong storage guy. Here's an overview of what I did. Most of the info is in the 3510 documentation.
Step 1 is connectivity. Get your host to see the 3510 (FC).
Step 2 - use the cli utilities to setup the IP address on the controller (in-band).
Step 3 - ssh in, setup the RAID and presentation of the luns
Step 4 - rescan on the hosts to see the new luns

  • StorEdge 3310 RAID hung.

During the billing run on a Sun Fire V440, the attached 3310 hung. Reboots of the server did nothing to improve the situation, but once the RAID was powercycled everything was alright again.

The question is whether or not to upgrade the firmware. Since the current firmware is so old (version 3.x) there seems to be special instructions to bring it to 4.x, and eventually 4.15G. Which would include OS patches as well. (117171-12).
Or, just carry on, since this has only happened once (during the last billing run) in the last 9 runs/months.

What is the difference between the host/drive channel? Besides the fact that they are their for connecting to disk drive or to host. Because lets say I connect the first RAID controller to the second one, host-to-host configuration from one RAID to another, will the host see this transparently?
By the way, I tried the JBOD method you mention so basically just connect one of the RAID unit to the other one just as a JBOD and the RAID controller can see the disks on a difference channel but only half of the disk because the RAID I/O actually have internal conneciton to half of the disk, while the other half is jumper.

  • Oracle RAC on Solarais Configuration Issue

    Hi,
We are trying to install Oracle RAC 10g R2 on Solaris 10.
    Following are the products
    1=> Soalris 10 OS
    2=> Sun Cluster 3.1
    3=> Veritas Volume Manager
    4=> Veritas Cluster File System
Can i deploy Oracle RAC using the above listed Software.
Here we have not purchase any of the Cluster Volume Manager.
Is the CVM required to install Oracle RAC.
Is there any alternative wherein we can install Oracle RAC without using CVM like for example using the RAW device where the VM will manage storage from a single node rather than buying the CVM that will allow to manage the storage from multiple nodes.
Also i would like to highlight is suggestion for using ASM is rule out hence ASM would not be used.
Can anyone suggest me some solution to the above problem.

Well, my impression is that you don't really know what your requirements are and you are trying to fit the technologies somehow. Worse yet, there is no clear understanding how those technologies fit together and as long as you explain what your vendor is saying you (which vendor?) they don't have clear idea either.
I would also suggest to review your decision to use Sun Network Data Replicator for DR site. Consider Oracle Physical Standby database instead - it's more flexible solution and doesn't limit your choice of storage stack.
    1) Do Oracle RAC 10gR2 requires any Veritas Cluster Volume Manager
Words "any" and "Veritas" contradict in your question. But the answer is no. RAC require shared storage which can generally be one of those:
    - raw devices with or without some kind of cluster volume manager
    - cluster file system
    - NAS storage (NFS mounted)
    - ASM with raw devices for CRS files (OCR and voting disks)
    2) Does Oracle RAC 10g R2 require any Vertias Cluster File System or it can sit on normal Vertias File System
Again, Oracle database files MUST reside on shared storage and non-clustered file system is not an option.
    3) Is there any solution where we can use the Sun Cluster with Veritas Componets to configure RAC.
If I recall correctly, Sun Cluster includes in it's license some of component of Veritas storage stack. So you might be all set. You should turn to documentation on that stage and see exactly what you have licensed and if your stack allows shared storage. You might want to have a look at http://www.sun.com/software/whitepapers/solaris10/solaris_cluster.pdf
and Oracle Certification Matrix on Metalink.
