Configure usb keypad to imac keyboard and indesign

Finally got hold of a usb numeric keypad to use for my indesign shortcuts. It works but doesn't not work on the shortcuts. (eg. opt+1). Does anyone know how I can get it to work.....I can get it to switch between numbers and acting as a cursor control, but will not use shortcuts.
Thanks

It's possible that you won't get it to work. Get used to using quick apply or buy a new keyboard.

  • My iMac keyboard and track pad freeze up

My iMac keyboard and trackpad freeze up on occasion.

I deleted the mouse by selecting it in the bluetooth options and clicking the minus tab. I went ahead and reinstalled OS X right afterwards. Right now I am having to use a USB mouse and keyboard. I disconnected both prior to start up. I get a widow that shows a demonstration on how to install batteries into a wireless mouse only way to pass that screen was to reattach the USB mouse. Then with a fresh startup no resolve.

  • HT3924 can i use iMac keyboard and mouse when it is in Target Display Mode and attached to my MBP?

I can attach my iMac to my MBP via thunderbolt and run it in Target Display Mode, so that itsimply becomes a screen attached to my MBP.
What I really want is for the keyboard and mouse of my iMac to also operate as if they were attached to my MBP, but I cant seem to achieve this.
    Is it possible?

Its a wireless mouse and keyboard - dont think I can re-pair the keyboard to MBP since I need it talking to the iMac to enable and disable TDM?
I expected TDM to natively pass through the mouse and keyboard to the MBP, since that is the obvious user requirement. But this does not happen.
So I guess I want a workaround so my iMac keyboard and mouse can drive my MBP while attached via Thunderbolt cable in TDM mode.

How about telling us how your keyboard & mouse are not working?  Are both using batteries or are they wired?  If batteries, have you checked and/or changed them?  Keyboard & mouse Apple's or 3rd party?  If you are still under warranty and/or have AC, call them & let Apple deal w/your problems.
If possible, try another keyboard & mouse?
Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.

  • Securing iMac, keyboard, and Magic Trackpad to a table

I want to use an iMac with wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad as a kiosk in a museum lobby, and wonder what the best way would be to secure them to the desk so they don't walk away. Any ideas?

I don't there's anyway to do that, unless you damage it putting chains on it.

  • IMac Keyboard and Leopard

    Hi
I have just upgraded to a new 20" iMac from a Mac mini running Leopard. When I got the iMac home, it came with he Leopard CPU drop-in DVD to upgrade from Tiger. When I used the Leopard Install DVD to restore the system I was using on the mini from a time machine backup, the new keyboard stopped working. I had to plug in another and I have downloaded 3 different updates and installed to no avail. Anybody have any thoughts?
    Thanks
    Garrett

I just upgraded a Mac Mini last night from Tiger to Snow Leopard, and I'm now experiencing the same problem. Details:
If I Safe Boot, the problem goes away, so it's clearly an issue with something loading up in software.
    I had 4 login items:
    Google Software Update
    Cisco Clean Access Agent
Microsoft AU Daemon (from Office 2004)
    iTunes Helper (10.2.1)
I say "had" because I trashed the Cisco Agent since the version I had doesn't work with Snow Leopard anyway.
I do not have an "Other" below Accounts.
In my Library/Startup Items, I have a few items from Parallels (I think version 3, which is old too). Not sure how to disable these without deleting them. I do have a newer Parallels installation disc lying around that I never bothered to install.
I'm not using an Apple mouse - it's a Logitech wireless mouse with a Logitech USB dongle plugged into the back of the Mini.
    I'm using a Kensington keyboard.
I don't use Safari regularly as Firefox is my daily web browser. I don't empty the Safari Cache or the History List regularly (it should be pretty empty anyway, since I use Safari probably once every 3 months).
My Hard Drive has 11GB free (it's an 80GB drive, so that's a decent amount of free space).
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

  • IMac 5K and indesign glitch

I am looking for someone who can help to see if this is a problem with indesign or I am having bad luck with the 5k iMac. I ordered a 5K iMac with these specs:
    i7 4ghz
24 gigs of ram (8 gigs Apple RAM, 16 gigs Kingston RAM)
    1TB flash
    AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB
    Yosemite 10.10.1
I had graphic glitches in the display and incredibly poor performance with Indesign, Illustrator and Acrobat (all latest versions fully updated). Apple replaced the iMac. I was away over Christmas, so when I came back the new one was waiting for me. I began installing my apps yesterday prepping it so it can be production ready ASAP. I noticed right away that I was having the exact same problem I had with the last. I am hoping someone can do a test to see if they have the same results with Indesign and the upgrade GPU AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB.

My iMac has been in use for a month now and never shown trouble like that. But then I never used Mission Control or Spaces - until I tried it right now. Now I can confirm almost the same graphics errors, on the right margin in the minimized Mission Control view. Not as wide as yours, roughly covering the area of the scroll bar - I can still see most of the "split layout view" thingy bottom right. Correct me, if I resize the doc window to two thirds width, the bit smear intrudes further.
There was subtle change when I attached or detached an external monitor, some bit smear with desktop background would show in different stretches.
Regarding performance - Currently I do no heavy lifting in InDesign. Xcode compile times are really fast, as is the program start even in the debugger.
I noticed that Illustrator was a bit "jumpy" when scrolling, but blamed that on Illustrator.
System info: like yours, but 32 GB original Apple, Radeon R9 M295X 4096.

  • My Imac keyboard and mouse are frozen.

The screen just shows the screen saver, and I know that the mouse and keyboard have new batteries and are turned on. Wirelessly. ???
Using my macbook to ask this.

does touching the power button awake it?
Do you have a USB Mouse or KB to try?

  • Is the new iMac keyboard (small) the same as the one in the new 15" MBP?

Hi, I have an easy question but I couldn't find any information on the Internet. I just bought a 24" iMac and I was willing to buy a skin for the keyboard (I already have an iSkin for my 15" 2008 MacBook Pro and is great). When I opened the box I had the surprise of a smaller keyboard (without the number keypad). So the skin that I was looking to buy for the imac keyboard did not fit in the new one. My question is, if the iMac keyboard is the same as the one in the new 15" MacBook Pro. I ask this because I can't find a skin for the new small imac keyboard and if it is the same as the MacBook Pro I can buy the skin for that keyboard. But before wasting my money I wanted to be sure they are the same.
Thank you very much in advance

That's no news, although it there are other things apart from the layout that could make them different: the spaces between keys and the format of the keys are also important. As I don't have an new MBP I was wondering if someone could tell me if the keyboard of the imac and the one of the MBP are the same.

  • Slim Keyboards and G5 2.7

Just purchased a slim aluminum keyboard. Since plugging it in my "corded" mighty mouse (mice...really.. I've tried several) occssionally seems to freeze. I still have the cursor movement but the mouse becomes inactive. In fact, the entire machine freezes... have to do a power down with the power button. I've downloaded the latest keyboard software but doesn't seem to help. Is this a known problem?

I have the Apple aluminum keyboard plugged into a Power Mac G5 (the last +dual core+ model) along with a Mighty Mouse. It works fine.
In case there is a bus-power issue, try removing all other USB devices except for the keyboard and mouse. Or connecting the keyboard and mouse to separate USB ports. Or, if you have a self-powered USB hub, connecting the keyboard and mouse through the hub.

  • Using one keyboard and mouse with two computers

I have just bought a 27" iMac and have connected my MacBook to it via the DisplayPort. When using the iMac as an external display for the MacBook I want to be able to use my iMac keyboard and mouse to control. What is the best way of doing this, as I understand Bluetooth will only pair one device at a time? I want to be able to switch my keyboard and mouse between the 2 machines as smoothly as possible... Any suggestions or is this going to be too compicated?

I'm curious; if you pair your keyboard/mouse with one computer, does it lose the pairing to the previous computer?
To answer your question: yes; the both computer would need to be able to talk to each other via a network connection. If you can connect your Macbook Pro to the Internet wirelessly via the built-in Airport, then you can use the wired ethernet port, via a cross-connect ethernet cable (normal ones are straight-thru), to connect to your Power Mac (or connect them via a hub).
However, if you're not comfortable with networking, you may not want to take this approach.

  • Keyboard and Mouse pad don't work.

Can anyone help me? I figured I should come here before bringing it to a shop.
I have upgarded my ram from 2gigs to 4gigs with Crucial ram.
Though regardless if I have the new ram or old ram in, my keyboard and mouse pad don't work. There were occasions before when the keyboard would lock up for a short while, but I have no idea what's causing this.
My only thought would be that sometimes my computer would get unusually hot, but i just turn it off when that happens.
Everything else works fine, the USB ports work with keyboards and mouse's, the power chord works fine, there seems nothing wrong with the battery or display.
    Thanks you for any help.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Has your keyboard and mouse quit working altogether or just when the computer is hot? And do I understand that an external keyboard and mouse will work with no problems?
And I am wondering about your computer running unusually hot. Are your fans operating properly? You might want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test to be sure that the fans and thermal sensors are working properly. If they are not, you will get one or more error codes.
Another thing to do to check when your Mac is unusually hot is the Activity Monitor. Select "All Processes" at the top right and check for any process running that should not be which is using lots of CPU.
I don't know if the keyboard problem is related to the heat problem or not, but I would want to know what is causing the heat problem too. Over time, excessive heat can cause damage to the logic board. It could also conceivably damage the ribbon cable which connects the keyboard and I would guess that the trackpad could also be affected. So it is important to see what is going on here. If you have been experiencing excessive heat on a regular basis, this might be the underlying cause of your keyboard and trackpad problems. If so, the heat problem will have to be fixed or the other problem will recur over time.
Try the AHT and post back with any results. Also, use iStatPro to check on your fans and make sure both are running at roughly equal speeds and that they run faster when the computer gets hot.
    Good luck!

  • Number lock - ThinkPad USB keyboard and USB numeric keypad- they're not independent

Because Lenovo has discontinued my favorite keyboard ever, the USB ThinkPad with Ultra Nav full size keyboard with number pad, I bought a keyboard and numeric pad separately. I ended up with the 55Y9003 ThinkPad USB Keyboard with Track Point and the 33L3225 numeric keypad. That gives me the full solution, a good keyboard with a numeric keypad. Well, almost.
The issue I'm having is that the number lock on the main keyboard (turns the "uio", "jkl" and other keys into a number pad) controls the number lock on the separate keypad, and vice versa. What I want is for the numeric keypad to always be set for numbers and my main keyboard to always be set for letters. Instead, what I have is both are set for numbers or not, together. This of course defeats the main point of having a separate keypad for the numbers.
Is there a setting somewhere to fix this? I'm running Windows XP Professional on an HP Compaq desktop computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I have the same problem. Would be interested to hear of any solutions as well.

  • Wireless keyboard AND Password logon on iMAC

I am a new Apple user with a MacBook Air and a iMac for professional use and I just ran into the problem that my iMac, configured with password protection, went to sleep and my wireless keyboard lost its pairing because I paired the keyboard with my MacBook Air. The mouse is working on my iMac but I cannot logon because I cannot type the password. Apple's solution is to go out and borrow or buy a wired keyboard or USB wireless keyboard and then you can logon. That is a kludge!
Apple, Hey Apple, I don't want to be the Annoying Orange but wouldn't it be much more elegant and friendly to have an on-screen keyboard where I can 'type' the logon password with my mouse? In the wireless era problem recoveryshould be made easy. Just a 2 finger or right finger click and the keyboard option pops up. Almost everyone has a wired or a USB mouse laying around but not a 'spare' keyboard. From a company that sells high-end, user-friendly, expensive, tools for our private and professional life I expect more. BTW as a 20+ year user of MS I do like my Apple tools but found some productivity and efficiency limiting bugs that really should have been resolved years ago. I will post those in the appropriate forums.

Netflix app is not populating at all on my 55l7200u anymore.  We had Toshiba support come out yesterday to replace a board in the tv to stop a whistling sound coming from the tv and now Netflix App is not working.  We press the button on the remote and the screen goes black for 2 seconds and then automatically jumps back to cable.  We've tried resetting the factory settings, updated the firmware last night and still nothing.  It's not even coming up with an error.  When we go into the settings and look for information, we found a 'Netflix setup' but there is no Netflix ESN and 'Deactivating' Netflix option does nothing.  The other App we use is working correctly (you Tube).
    Please help.
