Configuring a Network Printer to Solaris 9

How can we configure a network printer to the server

The easiest way is to use the printmgr command, which is a GUI. Othervise you can add it using lpadmin, the syntax of which i don't recall at heart, but i think there are some useful examples in the manpages or in the forum.

    like hp laserjet printer/printers,

    Very very easy.
    Go to the print manager . (printmgr I believe or in the launch menu under preferences)
    select add a network printer
    Fill out the info. I find that the hpijs printer driver works better then the suggested foomatic on my hp 4000s. I could not print pdfs otherwise.
    Other things to know is the protocol should be BSD (at least it works for me). And add the port to the destination so 192.168.0.1:9600 for example (for hp).
    thats about it. To have it show up correctly in JDS you should probably add it to the printer list under the launch->preferences->printer preferences.

  • How to install a network print on solaris 10

    How to install a network print on solaris 10?
    Thank You!

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
    Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
    that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
    Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
    You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
    The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • How  to configure the network on Sun Solaris 8

    The Sun workstation is a license server, and Window NT workstation need to access the license file that located in the sun workstation.
    Now the Window NT workstation cannot connect with the sun solaris, and I guess that I need to configure the network on Sun Solaris 8.
    Could you please tell me how to do that step by step?
    If there is the system tool like the window system to configure the network easily and quickly.
    I appreciate it.
    Mark

    If your sun system is working then probably it has network configured already .You can check it by the following command on the sun.
    ifconfig -a
    Generally applications asks where license server is located and you need to give the ip-address or host name only . Application docs will give more detail about it.
    You can get ip-address from ifconfig comand above.

  • Configure a Network Printer

    Hi Guyz,
    We did not configure printers on our SAP system, now we got a requirement to configure a network printer. Could you please determine or provide a link for configuring a network printer (Please dont give help.sap.com as this is very confusing.)  This is how i tried,
    tcode -> spad -> configuration -> output devices -> change (F8) -> create
    output device -> Canon_printer
    short name -> Canon
    device type -> canon
    device class -> standard printer
    select tab access method
    Host Spool Access Method -> S
    Host printer :  (what should i give here)
    Destination host: ip address or name of network printer
    Could you please determine whether this procedure is correct or anything we have to do. Our O.S. is UNIX & DB is Oracle.
    Thanks

    Rajendran,
    I guess the procedure is correct but You have specified
    Host Spool Access Method -> S
    I think you should use assess method as " U "  i.e. for Printing using a remote UNIX server or Microsoft Windows PC.
    and
    Host printer : < It is the printer name on the remote host , Note : It is case sensitive >
    Cheers!

  • How to install and configure a new printer

    What are the steps to install and configure a network printer HP Laserjet 4000 to use as standard printer for printing reports. Currently I use default noprint printer.

    After defining Printer at Operating System Level on Concurrent Manager Node , check if you can print via lp ( I assume you are using Unix/Linux)
    Then register it via Register Form at Install -> Printer -> Register .

  • Network printing through ADS

    Hi,
    I need the correct procedure to configure my Network printer which takes authentication through AD. My Macbook  10.7.3 is joined to Windows AD domain. I have the correct drivers  for the Printer also.( sharp MX 2310U )
    Many Thanks.
    Nagendra

    With the Mac already bound to the domain then there should be no need for additional authentication to connect to the Windows shared printer. So if you open Add Printer and select the Windows view, you should see the domain and then the print server and then the shared printer. If you do get a prompt when clicking on the Windows print server, enter your Windows credentials, ensuring the user name is preceeded by the domain name, ex: domain\username.
    Another note is the driver. Some Mac drivers don't work that well to Windows shared printers. So if the Sharp is a Postscript device, try the Generic Postscript printer included with Lion to make sure things work. If the Sharp does not support Postscript but does support PCL, then you can use the Generic Laser Printer included with Lion.

  • Network Printer Setup in Solaris 10

    What is the best way to set up HP JetDirect network printers in Solaris 10? I have just installed Solaris 10 on an Ultra Sparc 10. There are two HP Laserjet Printers (HP LJ 4100DTN and HP LJ 4000TN) with JetDirect cards on my network. I want to be able to print to either of these printers and to choose which paper tray to use for the job (and whether to print double sided on the duplex model). There are reams of conflicting instructions on the Sun website and on the HP website for this task, most referring to older Solaris versions. Do I use the lpadmin command, setting up a different printer_name for each option for each printer? If so, where are the printer definitions? Do I use use the HP JetDirect Printer Installer? If so, where is it or how do I get it and is there a version for Solaris 10? Or is there an "add printer wizard" in the Java desktop that works for HP JetDirect laserjet printers? If so, where is it and where are the instructions for using it? Or is there some other method? Thanks.

    I found the HP JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX on the HP website. The version is E.10.34, dated 5 Aug 2002. The HP site says it is for Solaris 2.6, 7, 8, and 9. Should this installer be used with Solaris 10?
    Alice Soteriou, in a Dec. 2001 article ("Basic Principles of Printing in Solaris 2.6 and Above") on the Sun website says, "Sun's position on this is to always use the vendor-supplied application to create the print queues. This is because it will probably supply the exact interface file to make the most of your printer's features (that is, duplexors, multiple trays, different font sizes and styles, etc.)" However, elsewhere on the Sun site, there are warnings against using such applications for security reasons and comments that the HP JetDirect Print Installer is not supported. What is Sun's current advice on this?
    Alice's 2001 article has been reproduced as postings on supportforum.sun and sunsolve.sun.com with dates in January and February of 2005, but these repostings do not address using this application with Solaris 10.

  • Trying to use HPLJ 1102w as a wired network printer. How do you configure the network settings?

    I have an HPLJ 1102W and I want to use it as a wired printer on my LAN. The trouble is, the easy setup utility is geared toward wireless networking and the ethernet interface will not get a DHCP address from the LAN. In order to get an IP address, I have to go through the wireless networking configuration settings. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to use this printer as a wired network printer?
    thanks,

    Hi,
    The HP LaserJet P1102w provide USB or wireless network interface only.
    the product do not include any ethernet card, as you may also find by its spesification System Requirements below:

  • Remote Printing in Solaris 8 across the network

    Hi
    I am trying to setup a printer on Solaris 8 server. The printer is located on the Client side outside our network and using the Axis Print Server.
    The way it is setup is... print request goes through our server to a virtual IP which forward the request to firewall via port 515, which further forwards the request to client's firewall and then inturn to printer.
    We have been able to setup the printer using the command:
    lpadmin -p "printername" -s "VirtualIP"!"print Queue on the client side"
    This works fine with the /usr/ucb/lpr command as the printer on the client side accepts only lpr command.
    However, the problem is, when we print manually, it prints fine. However when we run a script which as an output fires multiple prints to the printer, the Printer prints coule of files which are smaller in size but does not print the bigger file and nothing after that. it just keep on sitting on the queue.
    We have tried increasing the timeout to 120 secs but that didnt help either.
    Please suggest if you have any idea about this or if you have done the similar kind of setup in the past.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Cheers.

    Hello jnapier99
    The Officejet 6500 E709n does have a Windows 8 driver, however, it does not have a Windows 8 RT driver which is what the MS Surface tablet uses. This would explain the message you are receiving.
