Configuring an Additional Instance of Essbase Server to one shared service

Hi ,
I currently have two separate installation of shared services with its own Essbase server(version EPM 11.1.1.1). I want to shut down one shared service and keep both the Essbase servers up pointing to only one shared services.
Can we have two independent installation of Essbase servers point to one shared service . If yes , can you direct ,me to the correct document or steps.

Go to the computer where essbase server is installed and run the configurator and then where it asks for set up shared services and registry database connection, we give the schema we gave for the new shared services.
Is that it? Do I have to change the instance home or something?

Configuration of 2 Essbase Servers on one Shared Services Server

Components Installed:
Essbase Server and Shared Services on 1st Server
Workspace, HFR and Web Analysis Installed on 2nd server. I have configured them and everything is working fine. No issues with this environment.
Requirement:
There is a Essbase server installed on Server 3. Its a Standalone. We want to make use of the Application created here and its security(groups etc) for creating reports through Workspace.
Question: Can I configure this Essabase server to the Shared Services which sits on Server1 (which already configured with Essbase already). If it is, are there any risks that we need to consider here.
Please advise me on this.

Is it ok if I run the Register with Shared services through Essbase Console on Server3 and point to the Shared Services server. I think by doing this, one more Essbase Node created in the Shared Services and the security on Essbase Server 3 can be utilized for generating Reports from Workspace.

Unable to view Essbase server in Hyperion Shared services Console

Hi All,
I installed Hyperion Essbase 11.1.2.1 on windows xp 32 bit.
I am unable to see the Essbase Server Icon under 'Applications Gruops' in shared services console.
But "Essbase Server Srudio 11.1.2.1" is available instead of Essbase Server.
Help how to get "Essbase server" to give provisions to particular applications to particular users.

Hi Guys,
The isssue resolved.
Reason : At the time of Installation i enabled the "Standalone mode Server"
thats why Essbase cluster was not Registered in Shared services.

How to change auto logoff time for Essbase AddIn when Essbase server is in Shared Services mode

could anybody describe me the way to change the auto logoff time for the Essbase Excel AddIn? I only know the possibility to change the properties in the EAS console, but our Essbase Server is running in Shared Services mode so the relevant settings doesn't apply...

You should still be able to set the "Inactive limit" in EAS or use Maxl e.g. alter system set session_idle_limit x minutes;

Not able to access the links to Essbase Console, Planning and Shared Servic

I am trying to access the links to Essbase Console, Planning and Shared Services but I get the following error message.

I tried to restart all the services on all the servers and also restarted the servers but it didn't work.

Urgent: Different Hyperion Components configuration in one Shared Service

Hi,
Here is my requirement:
We are updating all our existing Version 6X. 7X applications to EPM Version 11. I want to configure all the applications installed in different servers to one shared service. All users belongs one Active directory only.
Plan is like this
Server1: Essbase component. I have nearly 5 application created in this server.
Server2: Again Essbase. Again 5 application is this server.
Server3: Hyperion Planning,
Server4: Hyperion Financial Reporting
Server5: Hyperion Workspace
So, all these different Essbase and planning applications are installed in differnet servers. Can I have 1 shared Service for all these applications. If yes, can anyone suggest the approach and the configuration details.

You can configure all the Hyperion components on different servers to a single shared services server.
When configuring the components, you point to the shared services server you want to use. Select Connect to a previously configured Shared services

Essbase External Security via Shared Services

I have hit a problem with essbase external security via shared services, might be fairly trivial, first time doing this.
In the install guide for essbase 9.3.1 it mentions not to use the user 'admin' when firing up essbase server console mode for the first time if you intend to externalise security to shared services in the future.
I have followed this recommendation and used a different username 'essadmin' for the first time essbase server is started up. While still in native security mode, I sign in via EAS 9.3.1 and create myself another admin account just in case.
I cold backup shared services SQL repository and OpenLDAP repositry before externalising essbase security. Also I backup the essbase sec and cfg files just in case.
Then I start it all up, go into EAS and select to externalise security, this takes a few seconds, and all seems well.
Now in shared services I can see the essadmin user ID and everything appears to be OK. However when I look under the projects node, I see "Analytic Servers:myhost:1", then below that another green icon "Analytic Servers:myhost:1", but when I click on the second green icon I get "Login fails due to invalid login credentials".
What have I done wrong ?

I don't think you've done anything wrong. You just need to provision your shared services user with access to Essbase. Right-click on your user, select provision and then give them the required Essbase rights.

Creating data server for Hyperion Shared Services (HSS)

Hey Gang,
Has anyone had experience in creating a Data Server for Hyperion Shared Services (HSS) using the java API? I know HSS uses Native Directory, but to be compliant the Hyperion folks recommend using the java API strictly to get access to the users, groups, etc.
Anyone have experience with this, or perhaps at least how to get ODI to kick off a java file to pull the data needed? What effort would be needed in ODI, is it straight forward or would I have to develop a technology or something to integrate into ODI?

Thanks for the quick reply John. I am trying to get user and group information, and also doing some complex manipulation. I need this to verify user access and some other stuff. I will not always have access to HSS and cannot always export the information, thus the need to use the HSS java API.
I'm trying to pull it out of HSS and put it into an Oracle table in a standard format where I'll use the information and do reporting off of it. I've developed a java class that does migrates the data over, but its crude and I'd like to move it into ODI with some of our projects that are currently doing the same thing with other ERP such as Ebiz and Peoplesoft.
If I can recode some of the java in ODI, how would I go about doing that. Where would I include the libraries, etc.? is there a tutorial or a place where I can get started on that.

Changing essbase connection to another shared services instance on another server

Hi Everybody,
I'm working on 11.1.2.2 EPM platform and i need to change the essbase connection to Shared Services. I want to make it connecting to another instance on another server. So i think to launch the Configurator on the new server to connect the essbase to the new instance. However, what about the existing configuration? Do I need to unconfigure it? Is there a procedure that i could follow?

Can i have 2 essbase server for one EAS??????

Currently I'm working on version 11.1.2.I need some help.
Actually my question is can i have 2 essbase server(Dev and Prod) under one administrative server i.e., Localhost1(Dev) and prod as its own box i.e.,Localhost2.Here my username and password for Dev and prod are different.So while adding the prod Server .I'll uncheck the single sign on option and enter my username and password for the prod server.When i add the prod server i could not see any application under the server.My question is Do we need to have any connection between the DEv and Prod server in order to have 2 essbase servers under one EAS????

It means that EAS can't see Essbase running on the server you specified. This is either because Essbase really isn't running, the Essbase agent isn't listening on the default port (1423), the server name you have provided is wrong, or the server name can't be resolved from the EAS server's perspective.
First I'd confirming you can access the PROD Essbase server just to confirm that it's up (though since it's Prod, I guess you'd know if it wasn't running...) using e.g. MaxL, SmartView or the Excel Add-In.
Then try using the server's IP address instead of the server's name when you enter the details into EAS.
I am not great with networking so I can't give a full description, but I have also worked on sites where the PROD environment was intentionally completely cut off from the DEV / TEST environments - i.e. no TEST server can see a PROD server. Is it possible your site works that way?

Essbase not registering with Shared Services in 11.1.2.1

During configuration Essbase is is failing on Register with Shared Services. The configuration was pretty straight forward and all defaults. I ran the diagnostic tool and it came back with connection refused. Essbase is the first (other than Shared Services connection) that I have attempted to configure on this box
We are running an all Windows environment with four separate servers. Shared Services is running on a separate box, connection to the SQL server is working, passwords are correct, username is correct, database is correct, there are no firewalls in place and I can get to Shared Services and workspace, services are running...
Any ideas?

I do not have external user directories defined in Shared Services yet.... I cant even get into Shared Services because a "Failed to authenticate user. Invalid credentials." message. I checked my credentials and they cant be wrong cause I copied and pasted them.

Business Rules Instance disappeard in projects folder in Shared Services

Hi all,
I have this strange thing happend to me today morning. when i logged into the Shared Services i can find the Business Rules folder but i couldnt find the instance for it.Is there any way i can reconfigure it so that i can see the instance back again in Shared Services.

Essbase App disappering in Shared Services v 11.1.2.2

We are having an issue where Apps mysteriously disappear from Shared services - it has happened 3 times now. One day they are there and the next day they are not. I have tried to register them in EAS but I receive an error message:
Error: 1051432: Failed to add application [dir_srvA] to project at Shared Services with Error [Application not found.]
We are on the brink of a full roll-out and this is very concerning to me.
Any insight out there?
We run v 11.1.2.2 on an aix 5..3 platform.

Security is not synchronized between Shared Services, Essbase and Essbase Administration Services (EAS).
This application does not display in EAS or Shared Services.
Solution
To remove the application from the Shared Services Registry:
1. Backup the Relational Database used by Shared Services.
2. Navigate to \Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem\bin.
3. Delete application from registry using command from cmd window:
epmsys_registry deletecomponent #{appname}_EssbaseCluster-1_1.ESBAPP
4. Create the application in EAS.

Problem assigning Essbase Security filters in Shared Services

We recently upgraded Planning/Essbase to System 9 version 931 in Test. Everything went smoothly except for few users Security didn't migrate properly.
In Shared Services, it shows that user has access to Planning & Native Essbase Applications. But in Essbase, only Planning Application access is shown.
Also when I try to apply security filters for these users in Native Essbase Applications (in Shared Services), I don't see these particular users.
There is no problem with Planning security, except when I refresh Security from Shared Services in Analytic Admin Console it wipes out Planning Application access in Essbase.
For other users there are no issues. Only for few users this is the problem. I have tried to deprovision user & provision back, but no use.

Essbase/Planning security is multi tiered. In Shared Services you setup your groups. You provision your groups with adequate security access. Depending on whether you have updated a cetain .css file(to fix bug) you may have to assign the read, write calc access to the group not just calc, but all three if your users need the access to actually, read, write & calc. of need user to just read & write etc... then you have to go to EAS refresh, run maxl script to assign environment access to user, go back to shared services go into projects assign any needed access to calc & filter groups and essbase is setup. For planning you also have to go to workspace and migrate identities within the security setup for any of your dimensions. this comes into play when adding or removing users as filters are created in planning workspace. I just learned this from one good tech that helped me setup & remove users as I had issues getting them in and out of the system..Now to move on to actually getting security reports that make sense for planning with the associated access. If anyone has the maxl code let me know.
