Configure Wireless Access-point

Hi
Can anybody explain me how to configure a cisco wireless access-point in a combination of Voice and Data vlans.
Thanks
Mahmood

You would configure the voice vlan in the AP as if it's just another data vlan. You just need to make sure the wireless ip phone are able to associate to the AP and that the IP phones are able to reach the Call Manager.

I have manually configured my iPhone 4s to point to a wireless access point that I no longer use. How do I delete it from the list of access points on my iPhone?

You can only "Forget this Network" while actually connected to the network, so ignore iamjeremi's post. Other than restoring your phone as a new device, you can't if you cannot connect to the network anymore.

  • Wap200 wireless access point configuration

    hi guys
I have a wap200 wireless access point configured and connected to the switch 2690 switch on vlan1, when I connect the wireless access points to the switch the port become disabled, is there a way to overcme this problem.
    thank you

    Hi Senzo.
Do you know the reason for the port becoming disabled? Can you run a "show int status err" on the switch and see if it give a reason for the port shutting down?

  • Apple TV 2G (Airplay and Homesharing) can only stream from devices on the same wireless access point range??

    connection:
40 Mbps Fiber Broadband connection using:
    Devices:
    1. Main Modem/router (AP1): Huawei HG8245 (provided by ISP) - Wireless enabled.
    2. Remote Access point (AP2): Linksys/Cisco E3200 Wireless gigabyte router flashed with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/14/11) mini (Cascaded -wired- LAN to LAN from main modem).
    3. Wireless Repeater to cover a dead spot  (AP3): Linksys/Cisco E1000 wireless repeater.
    4. Apple Tv (AT2G) with home sharing/airplay enabled.
5.( Ipad) with home sharing on itunes enabled.
    6. Win7 (PC) using iTunes with Home sharing enabled.
all devices are updated to their latest firmware.
In order to cover a large 3 story house with Wifi. I had (AP1) is located on the first floor, while (AP2) is located in the basement floor directly wired by LAN to LAN with (AP1). (AP3) is located on the Ground floor away from the living room to repeat wireless network into the back yard. While (AT2G) is located in the living room on the ground floor right in the middle of both (AP1) + (AP2) while connected via Wifi.
Network SSID, security, passphrase and wireless settings of (AP2) are identical to (AP1) to create a single big LAN/WLAN roaming network where all devices connected to both wireless access points can find/share the others. As understood, it's refered to as bridging.
I have noticed that my iphone/ipad does not show the airplay button anywhere within the wireless network. it seems that the apple TV randomly choses to connect to the AP with stronger signal, or switch to the other in case of a reboot to one of them.
to elaborate further, if i was sitting in the living room (groundfloor), trying to airplay some you tube contents via Wifi to my Apple TV, i may not find the airplay button available all the time, i found out the reason is while i'm wirelessly connected to AP1, the Apple TV was connected to AP2 and both deviced cannot detect each others to enable my purpose. that goes the same for Home Sharing. only if my Ipad/PC and Apple Tv are on the same wireless AP. they would detect each others immediately.
although, the second AP (AP2) is suppose to extend my wireless network of the same subnet in which any device connected can be found.
After all sorts of trial and error tweaking my router/access point, I thought the problem would be due to the Linksys 3200 capability of bridging WLAN and lacks few protocols that enables my purpose. i have flashed the firmware to a DD-WRT, but again, problem was not solved.
I have not tried having my Apple Tv wired to either router/AP, but i assume it may work well if i do so. i still need to solve this wireless connection issue though.
Am i the only one with this problem, would there be something wrong with my setup?
    Your feedback is highly appreciated.

You may or may not already have your network set up correctly, it's just that I can't tell from what you have said.
I have a main router provided by my ISP, I have several other Airport Extremes and Airport expresses connected by Ethernet, all set up to bridge the network created by the main router.
Each maker has their own settings, but bridging should be reasonably obvious. In simple terms my main router distributes IP addresses to all devices, the Airports bridge that network by passing these addresses to the devices from the main router. A base station that isn't in bridging mode will distribute its own addresses to the devices connected to it.
I don't really follow your next point.
instruction for configuration vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, the best course of action here is to refer to the manual. If everything is set up properly the addresses of everything on your network will have identical sets of numbers for the first 3 of 4 groups of numbers that make up an address, the last set must always be different. I think the part you are referring to with your DD-WRT is the option to have Ethernet and wifi bridged or not.
Some routers may be easier to configure than others, but generally speaking they should all work with the Apple TV. 5Ghz is less likely to suffer interference but it is much more likely to be blocked by solid objects, it may or may not be an advantage.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • I can't get my macbook to access shared files on a windows computer when it's connected through a wireless access point.

I recently bought a Netgear Wireless Access Point to use in the office so we can have a wireless network.  I configured the wireless network, and I am currently connected to the internet.  However, I no longer can access the shared files on the Windows computers like I could when I was hardwired in with an ethernet cable.  I've disabled all of the internal firewalls on all of the computers (and there's no firewall built into the WAP), all the computers are on the same workgroup, and I've tried accessing the computer with the shared files directly via the IP address using the instructions found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8849.html.
My computer sees that the other computers on the network are there.  They show up in the network view from the finder.  However, when I try to connect to them, it tells me the connection failed.  When I click connect as, it says:
    "Connection Failed
"The server “PC-ASSISTANT” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
When I try to connect via the "connect to server" on the finder, I type in "smb://10.0.0.103/Word Processing"  It tells me:
"There was an error connecting to the server “10.0.0.103”. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again.
If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator."
I have no clue what the problem is. I'm not really an IT person or a networking guru.  Can someone please help?

  • WRT310N as a "Wireless Access Point"

    Hello,
I am in the market for a wireless device to add to an existing subnet.  I see many tutorials regarding routers as wireless access points, but I am not sure if this device will work.
My plan is to connect one of the switch ports to an existing switch and not use/configure the WAN port.
I would rather purchase a router then a true WAP do to the fact that it can also act as a router (should I need it later), whereas a WAP cannot.
Any thoughts on this is appreciated.

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly
the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the
router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power
cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable
to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug
in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Open the setup page of router using 192.168.1.1 then put in the
password as admin...all you need to do is do the wireless settings such
as Radio Band Frequency to Standard 20 MHZ frequency, channel to 11.
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
    thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet
Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • Using WRT54GR as a Wireless Access Point only

I have a WRT610N as my main router. I want to use an existing WRT54GR purely as a wireless access point and ethernet switch. Any suggestions on how best to do that so I can still access the WRT54GR to make configuration changes? Right now I have the network functionality working by simply not using the Internet port on the WRT54G but by going to 192.168.1.1 I can only get to the WRT610N.

    (Restarting this thread).
I made the change you suggested and statically assigned 192.168.1.200 to the WRT54GR. I can reliably access it through this IP address. I connected it to the rest of my network by using one of the 4 switch ports (not the Internet port). I disabled DHCP on it and configured the Wireless settings to be the same (same SSID and Security Settings) as my other wireless router.
What I'm finding is that devices in my house won't assoicate with it. I tried changing the SSID to a different value; devices were able to see the new SSID but when I entered the pasword they told me that no DHCP server could be detected. A wired device that I plugged into another of the 4 switch ports on the WRT54GR was able to pick up an IP address from the main router just fine so I know that basic connectivity is OK.
To achieve what I want (i.e. the WRT54GR just acts as a wireless base station to extend wireless coverage in the house), do I need to connect the WRT54GR to the rest of the network using the Internet port rather than a switch port? If so, what configuration settings do I need to set up so that all the devices can get their IP address from the main router?

  • Converting a BEFW11S4 V.2 router to a wireless access point. Can it be done?

I recently upgraded my home wireless router to an N device.  Now, I'd like to use my old B wireless router as an access point to improve coverage on my property.  I'd like to place it in a location in my house too distant from the N router to connect it with a cable.  Any way to configure the old B router as a wireless access point?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    Dave

yes..u can certainly configure the router as an AP ... follow the steps below :
1)connect the B-router's port 1 to once of the LAN ports of the N-router
2)access the B-router's web ui , using its ip address
3)configure the wireless settings....in case , you want to make a roaming wireless network , the wireless settings on both the router should be same
4)if the ip add of the N-router is 192.168.1.1 , then change the ip add of the B-router to 192.168.1.2 and disable its DHCP server ..

  • How do i set up a wireless access point with ny time capsule

I am using a new Airport Extreme and want to utilize my older TC to create a wireless access point or maybe an aditional router using the same newtwork.  What are the steps to set this up?
    Thanks
    Alamo

You will first need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule.
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Then, temporarily locate it in close proximity (same room or nearby) to the AirPort Extreme.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click the tab in the upper left hand corner of the AirPort Utility window that reads Other AirPort Base Stations (1), then click the Time Capsule
AirPort Utility will take a moment or two to analyze your network, then announce that the TC will be configured to extend your wireless network.
Enter a name for the TC (you can use the same device name that you used before if you wish) and click Next.
AirPort Utility will take a another minute or two to configure the TC and then tell you that the setup is complete. Click Done
At this point, power down the TC and move it to a location that is approximately half the distance from the AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more wireless coverage.....to give the TC a good strong signal to "extend"
Power up the TC and wait for the green light and then you are all set.

  • Can I use iMac as wireless access point?

My network equipment: ADSL modem (which has no integrated wireless) with Buffalo AirStation (802.11b) wireless access point
I have had a reasonably stable broadband situation for a long time (hence the ancient equipment!) and have been able to access the internet via my ADSL modem/ethernet router using ethernet wires from my iMac G5, and two desktop PCs running Linux and Windows. I have also been able to access via the wireless Buffalo Airstation on various laptops over the years. My wife's brand new MacBook has been connecting wirelessly for a couple of weeks.
    Until last night...
Then the AirPort signal dropped to zero and a neighbour's network was suggested as the network I need. I looked at the Buffalo Airstation and there was a flashing red light (and flashing green ones as well). Being an experienced chap I turned it off and turned it back on! For about five minutes the Airport signal was back. Then it disappeared with flashing lights as before. Repeated a few times with no change...
I don't know if the problem is related to the neighbour's wireless signal or not but I decided that it could be the AirStation getting flaky so I tried creating a network on the iMac with a view to sharing its wired connection.
I can log on to this iMac network from the MacBook and I have changed the Systems Preferences to share the connection on the iMac but the MacBook says it is not connected to the internet. Anyone got any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Should I be entering the ADSL modem router in the internet connection details (which is what I have done) or should I be entering something else?
Is what I am trying to do even possible? I haven't found any exact parallels in the documentation or the forums...
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Does the Buffalo AirStation allow you to change the channel being used?
You can share an Internet connection over Ethernet to other computers using Airport. You set it up in System Preferences Sharing pane Internet tab (if using Tiger). On the MacBook, you should just use the default +Configure Using DHCP+ setting. Be sure you clicked to Start the sharing on the iMac. On the MacBook, be sure you select the wireless network that is the iMac's name.
