  • Wrt54g router problem

I have a WRT54G ver 8.2 router that is hard wired to 2 desktop computers and wireless to a laptop computer.
In the past I would turn the dsl modem, router, and the computers off at night. The next morning,I would turn everything on again. The 2 desktop computers would work fine accessing the internet but I had trouble with the laptop. Most of the time, I would get connected but would lose the connection after a short period of time. I could get the laptop connected to the internet by turning the router off and then on again. If I leave the DSL modem and router on all the time, I have no problem with the laptop.
Do you have to leave the dsl modem and router on all the time or can you shut both of them down at night? Is there something wrong with the router?
    Thanks in advance

It is not recommended to shut both of them down at night...Leave them both turned on...

  • WRT54GS ROUTER PROBLEM

I HAVE A WRT54GS WIRELESS ROUTER. TRYED TO SET IT UP. AFTER DOING SO IT WILL NOT CONNECT WIRELESS UN LESS I ALSO CONNECT TO A BROADBAND CONNECTION ON THE CONPUTER. SO IN SHORT TO CONNECT WIRELESSLY I HAVE TO FIRST CONNECT TO A BROADBAND CONNECTION ON MY LAPTOP THEN CLICK THE WIRELESS CONECTION AND CONNECT THAT TOO. , THEN EVERYTHING WORKS FINE. EITHER ONE NOT CONNECTED WILL NOT LET IT WORK. AND YES I AM NOT HARDWIRED AT ANY TIME.
    THANK YOU
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I see. Do you still remember your username and password?
You need the router to do the PPPoE authentication instead of your computer. That way, you don't have to click the broadband icon.
Log in to the router's setup page and follow this procedure. Start at Step7.

  • How to configure wrt54g router as an access point when connected to a 3Com switch

I'm trying to use my linksys router as an access point to keep from having to make more network drops. I can't figure out which IP address/gateway to use on my router to get it to communicate with my switch. The 3Com switch address is 10.1.10.250, gateway is 10.1.10.1, netmask is 255,255,255,0.The linksys router has been reset to defaults.
I know that it can be done but I'm having the hardest time making it work.

For the DD-WRT firmware, you can try this link .
For the price of your Acess Point you can try this link .

  • Online Games Problems With WRT54G Router

    Hi There ppl,
I have a Lan House with 50 comps working, and most of my costumers are looking for online games entertainment (Cabal Online, Ragnarok, Dota, CS, 9 Dragon etc). We have an 8 Gb DSL connection and another one of the same speed for back-up (not running simultaneously at the moment). We should be having outstanding results for online gamming (and we were before installing the new router) but we are having several problems since we install a new LinkSys WRT54G router here. Our physical configuration is the modem, followed by the router, than three DLink Switches(24 ports) and my main computer. Everything cable
What we noticed is that the Internet connection looks normal (even using the command "ping", nothing strange appears, no timed out at all!) but online games (specially the above mentioned) have an intermitent connection. (Some times they connect, some dont)... Looks like it happens usually when I have the house crowded, but already showed also with it empty.
Another issue is that I am using the LinkSys Advisor to help identifying this problem, but I am getting even more confused, because its giving new information each time I refresh the "my network" window. Also happens when showing "My Network Settings" on the Support Tab.
Im using Firmware 8.00.0, what I think is the newest.
I didnt try any forwarding port issue yet, as I would like to receive more information about it (never needed to configure anything related before). Concerning the MTU value I already tryed withou any significantly result.
Please If anyone had the same problem, or have any idea of other possible tests, i would appreciate a lot.
Thank you and have a great day all

    Hi there Helm,
Tks for your attention and reply to my issue!! Yesterday right after posting here (when we closed the doors and I could be able to work on it) I did get the latest one (8.00.2) and also set up manually the MTU value to 1500 (standard is automatic). I also unckeck the "anonymous internet request bock", "Multcast filter" and "Filter NAT forwarding", all of them were checked as standard. I also checked the "HTTPS Internet Access" (standard is only HTTP).
At a first moment I could get a very low sensitive better result (but the Lan was closed, so I had the entire 8Gb for my requests). I came back to work right now, and we have about 30 ppl in, mostly using the Internet, MSN and so... I am trying yo connect to Cabal Online, and GG-Esports (Warcraft, Dota) both of them giving the same problems as always... I am really getting tired and disapointed with LinkSys, I really though I would have much more than I am having right now.
Anyway I gonna keep trying each night to see what I cant get. I do post here If I find any solution (or if I really decided to move to another brand)
Thank you a lot and have a great night out there

  • Problem connecting to same game server, WRT54G router.

Hello I have a WRT54G router, me and my brother cannot play on the same game server on Team Fortress 2. It kicks the person already in the server when the other person joins and gives a connection issue. We think the game server cannot take the same IP twice in the same server.
We checked IPs on ipchicken.com and we're sure the router giving us the same IP is the problem. If it matters we're connected with ethernet cords, not wirelessly. Is there any way to change the IP addresses or fix this?
    Thanks, Matt

The game server will only see the single IP address assigned to the modem or router by your ISP, and won't see the individual computer's locally assigned addresses.
So, unfortunately I see no way around this without subscribing to a separate internet connection with your ISP.

  • CONFIGURE MY WRT54G ROUTER

when i go to 192.168.1.1 to configure my router it takes me well to my neighbor verizon network page "im getting free internet through wireless adapters i disabled the wireless connections only left on local area LAN still having problem what do i do to get to my router page
neigbor has verizon router have info can i just go into that network to configure my router

I think you are connected to your neighbors wireless network, So if you want to access your router's setup page first disable the wireless connection on your computer then connect the Ethernet cable from your linksys router to the computer and then try to open the router setup page  with the ip address 192.168.1.1.

  • Wireless to Wired PC problems with WRT54GS router

I am helping a friend troubleshoot a home network with a high-speed DSL line, WRT54GS router, 3 wired XP PCs and two laptops connecting to the router via 80211.g
The desktop PCs see each other on the network and can share files and printers.
However the laptops via WIFI don't see the wired desktops on the network, nor can the desktop PCs see the laptops on the network. I tried running the XP network wizard on each laptop with no luck. I tried some ping tests with the following results:
When I ping a laptop from a desktop, I get a return ping
When I ping a desktop from a laptop, I can NO return ping.
When I ping the IP address of the router from a desktop, I get a return ping
When I ping the IP address of the router from a laptop, I can NO return ping.
I tried disabling the firewall features internal to the router with no luck.
All machines are running Macafee total security with a firewall. I made sure the firewall was disabled for these tests.
    I would appreciate some advice.
    Thanks

Turn on file & printer sharing on all computers.  Make sure they are all on the same workgroup.  Do not use network wizard.
Log on to the router and setup your wireless settings & wireless security.  Change the network name from Linksys to something else.  Copy these settings on a piece of paper.  Now go to your laptops and find the network you just created.  It will ask you for the key or passphrase.  Input the passphrase you just created.  If it does not work you will have to manually configure your wireless settings that you written on paper.

  • WRT54G ROUTER CONNECTION PROBLEM

    I have a WRT54g router.
Everything works great for a period of time even after turning the computer, internet modem and router on and off several times.
Then I turn everything on and the computer does not connect to the internet.
It go and connect the computer directly to the internet modem and I have internet access.
To be able to use the router again I have to reset the modem and input all the settings which I do with the setup disk.
I have been using channel six in case this makes any difference.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    connection DMS: HSD1.fl.comcast.net
    IP address          :192.168.1.100
    subnet mask      :255.255.255.0
    IP address          :fe80::213:20ff:fec3:6913%4
    default gatway    :197.168.1.1
    ping                      : sent 4 received 4 lost
    reply                      :bytes 32   time 1ms   TTL  64
It does not connect to the internet now but if I reset in the back of the modem and reload the setting via the original CD that came with the unit it starts to connect. Eventually one of the times that I power up it stops connecting to the internet although it still ping's out.
I also tried to load the update of the newer solfware but it does the same with or without the update.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Cannot configure wrt54gs v6 router for use with filezilla FTP client

I am new to working with FTP and very rusty on networking in general.  I just downloaded filezilla to create a FTP client on my desktop.  When I run their wizard, it says the connection is tainted by my router.  All the forums for filezilla say I need to configure my router to allow traffic on either port 21 (ftp) or a range of ports ( they suggest 50000 to 50100).
Please let me know what I need to do to make this work
    thanks in advance
    ldygunner

To answer your other questions, the tutorials have it all wrong. What they really need to explain, but fail to do so, is that the only situation where a FTP client would need to use active mode (the PORT command) is where the FTP server can't accept inbound connections on arbitrary port numbers. But that's a pathological case anyway: the FTP server can always accept connections on some well defined set of port numbers, to keep its own local firewall or NAT router happy. Consequently, there is really no need at all for a FTP client system to open up any ports to support active mode, rather than always operate in passive mode (as browsers do.)
The fact of the matter is that if passive mode works in a browser for you, it will work for Filezilla also.
And the configuration tests it runs are brain damaged. Even though the wizard recommends passive mode, it never tests for it. And it doesn't really test active mode either. What it really tests is whether anything between the client and the server is "transparently" translating IP addresses and port numbers. Such a test is broken, because the mere fact of port numbers being rewritten in TCP packets is irrelevant to whether PORT (active mode) will succeed or fail.
For completeness, in case someone decides to get pedantic, there is a case where a FTP client system would need the active mode PORT command to work, but that case is now of historical interest only. It's a scenario that FTP servers no longer support, for security reasons. (What is it? When the FTP client is operating as a controller to remotely transfer files between two servers: it tells one server to use passive mode, and sends the address/port it gets to the other server in active mode, which in theory would make the second server open a connection to the first. This, in fact, is why two modes, active and passive, were originally defined in the FTP standard!)  And it still wouldn't need open ports on the client system.

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • WRT54GS dhcp problem

Hello, At our office we use a WRT54GS router (firmware v7.50.5) . The configuration is pretty simple : uplink switch -> Linksys router -> wireless & wired network . The local network setup chosen is with dhcp enabled. The problem is that the dhcp acts like a "dhcp-relay",it forwards the dhcp requests .And on the same vlan our wan is,we do have a dhcp server ; our computers get IP from there. In the setup page I have no option regarding "dhcp relay",it just doesn't work. Why it is forwarding the requests and not processing itself ? Thank you,

problem solved, there was a loop in the LAN.

  • WRT54GS Connection Problems

As the title states, I use a WRT54GS v.6 Wireless Router.
Now, the problem is that my router randomly disconnects.  It will be working fine for about 2 weeks and then it would just disconnect all of a sudden.  The computer appears to be trying to reestablish the connection, but the messages keep bouncing back and forth from an error message the the internet has been disconnected, to a message telling me that it has been reestablished.  This continues endlessly.
I also use a Siemens Speedstream 4100 router, on to which I have established it to "Bridged Mode".  My type of Internet connection is PPPoE.
A Firmware upgrade might be the answer to this too.  If so, explain to be the proper procedure in which to download and configure the router to the correct firmware.  Thank you.

Yes, you know the answer, if you experience frequent wireless connection the first thing you shoul do is Upgrade the router's firmware...
Download the Firmware from here , make sure you select the correct version number...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Computer won't detect WRT54G router

I got the WRT54G router. I plugged the router into the power source, then i plugged the the cable from the modem to the router, then the cable from the computer to the router. All four lights were lit. Then the computer would never detect the router. I tried plugging in and out, and the same problem. All the cable were in the right places. I'm guessing it has to do with my computer itself rather than the router. I have Windows XP

okay...first off check the physical connection, make sure that computer is connected directly to the no. 1 or no. 2 ethernet port of the router...click on start >> run >> cmd >> type ipconfig and hit enter, find out the IP address and try pinging to default gateway...if you are getting any replies, let me know the ISP details, so that i can tell you step by step configuration of the router...
